It’s the Bulls Podcast #63, and today we’re covering the Bulls hot and cold streaks, Bulls/Celtics Analysis, Crazy Trades, our current State of the Bulls and Predictions for the coming week.
Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls.
A couple of quick News items
So first I want to talk about some news related to me and the show and some expansion. Starting Tomorrow, November 23rd and after every Bulls game this season, I will be hosting a post-game LIVE call in stream over at The Windy City Breeze. Joining me will be P.Kidd, a regular Breeze crew member, and Wyse, I hope that you can join me when your schedule allows it.
I had originally wanted to do this on the Bulls Podcast stream, but there are a few reasons why doing it with The Windy City Breeze actually helps our channel more.
Pat the Designer is a friend, and he just started back to his day gig. Leaving him hosting his own show, the Bulls live game call, and Locked on Bulls. So that’s why he asked me to step in and help
The infrastructure and 15K subs are already there on TWCB, so it’s the largest platform we have for the Bulls Podcast, even bigger than our social subs.
Pat’s live call generates hundreds of live viewers as a lead in to the post game. It’s always most active right at the end of games, so that’s a huge plus.
We can promote the Bulls Podcast and upcoming episodes. It will be great for channel growth.
The Bulls content creator community is strong. For the most part, we help each other whenever needed. It’s a tight knit group.

It’s the Bulls Podcast #62, and today we’re covering Dalen Terry to The G-League, Bulls Drop the new City Edition jerseys, P.Will vs P.Wont continues, our current State of the Bulls and Predictions for the coming week.
Welcome to the Bulls Podcast, coming to you from BullsPodcast.com. This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. My name is Marcus Couch, and with me once again is my friend on the other end, Mr. Wyse Black.
A couple of quick News items
First up, Bulls have announced that Dalen Terry is heading to the G-League to get some playing time. I think this is a great thing for the young Bull, as he will get to flex his stuff for a full game, getting him ready for later in the year as we approach the rough winter months of the season.
So far, Dalen has not had any meaningful game time with the Bulls. This season he’s only played 16 minutes in total and put up 4 points and 2 turnovers in that time.
Billy Donovan announced progress on Lonzo Ball and that he is running underwater. Personally, I can tell you that this isn’t a big step. I had my entire lower leg broken and had a rod put in. I was walking and running in the pool at the gym within 10 days, even though I wouldn’t walk at all without crutches. It’s a good sign, but certainly not a milestone in his recovery.
Patrick Williams. Is he P.Will or P.Won’t? Maybe P.Might?
I hate to keep getting on Patrick Williams case, but I am having a hard time understanding what the problem is. Though he is improving in certain areas of play, I feel like he really isn’t living up to “The Paw” nickname at all. We treat (and pay) him like he’s something special. I would beg to differ that he’s not much better than Javonte Green or Derrick Jones Jr. That’s a $5 Mil a year vet that we can sign 2 for 1 P.Will #4 Pick contract.
I’m all for a P.Will trade at any point. He’s not worth the wait. We should have traded for Gobert and gave him up.
State of The Bulls: The Blame falls on Billy
I wish I could blame it all on P.Will, but the truth is, the coaching decisions in the 4th quarter have been very questionable. In OKC, Billy was infamous for not calling time outs when other teams were making deep scoring runs. The inbound plays have been sloppy and seemingly unplanned in terms of play calling.
In the 4th quarter, it seems like we are just clearing out for Demar to do iso ball and everyone else perches around the 3 point line waiting for Demar to get triple teamed and force the ball out, or just watch and wait for Demar to take a shot.
In close games, the Bulls have no clear heart to get ahead and finish opponents out in the closing 5 minutes in games. The Bulls have a dismal 0-5 record in the games that were decided by five points or less this season. That’s almost 40% of our games so far this season.
That was quite obvious Wednesday night in a tight back-and-forth game against the Pelicans. With just over 5 minutes left to play and holding a four-point lead, the Bulls were on their way to coast to a win. But Billy’s choice to bench Patrick Williams was a big mistake.
P.Will was having a great defensive game, getting a block and 4 steals in 26 minutes. He did well on Brandon Ingram, holding him to 2 for 6 shooting. Once the game was in the waning moments, Billy put Caruso on B.I., giving up 6 for 8 shooting for 13 pivotal points doen the stretch.
Double teams on Derozan are starting to work, whereas last year we thought Demar was a magician. We need more movement on and off the ball and we’re just not seeing it.
