How can we expect a world infected by sin to provide your best life now? How can we ignore scriptures like “man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward” (Job 5:7) and “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:12) and “count it all joy when you fall into various trials” (James 1:2), and tell people their best life is here and now? How can we count as meaningless the suffering of the early Christian martyrs who were hanged, burned at the stake, beheaded, and boiled in oil for their faith and their faithfulness to Christ, gladly suffering for the Savior they adored? Did they die these excruciating deaths because no one ever told them they could have experienced their best lives if only they pursued wealth and a healthy self-image, as Joel Osteen claims? The Lord never promised health, wealth, or success in this life. We can’t expect the promises He makes for heaven to be fulfilled now, and the Church dare not promise people the impossible illusion of their best life now. Such a promise encourages people to decide for themselves what will constitute their best lives and then reject Jesus when He doesn’t deliver.
The “your best life now” philosophy is nothing more than the old “power of positive thinking” lie repackaged to scratch the itching ears of the current generation. If we know Jesus Christ as our Savior, our best lives await us in heaven where we will spend eternity in joy and bliss, enjoying a life that is better than the “best” we could have now.

The doctrine of self-love or self-esteem is not compatible with Jesus’ teaching on self-denial. It is sad that many advocates of self-esteem cite the command to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:39) as biblical justification for self-love. Some even go so far as to say that we cannot love God or others until we first learn to love ourselves! But Jesus said that there were only two great commands—love God and love your neighbor. He assumed that we all love ourselves quite well. In fact, if we would just love others as much as we do love ourselves, we would fulfill the law of love. John Calvin saw this clearly. He wrote,
Hence it is very clear that we keep the commandments not by loving ourselves but by loving God and neighbor; that he lives the best and holiest life who lives and strives for himself as little as he can, and that no one lives in a worse or more evil manner than he who lives and strives for himself alone, and thinks about and seeks only his own advantage. (The Institutes of the Christian Religion [Westminster], 2:8:54).
Maybe you’re thinking, “Self-denial sounds so negative!” Let me remind you, I didn’t come up with this. Jesus did! In the short term, self-denial is difficult and not very pleasant. But there are eternal blessings in store when you follow Jesus on the path of the cross. He explains in verse 24: “For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.” When you die to self and follow Jesus, He graciously gives you the ultimate in fulfillment as the by-product—the joy of eternal life and of being affirmed by Jesus before the Father when He comes in glory (9:26)!

Final Part of This Series:We can do to have a closer relationship with God is to speak to Him through prayer. If reading the Bible is listening to God speak to us, speaking to God is accomplished through prayer. The Gospels often record Jesus secreting Himself away to commune with His Father in prayer. Prayer is much more than simply a way to ask God for things we need or want. Consider the model prayer that Jesus gives His disciples in Matthew 6:9-13. ). Another thing we can do to revive our prayer lives is to read the Psalms. Many of the Psalms are heartfelt cries to God for various things. In the Psalms we see adoration, contrition, thanksgiving and supplication modeled in a divinely inspired way we can use as a blueprint family.
Developing a closer relationship with God is an admirable goal and reflects a heart that is truly reborn, for only those who are in Christ desire a closer relationship with God. We must also understand that in this life we will never be as close to God as we ought to be or desire to be. The reason for this is lingering sin in our lives. This is not a deficiency on God’s part, but on ours; our sin remains a barrier to the full and complete fellowship with God which will be realized once we’re in glory.
Developing a closer relationship with God is an admirable goal and reflects a heart that is truly reborn, for only those who are in Christ desire a closer relationship with God. We must also understand that in this life we will never be as close to God as we ought to be or desire to be. The reason for this is lingering sin in our lives. I Cannot Start this series without considering the formidable task of trusting God with relationships in the absence of possibilities. When there is a promising online match, a friendship that appears to be blossoming into more or an interesting fellow you met at that last wedding you attended, trust is a bit easier. There is something tangible to rest your hope in (even if it never goes anywhere).

