Buy The Right Caliber
When buying your personal protection handgun make sure you get a caliber that ammo is available for. There area a lot of great deals out there on pistols chambered in .380acp, 32, .25 & and a few others calibers and the reason is that it’s hard to find ammunition for them. Like anything in life not all things are created equal and the same goes for your firearms training. In Florida there are no real requirements for training and every class is different. Do you need a license to buy, own or possess a firearm in Florida and are you allowed to use it to defend yourself.
While Florida permits the legal use of medical marijuana, federal law says the user cannot purchase and/or own a gun. A violator faces serious criminal charges with a federal penalty of five-years jail time and a $10,000 fine.
As far as gun ownership by marijuana consumers is concerned it is the federal government that takes the lead and the legal states follow. No gun purchase or possession is allowed to marijuana consumers including medical marijuana cardholders.
Federal Laws:
The Federal Gun Control Act of 1968 and the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 make it illegal for a person who fits into any of the following categories to ship, transport, receive or possess firearms or ammunition.
- Persons who are unlawful users of or are addicted to narcotics or any other controlled substances, including medical marijuana.
- Federal law prohibits medical marijuana users from possessing or buying firearms and ammunition — even if state law allows the drugs use.
Form 4473 of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) states that anyone attempting to buy a gun from a licensed seller must truthfully answer a series of Yes/No questions, including:
“11.e. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”
A marijuana user could, in theory, answer “No” to question 11.e., but that respondent would be violating federal law by doing so and it is a crime punishable as a felony under Federal law, and may also violate State and/or local law.
As you know, Federal law, 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3), prohibits any person who is an ·'unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802))" from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition. Marijuana is listed in the Controlled Substances Act as a Schedule I controlled substance, and there are no exceptions in Federal law for marijuana purportedly used for medicinal purposes, even if such use is sanctioned by State law.

Are All Conceal Carry Classes The Same?
No they are not. With limited to no requirements by the state for Florida, conceal carry classes will vary from class to class. With some classes providing in-depth training and others falling short of even being considered a class. I have seen some classes look more like a time-share sales pitch with the instructor just trying to sell you useless insurance and books.

You Cannot carry in a National Cemetery
VA regulations 38 CFR 1.218 prohibit the carrying of firearms (either openly or concealed), explosives or other dangerous or deadly weapons while on VA property, except for official purposes, such as military funeral honors. Possession of firearms on any property under the charge and control of VA is prohibited. Offenders may be subject to a fine, removal from the premises, or arrest.
This includes parking lots adjacent to or part of the facility if the Federal Agency/Entity owns or has control of the parking lot and it is posted “No Firearms”. The lot has to be posted under federal law if they do not wish to have firearms present.
CHOOSING A HOLSTER
When choosing a holster you will probably go through several before you find the one that you like. With that being said please stairway from the “gimmick holsters” and stick with the name brands. 790.174 Safe storage of firearms required.— (1) A person who stores or leaves, on a premise under his or her control, a loaded firearm, as defined in s. 790.001, and who knows or reasonably should know that a minor is likely to gain access to the firearm without the lawful permission of the minor’s parent or the person having charge of the minor, or without the supervision required by law, shall keep the firearm in a securely locked box or container or in a location which a reasonable person would believe to be secure or shall secure it with a trigger lock, except when the person is carrying the firearm on his or her body or within such close proximity thereto that he or she can retrieve and use it as easily and quickly as if he or she carried it on his or her body. (2) It is a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083, if a person violates subsection (1) by failing to store or leave a firearm in the required manner and as a result thereof a minor gains access to the firearm, without the lawful permission of the minor’s parent or the person having charge of the minor, and possesses or exhibits it, without the supervision required by law: (a) In a public place; or (b) In a rude, careless, angry, or threatening manner in violation of s. 790.10. Shooting Without Sights Part 2
In a self-defense situation are you going to use your sights.
Do you have an obligation to tell Police when you are pulled over for a basic traffic stop that you have a firearm on your person or in the car?
This is for a traffic stop for a motor vehicle violation only.To be clear, Florida Statute 790.06 - “License to carry concealed weapon or firearm” states that an individual has no “duty to inform” a law enforcement officer that they are carrying a concealed weapon or firearm (some states do, however).

No driver in Florida has a duty to tell police when they are armed
No one is required or obligated say that they have a firearm. Some officers will still ask about weapons in the car; you still aren't required to disclose that.
If you do disclose that you have a firearm they will most likely just tell you as long as it stays in place everything is good.
However, some may ask
to remove the weapon from the car for the duration of stop.
This is a simple request…….
It is NOT a lawful order, only a request. You CAN refuse, unless the officer has an articulable reason to disarm you against your will

Can you carry a concealed firearm during a State of emergency?
With Hurricane Dorian making landfall soon this is a question that we have been receiving a lot and here is the answer.
Under Florida State Statute 790.01 all lawful gun owners are permitted to carry a concealed weapon if they are complying with a mandatory evacuation during a state of emergency.The law allows for a 48-hour window that this would be allowed after the evacuation has been ordered. However, the governor can authorize an extension as needed.
(a) A person who carries a concealed weapon, or a person who may lawfully possess a firearm and who carries a concealed firearm, on or about his or her person while in the act of evacuating during a mandatory evacuation order issued during a state of emergency declared by the Governor pursuant to chapter 252 or declared by a local authority pursuant to chapter 870. As used in this subsection, the term “in the act of evacuating” means the immediate and urgent movement of a person away from the evacuation zone within 48 hours after a mandatory evacuation is ordered. The 48 hours may be extended by an order issued by the Governor.

