In Business Pod with Cass McCrory: Recent Episodes

Cass McCrory

Working with executives in large enterprises, growing businesses, and small businesses I had questions for the people I encountered. Mainly: How are you doing this (looking around at the expanse of leading a full life while leading in business)? Does it feel good? How did you get here? What do you want to do next? How have you prioritized? Where would you do things differently? In this podcast, Cass McCrory takes back the curtain and uncovers how the balance of work and life is being navigated and showcases a new kind of relatable role model. Not because any one of us is doing it perfectly, but because when we showcase how others are doing it we create space for everyone to do it their own unique way and be inspired to adapt and iterate on their own experience.

Last day of July review & August prep time!
(and if you're seeing this and it's already August, it's not too late)

----> 5 great moments of July (we always start with the good stuff).
----> 4 things you learned.
----> 3 things you want to focus on in August.
----> 2% improvement - how could you make what's good better?
----> 1 intention that can keep you on track in August.

And one last question...

What becomes possible in ☀️August☀️ if you show up in alignment with your intention?

Your Camera roll and your Sent email can be very helpful in this exercise.

In 4 sentences: You’ve had a setback you want to bounce back from. The details are incredibly important to you and not at all important to proceed. The work is to contain your experience so it’s a jumping off point for something better. You don’t want to just get back, you want to move forward.

What’s inside: An approach to have you taking Best Next Step action TODAY.

What could get in the way: The idea (which isn’t true) that you’re not ready just yet. You are and the fact that you’re here proves it.

It's Friday. When I was a kid TGIF was a whole thing. Thank Goodness it's Friday. I remember it being promoted around the tv line-up for that night. Full House, Step by Step, Hanging with Mr. Cooper...Family Matters.

But here's the thing that I've come to realize: TGIF is really about anticipatory joy.

It's the joy that we are looking forward to. The best part about anticipation is we see it for its possibility.

Here's the invitation for today: Name the Anticipatory Joy you feel for the weekend.

I'll start you off.

This weekend I'm looking forward to....

Name all the big things, all the little things, the small everyday bits, the ease, the flow, name it.

Now if you read this and thought: oh no, I could not do that, it will just get my hopes up, there's a fairly decent chance it will all blow up. Here's what I want to share: It might. Yes. It might. But in naming it, in being hopeful, for feeling the joy in this moment, for recognizing the possibility you get the IMMEDIATE benefit of Anticipatory Joy. No matter what happens next.

I have 2 things to say about NPC’s. You are not one. Your responses to situations can have RANGE. Having the same response in every situation is not the goal. And if you’ve been interacting with NPC’s that are NEGATIVE in nature- every time you approach this person they give you negativity in response they are an NPC. Don’t go out of your way to visit them in this Universe.

Our brain loves to go to a middle place when we have a goal or objective. Step 30 is way more interesting to our brains than the Best Next Step. So today the question to help you get around this is: What will you need to know to be successful at Step 30? That’s your real Best Next Step today.

Set your intention for the week ahead. How do you want this week to go? How do you want to show up this week?

If your brain immediately went to the “Don’ts” that’s cool! Our brains are tricky like this but it’s good information. Flip those Don’ts to the opposite and now you’ve got yourself an intention.

A little Best Next Step challenge for you today.  I want you to go back to your camera roll to a joyful moment. You can randomly select it or intentionally go to October of 2013 and find a joyful moment to recreate today. You can recreate it in the experience or in the emotion.

You can experience joy over and over and over again. It doesn’t wear out.

Your Best Next Step doesn’t have to be impressive. It doesn’t have to be bold, big, grand, amazing. It just has to be step 1 that gets you moving in the right direction. Today’s reminder is to Let it be simple.

Not everything has to be complicated.

Learn more about Lynda:
https://www.lyndacormier.com/about

About Lynda in her own words:
I am a wife/ mother/ daughter/sister/ speaker/ trainer/ coach/ business owner/ leadership and team-building expert/ confidence advocate/ life lover working with women – just like you – to enrich their lives and elevate their levels of success. Empowering you to take your life to the next level, develop confidence and leadership, overcome overthinking and start having fun while reaching your goals.

