In a boxing news exclusive, Shauna tells Enswell Boxing that she has just signed a management deal with one of the biggest names in the game. Spencer Brown, the man guiding Tyson Fury for the last number of years will now be the one to guide Shauna to the titles we hope and believe she can win.

This one is very much an impromptu episode following the announcement by Ohara Davies last night. As I watched him call time on his boxing career I recalled the Golden Contract final preview episode Enswell Boxing did with him back in 2020. On that occasion he faced Tyrone McKenna in the final and ultimately won. But the build up had been hot, both fellas never held back and after being hung out to dry by media at an earlier stage of his career - OD could be awkward if he thought he needed to be. we needn’t have worried - he was brilliant. To be honest, love him or not - OD has always been brilliant. Always been himsel, the guy with the Irish name…..

On June 17th 2023 Monaghan's Larry Fryers walked to the ring off the back of a win that few (if any) knew the magnitude of. Not only did it end a losing streak - it proved the benefit of all the mental and personal development were starting to allow Larry deliver on the obvious talent that Irish boxing fans have always adored. On that night Fryers tore into the highly fancied Dimasah Niyazsov (14-1-3) for the WBB Super Lightweight Title. It wasn't just Larry's first belt that caught the eye that night, but the manner in which he tore into his opponent and dismantled him.
It didn't take long for his Hall of Fame manager Russel Peltz phone to start ringing and the follow up fight was soon signed, sealed with Fryers ready to deliver. But on September 11th as he ran his usual 10k route he could never have expected what was to happen when he was hit by a car that failed to stop, throwing him into the air and causing injuries and damage that would not only threaten his boxing career, but could well have cost him a lot more!
In this first (of 2 part) interview Larry talks to Al about all if that, about the arrival of his new son, and about the importance of his faith through a nightmare 12 months that would have finished most other careers. Ian continues his 'Ones to Watch' series as he speaks with Wade Pasfield again after a hugely successful season that saw him win a Leinster title and narrowly miss out in an All Ireland final.

Irish welterweight Francy Luzoho has been a friend of this show since day dot. Back then he was based in Blanchardstown and trained in Inchicore. We've spoken to him in his various stops around the world like Champs camp in Lanzarote, on to Tenerife, to Box Smart Elite in West Midlands and now to MLSS Community hub in Walsall where he has just won the WBF Silver Welterweight title under the tutelage of coach Bhupinder Singh, nicknamed Pops, as he looks to take his career to the next stage.
"I love the struggles and the journey. I'd be lying if I said it was all nice and easy. "I've had my ups and downs, my trials and tribulations during these camps. If the majority of people knew what was going on throughout the camp they'd be shocked, but it's part of the game. It's like a medal of honour and they've moulded me into a more ferocious and vicious fighter."
Despite that, Luzoho has also made himself at home at The MLSS Community Hub is also well known for several initiatives in Bloxwich where they help feed local families and deliver food parcels to schools and although his career at the forefront of his mind, Luzoho joins these community heroes to deliver those services which have grown from feeding one homeless man in 2013 to serving over 42,000 meals every week across 24 cities in the UK, Berlin and India.
We speak to Francy about all of this and also hear from some of the young boxers in the community that Francy is helping to prepare alongside 'Pops' for their upcoming skills bouts.

As most of us begrudgingly emerge from the Christmas and new year slumber, the boxing world has been moving at a pace like never before. Its plain to see the Saudi Arabia 'trickle down' effect has been influential in reigniting the imagination of boxing fans all over the world.
Irish boxing finished the year with two colossal shows in Dublin - where Katie Taylor managed to reinvent herself and even the score with Northampton girl Chantelle Cameron. In our first episode for over a year we take a helicopter view of Irish boxers and boxing and ask some questions that many are asking. IS there a reason for the recent downturn in performances and results? Is it a coaching issue? Style issue? Or are Irish boxers not as good as many believe them to be?
We also take a look at the fractured chasm that opened up between two greats of Irish boxing. Barry McGuigan/s career in the ring is well documented. He gave a glimmer of hope to a divided island in troubled times when there was little hope. Many years later he would be the man at the helm as Carl Frampton delivered European and world titles in different weight divisions. In this episode we look a little closer and ask "Where did it all go wrong?"
Hugh Russell won bronze medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada and at the Olympic Games in Moscow 1980 then went on to have renowned careers as a professional boxer and press photographer. IN the week he was laid to rest, we paid tribute and remember an Irish boxing legend.

