Facebook recently changed their name to Meta so they could promote their new Virtual Reality Metaverse. The idea behind it is to experience much of life in a virtual reality condition. You can do business meetings in VR. Go on trips in VR. Go on dates in VR. Is this a good thing? Here is why I don't think so. Everyone that loves animals should support animal rights. Right? No. I explain why no one should support animal rights in today's podcast.
Who is right? Roman Catholics? Eastern Orthodox? Classic Protestantism?
I debate myself on these questions and I definitely win this debate.
Is it a good idea that we as a society are now embracing marijuana use? Is alcohol worse? Check it out.
Corporations are a part of our life. But do we ever stop and ask whether they are good for society or not? Let's talk about their effects on society.
Is atheism the enlightened view? Does atheism result from intelligence? In today's episode I make the case that the opposite is true.
Freedom and equality are both good things right? In today's podcast I explain why they actually cannot go together.
Most people think that the scientific revolution and the Enlightenment drove the improvements we see in todays world - it was the moment the world turned and started becoming a better place. But the real turning place took place much earlier.
Business owner, philosopher, apologist and all around big thinker Will Campbell joins the podcast to discuss the role of corporations in the society and provide some pushback to my anti-Corporate leanings.
The LGBT movement has been incredibly successful and now is widely embraced by all. But how will future generations see this movement? I address the issues around this movement in today's episode.
A common objection to Christian moral teaching (particularly on sexual issues) is that Christians seem to pick and choose what Old Testament commands they follow. Why do Christians follow the 10 commandments but not the dietary commands? Why do Christians reference Old Testament statements against homosexuality but not Old Testament statements against the mixing of fabrics? There are very good answers to these questions and I discuss them in today's episode.
Does America have a dark history of mistreating women? Is Feminism the solution? Check out the latest episode of the 'Emperor has No Clothes'
Here I argue that the track record of the USA on race and slavery has been wrongly told. Far from having a tragic story on slavery, the USA banned it fairly early compared to other nations. And our track record on race is also misunderstood.
NN Taleb is supposed to be a risk expert. Why is he so bad at seeing the risks related to COVID 19?

Christians have enjoyed majority status in the West for many years but in many ways this appears to be changing. What does it look like for us to live among people that are hostile to our values, morals, and principles? While these are new questions for Western Christians, they are very old questions for Western Jews. Today I talk with Rabbi Juan Marcos Bejarano-Gutierrez about how Jews have navigated being a religious minority over the centuries and what the implications might be for Christians today. We also talk about the ancient Jewish context of the New Testament and how understanding this history adds color to the Christian experience of reading scripture.
Rabbi Juan is an author who has written extensively on the history of Judaism and on Jewish engagement with the Christian majority throughout the years. Rabbi Juan recommended two of his books during this podcast:
For Christian listeners: Divine Fragmentation
For Jewish listeners: Killing the Torah
I also discussed the writings of Christian theologian NT Wright on the ancient Jewish context of the New Testament. A great book to understand this would be his, "New Testament and the People of God."
Author Damien Harrison (aka @tallatheistdad on Twitter) came on the show to talk about religion and politics... enjoy.
Damien Harrison joins again from Australia giving his take on the American election and COVID19 lockdowns. He then gives an atheist's take on Christian apologetic, abortion, and hell. Interesting conversation as always.
