As a wife, mom, full time employee, founder of Mommifaceted and freelance writer - I know that my priority is my family. In order to make them a priority I have to spend time with each person individually so that they know that our family is close and we can create that bond.
I want to build these relationships between my nuclear family so that my boys know they will always have each other, my husband, and myself. Growing up we were close knit, my sister, mother, father and I. We didn’t have extended family who lived close to us and had to travel to see family. Our bond continues today, my immediate family remains close.
For my children, I want that closeness. I'm also working for extended family to get closer, that’s part of why we moved to Texas. To do this, I work to spend specific time with each person. Some of it works, some doesn’t. I’m still working hard on this and figuring out the best way to do this.
This is how I’m starting. On this podcast episode, I'm sharing what I do for each family member.

I had a terrible night of rest the other day. My youngest son wanted to stay up and keep nursing all night long. Needless to say the next day I was dragging. I had to take a nap, something I never get to do, and it was great!
I'm intentionally working on getting more rest because it's necessary for me to function the way I need to.
What happens to your body when you don't get enough rest: 1. You may get sick 2. You gain weight 3. You forget things and get foggy 4. You are accident prone
Reasons why you aren't getting enough rest: 1. You take sleep for granted 2. You rely on caffeine and alcohol 3. Eating and drinking late 4. Failing to wind down before bed
Listen to this episode for my top tips for getting rested more often.

Nefertiti Austin is a mother of two children, an author and sharing how she realized how different it can be to be a black mother in today's times. Once she realized this - she began writing. Her natural reaction to what she was feeling led her to a series of essays that eventually became a memoir that details what she could not find.
She wanted to read more stories of black women who had adopted children and were single mothers by choice - raising black children in a world where race is a part of the conversation. To be a black mother is not a conversation that is being had in our TV shows, in media, and other outlets.
Her book, Motherhood So White, details the differences she's experienced and seen that are not found in mainstream media - and can be helpful for any mother of a child of color.

Shunta Grant is a proponent of embracing joy and finding joy in all areas of life. She is constantly teaching about how not to just be "busy" but work on meaningful things - which is so important in motherhood.
On this podcast episode we discuss how she makes sure she's aware of everything that's going on in her children's lives.
We also talk how we can have joy in motherhood - why it can be lacking and how do we overcome it to find our joy again and practice embracing joy daily.
We forget that our children are a blessing...there are people who wish they could have a child having a meltdown in Target.
Shunta Grant
Lastly, before the final questions we talk about how structure and routine helps Shunta's daughter as much as it helps her.
Your yes is still saying no to something and I'm not sacrificing me for someone else when I know it's not going to be best for me and the greater good.

We might not all be the most creative people out there - but we all have the skills necessary to tap into it! As mothers we have to constantly tap into that to keep our children entertained!
Jena Holliday and I talk about how she encourages each of us to nurture our imaginative side, how she built her illustration and design business while transitioning to a mom of 2, and how she wears all the hats.
We talk about grace, failure, experiences, success and life transitions as mothers.
We are all creative because we are like our creator, God.
Jena Holliday
If you're looking for your creative gifts, Jena suggests: 1. Pray and ask to be shown what your gifts are 2. Journal each day to start the daily practice of creating something 3. Read a book about inspiring people and stories 4. Find community and/or an accountability partner
Sometimes we think we don't have time for that, but taking one day to ease your mind will make a world of difference.

Nicole Cole is an expert on all things learning through play and as a busy mom she gets it when it's been a long day but you still want to engage with your child. She talks on the podcast today about how to fit it in when we're tired from work, commutes, and being around other people.
Nicole expresses the need for moms to regularly advocate for themselves - we talk about how vital this is. She says it's important to be intentional about learning through play - because it offers children ways to socialize after she saw the results in the classroom.
She suggests to try different materials and let them just play to encourage independent play. This makes it easy to do after a busy day, especially when you have open ended toys so there is no planning needed.
We get into how we can get our spouses involved if they're not up on why this method is so important. Nicole reminds us that when others play with your children it might not look like how you play with them.
I would encourage moms to really advocate for yourselves, even if it's a new job...let your employer know things have changed.

We know that balance doesn't exist - it's nearly impossible to keep the scales perfectly even when our lives are moving as fast as they are.
We, as moms, are juggling so much and making so many decisions that we may have overflow from one category in our lives to another.
There are 4 phases or spaces that we as moms can be if we're not in 100% balance and when balance doesn't exist for us:
Harmony - things can be in harmony where we work things together and one area of our lives might take precedence, but the others can fall a little and be picked back up later.
Philippians 4:11
Grace/Forgiveness - we have to constantly give ourselves grace and forgiveness as we're not in perfect balance.
John 5:30
Overwhelm and Craziness - it's normal to have anxiety and be burdened, but Christ says to bring it and come to him in these times.
1 Peter 5:7 and Matthew 11:28-29
Long View/Seasons - make sure to always be looking at the long view - the season you are in is just a short moment of your entire motherhood journey.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Let me know what phase you are currently in! Send me a message or DM me and share!