Bulls fans can’t blame the 6-7 start only on Billy. That being said, out of the 5 close games, we should have won 4 of them. Our record should be 10-3, putting us #2 in the East behind the Bucks, with the same record as the NBA spotlight, Utah Jazz that everyone is talking about. That’s what kind of difference those close NBA games would be for us right now. If this keeps up, I really doubt we will make the playoffs. Lonzo Ball could return tonight and it wouldn’t matter with this 4th quarter coaching style.

It’s the Bulls Podcast #61 P.Will vs P.Wont? How about P.Might? Bulls/Nets Recap, Hornets Preview and an all new segment!
Wyse Black.
We’ve got several topics for you this episode. Including:
Patrick Williams. Is he P.Will or P.Won’t? Maybe P.Might?
Patrick Williams had his best game of the season, and it could not have come at a better time, vs the NJ Nets. To which head coach Billy Donovan basically said: AGAIN..
“With a guy being in his third year, it has to come from within. There was no dialogue by me about, ‘Hey, be aggressive.’ There was none of that. He was physical on defense. He got to the glass. He had some drives. He had some tough pull-ups. You felt him on both ends of the floor,” Donovan said. “Regardless of whether he scored or not, he deflected a couple passes. He got into some passing lanes.
“He has to make a decision that this is the kind of player that I want to be, that I know I can be. It’s not like we’re putting him in a box and saying, ‘Hey, your job is to play defense and pass the ball to people.’ He has to take advantage of his opportunities. And I thought (Tuesday) it came from within.”
Indeed, Williams played with noticeable aggressiveness and decisiveness. He drove the ball with force. He defended Kevin Durant with physicality, even if Durant, one of the world’s best scorers, still got his points.
In all, Tuesday marked yet another step in Williams’ progression from a slow start to the season. Beyond the points, he played with purpose.
Wyse Reaction: Is this real or false reality? Everyone said we overdrafted P.Will. They may still be right.
Wyse Guys
OK we have a new segment that I am working a few things out on, but we have our beta version ready and it’s called Wyse Guys, where Wyse picks his top hustle guys of the week.

Wyse is now +2 in the prediction column now. Marcus, or the Bulls need to step it up!
Fri Oct 28 – Bulls @ Spurs
Demar will hit is 20K points in his old stomping grounds of San Antonio, which is actually a nice story. Will he completely GO OFF? I hope he gets the record and then rests the remainder of the game with a huge lead. We need him the next game against the 76ers.
AND this was just announced pre-show.. Bulls list Zach LaVine questionable (left knee injury management) for Friday’s game in San Antonio, the front end of a back-to-back.

It’s the Bulls Podcast #59. We’ve got Bulls Week 1 Predictions, Zach Lavine shut down for the opener, Coby White denied an extension, P.Will or P.Wont, and our Bulls Season Expectations.
We thought we would get a quick show in before the game starts to go over some things and test out all our video connections. We’re using Streamyard for the first and probably last time, we will see how it goes.
We’ve got several topics for you this episode. Including:
Zach Lavine is taking the day off for the Season Opener for “Load Management”
Zach LaVine told reporters in Miami that he isn’t feeling specific soreness/pain in his knee. Management like today could be expected throughout the rest of the season. Still uncertain if he will play in DC but it hadn’t been ruled out yet.
Zach LaVine may also miss Friday’s game vs. Wizards, with likelihood the two-time All-Star makes his season debut in Saturday’s home opener vs. Cleveland.
Julia Poe, who covers the Bulls for the Chicago Tribune noted that while this may seem like semantics, it feels like a serious distinction between injury management (which is what Zach is requiring right now) and load management. He’s not sitting to avoid getting tired, there is a specific issue — he was just vague today about what that is.
While Zach just played 10 days ago and logged 24 minutes, there seems to be no way that this is just “load management”. Seems like there is something else happening. Are we hitting the panic button way too early?
Coby White Not Given Contract Extension and will become Restricted Free Agent
Contract extension time has come and gone for Coby White, who will become a Restricted Free Agent after the season. Coby has become the odd man out with last season’s sudden surge of Ayo. To me this move spells a trade for the Bulls sometime this season, but AK/ME have proved me wrong several times before.
COBY WHITE VIDEO CLIP
My question is, does Coby make sense to keep on the team for the remainder of the year, or should we already be living in the NBA Trade Machine to find a potential new piece that we can get in return for Coby?
Patrick Williams. Is he P.Will or P.Won’t?
This season is an important one for starter Patrick Williams. After 2 seasons of on-again off-again play from the #4 pick, it’s going to be interesting to see if P.Will can live up to our expectations.
BILLY VIDEO CLIP
This is someone that we traded away Wendell Carter Jr and 3 picks to get Vooch. Because we thought that P.Will would be able to fill the workload for years to come. But is he that guy? Will he prove something to the fans, even in week 1 off the season?
