GenX Stories is a podcast about how the so-called “Lost Generation” found itself at midlife. Join hosts Eve, Lori, Chris & Courtney every other Wednesday for a fun and frank discussion about what made us and what’s next. We all have a GenX story. What’s yours?

The crew is all here for a completely unscripted, barely coherent, deeply sincere Season 7 wrap-up. And yes, we're getting drunk. (Well, maybe not all of us.) Expect the usual but even better: meandering tangents, unsolicited hot takes, deeply felt assertions on stuffed animals and confessions about drunk scooting. Oh, and potential equipment damage. Pour yourself something tasty & press play. You know how this goes.

Creativity peaking in your 50s more than your 20s? Yup, that tracks. This episode digs into what that actually looks like and it's got nothing to do with taking a pottery class or learning how to square dance. (again.).
You know that we rarely do guests on the show BUT when a fellow Gen Xer (Laura LeBleu) channels her creativity into a gorgeous, 90+ page, three-times-a-year print magazine - for us, by us - we make an exception. While we're a little divided on its controversial name - Geezer - we're totally sure of this. Creativity in every form is a way to "kick ass in our second half". Tune in today. Or not. Whatever.
PS - we even have a discount code for YOU! GXS15 gets you 15% off a Geezer subscription here: https://www.geezermagazine.com/subscribe

Congratulations, you've found the one podcast episode that finally settles whether extraterrestrial life exists. Spoiler: we don't know either.
Thanks to Lori, we're talking aliens this week - the pop culture kind, the Cold War paranoia kind, and the-cops-told-Eve's-mom-in '58-it-was-a-weather-balloon-but-it-was-definitely-not kind. From Close Encounters to Alien to ET to Project Hail Mary to things on the moon in Roman times, we have ALOT of thoughts. New episode. Stuff to hear. You know what to do.

Ever wondered what happens when an entire cruise ship full of Gen Xers decide to relive the greatest decade? Wonder no more.
In this week's episode, we're taking you aboard the 80s Cruise - where the fanny packs are unironic, the hair is big, and the hits just keep on coming.
We're talking live concerts, old-school heartthrobs, neon everything, and a crowd that still knows every single word to every single song. Whether you're a die-hard cruise lover or someone who swore they'd never set foot on a ship, this episode may have you reconsidering your stance fast.
Plus we have a kick ass guest sitting in with us who just came back from her second 80s cruise and is already signed up for her third (and planning for her 4th so she can offically “graduate”.)
So is the 80’s cruise totally rad or totally bogus? Listen now and you can be the judge.

Before Google Drive, Gen X processed artifacts the way we handled most everything else: by burying it and hoping future people would care. Yup, you guessed it - this episode is all about time capsules — a concept so ironically Gen X it practically comes with a side of Twinkie and the sense of impending doom. From bicentennial school projects we definitely forgot about, to NASA flinging a gold record into deep space like 'here, aliens, have some Chuck Berry,' to Nickelodeon's pop culture treasure trove sitting somewhere underground until 2042, get comfy. We have a ton to talk about. Tune in like, NOW.

From Lorde going full existential on Tears for Fears to Johnny Cash making Nine Inch Nails cry to Luke Combs taking us for a ride, it's time for some real GenX talk about cover songs.
This week we're going deep on interpretations of the music we grew up on. and duuude. We have opinions. Beacause what do you mean the songs we love were ALREADY covers?
Be a fly on the wall as the podcast gang debates what makes a cover work (or spectacularly fail), while trying to figure out if these songs are tributes, travesties or nostalgia with a new coat of paint.

Forget everything you thought you knew about "aging communties." The Gen X Stories crew is talking the next step in housing (and it's not your parents' retirement home.) From rethought 55+ communities with actual cocktail bars, co-housing, walkable villages, and yes, converted malls, it turns out our options are way more interesting than a room in a “facility”.
Lori, Courtney, Eve (and a guest she'worked with 30 years ago at AOL!) break down how Gen X is rewriting the rules of where we live next. Less isolation, more fun, and the best music. Obviously.

The Gen X Stories podcast crew gets brutally honest about our sex ed through school classes, books & movies, the AIDS crisis, Dr Ruth and parents who never had “The Talk” with us. You may recognize the funny (and often uncomfortable) experiences that followed, including feeling like needing a federal clearance to buy condoms. PLUS we get into being open about it all with our own kids now. It’s awkward. It’s cathartic. It might make you text your therapist. But hey — at least we can finally talk about it. (although maybe not with our moms...)

Old toys. Concert shirts. Boxes we haven’t opened in decades. In this episode, the podcast crew riffs on the chaos of the keepsakes we have (or wish we still did !) while trying to figure out what the topic is. It's funny. It's messy. And it's completely Gen X. If you've ever wanted your Walkman back, you gotta listen to this one.

