The I Need Travel Therapy podcast is a journey through the wide world of travel therapy, created to share the unique and incredible experiences that come with a travel therapy career. Each episode, host Daryan Van Dellen sits down with travel therapists from all disciplines—including SLPs, PTs, OTs, and other specialties. Join us as we discuss important travel therapy topics, traveler tips, location guides, and amazing stories from the road!
We couldn’t be prouder and more excited to say that we have officially reached episode 50! From all of us at the show, we want to extend a heartfelt and resounding “thank you” to all the amazing guests who have shared their travel therapy stories, advice, and personalities with us and the rest of the travel community.
On a bittersweet note, this episode marks the final appearance by our wonderful host, Daryan Van Dellen, who will be pursuing other endeavors and undoubtedly making her mark wherever she goes. Until we know what the future holds for the podcast, we will be halting new episode releases. About Dr. Dani Sunga, PT, DPT
Dani is a travel PT currently on her fifth travel assignment in Boston. Originally from NJ, she got her DPT from Rutgers in 2019 and then went straight into travel therapy, hoping to get out of her comfort zone, meet new people, try out different settings, and travel the country. Since then, Dani has been lucky enough to do all of those things and more! Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, painting, being a foodie, and exploring new cities/towns while taking in all the views! Stephanie is a solo travel PT currently living in Moses Lake, WA. She is originally from Illinois and has been a traveler for just under a year. Morgan has been a traveling occupational therapist for just under 2 years, starting right as a new grad and moving from PA to the west coast so she could live out her dream of seeing the country and all that it has to offer while working her dream job. She’s been on 5 assignments in SNFs, from OR to CA, to TX, and NC and is planting some temporary roots in Asheville so she can get some inpatient/outpatient/home health experience working PRN for a hospital network. Carly has been an occupational therapist for 4 years, traveling for about 2 of those years. She has worked mainly with pediatric and geriatric populations in several different settings. After a travel contract brought her to Montana, she decided to settle down on stay for a while, though looks forward to traveling again in the future. About Emily Marshall MS, CCC-SLP
Emily graduated from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY in 2018 and immediately moved to Oregon for her clinical fellowship. After completing her CF, she took time off to travel around the west coast before completing a school-age assignment in Washington State. About Rachel Facunla, RRT
Rachel is an RRT who has spent most of her travel career working on a COVID Crisis Unit during the throes of the pandemic. Born and raised in Texas, Rachel was able to provide critical help to small towns around the state when cases were at their worst. Outside of working in Texas, Rachel has also worked an assignment in Santa Barbara, CA. Inspired by her work, Rachel created a YouTube channel, TheRachelProject, that is dedicated to sharing her experience as a travel RT and help inform other RTs who are beginning their careers.

About Joseph Smith EA, MSTax, RRT
Joseph grew up in Greenville, SC, but after graduating from college and marrying his wife, Daina, he hit the road as a traveling respiratory therapist. Those years were fun, with assignments in MN, OH, LA, CT, PA, and MD, but during that time, he began to gather tax clients, eventually using his accounting degree more than his respiratory therapy degree. It was then that Daina made him hang up the stethoscope because she could see what was coming next.
Joe is driven; his Myers-Briggs personality profile is INTJ, aka “the mastermind,” and it fits him. Knowledge is to be constantly gained, categorized, and utilized. That benefits his clients, in that they know that he constantly has his finger on the pulse of the latest tax issues. He also writes for magazines and blogs, posts on numerous tax forums, and answers dozens of emails every day.
Travel is still a big part of his life, but now it is for seminars and consulting contracts with healthcare staffing firms, reviewing their reimbursement policies, and giving recruiters in-services so they understand the tax issues better. He and Daina have almost completed their goal of visiting all 50 states—they are missing just four!

About Haley Krug, OTR/L and Leslie Sellers, PT
Haley is a 24-year-old traveler from Pennsylvania and a graduate of West Virginia University. Haley chose traveling therapy as a route to pursue her passion for working with pediatrics as well as her desire to explore and learn. She took her first travel placement in a North Carolina school district, and her travel was promptly put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Haley extended her contract with the district and could not be happier. The extension has given her the opportunity to build lasting relationships and fall in love with the diverse outdoor opportunities that North Carolina has to offer. She is eager to travel again but believes that her extended time here has taught her a valuable lesson about living in the moment and never just looking to the next contract—you might miss out on some pretty beautiful people and opportunities.
Leslie has been working as a physical therapy contractor for over 23 years(!), beginning her career journey in the medical setting before making the transition into schools. While working in medical, Leslie gained experience in outpatient rehab with both adult and pediatric patient populations, skilled nursing, home health, and inpatient rehab.
The pair met when Haley began her career at their current school district and both were the only therapists in their disciplines—their friendship blossomed quickly and they’ve been working closely together ever since.

David has over ten years of clinical experience as a physical therapist and healthcare leader. Having worked in a multitude of settings, including outpatient, skilled nursing, home health, and his own private practice, he brings a wealth of experience to the field of physical therapy.
David participated, on behalf of AMN Healthcare, as a key contributor for the Healthcare Leadership Counsel’s Opioid Crisis Solution Summit, advocating for healthcare reform and increased access to non-pharmacological alternatives to pain management. He is a state and national speaker at many healthcare conferences nationwide, discussing the role of therapy and reducing opioid use in short-term and long-term care settings.
As a former travel therapist, David, along with his wife Julie and their four children, traveled up and down the east coast for over two years. He is an avid outdoorsman and competitive athlete, competing in CrossFit and running ultramarathons.
Julie Martin, self-proclaimed “Traveling PT Wife,” holds a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from SUNY Cortland. About Sarah Renner, OTR/L
Sarah has been an occupational therapist for nearly 7 years and has spent the majority of her career as a traveling therapist with Advanced! She enjoys the flexibility of traveling and loves to experience new things, whether that means a new practice setting, a different patient population, or a new community to live in and embrace. Sarah is currently working in small town Indiana for a school district; however, she has previously worked in SNFs, acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, outpatient clinics, and as a home health therapist. Sarah adores meeting new people, trying new foods, and exploring all the hiking trails she comes across with her dog, Raven, who travels with her wherever she goes. So far, they have lived in MI, IL, IN, TX, CO, CA, and MD and they are looking forward to adding more states to the list! About Dr. David Martin PT, DPT, MS
Dr. Martin is a clinical leader for AMN Healthcare’s Allied division and supports numerous staffing accounts. He has over 10 years of clinical experience as a physical therapists and healthcare leader. Having worked in a multitude of settings including outpatient, skilled nursing, home health, and owner of his own private practice he brings a wealth of experience to the field of physical therapy. He participated on behalf of AMN Healthcare as a key participant for the Healthcare Leadership Counsel’s Opioid Crisis Solution Summit, advocating for healthcare reform and increased access to nonpharmacological alternatives to pain management. David is a state and national speaker at many healthcare conferences nationwide discussing the role of therapy and reducing opioid use in the long term care and short term care settings. As a previous travel therapist he and his wife Julie along with their 4 children traveled up and down the east coast for over 2 years. He is an avid outdoorsman and competitive athlete competing in CrossFit and running ultramarathons.

Kurt has been an SLP for 3+ years and has worked in a variety of settings with patients across the lifespan. His clinical interests include infant and pediatric feeding, adult dysphagia, aphasia, and traumatic brain injury.
