This modular site acts as a connector between community and photography, and offers a platform for people to celebrate photography in the heart of Singapore. Driven by the belief that photography is for all, it welcomes professionals and amateurs to come together, mingle and be inspired.

Tristan Cai’s multi-disciplinary art practice utilizes research-based ethnographic approaches to understand the human condition. Employing counter-strategies, he produces oblique visual narratives consisting of archival materials, composited photographs, objects and videos to examine the veracities of our histories. He is also constantly reflecting on the possibilities, limits and failures that the medium of photography offers.

Wimo Ambala Bayang (b. 1976) is a visual artist and pioneer in experimental photography and video art in Indonesia. He graduated in Photography from the Indonesian Art Institute in Yogyakarta. In 2002 he co-founded MES 56, an artist collective exploring photography at the intersection with other disciplines, where he continues to be an active member, a space which now runs as a non-profit institution and community. In 2004, Ambala founded Video Battle, an online video compilation produced and distributed independently, currently activated by a new generation of video makers.

In this episode, we chat with Myanmar artist Mayco Naing about experimentation, reflection, and adaptation during her time in quarantine.
Mayco Naing is a contemporary visual artist born and living in Myanmar. She began her photographic careerworking in a small photo studio in Yangon and has gone on to exhibit her socially inspired fine art photography at various art festivals and biennales, including the Lyon Biennale; the Bangkok Biennale; Photography Festivals in Lishui and Dali in China, Bangkok, India and Colorado. Alongside her personal photographic projects, Mayco Naing now works with Yangon Photo Festival, Myanmar’s largest annual photography event. One of her main roles is assisting with the teaching of photography throughout the country, particularly in areas with little or no access to photographic education.

The second episode of A Studio of One's Own features Rattana Vandy, a Cambodian visual artist and filmmaker. In this episode, we chat with him about solitude, quietness, and creation during the global pandemic.
Born in Cambodia in the aftermath of the Khmer Rouge and having grown up in Phnom Penh, Vandy Rattana portrays episodes of historical violence through understated and tranquil images. He began his photography practice in 2005. His serial work employed a range of analog cameras and formats, straddling the line between strict photojournalism and artistic practice.
