Many people don’t live in the moment. Their body may be here, but their mind is somewhere stuck in the past or fixed on the future. In some cases, we even create alternate realities in our heads that keep us from being in the “Now.”
Suffering can destroy you or it can develop you. It can overthrow your faith or establish it, especially during long seasons or sudden tragedies.
How could a universe exist where God loves all His creation and yet allows His creation to suffer unimaginable pain?

Is it wrong to pray down curses on evil people?
Imprecation prayers are prayers designed to release God’s people, from rage, and bitterness and the feeling of powerlessness in the face of evil.
We all bear burdens no one knows about.
“The hardest things are not those that the world knows of. Down in your secret soul unseen and unknown by any but Jesus, there is a little trial that you would not dare to mention, that is harder for you to bear than martyrdom.”[i] Streams in the Desert

It’s easy to serve God and when conditions are favorable, the sun is bright, blessings are flowing, and we have momentum. But what do you do when you feel that God has crossed you or abandoned you?

As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools.
The psalmist speaks of the worshiper turning a dry hopeless place into a place of flourishing in life.
To some, time is a curse that eventually overtakes us, to others it is a great gift that can only be appreciated with an eye on eternity.

Thanksgiving is a time where we are conscious about gratefulness. Gratefulness however does not come naturally and sometimes we must contend for it in the face of difficulty.

Could there be anything more hopeless than a stump?
If you wanted the perfect picture to describe a state of hopelessness a stump would be your ticket. Encyclopedias could clearly illustrate their definition of hopelessness with a snapshot of an old gnarly stub.
A stump signals that the days of fruitfulness and life are over, that children could no longer play on its long-lost branches, and that its usefulness is now reduced to just something that is in the way.
We all struggle with issues of the head and heart. The problem is that faith is a thing of the heart.
Theologian J. Gerald Janzen talked about three ways that we can understand something. The hand, the head, and the heart.
This reminds me of the confrontation God had with Job the day Job got a wakeup call and what came of it.

Deception is an ugly reality in a broken world. It seems that the minute God reveals a truth, there is a lie to challenge it. That lie never confronts us with a bold face, obvious and simple but it comes as a wolf in sheep’s clothing, an angel of light ready to give us a subtle lie covered over in a thin truth.
Chinese military genius Sun Tzu once said that, “All Warfare Is Based on Deception.”
Satan’s means have never changed; deception has always been his preferred weapon against God’s creation. He never comes at you directly but sideways, with truths wrapped in lies, with part story-part fantasy.
What does Christianity looks like when you have the wrong idea of God?
Dr. Joseph Parker once said:
“If we do not get back to visions, peeps into heaven, consciousness of the higher glory and the larger life, we shall lose our religion; our altar will become a bare stone, unblessed by visitant from Heaven.” Here is the world’s need today—men who have seen their Lord.
W. Tozer once said, “Our worship rises or falls dependent upon the idea that the church has of God.” How we view a thing makes all the difference. If our view is right then we will tend to respond in wholesome ways. If our view is wrong than we will tend to respond in unwholesome ways.
There is something about wilderness experiences that changes the value of things, weans us from carnal dalliances, and deepens our spiritual well.

We were created in God’s image we reflect him in the world. When we begin worshiping something other than God, we reflect less of his image and become more like what we adore.
The obsession with family trees and generational roots in modern culture is a Testament to the reality that people care about where they came from.
Since medieval times it was said that “blood is thicker than water.” It means that family ties are thick as blood and all other relationships are thin like water in comparison.

Could anything be more vital to our existence than oxygen? Just as without oxygen there can be no life, without Hope there can be no life.
Sometimes, the things we hold as true were born not from the challenges we grew from but only from the pain we experienced.
Does your peace wait for things to get better or do you have the kind of peace that does not depend on any particular situation? The latter kind of peace is the one that only Christ can give.
