Shane Feldman | Episode #20

Shane is the founder and CEO of COUNT ME IN, a world-renowned social entrepreneurship incubator. What started as a small project in his high school locker, now is made up of 10.2 million people in 104 countries. It has launched more than 30,000 ventures worldwide, contributing to over $2.6 billion to the global economy through service. Shane also does keynote speaking for companies, groups, and organizations.

Community Leadership: Every successful venture in this world is based around community. We must be able to listen to understand, not just to respond. Giving members and those around a sense of ownership in something is critical.

Social Dilemma: A recent documentary about the power of Social Media. This directly pertains to teens and how society currently functions. To combat this, Shane offers some tips about "Architecting Your Day."

Patrick Lencioni | Episode #19

Patrick is the founder and President of The Table Group, author of 11 books that have sold over 6 million copies, and a professional leadership speaker. He has spoken to Google, NFL/NBA Teams, Southwest Airlines, and Chick-fil-A. His work has been featured in Fortune, USA TODAY, and Harvard Business Review. He hosts two podcasts: At The Table and The Simple Reminder.

Humility: Pride is at the root of all problems for us. Many people, especially high schoolers, become masters at pretending to show humility. Just understand that all of these vanity metrics will one day mean absolutely nothing. Learn to accept yourself and celebrate others in their wins. Don't get caught up in the societal comparison trap.

Growing Up: Suffering is a part of growth. It's completely normal to suffer and experience hardships in your teenage years. For Pat, being small and immature was a major struggle. Also, he suffered from severe OCD as a child. Sometimes we need to learn from adults that aren't our parents. Find a mentor and or someone that understands and accepts you for you.

The Ideal Team Player: Humble, Hungry, Smart. Put in the work not because people will praise you, but because you embrace the grind. Learn to understand people (Emotional Intelligence). These 3 areas are huge when applying for a job. Check out Pat's book The Ideal Team Player to learn more.

Travis Chappel | Episode #18

Travis is an international speaker, founder and CEO of Guestio, and the host of two awesome podcasts: Build Your Network and World Class. Travis grew up in southern California where religion dominated his entire childhood. After graduating from college, he decided to pursue a passion in podcasting where he would go on to create a Top 25 Business Podcast.

Speaking: Your level of pay in life is directly related to the skillset you have that not a lot of people do. If you're able to overcome the initial terror of public speaking your career and success will be exponentially greater. Travis spoke to a church crowd of 1500-2000 people at the age of 15 years old. He also recommends getting as many experiences as possible, such as Toastmasters.

Career Switch: The sooner you can come to the realization of what you want to do, the better. Parents are often responsible for instilling values in us about where to go to college and what to become. The fear of letting them down often limits our ambitions. Making a major decision or shift in life comes with many feelings; both good and bad. Just remember: you're the only person who has to be you! Start gaining experiences and trying new things.

Content: Step 1: Consume as much content as you can. Your input becomes your output. Step 2: document everything you do. Step 3: get great guests in order to bump up your quality. You must be able to add value to the lives of others.

Networking: "Network Ned" is the ultimate bad networker. This person has tons of business cards, is constantly pitching their elevator speech, and is more transactional than anything. The other type of networker is the person who is so turned off by "Network Ned" that they don't try at all. There is a happy middle where relationships and friendships are at the core of the conversation.

Meredith Edwards | Episode #17

Meredith is a model, Mary Kay consultant, and host of the podcast "meredith for real: the curious introvert."

Art of Curiosity: A lot of us, like Meredith, sometimes want to talk your ear off while other times would rather throw some headphones on and be alone. Being curious breaks through any fear or intimidation you may experience. Developing this skill requires intentional listening and empathy.

Traveling More as a Leader: Leaders must travel. Getting to experience different cultures, people, and societies is a life-changing opportunity. Great leaders take every chance they can to go out and explore. Meredith personally loved traveling to Nicaragua.

Teenage Longevity: This is what Meredith said distinguishes great teen leaders from average ones. Many people seem to "peak" in high school and never go on to do anything meaningful. Don't get discouraged if you're not living up to your peers while a teenager. Oftentimes, what they are exhibiting is a false sense of success. Being able to maintain greatness is a much more impressive feat.

Derek Rippe | Episode #16

Derek is a Brooklyn-based illustrator that currently works at BarkBox as the Director of Toys. Previously he was at Nickelodeon for 13 years where he helped design toys for shows like SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Paw Patrol.

Designing SpongeBob: Derek spent a great deal of his time working on the designs for SpongeBob toys. He knows the characters inside and out, literally. In 2019, his design for the Macy's Day Parade SpongeBob balloon was selected and made a reality.

Nickelodeon Culture: What we see on the outside is very similar to what goes on inside at Nickelodeon. The fun-loving and creative atmosphere is central to the culture. Derek also shares some unique information about the infamous slime!

How To Be More Creative: We get a look at the day-in-the-life of a Director of Toys. Derek talks about how the creative process can't be forced. He explains how Instagram has been an amazing outlet for his work. Getting started and constantly creating are more major points about being more creative.

Lamarr Womble | Episode #14

Lamarr is a motivational speaker and founder of Passion for Leadership. He primarily works with middle school, high school, and college students from across the country. From leadership to personal development, school culture to passion, Lamarr is driven to empowering the lives of future leaders.

Passion Mindset: This frame of mind is an on-going piece of work. You must be prepared to handle adversity at all times and make the switch when it'd needed. Understanding what you were made to do is key to being an effective leader.

School Culture: The first step is to go on a "listening tour." Take some time to hear what other students, faculty, and teachers have to say about what's taking place within the halls. This will give you the most realistic starting point in regards to your school's culture. From there, you can work to develop certain pillars you would like to emphasize.

Teen Adversity: The pressure and expectations about going to college can negatively consume high school students. Between AP courses, writing essays, filling out scholarships, and standardized testing, it can be a lot to manage. Focus on defining your success and practicing empathy and execution at all times.

Patty Hendrickson | Episode #13

Patty is a professional public speaker from La Crosse, Wisconsin. She speaks to companies, organizations, and student officer teams about leadership development.

Energy: Bringing the energy to everything you do is crucial. Patty says to meet people at their energy level. This will allow you to make a better, more meaningful connection.

Public Speaking: It's not about you, but rather your audience. "Connection before content." This means that the relationships you build as a speaker are extremely important. Try to warm up your body before giving a speech on stage. Taking a moment of silence when you are about ready to begin is a great tip.

Team Leadership: Creating a sense of trust and vulnerability on your team is a must. This will allow ideas to flow more smoothly and a more efficient team. Try sitting by the person you know the least at your next meeting or activity. Value the opinions of underclassmen or new members.