In this episode of Gen X Stories, Eve and Courtney go full Stranger Things, unpacking the 80s DNA, the Stephen King–meets–E.T. references, and why this show hit Gen X right in the childhood. From killer needle drops to character arcs that grew up with us, they explore how the Duffer Brothers built a cross-generational phenomenon. BUT major spoilers ahead, so consider yourself warned.

Let’s go back to 1983, the year albums made us who we are. Thanks to a tip from our Facebook group, each GenX Stories host picked a favorite record from this legendary year and dove headfirst into its greatness. Nostalgia? Check. Hot takes? Double check. Accidental sing-alongs? We’ll neither confirm nor deny. The only thing left to do: press play and learn tidbits you never knew about the epic music that basically raised us.

Buckle up, kids (or don’t cuz we survived the ’80s without 'em). This week, the Gen X Stories crew cannonballs into a conversation sparked by a Facebook community member’s mysterious question (which we’re absolutely not telling you until you hit play, because marketing). Expect kick-ass personal stories ripped straight out of an ’80s movie montage and of course, the perfect soundtrack.

No plan. No outline. No research. Just three Gen X women armed with mystery topics, unfiltered hot takes, and a few moments we’ll probably deny later. With zero adult supervision (or, even Chris), we wandered straight into NSFW territory and didn’t bother turning back.
Seriously, be prepared for a little too much honesty that might’ve crossed the line a couple of times. (but in a good way).

The movies turning 40 in 2025 are aging like fine wine (or like us, depending on the lighting). Between the first Blockbuster store opening to the massive number of films appearing in theatres that year, let’s face it - 1985 ruined us for anything else. From The Breakfast Club to Back to the Future to Brazil to Cocoon the whole podcast crew is revisiting the classic 80's films we loved (and duh, still do). Some may call it a cinematic midlife crisis, but we call it awesome. So pass the popcorn (and the ibuprofen).

Instead of haunted houses, we had real-life fears - like Pop Rocks (with Coke), the Bermuda Triangle, and that one creepy white van parked down the street. This Halloween on the podcast, we’re unwrapping all the “tricks” that scared the hell out of us as Gen X kids, and realizing that while some fears fade, ours just got funnier. Plus we hear what freaked out our FB community growing up so trust us - you don’t wanna miss this one. 🎃👻

Ever wonder what happens when a Gen X guardian tries to keep up with their Gen Z ward? Spoiler: it’s hilarious. This episode features co-host Chris’s teenager - who, against all odds, gives us actual hope for her generation. Between vintage sarcasm, justifying lateness, and a shared love of ‘80s music (and epic eye-rolls), their relationship proves Gen X and Gen Z might have more in common than we’d ever admit. Bonus points if you can count how many times she pointedly says “Christopher!”

Remember applying to colleges without a single YouTube tutorial in sight, lofting your own dorm bed without approval, and taking "never doing this again" 8am classes? Yeah, we do too, and we’re not holding back.
If you (barely) survived your own college years in the ‘80s and ‘90s, this one’s for you. Hear us flail through questionable life choices (and the lifelong friends who got us through them) and how we're prepping our Gen Z spawn for their own college daze.

We’re baaaack! Season seven kicks off the only way we know how: with absolute chaos. And by chaos, we mean a hysterical round of Kiss, Marry, [something].
What starts as harmless hypotheticals spirals into hot takes on Furries, a very sexy talking car, and a total meltdown over the rules (because do they even exist?).
Buckle up for an episode full of the unhinged logic you’ve come to expect from us because honestly, the rules never mattered anyway.

Season 6 of the podcast is wrapping up—and in true Gen X fashion, we’re doing it our way: a little chaotic, a little nostalgic, and completely unfiltered. For this special season finale, all four of us (yes, miracles happen!) are finally able to record at the same tme, answering the questions you—our gloriously curious, sarcastic, and slightly unhinged Facebook group—sent in. From deep thoughts to weird rabbit holes, nothing’s off limits. It’s part AMA, part group therapy, and 100% real. You’re welcome. (or… maybe sorry?)

In this episode, we are diving into the world of GenX digital nomads—that’s right: people our age who are living and working from foreign countries, cool cities, or just wherever the Wi-Fi’s decent and the coffee’s strong.
So how do they decide where to go? How do they find a place to stay? And most importantly, how do they do all this without losing their minds (or all their chargers)?
We’ve got TWO guests with us today—yes, two—who just so happen to be married and currently living the digital nomad dream. (Bonus: Courtney and I have known them since college, so we’re legally allowed to ask inappropriate questions).
Tune in as we grill them about all things nomad-life, take notes for our own escape plan, and try not to sound too jealous.

We're wrapping up Season SIX (can you believe it?!), and we want to hear from YOU — yes, YOU!
For the last episode of this season, we’re flipping the script. Instead of an “Ask Me Anything,” it’s an Ask US Anything — and we mean anything (well, anything show-related… don’t go nutty, kids 😄).
Got questions about the four of us? Curious about how our generation sees the world? Burning topics you want us to cover in Season Seven (OMG, Season SEVEN!)?
Drop us your questions, hot takes, or wish list ideas. We’re all ears and are ready to spill the tea in the final episode of the season. It’s ALL up to YOU.

