2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배 Humble and Intimate Worship’
이번 주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 요한복음 3:14~21의 말씀을 나눕니다. 교회를 다니지 않는 사람들도 많이 들어본 ‘하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 저를 믿는 자마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻으리로다 (요한복음 3:16)’ 의 말씀을 중심으로 하나님의 사랑의 깊이와 넓이에 대해서 말씀을 준비합니다.
특히 로마서 5:8절의 말씀 ‘우리가 아직 죄인 되었을 때에 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 죽으심으로 하나님께서 우리에 대한 자기의 사랑을 확증하셨느니라’에서 증거하는 ‘하나님의 사랑’과 연결하여 죄인들을 향한 하나님의 사랑의 내용, 방법, 그리고 결과에 대해서 말씀을 나눕니다.

하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 (요한복음 3:14~21) For God so loved the world (John 3:14~21)
14 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 인자도 들려야 하리니 15 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
16 하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이라
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하려 하심이 아니요 그로 말미암아 세상이 구원을 받게 하려 하심이라
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18 그를 믿는 자는 심판을 받지 아니하는 것이요 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님의 독생자의 이름을 믿지 아니하므로 벌써 심판을 받은 것이니라
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
19 그 정죄는 이것이니 곧 빛이 세상에 왔으되 사람들이 자기 행위가 악하므로 빛보다 어둠을 더 사랑한 것이니라
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
20 악을 행하는 자마다 빛을 미워하여 빛으로 오지 아니하나니 이는 그 행위가 드러날까 함이요
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.
21 진리를 따르는 자는 빛으로 오나니 이는 그 행위가 하나님 안에서 행한 것임을 나타내려 함이라 하시니라
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배 Humble and Intimate Worship’
이번주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 우리에게 잘 알려진 ‘가난의 혼인 잔치 (물이 포도주로 변한 기적) (요한복음 2:1~12)’의 말씀을 나눕니다.
우리의 삶에 기적이 일어나기 위한 조건이 있습니다. 나의 믿음의 정도와 헌신보다도 제일 먼저 충족이 되어야할 조건이 있습니다.
이번 주에는 반드시 필요한 조건이 무엇인지를 요한복음 2장의 말씀을 통해서 확인해 보겠습니다.
We have many needs and requests for God. As we worship and praise God alone, we hope that God will meet our needs. However, as Apostle Paul defines, we are only blessed and justified by God through His grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness. Even though we have completed many faithful works for the glory of God, there is one condition that must be satisfied before everything. This Thursday evening, we are going to find out what the first condition is in our faith journey.

기적의 조건 (요한복음 2:1~12) The first sign of His glory (John 2:1~12)
1 사흘째 되던 날 갈릴리 가나에 혼례가 있어 예수의 어머니도 거기 계시고
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
2 예수와 그 제자들도 혼례에 청함을 받았더니
and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 포도주가 떨어진지라 예수의 어머니가 예수에게 이르되 저들에게 포도주가 없다 하니
When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 예수께서 이르시되 여자여 나와 무슨 상관이 있나이까 내 때가 아직 이르지 아니하였나이다
“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 그의 어머니가 하인들에게 이르되 너희에게 무슨 말씀을 하시든지 그대로 하라 하니라
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 거기에 유대인의 정결 예식을 따라 두세 통 드는 돌항아리 여섯이 놓였는지라
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 항아리에 물을 채우라 하신즉 아귀까지 채우니
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 이제는 떠서 연회장에게 갖다 주라 하시매 갖다 주었더니
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
9 연회장은 물로 된 포도주를 맛보고도 어디서 났는지 알지 못하되 물 떠온 하인들은 알더라 연회장이 신랑을 불러
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realise where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
10 말하되 사람마다 먼저 좋은 포도주를 내고 취한 후에 낮은 것을 내거늘 그대는 지금까지 좋은 포도주를 두었도다 하니라
and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 예수께서 이 첫 표적을 갈릴리 가나에서 행하여 그의 영광을 나타내시매 제자들이 그를 믿으니라
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
12 그 후에 예수께서 그 어머니와 형제들과 제자들과 함께 가버나움으로 내려가셨으나 거기에 여러 날 계시지는 아니하시니라
After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.