Who do you need in your mom tribe? Personal mom tribes are necessary – we can’t expect everyone to understand the joys of motherhood like cleaning up blowouts, eating your food cold after everyone else was fed, and hearing your name called for 15 minutes straight with no end in sight.
Why is it important: - You need people around you to support you
They get what you’re going through
So you won’t feel alone or think you’re the only one who’s dealing with it
So you can be a better mom by having an outlet and seeing how others do it
Some tips about this tribe: - Don’t feel guilty if you don’t stay in touch regularly, we all get it
These women get what you’re going through, so use this time to vent if you need to or ask for help and solicited advice (not like the unsolicited advice you got when pregnant that you probably forgot about)
This should be a no judging space – so make sure you pick people that can accept this
Keep the number to a comfortable amount – if only 2 people can be in your tribe because that’s all the energy you have at the moment, it’s ok, but if you like a bigger crowd, go for it.
Your tribe of mom friends is there to celebrate with you and laugh with you and cry with you and help you get through motherhood with your sanity
Your mom tribe is there to support you and help you know your worth and that you are a good parent
Types of people you need in your mom tribe: 1. Sage wisdom 2. Fun and spontaneous/cool mom 3. Encourager and Prayer Partner – can go both ways 4. The one who tells you what you NEED to hear 5. Old time friend – who knew you before you were a mom

Episode 20 is here! How to overcome the pressures of working overtime! It's the 20th episode!! I can't believe it! I just want to thank you for listening - I do not take it lightly at all. Spending 30-45 minutes with this podcast shows me that you all want to be the best women you can be just like I do and that I'm not alone out here in these mom streets.
Today's episode is for all of the working moms - most of us have been in a position where we think we have to do it all - especially at work so that we can get that promotion, get that award or recognition, prove our worth in the workplace.
As moms, you may have a sense that you are not viewed the same as childless or single employees, because you have home obligations - so to compensate, your work extra hours and stay late. Or come in early, or answer emails before bed. Whatever you do, you are not alone. But, you don't have to do this. There are ways to prioritize, say no!, get your work done, and go home happier and not so exhausted from living a life of all work and no play.
Ashley Sutton is my guest, she is the author of Overtime is SO Over, Leave the Office and Get Your Life Back. She gives her personal experiences and research to share how to overcome those ideas of needing to always be available for your employer and always putting in the most time. Those thoughts are a battle and she gives some easy wins on how to stop putting yourself in this position.
[bctt tweet="It's not about saying no, it's about saying not right now and prioritizing what you need to get done - Ashley Sutton" username="Mommifaceted"]
[bctt tweet="It's all about high performance and high achievement, but that doesn't equate to working crazy hours - Ashley Sutton" username="Mommifaceted"]
Ashley's Bio
Ashley Sutton began her career in marketing with Fortune 500 beauty company Avon Products, where she built her knowledge in product development, on the North America color cosmetics brand team. Ashley’s eagerness to learn about international business led her to her next role with Mattel (Fisher-Price). Ashley managed the toy development for multiple entertainment preschool brands, such as Mickey Mouse, Thomas the Train, Octonauts, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, among others, across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. As Ashley’s desire to round out her marketing skills continued, she leapt into consumer and digital marketing with Entertainment One’s family division, where her key responsibilities are to secure digital promotions, oversee social media and blogger outreach, create digital content and assets, and work to develop brand marketing initiatives for preschool licensed brands.
Throughout her career journey, she learned a lot about her strengths and opportunities to grow, and better prioritize her life. Working crazy long hours, with very little ROI in your personal life, could either drive you insane, or light a fire to make some serious change. Ashley chose the latter. She was burning the midnight oil, and started to see her health and energy decline. She surveyed friends and colleagues, and found that many of them were all, in some way, shape, or form driving themselves into destruction by working unfathomable hours. She channeled these stories into her newly published book, Overtime Is SO Over.
As an avid volunteer, Ashley believes in the power of giving back. She is a mentor and has acted as a national judge for the NAACP Act-So organization, where she helps high school students engage in entrepreneurship, STEM, and the arts.
In her spare time, Ashley loves music, travel; and of course, attempting to make her meals look “just like the picture,” when she’s in the kitchen!

Jenell starts most of her projects from a space of innovation and creativity. She constantly looks to what is missing for her next task. She started Kinky Curly Coily Me because she didn't see information online for black women about natural hair and the journey to going natural.
After growing as a woman, becoming married, having children, and wanting to share all of her other passions besides hair and beauty - she started her Jenell B. Stewart brand. Now she's branched out into podcasting, video production, her daughter's brand, and more to come.
As a mom - she gets the babies in line with her schedule - not the other way around. She knew she was going to be a working mom, so she found a way to seamlessly incorporate the children into her life. And by doing this, she allows her children to embrace their independence and frees up some time for her to get things done.