So why ARE Gen Xers suddenly obsessed with their roots? Just in time for Mother’s Day, we’re falling headfirst into the rabbit hole of family history (because apparently we're finally old enough to care.) We’re talking dusty records, surprise relatives, and the occasional “Wait… what?” moment, joined by a GenX guest who’s wayyyyy deep into the genealogy weeds too.
Listen in to a kick ass episode that’s part scavenger hunt, part identity crisis, and 100% curiosity (because after genealogy found the Golden State killer, what else can it uncover?)

Remember the episode earlier this season where each co-host picked a 1986 GenX album and we got way too into it? Yeah… we’re doing that again. This time, it’s 1987—and no, we’re not out of opinions yet (not even close). Each of us picked an album from that iconic year, we all (mostly) gave ‘em a listen, and then lovingly (and loudly) overanalyzed them.
Expect deep tracks, random trivia no one asked for, and at least one “omg I totally forgot about that song!” moment. Oh, and as usual, we’ll be dragging our former teenage selves and probably uncovering something weird about each other along the way.
So press play, roll up those acid-wash jeans, and let’s get back to 1987—because clearly, we think it rocked.

We totally planned this episode… by not planning at all. Instead, we each showed up with a handful of random topics, hit record, and hoped for the best. So if you've ever wondered what Gen X ad jingles, annoying earworms, pet psychics, and a questionable amount of DayQuil have in common—same. Does it all make sense? Probably not. Will it be fun to hear? Absolutely. Tune in for a totally unplanned, mildly chaotic ride—because let’s be real, we could all use a few unhinged laughs right now.

Look, we weren’t gonna talk about aging, but here we are—because apparently, it’s happening whether we like it or not. People say GenX is aging differently, but tell that to our knees, eyesight, and ability to function after 9 PM. From shifting looks to mystery aches to questioning if we can still pull off certain outfits, we’re covering it all. As always, expect brutal honesty, a little oversharing, and plenty of “WTF happened?!” moments. Buckle up, cuz midlife is wild.

After the shock of the 2024 election, the podcast crew has decided to take a little breather. We want to show up as our most authentic (and snarky) selves, so we’re putting the show on hold for now while we figure out next steps. To all our listeners—you have no idea how much you mean to us. This show has been a lifeline for the four of us through all the ups and downs of the past few years, and we just need some time to reset & regroup.
We hope to be back with new episodes in 2025, but if anything changes, we’ll let you know! In the meantime, come hang out in our Facebook group to stay in the loop and soak up some GenX vibes.

Last season, we took a deep dive into four iconic Gen X albums, each handpicked by one of us. We had so much fun, we’re bringing it back—this time with a twist!
Just like before, each of us has selected an album, we’ve all listened, and now we’re sharing our thoughts (because, let’s be honest, we always have plenty to say). But this time, we’re focusing on one specific year: 1986.
Don't worry—we’re still diving into the tracks, digging up behind-the-scenes trivia, and offering our usual commentary. But we’ll also explore who we were during that time and how it influenced our choices. Who knows? We might even discover something new about each other—and what being Gen X really means.

As we finally start Season 6 of the podcast, we’re talking all about the upcoming election. BUT hold your horses before you yell at us for getting political. We're NOT gonna go there. Who you vote for is up to YOU and we are very very aware that politics is the third rail these days. However, we ARE gonna talk about the what it looks like when GenXers (or those we claim as ours) run for National office in terms of attitude, the role of pop culture in the process and how the 2024 election cycle feels as a result. And even if you don't listen to this awesome episode, VOTE!

Yeah, we get the irony of discussing this here, but buckle up because today's episode is about Chris’s favorite topic - social media (#not). What channels are GenXers on? Are the people we follow doing our generation proud or making us cringe? Do we even belong there? And what the fuck is an influencer? Tune in for all the good, the bad, the ugly, and the “whatevers” about the socials. because GenX has entered the chat.

Today we're taking on something Courtney has been after us to talk about for years - ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). From chasing the elusive 'brain tingles' to pondering its potential as the ultimate sleep aid for a restless generation, we're exploring how (or if) GenX engages with ASMR. Between uses by AARP, Super Bowl ads and even sports teams, find out if there's a quiet(er) side to midlife or if ASMR just ain't for us.

Get ready for a crazy musical ride on our latest episode. The experiment: Each host picked an GenX album they love, made the rest of us listen to it, and then we talked about it. This is a totally new thing for us so it could have been amazeballs or a total disaster (hint, it wasn't a disaster). From dissecting tracks to digging into behind the scenes trivia to just sharing personal stories about why these albums meant so much to us, we're dishing it all out. And trust us - you will NOT want to miss it.