How Do You Carry In Your Car
When driving how do you carry your gun. Do you just keep it on your side or do you have that special secrete location or vehicle holster?
Road Rage and Guns.
If you come across an aggressive driver just remember it’s not worth it. Ask yourself a few questions:
- Is your life in immediate danger of serious bodily injury or death?
- Is it worth your life or someone else?
- Is it worth your freedom?
- Could it have been an honest accident?
LET IT GO! It is not worth anyone’s life or freedom.
Florida State Stature 316.1923 Aggressive careless driving.—“Aggressive careless driving” means committing two or more of the following acts simultaneously or in succession:

Exceeding the posted speed limit;

Improperly or unsafely changing lanes;
-
Tailgating;
-
Failure to yield the right of way;
-
Improper or dangerous passing; or
-
Failure to obey traffic control devices.
LET IT GO! It is not worth anyone’s lives or freedom.

Can you carry a concealed weapon in a bar? NO!
Under Florida state statute:
“Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption. (Portion primarily devoted to such purpose) (790.06 (12))”
How about in a restaurant or liquor store? Yes you can carry in a restaurant as long as you are not sitting at the bar and yes you can carry in a liquor store.
Be Smart! If you’re going to drink leave your weapons at home and please don’t drink and drive.
Training Tip
When training for everyday life personal protection, get rid of the useless gear. If you’re not going to carry or wear it daily DON’T train with it.
SO You’re Buying Your First Gun
So you’ve made the decision (a good one) to buy a gun. A gun is a gun is a gun, am I right? Not quite. There are many options in the marketplace that vary depending on your preferences and it is up to us (with your help) to find you the right one.
Before we proceed we must discuss the 4 rules of firearm safety. The improper handling of firearms can have tragic consequences. Always follow these rules, ALWAYS.
- Treat every gun as if it is loaded.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
- Never point a gun at something you are not willing to destroy.
- Always be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Why Are You Buying a Gun?
There are a number of reasons for needing a gun and it is our job to ask the right questions and find you the right firearm for the job at hand. What will you use it for? A recommendation on a hunting weapon will be quite different than one for personal protection. Even within the context of personal protection, the perfect (to you) concealed carry firearm could be totally different to one you would choose for home defense. Factors such as ease of conceal, magazine capacity, caliber and sight radius may be important in some categories but not others. Understanding what it is that you wish to use the gun for will help you decide which gun or sub-category of gun is right for you.
Type of Guns
To a potential new gun owner some of the lingo can be quite confusing. But once you become more familiar with firearm terms such as SA/DA and striker-fired it is really quite easy. The selection of guns available is phenomenal; a reflection of current consumer tastes. While most would agree they need the same thing (a firearm to use to hunt or protect etc.) they may not want the same style due to their own personal preferences. Do you prefer revolvers to semi-autos? Like striker- over hammer-fired pistols? Would you prefer a semi-automatic rifle for home defense rather than a handgun or shotgun? Would you rather a semi-automatic versus a pump-action shotgun? Our intent is to find you a firearm that is designed for your purpose that meets your needs and expectations.
How Much Should You Spend?
When it comes to guns you really do get what you pay for… to a certain extent. It would be difficult trying to explain why you opted for a $100 gun with known issues versus one from a reputable manufacturer for $300. $200 is a lot of money to most people, but is it worth more than your life? Remember you will only take that firearm out when it is time to use it. You want to be assured that it will work every time, not just some of the time.
You can spend hundreds dollars, you can even spend thousands if you want to, but after a certain point the quality does not change; you are simply paying for the brand and design. For plinking rifles and general range toys I have no advice. But when it comes to firearms that are for your defense, buy from a reputable manufacturer with a model/type that has been out long enough to be properly tested.

Handgun Action Type: The action is the operating mechanism of the handgun. Generally speaking, all the moving parts of a handgun make up its action. Action as it refers to trigger function is broken down into two primary categories: Single Action and Double Action.
- Single Action Only (SAO)
A SAO trigger performs the single (only) action of releasing the hammer or striker to fire the gun each time the trigger is pressed. If the hammer is not cocked on a SAO gun like a 1911, pressing the trigger will result in no shot being fired.
2) Double Action (DA)
DA indicates that pressing the trigger causes two (double) actions at the same time: (1) cocking and (2) releasing the hammer. DA triggers provide the ability to fire the gun whether the hammer is cocked or uncocked.
3) Double Action Only (DAO)
DAO guns cannot be fired in SAO mode. DAO guns cannot be manually cocked, since the hammer is only cocked and released by trigger manipulation. The hammer will not be automatically cocked after a shot is fired.
4) Double Action/Single Action (DA/SA)
This type of trigger the first shot can be double action or single action, depending on if the trigger is pressed initially for double action or if the hammer is manually cocked back with the thumb for single action, but one press of the trigger does cock and release the hammer if it is not cocked manually.
5) Striker-Fired or Partially Cocked Striker (SF)
Striker-Fired guns strictly speaking are neither DAO nor SAO trigger mechanisms. They are striker fired, with their own system, trigger safeties and striker blocks, etc
Knife Locking Mechanisms
Liner Lock- thin leaf spring style lock that folds in from the side of the handle. usually made for lighter duty.
Back lock- has a steel bar that runs the tang of the handle and locks down into the blade. Made for medium duty.
Compression lock- leaf spring design just like a liner lock, but is on the back side of the knife for safety and ease of use. Light to medium duty.
Frame lock- is a thick leaf spring design usually steel or titanium that fold in from one side of the handle. Medium to heave duty.
Button lock- usually for auto knives has a steel cross pin running between the two handles, easy to operate. Medium duty.

A lot of people tell me that they purchased a Glock or whatever because their neighbor or friend told them that it is the easiest gun to disassembly. I feel that statement is false. Is the glock easy to take apart, yes however there are several other quality guns on the market that are just as easy if not easier.
