Tony Veitch has left the building. After five years hosting the weekend afternoon slot on Newstalk ZB, Veitchy has signed off for the final time. As his show wrapped up, Veitch said it "feels weird" about leaving. After a highlights package of his time with the station, he finished with a call for improving the radio sports industry, describing sports as a "relief and a release". He also thanked his fans for all their support over the years, including over the last few days since his departure was announced. "This show was about you guys and life and what life brings." Controversy for Team New Zealand this week, after the team decided not to put Peter Burling forward for Halberg nominations. Yachting NZ chief executive David Abercrombie told Elliot Smith the news should never have been made public and expressed his organisation's disappointment as they thought Burling was deserving of an accolade and it would have been great for the sport in New Zealand. Mayor of Auckland Phil Goff says there's no way Auckland ratepayers will be forking out a hosting fee to Emirates Team New Zealand for the America's Cup. He joined Veitch on Sport today to talk about how plans for the Cup were progressing. Mr Goff said his responsibility as mayor of Auckland was to not spend money that he didn't have. He said Aucklanders are already making a big contribution through infrastructure funding. "If Auckland's already forking out literally hundreds of millions of dollars, that's a pretty fair contribution to make." "It's not a case of being tight, I just don't have the money to spend." Mr Goff said the private sector will hopefully contribute to keep the event in Auckland. He also says the venue has been narrowed down to two sites, and says the Wynyard Basin is likely. Sir Ben Ainslie of BAR says it's still his firm intention to enter the America's Cup, but there's still a few areas to clean up with Team New Zealand. Sir Ben also says his team wants to see the Cup stay in New Zealand. Listen to the full interview with Veitch on Sport above.

Taumalolo switched allegiances to Tonga in the days leading up to the World Cup squad announcement, with three others following suit. Blair believes Taumalolo should've owned up to his decision to switch to Tonga for the Rugby League World Cup and called coach David Kidwell. "Own up to what you want to do, I don't think texting someone the way to go about it and texting the coach or Shane is not the way to go about things. I think if you were man enough you'd come up make the phonecall and tell them." He's also filthy with Warriors centre David Fusitua who is understood to have committed to Kidwell four hours before the announcement, then withdrawing. "He's made a bit of a mockery of the game when it comes to making those decisions, to call up half an hour or an hour before the team is announced , when they're in the team, is quite heartbreaking." Blair says they feel let down and it would take a lot of rebuilding to trust those players again in a Kiwis jumper, should they make themselves available in the future. Some significant relationship rebuilding will be required if Jason Taumalolo wants to play for the Kiwis again in the future. "When you play a game of football you rely a lot on trust and the brotherhood and trust, and at this stage it feels like we've been let down."
As he did so well in his playing days, former All Blacks captain Sean Fitzpatrick is defending his compatriot. Kiwi coach Warren Gatland has come under fire following comments by Irish flanker Sean O'Brien that the British and Irish Lions over-trained ahead of their first test against the All Blacks. England number eight Billy Vunipola has also questioned whether Gatland was even the right man for the job, despite not touring. Fitzpatrick told Veitch Sport the criticism is unnecessary. "It's a little bit disappointing, it's a bit of a dampener on what a fantastic tour that was and then we have other people chipping in who weren't even on the tour, so I'm a little bit disappointed." Wayne Smith's leaving the door open for a return to New Zealand Rugby's payroll. Tonight's Rugby Championship test against South Africa in Albany is Smith's final test at home before retirement from the All Blacks coaching staff. The 209-test veteran across playing and coaching plans to take most of next year off for family and travel, but has already discussed a potential new role with NZR. "The job that I love at the moment is going to Super Rugby franchises because I've coached most of the coaches and I love that relationship so potentially there's an opportunity for me there in the future.'