Whether you're looking to reminisce about your favorite coming-of-age movies (Breakfast Club anyone?) or are curious about the cultural touchstones that made us, step back in time with the GenX Stories crew. We even reveal some of our Facebook group’s favorite flicks. Let’s be demented and sad, but social together.

We hope you're hungry! It's time to talk GenX's favorite snacks & drinks. What we loved as kids, what kept us going as young adults (at least when we moved away from our parents!) and even what we're feeding GenZ these days. So spread some florescent Cheeze on a cracker, dig out that 40 year old Twinkie to nibble on and wash it all down with some Tang while you listen to this tasty walk down memory lane.

On today’s kick-ass encore episode, we have a real treat - Eve’s cousin Jenny talks all about her debut semi-autobiograhical YA novel. Set in 1991 during the AIDS crisis, and revealed through sketches, journal entries & the music we grew up on, hear how sharing her story became an authentic statement about GenX for a younger generation. When we originally recorded this in season 3, the book wsn’t published yet but now it’s OUT! You can buy it or catch her on her book tour! Also check out the Spotify playlist for the book.
Book blurb
Told through sketches, journal entries, and first-person narration, This Terrible True Thing is a semi-autobiographical story of high school senior with a gay dad. Applying to art school, and yearning to escape her conservative boarding school, her world at home is struck by AIDS. Balancing mourning and physics, crushes and paralyzing fear, Danielle must struggle to find the positive in the dark days of the early 90s. In this heartbreaking multimedia debut--filled with drawings, poems, and journal entries--author Jenny Laden draws on her own experience to create a story of grief and transcendence, perfect for fans of Francesca Zappia and Jennifer Niven.

Welcome to Season 5 of GenX Stories! While as kids we used to have a "break" over the summer, GenXers don't really get that anymore at midlife. So what the hell did we actually DO on our podcast hiatus? You'd actually be surprised what we've been up to. Between painting rocks, fuck-it travel and getting Covid, we were pretty busy. Plus our Facebook group shared all the cool shit they did. So listen, or don't. Whatever.

While season 4 of the podcast was shorter than we planned, the Gen X stories gang is getting ready for season five. Usually we keep our goofy-ass brainstorms private, but we totally want you to listen in on this one. Not only will you get a behind the scenes look into what we are planning, but you can hear what topics our Facebook group suggested for us. If you have thoughts about anything you hear please contact us here.
We will try to do a few encore/silly episodes for you this summer but when season 5 drops, we promise you won’t be disappointed. Thank you for being there for us over this tricky year and listening to our little show. Seeya in September!

The band is finally back together! After months of dealing with so much personal big stuff this season, the GenX Stories crew is finally together just in time to talk about it all. On this episode, we discuss accountability and integrity, when we actually started adulting and how we manage the bumps along our midlife road with humor. We also gain insight from our Facebook community as they get really raw and vulnerable on a topic that demands it of us all. Cuz really - for such a grown up word, how do we determine what "adulting" means for our generation?

Today we've got a GenX topic that effects us all deeply: making friends at midlife. Weird you say? Well you may be surprised to hear that after years of doing this podcast together, Lori and I had actually NEVER MET. At least not in person.
All that changed earlier this spring and we’re going to spill all the tea. (well, most of it). Not only did we meet (and talk and talk and talk and talk) we had dinner with 2 other new friends we made through our facebook group (and drank, and drank and drank.) So here is the question - is there a trick to making new friends at midlife, and are those “rules” different than when you were younger? Or is it just dumb luck. Listen and find out.

On today’s encore episode, the gang digs into what makes GenX the latest “sandwich” generation and how we’re handling it. Smushed between taking care of our parents and our kids, how did we go from being ignored to being needed by two different age groups? Well, it happened - we couldn’t get our schedules lined up to record this week. BUT the good news is that we have an encore episode for you we think is pretty special - our first ever together on the podcast! Learn how Lori, Courtney, Christopher and I started doing this wacky thing in season 2 (since season one was a totally different format.)
In this episode, we dig into what being GenX means to each of us knowing how pivotal the 80’s were for music, fashion, crisis and more. We'll also discuss our generation’s creativity & innovation and why Chris thinks that sequins and the SpaceX Dragon capsule don’t mix.
So as spring is starting around the country, why not find out a bit more of our origin story? (Which also happens to be a really fun episode.)

Today on the podcast we're talking all about jobs. The ones we had as kids, our first “real” ones, and even the ones that taught us a thing or two about life and ourselves. In a world where “quiet quitting”,“quiet firing” and the “great resignation” are now just part of work life, what do 50+ year olds expect in a job now? (Other that retire - well, maybe). We also share some of our beloved Facebook community’s first jobs, and pick one to send some awesome show swag to. Seriously, make it your job (see what we did there?) to listen.

