Jesus Himself said “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” It's very easy to let our first impressions or cultural judgements keep us from loving and serving the lost. The greatest commandments according to Jesus are these: Love The Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. We often think of the parable of The Prodigal Son and shame the elder brother, but aren't we the elder brother? What can we do differently than the brother in the story?

Jesus did not shy away from ministering to sinners. He did not come for the healthy, but the sick after all! Church services are a great place to get saved, but how often do non-believers walk into Sunday morning unprompted? Our ministry is not limited to the four walls of the church building, we can lead people to Jesus anytime and anywhere!

In the continuing series of digging deeper into the foundations of New Life City, Pastor Alan spends time this week pushing us to return to our first love by returning to the actions that surrounded us falling in love. As a husband seeks to rekindle relationship with his wife by returning to the all-consuming attention he first gave to her while dating, we return to when we first fell in love with Christ through turning our minds and actions towards an all-encompassing immersion within him.
One foundation of New Life City is radical forgiveness and looking out at others and telling them, “You don’t owe me anything.” We forgive and seek forgiveness from all, not placing anything at others feet except for love and grace. As a result, communion and union, which is community and unity, is what we seek to live by through loving one another as we grow.
Everyone is created with a longing for Christ that has been put into us from the very beginning. Today, we have tried to satisfy that longing with a buffet of “Christianisms” that complicate the simplicity of the gospel by trying to appease greater society. We are not called to reflect culture; we are called to reflect God on this earth. The former cultivates convince, the latter obedience.
Brian Starley spoke on Saturday about how we often disqualify ourselves from what God has called us to out of fear, complaining, or stubbornness. Brian shared several stories of God moving through him in times he didn’t want to do anything but ignore the call of God. However, with each story, we hear how Brian stepped into God’s will despite feeling otherwise and we hear how God showed up each and every time.
Our identity lies within the fact that Christ indwells each one of us who lay claim to him. We have repented, been changed, and set free into a new life in Christ through the marriage of heaven and earth that pours the Spirit of God into and onto us. Therefore, we can be sure that God is who he says he is and we are who God says we are.
Following up our Vacation Bible School on the Legends of the Hidden Temple where our children learned that they are the temple of God, Pastor Alan spoke further about the temple that we are and laid the biblical foundation for us being the temple of God as image bearers.
We are recovering our first love by serving a God who wants to know us. We love because He first loved us and, as a result, God wants us to know him and love Him in the same way. How do we get to know God? The same way we get to know anyone. By spending time with Him and getting to know him in the power of His resurrection and walking alongside Him in His suffering.
Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians spoke of the church born and thriving. Pastor Alan walked us through the letter letting Paul speak to us today about a myriad of topics relating to the healthy function of the church body and showed us how to live according to these words today.
Jacob wrestled with the Lord and prevailed when Jacob was in the midst of strife and wandering. He didn’t prevail over the Lord because of strength but rather prevailed through contention in relationship with God. The Lord left Jacob with a limp as a result, but the relationship between Jacob and God was strengthened. We must likewise learn to contend with God through relationship as we also contend with and for others through relationship.
As Christians, we are imbued with Christ’s joy and Christ’s mission to spread that joy throughout the world. Our testimonies bring joy. Our presence in the world brings joy. Our unity brings joy. So we must work towards being one with the Father and one with each other then we bring others into our unity through speaking God’s words over their lives.
Pentecost Sunday brought a shift in the lives and culture of Christ's followers in Israel which went on to change the world. Today, we need another shift in our lives and our culture to see a transformation towards Christ and Christ's values. How does that transformation come about? Through you.
Kim Maas joined us for one night to share a prophetic message on Gideon and revival. We are led to repent for the cultural influences in our American Christianity and to refocus ourselves on Christ and Christ alone to see him move throughout our nations.
Pastor Alan continued this teaching on the Great Commission focusing on the power and authority we have as children of God to proclaim the forgiveness of sins to a world that struggles to see God in everyday life.
As the book of Matthew ends, Jesus answers the 'Now what?' that the disciples were thinking at the prospect of Christ leaving. The answer is the Great Commission. We must go out as disciples because we are the answer to the 'Now what?' Christ gave us the authority and the command to go out and preach the gospel to all. Be Jesus wherever you are.
"The cost of chasing your promise is not going to be greater than your reward." Pastor Colleen pushed us this weekend to step out into our dreams and promises that God has given us, to not be afraid of failing or how large those dreams are, but to rest in Christ that he will see us through it all like he did with Joseph. Not everything in Joseph's life was easy (slavery, attempts on his life, false accusations, imprisonment), but Joseph focused on his God-given dream knowing that God would see him through it all. We all know the end of that story and how God vaulted Joseph into the unimaginable through simple obedience. What dreams are you chasing today?