2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배 Humble and Intimate Worship’
이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 ‘우리는 하나님의 성전입니다 We are the temple of God (학개 1:2~11, Haggai 1:2~11)’라는 제목의 말씀을 나눕니다. 교회당 건물이 없어도 함께 모여 예배드리는 사람이 있으면 교회가 세워집니다. 그래서 ‘가정 교회, 직장 교회, 카페 교회’와 같은 새로운 교회의 이름들이 장소 중심이 아닌 사람들의 모임을 중심으로 만들어 집니다.
따라서 학개의 예언을 통해서 선포되는 “성전을 지으라”는 하나님의 명령은 ‘건물’이 아닌 ‘함께 모여 예배드리라’라는 명령임을 찾을 수 있습니다. 당시의 이스라엘 민족은 70년간의 노예 생활을 마치고 고향으로 돌아와 정착하기에 바빴습니다. 편히 쉴 집을 지었고, 안전을 위해 성벽을 쌓았습니다. 자신들의 필요를 채우기에 급했던 백성들에게 하나님이 명령하십니다 “나를 먼저 기념하고 예배하라!”
현대인의 생활과 비교할 때 큰 차이가 없습니다. 심지어 사역자들도 ‘무엇을 먹고, 입고 마실까?’라는 것에 급급해서 하나님의 영광을 뒷전에 두고 소홀히 하는 것이 일반적인 일이 되었습니다.
이번주 학개서의 말씀을 통해서 예배하는 이들이 가장 먼저 해야 할 것을 확인하는 시간을 갖겠습니다.

우리는 하나님의 성전입니다. (학개 1:2~11) We are the temple of God (Haggai 1:2~11)
2 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하여 이르노라 이 백성이 말하기를 여호와의 전을 건축할 시기가 이르지 아니하였다 하느니라.
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the LORD’s house.’”
3 여호와의 말씀이 선지자 학개에게 임하여 이르시되 4 이 성전이 황폐하였거늘 너희가 이 때에 판벽한 집에 거주하는 것이 옳으냐?
Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”
5 그러므로 이제 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노니 너희는 너희의 행위를 살필지니라 .
Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.
6 너희가 많이 뿌릴지라도 수확이 적으며 먹을지라도 배부르지 못하며 마실지라도 흡족하지 못하며 입어도 따뜻하지 못하며 일꾼이 삯을 받아도 그것을 구멍 뚫어진 전대에 넣음이 되느니라.
You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
7 만군의 여호와가 말하노니 너희는 자기의 행위를 살필지니라. 8 너희는 산에 올라가서 나무를 가져다가 성전을 건축하라 그리하면 내가 그것으로 말미암아 기뻐하고 또 영광을 얻으리라 여호와가 말하였느니라.
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honoured,” says the LORD.
9 너희가 많은 것을 바랐으나 도리어 적었고 너희가 그것을 집으로 가져갔으나 내가 불어 버렸느니라 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노라 이것이 무슨 까닭이냐 내 집은 황폐하였으되 너희는 각각 자기의 집을 짓기 위하여 빨랐음이라.
“You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the LORD Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.
10 그러므로 너희로 말미암아 하늘은 이슬을 그쳤고 땅은 산물을 그쳤으며 11 내가 이 땅과 산과 곡물과 새 포도주와 기름과 땅의 모든 소산과 사람과 가축과 손으로 수고하는 모든 일에 한재를 들게 하였느니라.
Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the olive oil and everything else the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.”

2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배 Humble and Intimate Worship’
이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 ‘하나님의 돌보심 (오바댜 1:1~4)The Vision of Obadiah (Obadiah 1:1~4)’ 제목으로 ‘예언자 오바댜’의 말씀을 나눕니다.
신앙 생활하면서 가장 어려운 것은 ‘용서함’이라고 생각합니다. 사랑하고 섬기는 것은 구체적인 대상이 아니어도 되지만 용서함의 대상은 구체적이고 개인적입니다.
그래서 ‘용서’라는 하나님의 명령에 순종하는 것이 당연하지만, 때로는 구체적인 특정 인물을 용서하기란 결코 쉽지가 않습니다.
용서하지 않는 이가 가지고 있는 것은 복수와 분노이지만, 용서하는 이가 가지고 있는 것은 사랑과 화해 입니다.
바로 하나님은 사랑과 화해의 주님이시기 때문에 예수 그리스도의 십자가를 통해서 우리를 용서해 주시고 자녀로 삼아 주셨습니다.
이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 예언자 오바댜의 말씀을 통해 용서하는 자와 용서하지 않는 자에 대해 나누겠습니다.

