The Barn Vineyard Church Teachings: Recent Episodes

The Barn Vineyard

We are a community committed to following Jesus who deeply experience the love and presence of God by his Spirit. We believe our faith in Jesus is best experienced with others, should promote life-change to be more like Him, and should empower us to use our gifts to love and serve the people around us both locally and abroad.

Immediately after the Day of Pentecost, the early church met both in the temple and “from house to house,” where they ate, learned, fellowshipped, and ministered to one another and to the unsaved together. The Barn is re-vamping our small group ministry that has been so important to us for many decades. Dave and Kim share their passion for home groups and how God uses them in His kingdom.  Teaching Notes: https://thebarnvineyard-teaching-material.s3.amazonaws.com/Small+Group+Teachin.pdf

We celebrate Good Friday because on the Cross Jesus bore our sins in His own body. He suffered the punishment and death due to all human beings. His passion satisfied our immeasurable debt to the Father that we could never have paid. Jesus paid it all and set us forever free. So what was the resurrection? Pastor Bruce Latshaw will give us insight into what the resurrection of Jesus was in the eyes of God and the watching universe, and what that pivotal point in divine history did for us, His kingdom people, forever.

It’s astounding how often the Bible reminds God’s people to “remember the poor” both as individuals and as churches. What turns revivals into awakenings includes just such a focus on giving God’s love away societally—reforming our society’s institutions or birthing new ones to care for people.  Teaching Notes: https://thebarnvineyard-teaching-material.s3.amazonaws.com/Remember+The+Poor+1.pdf

We all face trials and adversities in our lives. At times we may wonder, “Where are you, God? What are you doing?” But our trials are often exactly the place where we encounter the living God, who shows Himself strong on our behalf. In this teaching we will look at the “fiery” trial of three young Jewish men in the book of Daniel. We will find that God was in the business then and is in the business now of releasing His power in the midst of human challenges, making a way where there is no way.

This teaching explores God’s loving heart towards us concerning finances. He understands our needs and concerns and promises to supply resources to us so that we will have enough for every good work. He also understands the dangers of money and has a plan to help us step into the right relationship with money. That plan is Giving. He is after our heart, not our money!

In this teaching Bruce continues the series on "The Walk" in God's kingdom. The "key" to blessing he examines this week is Jesus' "golden" rule to "treat others as you want to be treated." He discusses the origin of this "rule" from Scripture, its expression in other religions, and how what Jesus said is the highest and most transforming expression of this powerful life truth!

In part 1 of this teaching, Bruce introduces the importance of instant obedience to the leading of the Spirit as the key to releasing God’s power.

We were created to walk with God through the “gardens” of our lives. Learning to walk in the Spirit is a lot like learning to walk in the natural- many steps and many falls. God is for us as we get up again to overcome things that have hindered us in walking with him through our everyday lives.

In this teaching Bruce builds on the foundation being laid for the exciting new "re-formation" of The Barn Vineyard into a "complete wineskin" to contain and express the coming "new wine!" Bruce examines two of the four functions of the New Testament apostle: as a "send one," and as a planter/starter (master-builder) of kingdom ministries. In this teaching you will discover if you have the "wiring" of an apostle, and, if so, what to do to begin to develop and release the anointing of that ministry! (The two other functions of the apostle are available on The Barn's website under Teaching Notes, to be posted 9/27/17.)

View Details

In this teaching Bruce uses the examples of Jesus and Philip as mature New Testament evangelists--the "kerux"--the announcer of good news in Ephesians 4:11. He describes the differences between being a "witness" and being an "evangelist," one the five gifts of leader/equippers Jesus has given to the church. He also lists the characteristics of the NT evangelist's ministry, which consists of both the "announcement" (declaration/preaching) of the the divine King and his kingdom, and the "demonstration" of Jesus' power through signs and wonders. He ends by calling the emerging evangelists at The Barn forward for authorization and activation.

View Details

In this teaching Kellie reveals how important it is to prefer & honor another's giftings. She will show how not using your gifts can hinder the church from reaching its full potential.

