Pastor: Beth Graham   Is there more to church than just coming on Sunday, singing some songs, hearing a few helpful thoughts from a preacher, saying “Hi” to a few people, and then going home?   If you look at the early church in the book of Acts, the answer is... “YES!” The extraordinary way the early church lived started a movement – an invisible, faith-filled, Spirit-led, healing, freeing way of life that would change the course of history. So it can be with us!   Let's catch the vision for God’s Church and the life that He has for us as the people of God living by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we do, we will find not just personal healing, freedom, and joy, but will also change the world around us. As believers we are meant to reflect God’s heart and care about what He cares about. It turns out that God cares quite a bit about justice and diversity! It is part of God's nature to love all people and desire peace and justice for all. We are going to explore what the Bible tells us about God’s heart for justice and diversity in this series, “A God for all People.”

Psalm 11:7 (NIV) For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.

When God Shows Up there is Love

Pastor Beth Graham

As the season of Advent draws to a close, we focus on the greatest gift of all - the love of God. We will see together just how powerful and great is the love of God for us… and also what we get to do with that love.

This is the fun week of Advent - we get to talk about JOY! We’ll talk about a joy that flows from God’s presence and knowing Him. We’ll encounter a joy that floods through our being when we realize how we are set free and totally loved in Jesus. Don’t we all need just a little more joy?

Is there anyone among us who wouldn’t like to be more peaceful? It is so hard to be peaceful in the midst of all the activity and stress we have in our world today!   We’re going to look this week at how when God Shows Up… he brings peace.   May we learn to cultivate a heart of peace through the presence of Jesus during this week of Advent.    Gate City Vineyard 204 S. Pastor Beth Graham   We are entering the season of Advent, a celebration of God showing up in our world!   When God shows up, great things happen, and He brings us His hope, His peace, His joy, and His love. Jesus showed up in a manger over 2000 years ago and He still wants to show up in your life and in mine!   During our Advent services we will be hearing testimonies from different members of our congregation about how God has shown up in their lives. We will be lighting the Advent wreath and singing songs about the coming Lord Jesus. It will be a joyful time of celebration and praise!   Gate City Vineyard Church 204 S Westgate Dr. Greensboro, NC 27407 https://gatecityvineyard.com  Pastor: Beth Graham

We end our series on the book of James with an encouraging and exciting truth - that God is our Healer! He wants to bring both spiritual and physical healing to us and he uses our prayers offered in faith to do it! Let’s come ready to see God do a healing work in each one of us.

This week James really starts meddling into our business - he talks about money! However, this is an important topic - if we think about it, most of us spend or receive money every single day. Let’s come together and hear what the Bible teaches us about our attitudes and actions regarding our money and wealth, and how we can honor God best with all our resources.

George Ling brings us the word this week.

Join with James as he gets passionate about how we can live with right motives and please God in our words and actions. He says, “Submit yourselves to God… Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up.” Jesus wants to transform us from the inside out, doing a work on the inside that will begin to show itself on the outside. Only by the Holy Spirit - let’s come ready to hear and to be changed!

Chris Larson brings us the Word this week:  This week we examine James’ challenging and convicting words about taming the tongue. We will look at the immense power that words possess, and we will explore how God uses words to breathe life into us and empowers us to speak life into others.

This week we get to the key teaching of the whole book of James. Can you have faith that doesn’t show itself in good deeds toward those around you? James answers with a resounding, “No!” Get real! He tells us that faith not accompanied by action is dead. Join us this Sunday for a word that will speak powerfully to your everyday life.

We continue this week in James 2 and talk about the lure and the sin of favoritism. Do we prefer those who are most like us? Do we discriminate or favor some people over others without meaning to? James does not disappoint as he helps us “keep it real” by examining our own hearts and how we can better love our neighbor.   We will also have a special testimony this week from one of our members regarding Disability Awareness Month.

Are we truly self-aware? Are we easily deceived? Is our religion real? These are some of the questions we will confront this week as we continue our study of the book of James. We will also be celebrating communion together as a church family. Come join us! If you are watching with us online, please have communion elements ready so you can participate with us in celebrating what Jesus has done for us!

Pastor Beth Graham: We are launching into the fall with our study of James this week! This study is going to be about having a REAL faith in the REAL world. James is practical and pulls no punches - you will be challenged by his words to live out what you say you believe. James was the brother of Jesus and so in many ways he speaks with the same tone and attitude as the Lord Jesus. There’s a family resemblance. You will enjoy and be convicted by the practical wisdom that comes from the book of James.

Pastor Beth Graham   This week we conclude our Who? series by talking about how loving our neighbor is a reflection of all that we know about who God is and who we are. As the people of God’s kingdom, we should be the most loving, giving, accepting, welcoming people on the planet! We know who God is, who we are, and who we are to love - so let’s do it!

This week we are talking about loving our neighbor as ourselves - especially in the family of believers! You would think this would be easy… but of course we know it’s not! Let’s look at the Scriptures together and be reminded how to love each other well in the church, so that they will “know we are Christians by our love.

Everyone loves to talk about love – loving God, loving people. It’s basic Christianity! But how do we really do it? How do we live according to Jesus’s command to love God and love our neighbor? We continue this week in our Who? Series exploring how we can nurture a love for God that involves all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

When we decide to follow Jesus, we become a part of a community of believers both locally and globally.  What is God's vision for the church, and how does that shape our journey with Jesus?  As people created in the image of God, how has God designed for us to live, love, and serve within a larger community?

This week, we continue considering the question "Who is God?" and specifically, why we believe what we believe about God. This will be a great week to bring a friend or family member who is seeking God or has questions about whether to believe in Jesus.

Our apologies for the quality, we experienced technical difficulties while recording:

As we enter a new season, some of you many be asking the question,“WHO?” Who is this new person who is our pastor? And I have the same question – Who are all of you? However, there are some other WHO? questions that are even more important than these:  WHO is God? WHO are we (that we need him)? and WHO are we supposed to love? These are foundational, and are the reason we come together at all. I pray we will come out of this series with a powerful understanding of why we are here, why we are a church, and how incredible is the God we serve. —Pastor Beth

Part 3: The already and not yet of the kingdom. In the Bible, Jesus sometimes talks about the kingdom of God being here, and within our reach. People are healed. Lives are transformed. Signs and wonders occur. At other times, Jesus talks about the kingdom as a future reality, as our hope beyond this life. In other words, sometimes people are not healed in the present. Intractable social issues remain. Jobs are lost, hunger continues, and suffering is real.

Our theology of the already and not yet of the kingdom enables us to believe God for miracles, with a theology of the miraculous, and to also trust God when pain is occurring, with a theology of suffering. We believe that both are necessary for a healthy Christian spirituality.
