There is one thing that unites us as Christians, and that is our core faith in Jesus Christ and what he has done for us. This "one faith" has been passed down to us in the Apostles & Nicene creeds. Pastor Beth will continue speaking on what the Bible is, and how we can read and learn from it well. It's Christmas Eve!! We'll be celebrating the true meaning of Christmas on Sunday morning at our usual time of 10:30am. Join us for a special, family-friendly candlelight celebration of the birth of Jesus, with carols and a message of joy and wonder.
We launch into this last week of Advent by continuing to make room in our hearts for Jesus. We're going to see how God chose to announce the good news of Jesus' birth to one of the more marginalized people groups in ancient times - shepherds! God continues to reach out to the marginalized, the unloved, the unwanted and the ignored, and asks us to do the same.
We continue "making room" for Jesus this Advent by preparing our hearts for the coming of the Kingdom. We will see how John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming of Jesus and the welcoming of the Kingdom to earth, making the "rough ground level and the rugged places a plain." Jesus' coming changes everything!
We will be looking at the moment when Mary was told she would give birth to our Savior. When God decides to birth a new thing, He does it! I wonder what new thing He might be birthing in us.
Celebrate the season of Advent and the coming of the Christ child! We will be "making room" for God this Advent - keeping our hearts and minds open to God and all the mysterious and wonderful ways He comes to us.
This week, we encounter a very different kind of book of the minor prophets - Habakkuk! Rather than hearing prophetic pronouncements from the prophet, in this book we are eavesdropping on a conversation between Habakkuk and God. In seeing him speak quite boldly and personally to God, and also hearing God's answer, we get to experience what an intimate relationship with God can look like.
The prophet Zephaniah pronounced some of the worst judgments ever uttered against the Kingdom of Judah. Yet he probably helped spark one of the greatest revivals in the history of the kingdom! Join us this Sunday to see how the judgment and mercy of God worked together to restore a remnant of believers during this dramatic period of history, as world powers threatened to destroy the tiny kingdom.
This week, we come to an unusual minor prophet - Hosea! He is called by God to do something strange and hard, and yet it is a way for God to show us His incredible, unchanging, unconditional love. God loves you, just as you are!

This week we are practicing social distancing and are having a live streamed sermon. It is our goal to stay as connected as possible.
Part 3: The already and not yet of the kingdom. In the Bible, Jesus sometimes talks about the kingdom of God being here, and within our reach. People are healed. Lives are transformed. Signs and wonders occur. At other times, Jesus talks about the kingdom as a future reality, as our hope beyond this life. In other words, sometimes people are not healed in the present. Intractable social issues remain. Jobs are lost, hunger continues, and suffering is real.
Our theology of the already and not yet of the kingdom enables us to believe God for miracles, with a theology of the miraculous, and to also trust God when pain is occurring, with a theology of suffering. We believe that both are necessary for a healthy Christian spirituality.