We are also joined by music video historian and the brains behind website & magazine Music Video Time Machine, Stephen Pitalo. Today’s podcast episode is going to be a little different. We’re taking on a topic that both Courtney and I have sadly experienced firsthand - losing a parent as a Gen Xer - and it’s just the two of us. This is also a longer episode than usual and barely edited because we felt it was important to be as authentic as possible with you.
While we know this is an emotional topic, we don’t cover any of that up. You'll will hear us lose it, get angry and even laugh, because that’s how grief is. It’s also how GenX is - never one dimensional. We really hope this will start to normalize how we talk about grief, and helps you heal.
All that being said, if hearing about loss and grief upsets you to much, especially when it relates to someone you love, we will understand if you skip this episode because we are really really really open.
Thank you for being there for us. Let us be there for you?

Today we have a special little bonus episide for you - an interview with Gabi Lorino, a kick ass book editor and 100% pure GenXer. We originally thought this would be part of the books episode published last week, but it was too fabulous to edit down to a few minutes so it got it’s own.
Gabi's actually the type of GenXer we created this podcast for because she’s got some amazing stories to share. Hear all about her work as an anthology editor, the books she loved as a kid (and which she re-reads) the books she’s written already and what her “big birthday” goal is.

This week, the gang talks about books, books, and more books. The ones we loved reading as kids, the ones we shouldn't have read as kids, the books that shaped us how we grew up and what role books & reading plays now in our increasingly digital world.
Between rolling into the Scholastic book fairs, paying fines from overdue library books, sneaking forbidden books as a teenager and audio books vs old school reading, jump into to the land of make believe and imagination with us. Call us geeks, call us bookworms but don’t cancel our library card because we have opinions.

The GenX Stories gang needed some laughs so we took on the Muppets & Sesame Street which caused a serious conversation. (because of course it did).
Did you grow up with the Muppet Show or Sesame Street? Is Yoda really a muppet? (don’t fight Courtney about it!). And seriously, what character would YOU be? We get brutally honest and share our thoughts on muppet doppelgängers among other Jim Henson/Frank Oz stuff. Welcome to Season 4 of GenX Stories! While we we originally intended to launch this episode at the end of summer, I lost my father in September which sadly impacted everything. But we finally got the gang together, and thought we'd kick off our new season talking about how everything old is new again. Music, movies, fashion, everything is back (even stuff we wish wasn’t). With the GenZ'ers trying to own on our nostalgia now, is GenX down with that or does it annoy the fuck out of us? Listen and find out, because you know we have opinions.

Given the recent loss of my father, it’s a crazy time to share good news, but I wanna think dad would have been so proud.
Born from my 25th Penn reunion, the GenX Stories podcast just won a Best in Show W3 Award in the podcast category. For a teeny show run by four 50+ friends (and first time podcasters) not a podcast network, this is a huge honor.
I am SO thankful for our supporters & listeners and my beloved co-hosts who somehow agreed to go along with this crazy thing. Lori, Courtney, Chris and I can’t wait to share more GenX topics with you all in Season 4 later this month so stay tuned.
Meanwhile, check out some of our favorite now AWARD WINNING (hah!) episodes.

While we had hoped to start season four in September, sadly my beloved father passed away on September 11 due to a rapidly growing aggressive brain cancer. I am still reeling because it happened so fast and my mother and I are navigating the next few weeks, but season four of the podcast is obviously delayed.
On the bright side, Courtney, Chris, Lori and I did record the first two episodes at the end of August. And they’re great We are planning to launch the new season sometime in October so stay tuned.
Meanwhile, I have linked both my father’s obituary and the eulogy I gave for him here so you can get to know this incredible man a little bit.
I’ll miss you forever, daddy.

Get out the popcorn! The GenX Stories gang goes all out & shares how we really feel about the “new takes” of tv shows and movies we grew up on. While this was originally released WAY ahead of Top Gun: Maverick, thanks to GenX nostalgia it’s soared to $1.895 billion worldwide already. Cuz it was THAT good.

While we are on hiatus this summer (ahead of season four), the GenX Stories crew is re-releasing some of our most popular episodes and today’s is sadly pretty appropriate for our world right now.
After the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe Vs Wade on Jun 24, 2022, many of us have been very upset. Most of our listeners (and our show hosts!) have-not known a time when abortion wasn’t legal and safe, so we all worry what this means for our country now both in terms of bodily autonomy and overall human rights.
Between growing up with Gloria Steinam's influence on our mothers, watching Katie in The Way We Were, "Leaning In" w/Sheryl Sandberg at work and stressing out with Ada Calhoun at midlife, we share our expectations, experiences and how we're feeling about everything right now.
Check out the replay in it’s entirety of "What it’s like for a (GenX) girl” with an updated intro that includes post-Roe resources to help you all take action right now. If you (or a beloved woman in your life) have also been dealing with a changing world, this ep is for you.