The ‘petrichor’ is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. This smell can be detected miles away from the storm, letting us know rain is coming. There’s a storm blowing in our culture today founded in division, but the rain will come, we can sow seeds, and Christ will raise new life.
We serve a king named Jesus who was raised from the dead in bodily form. We as Christians often talk about leaving this body and earth for heaven, but the beauty of resurrection is that it’s ‘other worldly’ and ’this worldly’ at the same time. The testimony of scripture is a resurrection that portends new creation: a new creation that began on resurrection day.
All over the world, the church celebrates Holy Saturday with a zealous focus on the Third Day resurrection. Christ’s victory over the principalities and powers began on Good Friday and worked through Saturday to Resurrection Sunday. Our Lord is going to rescue us from the dead.
Jesus died on Friday and Death died on Sunday. No one took Jesus’ life. Rather, Jesus willingly gave up his life to the dismay of the disciples who understood Christ as the sovereign King. The darkness overwhelmed them, but only for a moment before it lifted at the work of Christ’s pronouncement, “It is finished.”
Many Christians focus too much on sin and not enough on redemption, leaving a constant veil between God and us that was not put there by the Father. Nic Billman and family joined us for the weekend services and brought testimonies of the freedom of Christ they're seeing abounding among many in Brazil and left us thinking about our own freedom in Christ here in the States.
Living in the New Covenant means we have a connection with Jesus, and the world is desperate to see us walking in connection. When we are in our worst pain we testify the most boldly because our faithful God is our inheritance. Sometimes the darkness makes us want to turn away out of fear. However, Jesus is leading us through the darkness.

The heartbeat of heaven, the very rhythm of the kingdom, is compassion. It's this call that drives us as followers of Christ, who himself worked in compassion as he led. How can we follow Christ in leading through compassion? By seeing others the way God sees them: as human beings worthy of the love of Christ.
A woman broke an Alabaster flask worth a year’s wages and poured it onto Jesus’ head, effectively giving up a year of her life to honor Jesus. This woman was wasting herself on him and announcing prophetically that Jesus was going to waste himself on all of human kind. When we take communion together, we are proclaiming Jesus and what he did for us when he poured out his blood for the forgiveness of sins. As a result, we are in the new covenant; we are a part of the house of forgiveness.
"This is a call to be what God has called us to be. This is saying, 'We're the responsible ones.' And you say, 'It's too much for me. I don't know how to do it.' Then feed somebody who's hungry. You do empty the ocean with a teaspoon."
We’re getting married. Jesus as the bridegroom calls us to live in a state of readiness in anticipation of his return. As a family and the bride of Christ, we are entering into 40 days of fasting to lean into intimacy with God in the lead up to Resurrection Sunday.
A lot of fear and anxiety has taken root in the church over "End Time" pronouncements of being "left behind". This warning has been used to describe a coming rapture of the saints where the one taken will be raptured up to heaven to be with Jesus. However, the Biblical context describes that the one taken is to be judged while the remnant were to be Kingdom occupiers. What we think was the end of the world was the end of Old Covenant Israel and the New Beginning was the marriage of heaven and earth, a new life with Christ as the head. Will you be left behind? The answer will give you hope.
Matthew 24 has been used to fashion numerous 'end times' declarations by those who force modern events into scripture. However, much of Matthew 24 was Jesus' words directly to the disciples of what was going to happen when He left them. The end came but a new age began.
In Matthew 24, Jesus told his disciples what was going to happen when he left. Many people think this passage was written directly to us today, but Jesus was talking directly to his disciples. How do we deal with this passage if it isn't speaking about the 'end times' for us today but the time to come for the disciples? What is the sign of Jesus' coming, the 'parousia'?
The challenge of church hypocrisy is prevalent today because we as the church have, like the Pharisees, focused on the sins and forgot about the people. Jesus tells us his heart for us is that we would be a treasure he releases on all the world; a priesthood for the whole world. If we represent Jesus and his great abundant love for people, then they have a chance at seeing Jesus for who he really is.
We are the image-bearers of God. As Christians, everything we have belongs to God, including our lives. We must say, "This is yours, Lord. What are we gonna do?" We serve the one who is despised and rejected of men, and yet he forgave us. We serve the one who had no beauty that we should behold him, but our eyes are riveted and we cannot turn away. Run to him. And he becomes yours, yours, yours. And then he says, ‘Now, run to them.’
In the Kingdom, some are in and some are out; The Kingdom is inclusive and exclusive. Many are called but few are chosen. How do we understand the difference? We are in a big tent revival and Jesus is still trying to get a bigger tent. Jesus has called us and is calling others into his tent, into his family. The chosen are the ones who listen.
We need Jesus to breathe on us and make us come alive. Life in Jesus brings more than we could ever have expected, and we are seeking more. However, sometimes going into more leads us into those who seek to devour us. Regardless, we must share the gospel of Christ to all, even those who annoy or offend us.