Jenell is an award winning beauty editor, a wife and mom of 2, a youtuber, podcaster and social media maven. When she's not writing, editing, and filming YT videos--she's either playing with her kids, working out, eating in some restaurant, or traveling the world with her family.

She is seeing high profile professionals talk more about how they require great sleep - and the power of sleep, and is hoping moms will start to prioritize the sleep they need. And the power of getting quality sleep - even if we're not getting as much as we should.

Her plan is to bring fitness to the forefront and dispel the misconceptions about pregnancy and fitness. Leah Egwautu is a Houston fit mom blogger with a passion and heart for pregnant, prenatal and postpartum moms.
So she got certified in pre and post natal fitness to follow her calling of helping women heal from pregnancy physically, spiritually, and mentally. As a mom of 3 children, she is admittedly still working on figuring it all out - balancing her crazy schedule with taking care of her children and family. However, she has one top tip for how she keeps sane and find a way to have her best day with her morning routine.
The most common struggles she see's from moms are learning what they can and can't do postpartum and how to fix their diet. So she shares fitness tips, recipes, fashion, and holds weekly fitness classes on her blog and in her local area. She has had partnerships with Costco, her own 5k run, and appeared as a fit mom expert on TV.

Today I'm giving you my first hand experience of when bragging on myself actually benefited me. I'm not a supporter of going on and on about yourself, but sometimes - a little self-promotion is all you need to get yourself going, get some appreciation, and celebrate yourself the right way. Don't be afraid of a little brag! In the episode I talk about how bragging can be done the wrong way and the right way. I give my top reasons for why bragging works including:
Bragging or celebrating yourself, which is what I'm really promoting, can be done with a simple 3-step method that won't feel sleezy or uncomfortable.
I created a separate and extra bragging worksheet so we can incorporate celebration of our successes into a weekly event!
Get your copy here.
I also included 25 low cost and quick ways to reward yourself - because we can't all get to celebrate with a dream vacation. Sometimes, we gotta do it quickly before the kids get home, you know what I mean?

Even though she is an experienced therapist, teacher, and clinician, she still wanted to get the experience to be comfortable in being a coach.
She balanced her business, an additional contract, her husband working a third shift, and three young children of varying ages. She uses the concept of blocking off times to ensure that she is focused and present for what she planned ahead of time.
She talks about why she does quarterly goals instead of a big year end goal and explains how she breaks it all down. She talks about her number one question she asks herself when planning her goals and it's probably not what you'd expect.
Nikki gives a great tip on balancing when you have a baby at home and try to work at the same time.
She's proud of ditching her fears, forgoing all of the formal education that she received and pivoting to another world, the world of coaching. It took a while to get buy in from her family, but she overcame her fears.
Christine is a headstrong and vocal millennial mom who has had experiences leading her to be called a thought leader. She's the mother of two black dragons - if you're a Game of Thrones fan, you'll appreciate the reference.
She had a difficult labor for both children, but knowing that she was born to be a mother - she pushed forward through the journey to motherhood.
Christine has moved from the corporate world, to entrepreneurship and back to the corporate world. She returned to the workforce and ended up making 3x the money - because of her transferable skills from her entrepreneurship journey. She talks about how she made the decision to go back to a full time job, how that impacted her family, and how she dealt with the anxiety and emotional turmoil of making a big change and not feeling like she had failed.
She defines what is driving millennial moms to be big change agents and we talk about how we are raising our children differently than generations in the past. Christine talks about how to increase diversity and inclusion within our own atmosphere of influence. I love that Christine is using her writing to help us to internalize how hard it is to be a working millennial mom and try to have it all in life.
All important topics to talk about with any mom - I already want to have her back on!