하나님의 돌보심 (오바댜 1:1~4)The Vision of Obadiah (Obadiah 1:1~4)
1 오바댜의 묵시라. 주 여호와께서 에돔에 대하여 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 우리가 여호와께로 말미암아 소식을 들었나니 곧 사자가 나라들 가운데에 보내심을 받고 이르기를 너희는 일어날지어다 우리가 일어나서 그와 싸우자 하는 것이니라
The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Sovereign LORD says about Edom. We have heard a message from the LORD: An envoy was sent to the nations to say, “Rise, let us go against her for battle”
2 보라 내가 너를 나라들 가운데에 매우 작게 하였으므로 네가 크게 멸시를 받느니라
“See, I will make you small among the nations; you will be utterly despised.
3 너의 마음의 교만이 너를 속였도다 바위 틈에 거주하며 높은 곳에 사는 자여 네가 마음에 이르기를 누가 능히 나를 땅에 끌어내리겠느냐 하니
The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
4 네가 독수리처럼 높이 오르며 별 사이에 깃들일지라도 내가 거기에서 너를 끌어내리리라 여호와의 말씀이니라
Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.
(22 JUNE 2023) 2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배 Humble and Intimate Worship’ 7월과 8월은 구약 성경에 기록된 예언서의 통해 ‘신실한 예배자’를 찾으시는 하나님의 말씀을 나눕니다. 특히 이번 주 목요찬양집회에서는 요나서 2장의 말씀을 통해서 우리가 주님을 찾는 시기와 상황에 대해서 말씀을 나눕니다. 요나는 자신이 원하는 것을 쫓았습니다. 그러나 아무것도 할 수 없는 상황이 되자, 그때부터 하나님을 찾고 하나님께 기도하기 시작했습니다. 반면 아브라함, 야곱, 요셉으로 이어지는 신실한 하나님의 백성들은 항상 늘 그랬듯이 주님과 동행하는 삶을 살았습니다. 사자굴에 던져지는 위기에 처한 다니엘의 기도가 그 대표적인 좋은 예가 됩니다. 이번 주 목요찬양집회를 통해서 우리의 신앙 생활을 다시한번 점검하는 시간을 가져봐요.

But you, LORD my God,brought my life up from the pit. 7 내 영혼이 내 속에서 피곤할 때에 내가 여호와를 생각하였더니 내 기도가 주께 이르렀사오며 주의 성전에 미쳤나이다 “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. 8 거짓되고 헛된 것을 숭상하는 모든 자는 자기에게 베푸신 은혜를 버렸사오나 “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. 9 나는 감사하는 목소리로 주께 제사를 드리며 나의 서원을 주께 갚겠나이다 구원은 여호와께 속하였나이다 하니라 But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the LORD.’

One field had rain; another had none and dried up. 4:8 두 세 성읍 사람이 어떤 성읍으로 비틀거리며 물을 마시러 가서 만족하게 마시지 못하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the LORD. 4:9 내가 곡식을 마르게 하는 재앙과 깜부기 재앙으로 너희를 쳤으며 팥중이로 너희의 많은 동산과 포도원과 무화과나무와 감람나무를 다 먹게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 “Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the LORD. 4:10 내가 너희 중에 전염병 보내기를 애굽에서 한 것처럼 하였으며 칼로 너희 청년들을 죽였으며 너희 말들을 노략하게 하며 너희 진영의 악취로 코를 찌르게 하였으나 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 “I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the LORD. 4:12 그러므로 이스라엘아 내가 이와 같이 네게 행하리라 내가 이것을 네게 행하리니 이스라엘아 네 하나님 만나기를 준비하라 “Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God.” 4:13 보라 산들을 지으며 바람을 창조하며 자기 뜻을 사람에게 보이며 아침을 어둡게 하며 땅의 높은 데를 밟는 이는 그의 이름이 만군의 하나님 여호와시니라He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth - the LORD God Almighty is his name.
7:7 또 내게 보이신 것이 이러하니라 다림줄을 가지고 쌓은 담 곁에 주께서 손에 다림줄을 잡고 서셨더니 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. 7:8 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 아모스야 네가 무엇을 보느냐 내가 대답하되 다림줄이니이다 주께서 이르시되 내가 다림줄을 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데 두고 다시는 용서하지 아니하리라.And the LORD asked me, “What do you see, Amos?” “A plumb line, ” I replied. Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.
(15 JUNE 2023) 2023년 CRW ‘섬김과 친밀함이 넘치는 예배 Humble and Intimate Worship’ This is the sentence that I’ve kept in my mind for a while, ‘Good observation should give you good foresight.’ ‘관찰을 잘 하면 현재와 곧 일어날 일에 대한 통찰력이 생긴다’ 라는 말씀은 구약성경 예언서를 요약하는 가장 적적한 표현이라고 생각을 합니다. 이번주 목요찬양집회에서는 ‘호세아 6:1~3’ 말씀을 통해서 ‘신앙의 통찰력 Faithful Foresight’ 제목의 말씀을 나눕니다.

Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God (Matthew 4:1~11)
The main theme for this morning is, ‘Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of living God.’ This is what the Bible reveals to us that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of living God, and whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. Because Jesus is the messiah who came to save us, now we have eternal life in God whom we have our faith in. Because Jesus is the Son of God, our sins are forgiven, and now we are called the people of God in the kingdom of God. But nowadays, people do not want to hear that, nor believe that. Rather, they ask Christians, “What’s that got to do with my life? What Jesus really can do for me now? They only see God as just a miracle maker, or someone who can turn impossible things into possible ones for them. So they come into a relationship with him for a while, and walk away because nothing has been done according to their expectations. Actually the same thing happened in the Bible. Israel people waited for their Messiah who would come to rescue them, free them, and give eternity. But when their long-expected Jesus Christ came, people rejected him, just a few believed and accepted him as the Messiah and the Son of living God. Our God is the creator, redeemer and sustainer of our life and future. And He does make things happen for his glory and his people. In order for his people to believe, God had to make sure that Jesus was the one they waited for. So through Matthew, God revealed the truth that Jesus was the one he sent to save his people. Matthew 3:17, after Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist, God says, “a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I live; with him I am well pleased.’ And again, in Matthew 17, the transfiguration of Jesus, God says, ‘… a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Salvation does not mean we get what we want, Salvation does not mean we are free to do whatever we like to do. But Salvation means life in God, Salvation means God’s punishment is fully paid, and Salvation means forgiveness of our sins through life, death and resurrection of Jesus. So we have freedom to walk away from our ways and choose God’s way for his glory. It is all about our perspective of how to perceive our life in this world and our attitude to live as the people of God in this world. As long as we have faith in God and believe that Jesus is our Messiah and the Son of living God, we must rely on God’s perspective and build up our faithful attitude to live as God’s people in this world. Now let’s look at today’ reading. Jesus was led by the spirit into wilderness to be tested by the devil. He was led by the spirit of God, so there is a purpose of God, which is to prove Jesus is the Son of God. So when the devil asked him, “if you are the Son of God, turn this stone into bread.” The devil knew Jesus was hungry after 40 days and nights of fasting. And the way he replied was, “IT IS WRITTEN: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of GOD.” He said it because he is the Son of God. Second temptation is the same, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. Doesn’t God promise to protect you?” Again Jesus said, ““IT IS ALSO WRITTEN: ‘Do not put the Lord your GOD to the test.’” And the third temptation, Jesus said again, “FOR IT IS WRITTEN: ‘Worship the Lord your GOD, and serve him only.” The devil did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. So Jesus re-cited the Bible three times to make his point, which is “I am the Messiah that the Bible proclaimed about. I am the Son of God as you called me, so no one or nothing can separate us because we are one.” (dk)

(Joshua 4:1~9)
- All of us has more than one ‘very positive, great, encouraging and God performed’ memories in our life and faith journey. Obviously, for me the internship is one of them, which makes me keep going for the glory of God.
- Of course, I’ve had very negative and discouraging experiences in my ministry. But these kinds of great memories or rather landmarks in faith have become driving forces for us to move on. As Romans 12:21 says, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
- This is what I see as I read today’s reading Joshua 4; God led His people out of Egypt, throughout the wilderness God protected and provided. And now God is leading them into the land he promised. This is not what Moses did or could do, this is not what Joshua did or could do, but Only God did and could do for His people.
- So in today’s reading verse 7, God said, “tell your children that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before ‘THE ARK of the covenant of the LORD,’.”
- This is important. The river was cut off NOT when the priest waded in the water, but when ‘The ARK’ arrived, the river was cut off.