As we wrap up season 3 of the podcast (OMG - really?) and look ahead to season 4, this episode is a love letter to our kick-ass and hysterical hosts. Check out some of the funny clips that were either bloopers or new stuff you’ve never heard before.
While new episodes of GenX Stories are on hiatus until season 4 drops late summer/early fall, don’t think you’ll get a total break from us! We’re gonna either re-release some of our personal favorites or share clips that will make you laugh your ass off and remember what it really means to be GenX.
Meanwhile, get comfy in that beach chair, enjoy a cool beverage and rock out with your favorite 50-somethings who are never at a loss for words.

It’s almost summer and the GenX Stories gang has a ton of kick-ass memories from ours. Admit it - we never thought we’d turn into our parents, but it’s happening. The podcast gang explores what that actually looks like for a sarcastic, non-conforming group like GenXers. We'd like to say you'll be surprised by our stories, but it's pretty likely that you’ll recognize yourself. It’s ok - we won’t tell.

Get out the popcorn! This week the GenX Stories gang shares how we really feel about the “new takes” of tv shows and movies we grew up on. Between Ghostbusters, A Star is Born, The Facts of Life and others you didn’t even know are remakes (or reboots?), can they ever be as good as the originals? And why is it happening so much now? Trust us - just listen and do NOT cross the streams.

Prepare for your Thanksgiving by hearing our insane family stories (because weaponized sticky buns), finding out the right time to eat holiday dinner and getting advice for this hectic time of year, including the best way to handle a "drive-by bunning”. On today’s episode, the gang digs into what makes GenX the latest “sandwich” generation and how we’re handling it. Smushed between taking care of our parents and our kids, how did we go from being ignored to being needed by two different age groups? No matter what kind of generational sandwich you are - club, open faced, keto, whatever - hear about choosing support groups over ice floes.
Oh, and that Swedish Death Cleaning isn’t a band name.

We have something embarrassing to admit - we got our publish dates a little off. While we have a kick ass Halloween episode ready to go, we're actually going to publish it next week (because, ya know, Halloween) which left today's scheduled episode sorta up in the air.
But have no fear because now you get to be a fly on the wall for this special BONUS ep - a little glimpse into our planning session for the rest of season three! We're keeping this short and sweet both because we want to keep you guessing and because we're still figuring it all out. As GenXers do.
Also Courtney is on the east coast right now, and we got to spend some in person time this past weekend, so hear about the trouble we got into together.

Is this episode a PJ party or just good old fashioned girl talk? What’s for sure is that the ladies of the podcast (Chris was traveling) chat openly and honestly about feminism & what it’s like to be a GenX woman. If you (or a beloved woman in your life) have also been thinking about evolving through it all, this ep is for you. Pinky promise.

It's the podcast gang's 1 year anniversary and we're celebrating! Between drivers ed, first cars, stick shifts, speed traps and sex in the back seat - you'll drive yourself nuts for missing this one. Catch a ride with Eve, Chris & Courtney (Lori was traveling but sent notes!) as we remember when we had the wind in our hair, slid across bench seats and cruised around with our best friends, blasting 80s tunes out of the sunroof. There’s even a surprise appearance at the end of the show, plus a kick ass “the more you know” ride sharing find.

As 2021’s high school class approaches their end of year events, you know the GenX Stories gang had to relive our own. But here’s the big question: who loved these rites of passage from the 80’s and who was all “whatever” about them?
We neither confirm or deny that these last days of senior year were filled with epic pranks, ditching class, bad silver tux rentals and graduation controversies. You’ll just have to get out that puffy shouldered prom dress out and hear what really happened.

Between Legos, Superballs, Lite Brite, Spirograph, video games, Lori's Barbies, and David Mamet’s Tetris high score on Eve’s computer, it’s pretty clear that the gang had no shortage of fun things to occupy our time as kids. Unless you’re Chris, who would turn all of his toys into something new (i.e break them) when he got bored.
Get ready to solve your Rubik's Cube like Courtney while you hear all about the games & toys we loved back then, which ones are still around today, and how we are managing the new bells and whistles that the latest generation seems to need. (Hint: Remove the batteries)

This week the gang waxes nostalgic about the movie soundtracks that scored our youth. And our midlife. And everything in-between.
Tune in to hear why we think soundtracks can make (or break) a movie, the unvarnished truth about overplayed songs (hint: Titanic), what it takes to get picked for a Bond film intro, and how movies are our “gateway drug” for discovering great music. Oh, and CHOMPERS. (Wait, what?).

Irony is rich as the podcast gang takes on GenX being summoned into the latest cancel culture kerfuffle. Seriously - have they met us? From the PC battles of our youth with Tipper Gore and PMRC to the recent “cancellations” of Mr. Potato Head, Dr Seuss and Pepe Le Pew, we have a ton of opinions.
For even more GenX perspective, we’ve added some wayyyyy unfiltered thoughts from our FB group community. Thanks to Nikita, Spam, Alan, Allison, Krystee, Trish, Carrie, Christine & Rob for a kick-ass discussion on how our generation really feels about cancel culture.
So, listen or not. Whatever.

