  • “When your soul is rested we’re actually much more productive, and more clear-headed and full of joy. We can love people better.” - Laura L. Smith

Some notable quotes from this episode include:

  • “We so want an easy, comfortable life, but it is the hard things that teach us that resilience and resourcefulness.” - Jennifer
  • “When we look at our own lives and realize that out of these hard things, good came out of it. That can help us trust God with our kids and knowing that he has things to teach them. We don’t want to rob them of those things, as hard as it is sometimes.” -Andrea

Knowing Yourself as a Leader with Beth McCord - #205: Jennifer Iverson chats with Enneagram expert Beth McCord about how self-awareness is a crucial part of our leadership.

Great quotes from this episode include:

  • “It’s good to see what other people are gifted at. But what is God calling me to be? How is he calling me to be shaped with the personality he gave me? That’s what the Enneagram is going to help us to understand: Am I living in alignment, misalignment or out of alignment with the truth of the gospel in how he created me?” - Beth
  • “It is so important as leaders that we understand our people and that we take care of them in the way that is best suited for them.” - Beth
  • “By definition as a leader, you are leading people. But these people were created uniquely and not identical to you. What motivates them isn’t the same thing motivates you.” - Jennifer

Kindness for Your Body with Lisa Whittle - #196: Jennifer Iverson talks with Make It Awkward curriculum speaker Lisa Whittle about how body image affects motherhood and how to care for ourselves well.

Powerful quotes from this episode:

  • “Whole body theology is really giving all of our body's issues foundational solid ground on which to stand. It's almost like going to scripture for body and soul 101 is what it is. It's learning that design, function and purpose that we don't otherwise know when we're over here just worried about calorie counts. And then we get it. And when we get it, we make our body decisions very differently.” - Lisa Whittle
  • “We are so shallow sometimes to think this is just about a size or a weight. We were created in the image of God to live in our bodies. It is so crucial to understand that because it will change us in every aspect of our life. We may lose weight. We may have a better body, but I'll tell you what we will have a better body because we will be a better person, and it will change our body and soul.” - Lisa Whittle
  • “All of these things that we do, it's all taking care of the bushes, trimming them, watering them. But getting this whole-body theology is taking care of the root system, which will allow that plant to be there for generations. And that's what we're really hoping to do.” - Jennifer Iverson

Join host Kelli Jordan and our special guest Melodi Leih as they talk about this question, “What does it mean to THRIVE?”

The word “thrive” is defined by Webster’s Dictionary this way – to grow or develop well – vigorously. This is what we want for ourselves as leaders and for others. Leaders who are growing and developing well personally, lead others well.

Why do we need to have leaders who thrive?

  • Creates strong teams
  • Missional focus
  • Connects moms to each other
  • Connects moms to Jesus

To be leaders who thrive it takes:

  • T – Teamwork
  • H – Healthy dialogue
  • R – Reconsider
  • I – Intentionally invest
  • V – Vision
  • E – Encourage

After you listen, consider these questions:  What isn’t going as well as you’d like it to? Write it down.  How do I move that from not thriving to thriving?  Write it down and then share it with someone else.

Join host Kelli Jordan and our guest Jennifer Iverson. We’ll use the word THRIVE to think about how we can grow as a leader and grow our MOPS Kids program. (We are using the word THRIVE, but we aren’t doing it in order!)

T - Take care of yourself – be growing spiritually, emotionally and physically

H - Heart Attitude – I get to vs I have to

V - Vision – be intentional vs filling moments

E - Expect “trouble” – have a plan for crisis/safety

R - Rearrange tasks – fight the overwhelm by breaking tasks into smaller bites

I - Invite workers/moms/grandmas/aunts/uncles

After you listen, we challenge you to look back over these six things and pick two that you are going to implement this month. Talk with another on your leadership team and make it a joint effort.

Host Jennifer Iverson and guest Stacey Morgan talk about the importance and influence of discussion group leaders in your group. The DGL position allows the opportunity to be a fearless friend. We do that by:

  • Praying for every mom by name
  • Pursuing the relationship
  • Providing a reflection of God’s love.

After listening, consider these questions and share your answers with a friend or fellow leader:

  • How would you do things differently if you had no fear and complete freedom to be the friend you’ve always wanted?
  • What did you learn that you can incorporate into your role as DGL this year?

Jennifer Iverson and guest Kelli Jordan answer the question, “What does thriving as a mentor look like, especially in a setting like MOPS or MOMSnext?” As a mentor, we have the challenge to thrive ourselves and the opportunity to help others thrive, too.

A thriving mentor will:

  • Show up by being present and setting boundaries.
  • Speak up by celebrating others, being honest about ourselves, being slow to take offense, give advice or join in on pity parties.
  • Stand up by being an advocate for MOPS, moms and our church.

After listening, consider how you are already showing up, speaking and standing up as a mentor and then consider what else you could do. Take the next step into what God has designed for you as a mentor and bring what only you can bring to it.

Join host Kelli Jordan and our guest Sherri Crandall, VP of Global Ministries and Leadership  Experience as they talk about what it means to thrive, rather than just survive.

People who thrive

  • Have strong spiritual or religious beliefs
  • They are optimistic
  • They are self-motivated
  • They are pro-active in thought and behavior
  • They are life-long learners
  • They are adaptable
  • They are socially competent  ( they have good relationships with family, friends, and community)
  • They are self-confident
  • Yet they are not narcissistic

After listening, do these three things:

  1. Take a look at this list and be really honest. Where are you thriving and where are you just surviving?
  2. List the things in your life that are made of glass compared to those things made of rubber.
  3. Share your lists with someone else.

As Christians, we know we are called to love our neighbor. We may even grasp that "neighbor" encompasses more than just the people living next door or down the street. And what does this look like for a MOPS leader, specifically? Alexandra Kuykendall lays out the framework for where to begin. Join Elisa Morgan, our MOPS friend and President Emerita, in this honest conversation about prayer. When Jesus prayed in the Garden, he begged for relief from the trial he faced, while utterly complying with what he knew the Father’s will to be. Jesus pivoted between praying: This is what I want, God (Honest) and What do you want, God? (Abandon). Both in the same breath. If Jesus prayed this way, shouldn't we as well?

We are all broken and that brokenness motivates us to grab hold of things that we believe will help us through the pain. We are all addicted to something – we grab hold of things besides Jesus, searching for relief and healing. As broken leaders, how do we welcome broken people into our community and walk alongside them? How do we help others move from pain, through addiction, and on to a place where they let go of everything and are only attached to Jesus? How do we help them come to him with their pain so they can experience his healing and presence?