Its no secret that boxing is the most uncompromising, unrelenting and sometimes unfulfilling crucibles of all.
Indeed, its no secret you need to be disciplined, dedicated and sometimes deranged to want to be knocked down, trodden on, kicked, cut and bruised. Beaten and battered to the point where every ounce of your being pleads, screams...'ENOUGH'.
And it's definitely no secret how dark the boxing world can be, with a cast of characters and bad actors lurking in the shadows willing, waiting and wanting to feed off boxers given half the chance.
What may come as a surprise to some, is that amongst all of that you will find some oof the most genuine, honest, kind-hearted and REAL: people - of which no 2 are the same.
Most will mask and hide all of those qualities to play the role of the Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Its what they have to do to survive.

In a world that appears to change by the day - at times it would seem that boxing is hell bent on refusing to!
Yes there have been strides in terms of medical and safety protocol and boxers ARE required to comply with THE most stringent health checks, scans and indeed drug testing. But after the shit show that surrounded and eventually collapsed the meeting of Chris Eubank jr and Conor Benn - many boxing observers are left questioning "Has anything really changed"?!

Shannon O'Connell is in the midst of fine tuning her preparations for the December 10th IBF Bantamweight world title showdown with champion and fellow Australian Ebanie 'Blonde Bomber' Bridges at the Leeds Direct Arena - a journey that has been anything but easy!
O'Connell's dad was killed when she was only two. Her mum was taken by the drug scene. It’s not surprising Shannon O’Connell has gone on to become a fighter. But it’s only in recent years she finds herself at home, comfortable with he very idea of being spoken about AND treated like the world class athlete she is!
Earlier this year ‘Shotgun’ was mandated to fight fellow Aussie Ebanie Bridges for the IBF bantamweight world title. In this episode she tells Al her life story and how she feels as she now zeroes in on her lifelong dream.
And joining her is one of Irelands very finest young talents. Niamh Fay won a European gold medal as a youth in 2019 - and this year ‘Fast Hands’ won an U/22 gold medal at the European Championships.

It's rare that boxing can make the back pages of reputable news papers around the world, its even more rare when it stretches across the front AND back pages multiple days in a row. Sadly, on this occasion it hasn't been for the reasons the great sport of boxing wants or deserves.
This podcast has purposely and intentionally maintained radio silence over this time to allow the dust to settle and indeed to spend time researching to find out the who, what and wherefor's in this whole debacle. Believe it when I say - the tentacles of this story will stretch into areas and places that go WAY WAY beyond boxers and boxing and will open many eyes if not shock.

There have been many column inches printed and many hours of audio recorded following the Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall result. Most have asked and made valuable points, but some have been rather self serving. On this episode Al speaks to our mate and go to cut-man/hand wrap expert Tommy McCormack. Tommy wrapped Jack Catterall's hands for that fight and gives us some insight from that locker room and also gives an insight to those last minutes before the fighter makes his ring entrance.
When it comes to operating at the very top level in professional boxing, very few can match Wayne McCullough. When Gerald McClellan & Nigel Benn touched gloves in the centre of the ring back in February 1995 - nobody could be quite sure what was about to happen.
Following one of the most intensely brutal boxing matches of all time, American Gerald McClellan lapses into a coma & began a fight for his life that would leave him with catastrophic brain injuries.
As this episode is released - 27 years after that night, Gerald’s sister & carer Lisa joins us to talk about it all & where Gerald is at today.

Still 2 weeks to go until Christmas but it definitely feels like it’s come early for Irish boxing fans. So many of our pro’s in action all around the world from Friday through to Sunday - this episode highlights all those fights. Arguably the biggest card of the weekend goes down at the Liverpool arena where Katie Taylor shares top of the bill with Conor Benn and todays guest - Chris Algieri.
There’s so many fantastic facets to the former kickboxing champion who transitioned to boxing and reached the summit when he defeated Ruslan Provodkinov to become WBO light Welterweight champion of the world.
He went on to box Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and this weekend he aims to rip up the script and remind the world he’s not done yet!
Last time we chatted with Junior Thompson we were on our way out of lockdown & he was preparing for his 3rd pro fight. He delivered a fine performance that night to go 3/0 and secure a 3 fight promotional deal with Pat Barrett’s Black Flash Promotion’s & he fights again on Saturday in his hometown of Liverpool - Grand Central.

Not long discharged from hospital - Al explains his recent bout of illness & how he’s bouncing back into Season 3 of the podcast.