Hello everyone!
This week has been very eye opening. I have been doing some introspective thinking about the brand and where I want it to go and the direction that I believe God is leading me and I can tell that I'm so close to figuring out that exact path.
Have you ever had that feeling? Where your ideas are great and you know they could work, but they are not 100% the right idea? But, the ideas keep getting better and better - so that's how I know I'm on the right track. I was riding in my car on the way home, I have about a 45 minute commute to and from work each day. On this particular day, I must have come up with 5 new ideas for content, other Facebook and Instagram live recordings that I want to do, they type of guests I want to invite to the show. So, this is all very exciting and I'm definitely moving in the right direction. Now I am just meditating each day and waiting for God to reveal the BIG project that I need to work on. Right now, I have plenty of forward moving tasks to do, but I'm expecting him to remove the fog and make it clear and plain what the big vision is. I definitely want to get the sign off before I go traipsing through a plan that I created within myself - because that is not going to lead to the highest success.
One thing I do know for sure, is that I'm going to require some automation and documented processes. Which is what I talked to Sharon Hadden about on this week's Facebook live. I am sharing the replay here because she gave so much information and actual tools that she uses for her business and her clients.
Sharon Hadden is the owner of Social Savvy Consulting Group. She is a storyteller and lead generator all in one. She guides marketing efforts across social, digital, and in-person channels for women led small businesses. Sharon helps women in business leverage the power of social marketing, influencer marketing, copywriting and content strategy.
In the episode we talk about how important it is to have automatic responses when you are interacting with your customers and making the payment system automated so that you get paid correctly and on time. We discuss why documenting processes should become a top priority in your business to save you time and money when you could be spending time in your craft and bringing in more business. I asked her what things shouldn't be automated - and she talks about something that should not be automated - something that I am guilty of with my social media platforms. Lastly, we dive into passive income generators. Sharon believes that everyone you know is earning passive income - which I find interesting and true in the way she looks at it.
Sharon's Bio:
Sharon is a writer first, by passion and profession. Her superpower is storytelling and lead generation. For a number of years, Sharon worked with the FBI to manage media, public affairs and community relations.
Small businesses turn to Sharon when they need guidance on integrating their marketing efforts across social, digital and in-person channels. With a Masters in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University, and a specialization in content strategy and social marketing, Sharon helps women in business leverage the power of social marketing, influencer marketing, copywriting and content strategy.
For as long as she can remember, Sharon has been an entrepreneur at heart. Her parents still embarrass her with stories of selling her Halloween candy to fellow kindergarteners or hand-printing a neighborhood newsletter at the ripe old age of 7 years-old.
Sharon lives in San Jose, CA, and founded the agency in 2011, while living in Washington, DC. Her background in public relations is the key to her success at creating marketing and social media campaigns that build loyalty and excite customers.
Sharon has been a licensed cosmetologist for over 10 years and has a passion for beauty, health and wellness. She's a subscription box addict, and loves the novelty and convenience that retail subscription services provide.

Simona Noce is a PR guru and special events maven, but she's a millennial mom first!
She was juggling a pr career - which has the craziest hours, evening and weekend events took a toll on her. With all of that, she decided to follow her passion, by adding more to her plate and started a wedding planning business and doing PR on the side while working a full time job.
She had to give up the possibility to move up in her career, take great positions in the company, and live in LA or NY. She got to a point in motherhood where she had to follow what she loved and what was best for her family.
She loved her career but decided that to be a present and available mom and focus on her passion of events as an entrepreneur, she had to transition and is now the founder of The NoceModel PR and co-founder of District MotherHued.

On the podcast today I have interviewed Phylicia Masonheimer. She is a Christian relationship blogger and productivity expert. She uses the preferred methods of communication for her and her husband to make time for each other and pre-plan intimacy. She's a christian sex blogger who wrote, Christian Cosmo, The Sex Talk You Never Had - a Christian take on Cosmo magazine where she combines the blunt honesty of Cosmo with a biblical approach to the most often asked questions.
She shares her principals and productivity tips on working in the fringe hours with kids at home. And about how she predetermines her tasks with her schedule so that she stays on track in the time that she does have.

Starting a foundation from scratch is no easy feat - but this activist has grown Teen Diaries Foundation into a life-changing foundation for young girls who are now getting jobs at publications such as Nylon, Essence, Us Weekly, and Refinery 29. During this time, she also founded Pretty Girls Sweat after learning about the staggering childhood obesity epidemic. Although she has grown two recognizable and empowering brands, her true strength is in her ability to pour everything she can into her own daughters and young women around the country. Aeshia gets honest about what motivates her, what keeps her fit, and how her children have constantly proven people wrong with her constant support. Bio: Aeshia is living her dream. The social entrepreneur, born in Queens, NY, unites and empowers girls to be health leaders in their communities. The alarming childhood obesity epidemic along with the void of entertaining yet positive fitness content and fitness events for female students (13-22) and young professionals (22 and up) led to the conception and rapid growth of her passionate venture. Aeshia leads business development, marketing, sales, and event execution and has been responsible for bringing on clients and partners including adidas women, Aquafina, Nike, Banana Republic, YMCA, Essence, Samsung and Girl Scouts of the USA. Before creating PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, Aeshia thrived in the TV industry for over nine years - working her way up from an intern at ABC to a producer on Sundance Channel's celebrated, primetime series ICONOCLASTS (via @radical.media), which enabled her to work with her idol, Dr. Maya Angelou. The former high school athlete (track, volleyball, and basketball), a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University (Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications), and proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was also a model for Wilhelmina in New York City.