Between Ginsu knives, the Pepsi challenge, Life Cereal and even the 1984 Apple ad that played only once, GenX has been marketed to our whole lives. Since we’re not captive audiences anymore, has anything changed now that we're in our 50s? Or has our nostalgia become our kryptonite?
The GenX Stories gang definitely has opinions (and memories). Hear stories like Lori’s brush with Grow Up Skipper, the COVID Alaska Air ad Courtney hates, Chris’s real use for his Evil Knievel toy and how AARP found Eve on Facebook the second she turned 50.
Find out if Trix are still for kids on this deep dive down the GenX advertising rabbit hole.

This week the GenX Stories gang is talking about all our friendships. The ride or dies, the ones who hide the bodies for us, the ones we'd bail out of jail with no questions, our “outer ring” acquaintances and even social media pals.
Listen in as Eve, Courtney, Lori and Chris dig into burning questions like: Are we finding our friendships more or less important during the pandemic? How DO you break up with a friend? Has politics affected friendships? What about all those "Pluto" friends? How are you judged by the company you keep? And finally, is there an embroidered pillow saying for that?
We’re seriously spilling all the BFF tea - you won’t want to miss this one.

If you don’t think our generation uses MacGyver as a verb, the GenX Stories gang will prove you wrong. How? Because we (ironically) recorded this technology themed episode using Eve’s plan D, Mercury retrograde headphone mic. No, we’re not kidding.
From the truth about old school TV clickers, to long telephone cord strategies, to why we absolutely refuse to use TikTok now (even though we love Steve Nicks), this funny chat about the innovations that made us will take you wayyyy back.

Boo! It’s a Monster Mash of spooky subjects on this week’s special Halloween episode of GenX Stories. The gang dives right in with haunted houses, fuzzy blue dog costumes and of course, candy corn! If that’s not creepy enough, check out the bite size versus full size candy debate, hear stories of shooting 8 lb pumpkins down 53rd street (and over to NJ), and get our grown-up take on 2020’s scary impact on Halloween.
Oh and for those wondering if passing out candy is still an option this year, Chris suggests a trebuchet or a t-shirt cannon to shoot candy from your doorstep.
Either way, we say have fun, buy all the candies 50% off and don’t forget to ditch all your hidden wrappers

We’ll go ahead and say it - this celebrity crushes episode may be the funniest we’ve ever produced. But prepare yourself: Courtney was ON FIRE.
This week, we admit to our youthful celebrity obsessions (Jake - call me!), pre and post pubescent infatuations, and even name a few of our current hall passes. Along the way, there are bad boys, adorkable girls, Mary Tyler Moore (wait, what?) historical hotties, and finding out how to actually pronounce Elwes. There may even be a political passion or two, but we know that Rep Henry Waxman isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. OH! And we do a ton of callouts from our kick-ass FB group crew, who helped us pick this topic. (thanks guys!)
Make sure to listen until the end for some snort-your-coffee-out-of-your nose zingers. Seriously - it’s worth it.

“What's wrong with you?” Who else heard that growing up? This week the gang discusses our hopes and dreams for who or what we would become, how our parents reacted to leaving stable jobs (or not entering into them at all), ways we navigated career expectations, and what really happened.
From dreams of writing for the NY Times and being the first woman president, to following your heart from the beginning, each of us shares the non traditional path we took to get to where we are today.
So what’s next? In true GenX fashion, most of us have decided to “buy the ticket and take the ride” and not worry tooooo much about the future (Cuz we can’t retire until 67 anyway!)
Our advice? “Take the leap and the net will appear".

Today’s show was recorded on September 20th, just 2 days after the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. The original plan was just add a few minutes to our previously recorded Rocking the Vote episode, but not with this gang.
We had such a great chat about RBG that deserved its very own episode. Hear about what she meant to us as GenXers, her legacy moving forward, plus a few fun little stories. Want to know why RBG fell asleep during the state of the union or why she learned Swedish? Ya gotta listen to find out.
While we usually drop episodes every 2 weeks, we are creating a few off-cycle, “bonus” episodes this season, both cuz things are moving really fast in our world, and we keep recording too much cool shit not to share. So stay tuned for more epic goodies to come this fall, when we all need it the most.