Willo Hayden, has recently signed with Queensberry Promotions. The Irish prospect has a mysterious following and has won gold at the 2016 European Championships. Hayden has over 300 amateur fights and is undefeated in 45 championship fights in Ireland. Hayden says that he would have loved to go to the senior level and the World Championships but waiting wouldn’t have been optimal for his ultimate goals at the professional levels.
Frank Warren said on signing Hayden;
“I am both delighted and excited to be adding Willo to our ranks. He was undoubtedly the finest amateur talent in Irish boxing and I am looking forward to him showcasing his ability on our shows and to a wider audience on BT Sport.”
Willo speaks to Al about a few weeks they have yet to sink in for him - watch out for the name.

Boxing is famous for many reasons. For its toughness, harshness that borders on cruelty at times. But it also gives anybody willing to dedicate, commit and submit themselves to learning at all costs. To breaking their body and mind over and over again in the chase of becoming the best. Maureen Shea epitomises all that. She fought battles outside the ring just to be able to do all of the above. She suffered in ways that not many recover from and she joins us on this episode to tell it all,
With a record of 29-2 (13KO), Maureen was born and raised in the Bronx, New York to an Irish father, ( NYPD detective and Mexican Mum.
As a pro she first trained with Luigi Olcese, she was eventually brought to Gleasons to train with well respected trainer Hector Roca and went on to hold the WBC interim female featherweight title, the IFBA super bantamweight title and challenged once for the WBA female super featherweight title in 2009 shes also won the NABA Featherweight title and IFBA Junior Featherweight title.
Maureen is currently ranked number 2 by the WBA.

The night 2 teenage girls climbed through the ropes not just to to fight each other - but to fight for the right of every Irish girl to box in the future.
On that historic Halloween night in 2001, they travelled to the world famous South Circular Road ‘Stadium’ for what has since become a historic, momentous occasion.
Katie Taylor and Alanna Audley helped change the face of female boxing in Ireland. Both have gone on to carve out their own paths in the sport and, 20 years on, Al speaks to Irish News journalist and boxing expert Neil Loughran on his memories. And we also hear from Anna Moore - the Irish team manager who travelled from Newbridge to New Dehli, Limerick to Limasol and all the other arenas around the world as Katie Taylor boxed her way into history.
But she was also present the night that journey began and tells us what she saw that night.

Boxing took centre stage at the weekend again with shows in UK, US and Australia. Closer to home it was the Copperbox and Matchroom as Shannon Courtenay had decided to become the righteous, defender of the sport of boxing as she repeatedly attempted to criticise and chastise her Australian opponent Ebanie Bridges for using her 'assets' to sell the fight. The irony of this hypocrisy wasn't lost on most fans, with some suggesting maybe Shannon was upset at being upstaged. How and ever - the fight was a cracker and set the bar for
Conor Benn as he followed with a stunning first round KO over much travelled and highly experienced Samuel Vargas.
But the main event for all boxing fans last weekend was the rescheduled WBO Light Heavyweight title showdown in Oklahoma between fan favourite 'Irish Bomber' Joe Smith jr and Maxim Vlasov who had previously beaten Isaac Chilemba and only lost to Gilberto Ramirez and Krzysztof Glowacki. It didn't disappoint - on the contrary - it stole the weekend and is leading the chase for fight of the year. Al looks back over all the weekends action and talks about what's coming for Irish boxing and boxers and the wider boxing world.

His fists earned him a world flyweight boxing title, but his songs and geniality won him his city’s hearts. Nicknamed the singing Irishman, Rinty Monaghan, even decades after he left the ring, remains a beloved Belfast icon. In a town full of fascinating characters, Monaghan has proven to be one of the most enduringly popular figures Titanic town has ever produced, yet few Irish- Americans know the story of this endearing slugger.
Belfast, a city laden with famous sporting sons - Rinty has been immortalised in a 10-foot-high statue overlooking the place he lived and loved all his life.
Sculpted from bronze and on a Chinese granite platform, it captures Rinty's victory pose.
One hand is raised above his head in triumph, the other holds a microphone; a fitting tribute to a Belfast legend who was so much more than just a boxer.