Of course, I did not start out with this insight..at least not all of it :)

After graduating from college in English Literature (USC – Fight On !) I realized the world did not really need experts in Shakespeare. Stumbling into sales, I discovered my genuine love for people, and making friends came in handy. After sales jobs, sales management for two Fortune 500 companies, and then sales training for two more, my combined years and success in starting my own company made me an “expert” in something that the world did need. Leadership, team building, business success strategies.

Early in my career I was being interviewed and was asked how I would describe myself. I said, “I am the happiest person I know.” Years later when asked what was ONE tip for success, I said “Open your mouth and your heart at the same time.” It dawned on me that those two statements were more related than I realized. Optimism and confidence were two natural characteristics that made a huge difference for me and now, I just want every woman who has a dream to experience what it feels like to live that dream.

And well, the rest is history (I really love how this word has shifted from history;) — fast forward to today and I am a business owner, speaker and have been working with women entrepreneurs and leaders for over two decades.

Over those two decades plus....(here’s the part where it feels “braggy,” but really, I just want you to know some of what I have been able to accomplish :).

  • I’ve co-founded a multi-million dollar international wellness company, Gia Wellness, and continued speaking for Women’s Events, Division 1 College Athletic teams, companies like Starbucks, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Microsoft sponsored events, and many charitable organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, and Chrysalis Los Angeles.
  • I have created youth leadership and non-profit programs Roots and Wings, Hope Happens, and Heroic Joy Leadership Academy.
  • I’ve been invited to be part of a PBS Documentary that featured 10 Global women who are changing the paradigm in business.
  • I’ve written a coaching program, been published and featured in magazines.

Most importantly:

  • I’ve helped many women business owners double and triple their income, pursue and reach their dreams, and experience more joy in the process than they knew.
  • And... I can’t wait to have you be a part of this amazing community and have the opportunity to work with you

I'm the founder and CEO of Folia Health, where we're harnessing the power of patients and family caregivers to realize the potential of precision care. Prior to joining the crazy world of startups, I worked as a management consultant for organizations in the healthcare, B2B software, and consumer goods sectors, among others.

I went to college at Yale, where I focused on public health and biochemistry. My thesis examined how health reimbursement systems and best-practice protocols agree or conflict with demonstrated outcomes to determine treatment for childhood obesity in the US, UK, and Italy.

I'm a big public health nerd, excited about the promise that health tech holds for improvement of healthcare outcomes.

Jyotsna is an Author Success Coach and founder of Author Success Academy. I am here to help coaches, trainers, speakers and experts to build a super-profitable author funnel with the help of their book. My journey towards freedom began when I decided never to be an employee ever again. I tried out various businesses to support my decision- started a staff recruitment agency, became a franchisee of a chocolate brand, did freelance web designing before I finally started publishing books!

The arrival of my daughter Advika was the turning point in my life. I realized during my maternity break that none of my businesses were giving me the freedom I wanted, to balance my family & career. The moment when I had to choose between attending an important client call and feeding my crying baby, was the defining moment of my life. I chose the latter option and while I was feeding my kid, tears of guilt were dripping from my eyes to her cheeks. I made a decision to find a way to balance both my family and career. I understood that in order to enjoy true freedom I needed to start an online business that’ll allow me to work from wherever I want, whenever I want. That’s how I got into online book publishing.

You know how if you were to get lost in the woods they tell you to stay put? It's much easier for people to find where you are if where you are is not changing. I have a theory. Good moods are out there in the woods looking for you and you moving around busy and frantic amidst all of the stuff there is to do is making it MUCH harder to find you.

I've told myself for a long long time that I need to run for it. The lure of the hustle. I need to CATCH the good mood. I need to effort and action my way to flow and connection. And despite how many times the universe has tried to teach me how wrong this is I keep catching myself doing it.

I can think of no better time to stay where we are and see what catches up to us. I have the best feeling it will be good.

Are you familiar with the idea of having a touchstone ritual?