In this episode we dive deep into our first voting experience, our next one and everything in between. Having taped this initial episode several weeks before RBG passed, we also recorded a new intro to touch on how her loss changes everything (plus look for a special bonus off-cycle episode all about RBG next week!)
For this group of podcasters, it’s clear that our politics have not changed but our passion has grown deeper. (plus doesn’t it kick ass to get that damn sticker?). This week, we reminded ourselves of the importance of our vote in this current election, as well as discussed women in politics, RBG (wahhhhhhh!), why election day is the 2nd Tuesday in November, what presidents are like really like IRL, Obama, and the state of our world.
“Decisions are made by those who show up” may be a quote from The West Wing (Thanks Eve, you SorkinFreak), but it’s also a reminder that we need to vote like our lives depend on it. Because it really does.
Here are a few voting tips regardless of party:

In this episode we delve into the art of the mixtape and its cultural place in our lives. Co-host Courtney may have gone a little overboard with, “the mixtape were musical vignettes to tell the stories of our lives”, but okay Court! We’re rolling with it.
As for the rest of us, Eve, Lori and Chris saw the mixtape as a magical way to express our musical stylings back in the day, whether we were making the tape for ourselves or for that special someone. Take a journey with us as we remember the art, memories, and dare we say, replacement of the mixtape now (hint: it’s not what you think.).

You’re not hearing or seeing things - we changed things up a bit for season 2 of GenX Stories. Every Wednesday, Eve is going to have fun & frank conversations about everything GenX with a brand new gang of kick-ass co-hosts - Lori Luna, Chris Goumas and Courtney Spikes.
In this episode we dig into what being GenX means to each of us knowing how pivotal the 80’s were for music, fashion, crisis and more. We'll also discuss our generation’s creativity & innovation, Halloween candy pillowcase logistics and why Chris thinks that sequins and the SpaceX Dragon capsule don’t mix.
Some of the topics we are psyched to explore for season 2 include: the election, the art of mixtapes, celebrity crushes and Inauguration 2021 (well, if we haven't moved to New Zealand by then).

Plus, we chat with Colleen Wright, a founding member of Gonzo’s Nose about her musical influences, what it was like to be a lead singer in a popular 90s cover band, and why she and her husband started doing #quarantineconcerts from their front porch.

Dating during a pandemic. Is it even possible? And, are there any good things about meeting a potential suitor via Zoom? We sat down with Matchmaker Extraordinaire Laurie Berzack to discuss what’s has happened with dating and matchmaking since we all went into self isolation. And earlier this year, we also chatted with our good friend Mollie Mulvanity about her dating life as a GenXer. A lot has changed since this interview but some things have stayed the same, like managing expectations, the importance of clear communication, and the very human need to connect no matter the circumstances.
Plus, we’ve included some amusing, booze-fueled moments from our most recent GenX Stories Zoom Happy Hour. Special thanks to Liz, Sonia, Brad, Jennifer, Jon, and Nikita for letting us use their clips.

It’s been just over a month since most of us went into self-isolation. How is GenX doing under these remarkable circumstances? Is the resilience that served us well over the years enough to get us through this insane situation? Are introverts managing better than extroverts? We checked in with some of our friends during a GenX Zoom happy hour and discussed how hobbies like collecting Star Wars Storm Troopers and dressing up in costume are keeping some of us sane. Plus, we delve into our favorite wines, self-soothing tips, and more.
Special thanks to Sonia, Liz, Lori, Mary, Derek, Cheri, Steph, and Jason for letting us use their clips!

The coronavirus crisis rages on, forcing us to shelter in place and socially isolate. The very fabric of our lives has been shredded like an old punk rock t-shirt. But we persist. In today’s special episode, we discuss what it’s like when everything is cancelled, how to give back and support our communities during the pandemic, and how GenXers are coping in sickness and in health.
Plus, we share outtakes from our recent virtual GenX Stories happy hour including we're dealing with rebellious parents, kids stuck at home, and what we’re looking forward to when it’s all over. Like the rest of the world, we’re taking all of this day by day and doing the best we can.

A global pandemic that once existed only in sci-fi films is now our reality. Self-isolation, social distancing, Zoom all day long, obsessive hand washing, toilet paper shortages, and trying to keep our parents and kids in check...welcome to this brave new world.
Sure, GenXers have faced tough times before including recessions, 9/11, and acid washed jeans, but nothing like this. In this episode, we discuss how GenX is handling the coronavirus pandemic and how our survival skills from growing up are playing a key role in staying sane. Plus, you'll hear from other GenXers on their coping strategies, first concerts, and why we’re uniquely prepared to deal with this crisis.

Are GenXers really the “slackers” we were once called? History proves quite the opposite. Never ones to sit by and be comfortable with the status quo, GenXers questioned everything--from the racial injustice that was rampant in the 90s to the “greed is good” mentality of the 80s.
During this episode, we take a look back at how growing up in the 80s and 90s shaped our own activism. We discuss Eve’s stint at the ACLU during college, free speech, Third Wave Feminism, reproductive rights, Anita Hill, #metoo, and Sacha’s introduction to protests during the “Take Back the Night” marches at the University of Wisconsin, and how the 2016 election jolted us back into activism.
Plus, we talk to Elisa Camahort Page, one of the founders of BlogHER and the author of “Road Map for Revolutionaries: Resistance, Activism, and Advocacy for All” about how she started BlogHER, what drove her to write her most recent book, who inspires her, and how to make a difference.