Christmas is about receiving and giving. Christ gave himself up so that we may receive and then give of ourselves to others. We are encouraged to not just receive but to give.
We are called to light in the darkness even in the midst of our own storms. No matter the trials and tribulations that happen to us, we can rely on Jesus to support us and lead us and create us to be lights in the darkness.

We’re in a time where many are rejecting the Christian faith and will react strongly and negatively against anyone who attends church or has any ties to Evangelicalism. In response, many Christians swing the pendulum far to the right and try to engage in ‘dominion’ ideology. Christ sits on neither side and instead calls us to his kingdom, and in Christ’s kingdom the first shall be last.
In our lives, there are plenty of things that draw us away from the simplicity of who Jesus is. We must remember to walk in the simplicity of the gospel and not let the ties and bonds of the enemy divert us, especially during the Christmas season.
There is a spirit of intimidation in the culture today that seeks to stifle Christians and suppress the name of Christ. We’re to proclaim the name of Jesus everywhere we go despite any mockery or anger that may arise. How can we be bold in the face of intimidation?

The gospel is full of radical grace, but we’ve managed to reduce the world’s understanding of Christ to be primarily about judgement. We can forgive because of all that we’ve received. No one could possibly have done more against us to exhaust what we have received from God.

In our first session of the Voice of the Shepherds, Dr. Kim Maas Ministries gave us a strong message of stepping into our promises from God and to stop giving in to negativity to see our breakthrough.
The longer you look at a wall, the bigger it gets. We stare at the problem and not the solution. And the problem is that we are looking at the problem and not looking at the provision. We're looking at the problem and not looking at the Provider.
The question came from the disciples, “Who’s the greatest?” Jesus drew a child to him and said, “Unless you become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Becoming like children won’t happen instantly, but the entrance to the Kingdom is childlikeness.
Jesus said, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” And when Peter said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.” When you are a son, you don’t pay for dinner at the house. Everything in the Kingdom is understood once you move from being God’s servant to being his son.
The strategy of the enemy is to confuse you so he can take over and command you. Many are confused because they are not familiar with the word of God. When we read the Bible, we know that God is with us. When we know what is written, we know our identity. We know where we are coming from and where we are going.
There’s nothing that the enemy is more determined to destroy through any means possible than the church. Today we hear most people speaking evil about the church. However, one cannot truly love Jesus if you do not love the church.
We’re all called to be in full-time ministry wherever we go, and that full-time ministry starts in the place of worship and praise. It has to start with the ministry first to the heart of God. If we’re not ministering first to the heart of God, we cannot honestly be ministering fully to the heart of man.
The revelation of Jesus helps us get through anything. We just need to see him in the midst of our struggles. Our obedience, and often physical obedience, is the outworking of our revelation of Jesus. What are you struggling with today? Let the revelation of Jesus help you obey his will.

The Christian life is pretty simple: It's receiving and giving. Yet, receiving can be one of the hardest things to do.