For the record, I am coining the phrase P.Won’t, just in case it’s not already out there. I hope I never have to say it again, but I’m keeping it in my pocket for now, giving him the benefit of the doubt. But to me the whole season hinges on P.Will. It’s a pivotal position in the NBA. We could have easily gotten a free agent with more proven talent and experience without all the drama.
Bulls Season Expectations
Zach could have a huge season after surgery on the left knee that troubled him last season. LaVine is healthy, driven and focused on winning by displaying incredible 2 day talent.
Q: Will Zach be the leading scorer for the Bulls this year?
Q: Will he make the All Star team for the 3rd Straight Year?
Ayo Dosunmu will start more games at point guard than Lonzo Ball
If you’re a Bulls fan, you hope this prediction is wrong. And that’s not a knock on Dosunmu, who stands poised to have a breakout season.
But no player on the roster duplicates the skill set of Ball, a two-way talent who impacts winning far beyond the box score. Ball hasn’t played competitively since January. Though his focus is on attempting to play this season, it’s a safe bet that his return will be played conservatively. Even if he does return, he could do so initially off the bench.
Alex Caruso will set his career high for games played and every other stat
Caruso’s career-high total is 64 of 71 games in the pandemic-shortened season of 2019-20. During his first season with the Bulls, he logged 41 games as he battled a variety of ailments, including a Grayson Allen cheap shot that fractured his wrist.
Caruso would need to play in 74 games to match the career-high percentage he played in 2019-20 with the Lakers. After an offseason spent on strengthening his lower extremities, here’s saying that luck lands on Caruso’s side.
DeMar DeRozan’s scoring average will be lower, while Nikola Vučević’s will increase
This is definitely not a bold prediction since DeRozan posted a career-high average of 27.9 points during his first season with the Bulls and 13th overall. To ask a player to produce another career-high in Year 14 is a tall task.
More important, if DeRozan did that, it wouldn’t be the optimal version of the Bulls. He would be playing too much hero ball. With an emphasis on ball and player movement to avoid isolation and offensive stagnation, head coach Billy Donovan wants more balanced scoring.
Enter Vučević, who sacrificed more than any player last season and delivered a lights-out preseason. The Bulls want more paint touches. They want Vučević operating as much in the post as on the perimeter. Vučević won’t rival his career-high of 23.4 points set with the 2020-21 Orlando Magic. But look for him to top the 17.6 points he averaged last season.
Goran Dragić and Andre Drummond will be the most valuable signings this year
Both veterans will solidify a second unit that will showcase the Bulls’ depth and allow Donovan to use DeRozan more judiciously. Dragić remains an extremely crafty pick-and-roll player, while Drummond looks intent to prove he’s more than just a rebounder. Perhaps their best attribute is that either player can serve as a spot starter without the Bulls missing a beat.
P-Will or P-Wont?
Will P.Will finally take the step that we need him to? We talked about it. I hope he does. I’m afraid he P.Wont though. The PAW will become the NAW.
The Bulls will finish 47-35 and sixth in the Eastern Conference
The anointments of the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers have happened on paper, not the hardwood. That’s not to say that both teams shouldn’t be improved. And the Eastern Conference is better, with few easy nights.
But the Bulls have continuity and depth, and players like Dosunmu and Patrick Williams could bode well for internal improvement. The Bulls won 46 games last season and, yes, starting the season without Ball is a blow. But I think we can at least repeat last year, plagued by injury, covid and everything else that could go wrong.
Let’s predict our next few games for the coming week

We’ve got several topics for you this episode. Including:
THE RETURN
So there are a lot of loyal listeners out there still with us after the sudden 2 year break that we took from the show. While I don’t want to take a lot of time with it, I do want to thank everyone for sticking with us and those that are absolutely brand new to what Wyse and I started way back in August of 2018.
As we are kind of in our own pre-season and training camp with the return, this is probably going to be the very last audio only version of the show. We will be doing things in video from next week on, and I hope you can join us there live as we do the show.
It’s not like your typical 2 camera Youtube/Streamyard reaction show. I’ve put a whole summer into getting the graphic elements ready and we are very excited to be bringing out our very best for the fellow Bulls Fans and Bull Lifers out there.
Bulls vs Pelicans Post-Game
After a seemingly endless summer without Bulls basketball, the Bulls are finally back into our lives once again. The first Preseason game vs the New Orleans Pelicans featured the return of slim fast spokesman Zion Williamson, much to the hype of just about every NBA announcer and presenter. After 20 minutes of Zion jock-sniffing, the national TV stooges remembered “Oh, that Bulls logo is the team that Zion is playing tonight” What a joke!