It's something that I first learned about from a basketball coach I worked with a very long time ago. This coach taught his players a touchstone ritual that they'd all perform after they missed a shot. They tapped their right hand to their left elbow, left wrist and then clapped. It would happen so fast you wouldn't even notice it. Almost like a nervous tick to the outside observer. But to anyone that knew, it was clear: they were giving themselves a fresh start.

This ritual helped them dust off the previous miss. It helped ground them in what they had practiced. It brought a level of awareness to where they were RIGHT NOW - next shot (never last shot).

Every moment of every day is not going to be amazing and we can't let those moments impact our next shot.

Give yourself and everyone in your life a fresh start.

You can even extend this to them - you can forward this email - you can do it in a silent warm smile as you hand them a mug of coffee. Fresh start.

We can learn so much more from the goodness than we ever could from the misses.

With love,
Cass

Hello Season 2.

This is not how I thought this would go.

Have you had that feeling?

We’ve been in this weird place of trying to predict what is to come, attempting to be ready for the unknown, this is life and death serious for so many and all of this chaos is happening while work from home becomes mandatory and our kids are all disrupted from the lives that they understand. We need to be the barometer - we need to set the tone and energy meanwhile we’re pulled in a hundred directions while at the same time having nothing to go do.

That feeling you’re feeling. Whatever it is. Is right.

I wanted to start off this new season on the right foot so I went back to the first 50 women that joined us and I asked 3 questions:

1 What is bringing you joy right now in the space of so much disruption?

2 What have you let side, let go of, released attachment to?

3 What do you intend to improve upon this week.

And now I’m going to share their answers as you’re listening I’d love to invite you to be with us. To answer these questions for you too. Write a comment on the post you see on social media, click reply to my email, be within a community of humans doing this in real time with you.

Before we jump in I did want to share that Each day I’ll be sharing a daily dose of intention. It’s free. There’s no promise for exactly how long but as long as it’s of service I’ll show up. Don’t miss it by getting it fresh in your inbox each morning by signing up here: https://cassmccrory.com/

There are some episodes that really stick with you. This is one of those episodes for me. We meet Bridget Perry mid-career transition; over the last 18+ months leading Adobe Marketing in Europe and deciding that despite a move to London for this role the unexpected shifts weren't in alignment with her biggest gifts as a leader.  I want to just pause there for a moment because this awareness is AWE-inspiring.

We also talk about leading lives of great partnership and community. Being a Mom that created huge opportunities for adventure in moving from the West Coast of the US to London. Running and finding community.

Sharing this time with Bridget left me feeling more comfortable with honoring my own authenticity - that's what being around strong women does. Join us.

Friends, today we’re talking to Ilise Benun. She’s the founder of Marketing Mentor, a firm that specializes in helping creative professionals take their work to the next level, as well as an author, speaker, and teacher.

I’m really excited to share this one -- Ilise taught us a lot in this episode. We talk about the creative life, doing creative work, and how we can position ourselves to keep doing this work without falling into the feast/famine cycle, which many of us in creative or client-based work have found ourselves in.

We talk about discovering who we are and trusting our intuition, and Ilise asks us some really powerful questions: What would be the best thing for me to take in right now? What would it look like if I were ready? Am I learning anything? Is what I’m doing reinforcing the beliefs that are holding me back? What would be beautiful in this moment?

This is a really juicy conversation -- you’re going to have notes from this one.

The end of a decade brings up some things doesn't it? Am I living the life I want to live boldly? Am I taking care of what's most important? Do I feel like I'm being intentional and making a real difference? Am I listening to myself?

In this podcast with Ariane Baer-Harper we talk about all of this. Ariane is inspiring on a level that I knew but couldn't really know until this conversation. We talk about moving to Africa with her family to be the Head of School and then advancing to be the Country Director, we talk about making that huge leap, being brave and modeling that for our kids. We talk about running and cozy pajamas and embracing giving our bodies what they need!

Since recording this podcast I have thought of Ariane EVERY SINGLE DAY, that is not hyperbole. How her language brought out my own desire to experience life through more senses was everything.