This is what we must not fail to tell the next generations. “If God is for you, who can ever be against you! (Rom 8:31)” Jehovah Jireh (God provides), Jehovah Nissi (God wins), Jehovah Lafa (God heals)

Two weeks ago, I received a very unpleasant, or rather sad call. He said, “I heard you’d been doing prayer meetings in one of blue care centres. We cannot have prayer meeting in public where people can see and hear. You may have it in chapel on the second floor, otherwise, those residents will keep complaining about your prayer group.”
- I did not react, but I offered him, “Morningside UC and I are praying for your ministry and people.”
- Blue Care, Uniting Care, Uniting Church. We all are the body of Christ, worshipping, witnessing, and serving God and his people, aren’t we all?
- But somehow and somewhere, we got confused with whom we are serving.
- Do you know the first question of the shorter catechism? “What is the chief end of man? “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.”
- Indeed, we are here to glorify God, to please God, and to enjoy the everlasting fellowship with Him through Jesus Christ.
- Galatians 1:10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
- 1 Thessalonians 2:4b We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.
- However, somehow, somewhere, we started creating ‘confusions.’ What is ‘essential, a must’ has become secondary, and what was the secondary has become the top priority.
- From time to time, I listen to a southern Baptist preacher, Effreim Smith from Chicago. In one of his messages, he said this, kind of eye opening and ear clearing, “The world teaches you how to prioritise your life including your faith by setting up what is the first priority, what is the next, and what is the next. But in this relationship with God, there is no first priority, no second priority because God is our only priority. Amen! He is the alpha and Omega, he is the beginning and the End, he is everlasting, He is who he is.
- Let’s go back to today’s reading, these 12 stones remind people of the ark of God that made the river cut off. So verse 7 continues to say, “These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” But people failed to remember not only the meaning of the 12 stones, but the power and strength of our faith in God. Along the way, we got lost, and not even realise it.
- In Matthew 17, when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John, they saw how glorious Jesus became and heard the voice saying, ”This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
- They were the ones who were with Jesus Christ, but still failed to listen and follow him until. Until his body was broken, his blood was shed, and shared with us in remembrance of him.

The essence and the core in our faith is God. He is the way, the truth and the life. So in order for us to continue to be a multi-generational church for the glory of God, we must pass the way, the truth and the life onto our next generations in remembrance of him.

As I conclude today’s message, I would like to sing a hymn together. This is my grandmother’s favourite, and soon became my favourite. Every time I sing this hymn, I remember Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life. And I pray my children remember Jesus in the same way. AMEN.

Luke 5:1~11, Matthew 28:19~20, Acts 1:8
Morningside Uniting Church is 1)biblical, 2)evangelical, 3)missional, and 4)multi-generational. Today let us identify ourselves as missional. An American preacher Bill Hybels keeps saying, “Local church is the hope of the world.” I know why he says it because “We are the God-sent people in this world.” Indeed, we are the people who have been sent by God into the world as witnesses and ambassadors of the Good News, and as custodians of God’s creation, so we must be aware that we have ownership over everything we do for the glory of God because we belong to the body of Christ. Peter, James, John, and other fishermen had many years of knowledge and experience. They knew how to catch fish. But on this particular day, they did not catch any fish at all, but they met Jesus for the first time. Jesus was teaching people from Peter’s boat, so obviously Peter heard what Jesus told people about: God, heaven, salvation, healing, and more teachings. After listening to his teaching, when Jesus directed Peter and others fishermen on the same boat to throw the nets into deep water, Peter said “We worked all night long and caught nothing, But because you says so, we will throw our nets into deep water again.” And the fruits of their obedience to Jesus was overflowing and abundant. So as a missional church let’s say, “But because you say so” we will go for your glory and to your people. A friend of mine always emphasises on two commitments all Christians must make, 1)Intimacy with Christ, and 2) Total submission to Christ! Intimacy with Christ means we read the Bible because we truly and faithfully believe and accept it as the living word of God for us. According to Luke, Peter listened to Jesus teachings on the same boat, after that he called Jesus, ‘Master.’ My point is this the more and the longer time we spend with Jesus, which means reading the Bible and praying to God, The more and the longer we do that, the closer intimacy we have with Jesus as well. Look at Peter, he called this stranger ‘Master.’ This means he truly believed what Jesus taught on the day. So he said, “But because you say so.” Total submission to Christ! (dk)