The Bulls went through Vooch early on, and he responded with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks in just 23 minutes of play. I feel like All-Star Vooch is coming back.
Rookie Dalen Terry showed that he had some heart and hustle, making an impressive debut with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. But preseason or not, the rookie displayed solid ball handling, including initiating offense with the third unit, and solid passing on top of his defensive energy. The UC crowd definitely took notice as Terry spearheaded the second-half run that helped the Bulls erase a 19-point deficit to make the mostly meaningless game competitive.
Dragic and Drummond were fun to watch in a Bulls uniform. Dragic showed some veteran moves that is a great preview of things to come.
In the end, the Bulls fell 129-125, but the score and the outcome were irrelevant. We just want to see the guys get some competitive tick and work out the lineup.
The Injury Bug hits Bulls early
Coby White has precautionary MRI for left knee injury
Bulls fourth-year guard Coby White underwent a precautionary MRI after leaving Tuesday’s preseason opener with a left knee contusion, Billy Donovan told reporters after the team’s Wednesday afternoon practice
“They (the Bulls’ medical staff) just told me that they wanted to take him, just to kind of standard procedure when a guy has something like that, to take him there and just make sure everything’s OK,” Donovan said.
“He (White) felt like he could have gone back and played last night. But they worry about those situations where muscles aren’t firing correctly and plants the wrong way and something else happens. I think we just took him in there today just to check him out.”
White played 2 minutes, 50 seconds in the first quarter of Tuesday’s 129-125 loss to the Pelicans before receiving what at first appeared a quick hook.
The team announced the injury at halftime and listed White as questionable to return. He came out onto the court during the break with a sleeve on his left leg and went through some warm-ups. But as Donovan said postgame, the risk was too great given the low stakes of the game.
“Coby wanted to go back in,” Donovan said. “With a preseason game it didn’t make any sense to even have him go back in there.”
White is slated to be one of four players — along with Goran Dragić, Alex Caruso and Ayo Dosunmu — to slide in and out of the Bulls’ point guard rotation during the preseason as the team seeks a formula to replace the indefinitely sidelined Lonzo Ball.
It’s unclear if this injury will cause White to miss any time. He underwent the MRI, Donovan said, at 12:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, so the team did not have any results to report. Hopefully he will be fine.
LONZO BALL SURGERY
After a full 8 months of rehab since his knee injury, Lonzo Ball once again went under the knife to repair his ongoing knee issues. This leaves a potential player and rotational gap at the point guard position. Thankfully AK and Marc brought in Goran Dragic to help offset the load, and the fact that Ayo is more than capable of growing into the role of starter until Lonzo gets back into playing condition.
My question is, why didn’t the Bulls pull the trigger much sooner in the summer to make sure that Lonzo was ready for the season opener? Is this the first crack in the wisdom of AK/ME? To me this feels like the Derrick Rose situation all over again. Poorly handled, barely communicated and it leaves our whole “rebuild” in complete jeopardy.
Bulls Extend Patrick Williams Contract to 4th Year
The Chicago Bulls say that they have picked up their 2023/2024 team option on forward Patrick Williams, which means the 4th year of his deal is now guaranteed at $9,835,881.
In the Preseason opener, Williams played 17 minutes, tallied 5 points (2-for-7 shooting) and 5 rebounds, and was at times over-matched at the defensive end by Zion Williamson, who scored 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting.
Williams has got to be the most favored and coddled Chicago Bulls player I’ve ever seen in my 40+ years of being a Bulls fan. Even in the pre-season opener, Williams looked much the same. Timid, afraid and unable to live up to the potential that Bulls fans have relied on to take us to the next level.
This is a #4 pick who seems to be the invisible man most of the time he’s on the floor. He’s now in year 3, and we’re still talking about “potential”. We covet P.Will like he’s Kawhi Leonard. I just keep wondering when that version of him is going to appear.
State of the Bulls – New Season Edition
As we embark on a brand new Bulls season in 2022, Bulls Fans have high expectations for the upcoming season. The Bulls injury bug hit hard last season, resulting in a quick first-round playoff defeat. But realistically speaking, without DeMar DeRozan winning 6 games for the Bulls in the last seconds of the games, the Bulls probably would not have even made the play-in. COVID hit almost everyone on the team. Zach and Lonzo had knee issues and surgery, and while we recovered over the summer, other teams in the Eastern conference executed blockbuster trades and upgrades up and down their roster. The Bulls got Drummond and Dragic and drafted Dalen Terry.
My question is this: Do we have enough to compete? Do we even have enough to make the playoffs again?