Many talk about transitions in boxing in terms of switching from amateur to the professional ranks, the same ones who talk about that transition tend to have very little (or no) idea exactly how great a transition that really is. Jamie Conlan made that transition, very successfully & fought at the very highest level against some of the very best. We hear from 2 fellas at very different stages of their lives and indeed boxing careers. Stevie McKenna is a few days away from making his UK TV debut on Channel 5. He chats about the transition he and Aaron have made, how they came home just before lockdown and have effectively been in camp ever since. He chats about training with Freddie Roach and that now infamous spat with Ryan Garcia.
Stephen Ormond on the other hand has seen it all, done it all & owns many t-shirts. In his fighting days - which werent all that long ago he was in with the best and whislt results and things may not have always gone his way - that didn't and couldnt ever define 'The Rock'. You could be forgiven for forgetting just how much Dave Coldwell has done in boxing. Or indeed for how long he has been around the sport. From his childhood years training under Brendan Ingle and where he made a very special group of friends and built eveeything he's needed for life - not
just in boxing. Afer his brief pro career he set out training boxers like Kell Brook (British Title) Ryan Rhodes (European) and then into the murky waters of management and promotion. Then on tothe biggest stage with David Haye at the peak of his career where negotioating with Golden Boy promotions, Klitchko and the rest taught him all he needed for a future that saw him live so manyspecial nights as coach and mentor to Tony Bellew.
He chats about all of that in this episode and more and also tells us how maybe he didnt take timeto live in those moments - to enjoy them, saying "I think as people we're chasing the future too much". It's a wonderful insight to a man who has managed, mentored and coached so many and helped them to realise their dreams.

Boxing is littered wit fairytale stories of accidental champions, unfortunate also-rans and pretty much evrrything else in between - Sam Egglington's story is quite possibly the best of them all. One of the lockdown side-effects is the Irish 'media' taking pot shots at Irish boxers and their sport. The only sport - incase some of them forget - that delivers world class operators, world class atheletes and the only Irish sport that REGULARLY wins international honours in the pro AND amateur codes. Some of their rhetoric maybe justified by events of the past - but should our sport and everybody in it be made to suffer for the actions of others? We have a little look at all that in this episode.

Caoinhin Agyarko grew up in West Belfast and began his affinity with boxing through
Holy Trinity boxing club at the age of 7. When he eventually turned professional in 2019 he had survived a sickening assault which very nearly cost him his life and he hadwon everything there was to win in amateur boxing - nationally and Internationally. His professional career has started in similar, devastating fashion as he is now 6-0.
Caoimhin chats to Al on this episode about growing up in Belfast. About his Irish/Ghanaian background, that sickening assault as he recalls it and his beautiful relationship with the famous Holy Trinity club and their legendary coach Mickey Hawkins.

Isolation is affecting all of us in different ways at different times so if you want a little inspiration,
or a lot of motivation or simply an example of a fantastic human being who refuses POINT BLANK to quit when
the going gets tough. Then this is the episode for you!
Not only has Stacey Copeland played professional football, not only has she represented England women. She also won
multiple multi nation events boxing for Team GB, turned pro and won the Commonwealth title ASWELL as battled back from
a series of injuries - one of which would have been enough to finish most.
Stacey also setup her own foundation Pave The Way and its a real pleaure to have her join this episode and tell us her story.

At the turn of the decade Victor Rabei was sitting pretty & thanking the boxing Gods for what had been a tremendous 12 months - but could have been even better.
He won the BUI Celtic Lightweight title. Defended it once & signed a fantastic promotional deal with US promoter Joe DeGuardia’s - Star Boxing.
In this episode Vic is back to talk about all of that. About life in isolation and indeed the business side
of the sport that many don’t see or know about.
And first appearance on the podcast for St. Micheal's BC boxer Brandon McCarthy who had a pretty
unforgettable 2019. He boxed in the European youth championships, won an Irish intermediate title in October
and finished the year by stepping up and winning the 60kg Elite Senior title in November.

It was December 2018 when Dennis Hogan recorded a points win over Jamie Weetch and set himself up to fight on the
world stage. The first of those was a world title fight against Jamie Munguia for the WBC junior middleweight title.
The records show a points loss for Hogan but the boxing world widely acknowldeged that Dennis won that fight. In the aftermath and upon
reflection - Danny Dimas, Paul Keegan and the team at DDP Promotions weighed up all the offers, considered all avenues and Team Hogan
stepped up to face Jermall Charlo at the Barclay's Centre in New York last December (2019) for the WBC Middleweight title. A HUGE ask -
a calculated risk which may not have paid off in the ring. But Dennis joins us again to discuss all of that, the fights themselves and the
off shoot of that calculated risk.
Joining the podcast for the first time is newly turned pro Ryan O'Rourke. Ryan had quite a successful amateur career where he won nuermous box
cups, represented Ireland and travelled the world in the amateur vest. He turned pro in December 2019 and went 3-0 in less than 3 months. Ryan joins
us on this episode to talk about all of that and about his expectateions, the challemges or turning over and everything else.