View Details

In this teaching Bruce unpacks the "giving" and "receiving" parts of Jesus' words, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive." He discusses what he calls the "law of flow"--that everything created, if alive, gives out and receives back as a primary dynamic of life. He counsels us to align ourselves with God's law by understanding and partaking in the giving and receiving of God's life in three areas: use of God's gifts in ministry, use of Scripture in prayer, and use of our resources. He notes that without participating in this "flow" through both giving and receiving, no Christian will be satisfied with any church, no matter how excellent the church, because receiving God's life flows from giving it away. He also touches on a challenge many of us have: wanting to be givers but not receivers, and how that problem can block the flow of God's life and resources into and through us.

In this teaching Bruce reviews the "wineskin" of the church as it appeared in its first three centuries based on scriptures and the writings of church fathers. Then he details the changes instituted by Constantine at the Council of Nicea in 325 and their legacy in the Western church today. Bruce advocates a return by The Barn to the wineskin principles that governed the early "apostolic" church.

In this teaching Bruce explores 1 Timothy 1:18, where Paul encourages his spiritual son Timothy to make use of the prophecies spoken over him as part of "fighting the good fight." Timothy's appointment as the apostolic leader of the church at Ephesus was the ministry assignment that was being carried out. Bruce notes the high value of prophecy in the early church and today's church, and shows how prophecies received function as a weapon against the attacks of the enemy against our identity and the validity of our ministry assignments

In this teaching, Bruce talks about the perspective taught by the Bible when Christians encounter life situations in which God does not act to reverse the power of evil. Examining texts on the kingdom of God, we see that while the kingdom (the manifest reign and rule of God) has come and is "here" in the presence of the power of the Spirit of Christ, the fullness of God's kingdom is not yet here. Therefore, while Jesus has won the war, sometimes spiritual battles are lost to the enemy, as specific events in the New Testament show. This is "biblical reality" that helps explain why some are healed by God and some are not, even as Paul tells us that our "seeing" in prophecy is partial now, but will be complete when the "perfect" (the coming of Jesus and His kingdom) comes. Yet, Romans 8:28 remains true for the believer, as God miraculously works even enemy victories for "good" by His creative, redemptive grace.

In this teaching, Bruce starts a series of the dynamics of the early church--what made it healthy and dynamic, able to turn the world upside down in a generation. He will compare this God-birthed church with the church today and the re-formed Barn Vineyard in 2017 and beyond. Today Bruce teaches on the overlooked power of Christians greeting one another and Jesus' words to greet even those we don't know. He shows how there is an external side to greeting and an internal, spiritual side to greeting--and how the spiritual atmosphere of a church gathering can be strongly affected by whether or not greeting truly happens among those present. Bruce Latshaw describes how radical Jesus' ministry methods were in contrast to the Jewish exorcists and healers of his day. Jesus' ability to "cast out spirits with a word" and to bring healing to the diseased in the same way prompted onlookers to be amazed at the "authority" and "power" He demonstrated. Bruce then links Jesus' use of divine authority to deliver and heal to the church's authority to do the same, in the same way. Bruce stresses that we would be wise to use biblical ways of ministry to produce biblical results of ministry.

In this teaching Bruce explore the third part of The Barn Vineyard vision, "transforming lives." Beginning with the biblical meaning of "transform," this vital discipleship concept is presented from the standpoint of the dramatic origin point of Paul's transformation: his Damascus road encounter with the risen Jesus. Bruce locates the start, progress in, and end point of our spiritual transformation where the Scripture says it is in 2 Co. 3:18, through "beholding" the glory of God in the face of Jesus, just as Paul discovered on that Damascus Road. Next week Bruce shows how the transformation that begins with individuals flows outward, eventually to flood the planet with a transformed humanity!

In this "wild card" teaching, Bruce focuses on 2 Co. 5:17-"Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. Old things have passed away, brand new things have come!" as the lynchpin of the transformation from our old "natural" self, shaped by this world, into our new "spiritual" self, created in the image of Jesus. All of the "new creation" began at the resurrection of Christ, including our "new person." Our old "man" separated from God, hostile to humanity and devoted to pleasing self, was dealt a death blow by the power of the Cross, so that we may live no longer as enemies of God. Instead our new identity includes acceptance replacing rejection, security vs. fear, inclusion vs. exclusion, favor vs. wrath, blessing vs. a curse. As we know and declare the reality of this new identity in Christ in us, we grow from glory to glory into its complete fulfillment.