She befriended homeless people wherever she went and volunteered at a homeless shelter while in college. Marissa aspired to help homeless people on a bigger scale and began the non profit, Heart of Martha Effort (H.O.M.E.) in July 2020. My life has had its share of highs and lows! During my childhood I was a victim of molestation, sexual assault and rape; which left me with many mental scars of confusion, frustration and hurt. After many years of wondering in the wilderness of self-pity and self-destruction God got my attention by giving me the strength to share my story. As I began to speak publicly about my childhood experiences from the voice of a woman, I am the villain not the victim. Regardless, of the outrage of protest I will continue to speak up and out loud clearly! In spite of the bumps and bruises along my journey God has blessed me to have the experience of what it means to be a wife (now divorced), rewarded me to be the mother of two sons and super proud GiGi of three grandchildren.For "EVERY MOUNTAIN and SHADOW/S He has brought me over and carried me through I have made it my commitment to be the mouthpiece of advocacy against all forms of abuse. Apostle Tonya is the firstborn of the late Mr. Ronald and Mother Bertha Mae Vaughn. Both of her parents are with the Lord in their Heavenly Home. It was her beloved mother’s unwavering faith, deep love and reverence for Jesus which captivated Tonya and ignited her desire to be close to the Lord at a very young age. Her mother was a virtuous, holy and anointed woman of God. Mother Vaughn, full of God’s wisdom would spend hours reading the Word, worshiping and communing with Jesus. As she battled with infirmities in her body, she never complained -- she suffered with grace, amazing joy and the love of the Lord. It was by watching her mother’s lifetime devotion to the Lord that paved the way for Tonya to fall in love and follow Jesus.

Perhaps you're saying to yourself: "This is an individual sin, how can you say this relates to the church as a whole?"
The answer is: Because this spiritual sickness has reached such vast proportions that it long ago enveloped the leadership of many modern churches. And when leadership is infected, it indeed becomes a corporate problem.
Why? Because leadership complacency trickles down to practically every corporate function of a congregation. In that sense, complacency HAS become a congregational "digression" away from the ancient paths.

Lo Debar in Scripture is in Amos 6:13. Amos, a prophet from Judah, confronts the sin and pride of the northern kingdom of Israel. He condemns their boasting in their conquest of Lo Debar, which would have been in the territory of Judah. The fact that Israel would conquer a city of Judah was certainly worth addressing in its own right, as Israel and Judah should have been brothers living in peace. Henry A. Nash is the Founder and Author of the book “Integrity Does Matter™.” Born and raised in the small East Texas town of San Augustine, Texas, he comes from a family of ten siblings. Being the first of his family to graduate from San Augustine High School, he was also nominated as the “Most Talented Student” by his peers. Upon his graduation, he was also the first in his family to attend college at Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas, where he received a Certificate Of Completion in Building Construction and Bricklaying. Pastor Byron Sago, was raised in Natchez, Mississippi. He graduated from Natchez High School in 1993. Pastor Sago enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1997 where he served for over 23 years. Throughout his military career, he served at numerous stateside army units as well as in, Stuttgart and Bamberg Germany. Pastor Sago retired as a First Sergeant in July of 2018. Pastor Sago began his true walk with God in 2010. He was ordained as a Deacon at Bethesda Fellowship Ministries in Copperas Cove, Texas. He accepted the call to preach in 2012 after a redeployment from Afghanistan and was licensed in July 2014 at Bethesda Fellowship Ministries under the leadership of Bishop (Dr.) R. Ray Gatewood. He received a diploma in Pastoral Ministry in April of 2020 from Bethesda Theological Institute and Seminary in Copperas Cove, Texas.
Pastor Sago has served as an Adjutant to the Presiding Bishop of Concord Fellowship of Churches International; Bishop R. Ray Gatewood. Youth Minister at New Beginnings Revival Center in Waynesville Missouri as well as Bethesda Fellowship Ministries. In these positions he mentored youth of all ages. He also served as the Nursing Home Ministry Leader for New Beginnings Revival Center in Waynesville Missouri.
On November 8th, 2019 Pastor Sago took a leap of faith and established Light Of Hope Fellowship Ministries, an interdenominational church in Harker Heights, Texas. Light Of Hope Fellowship Ministries was founded on Discipleship and to “Take God’s Word To The Streets”.
