Before I officially titled this episode I asked myself… is this new iteration of the J2T podcast a reboot or a renaissance? I felt like it was the latter but honestly, I had to look up the definition to be certain!
Ren·ais·sance
/ˈrenəˌsäns/
a revival of or renewed interest in something.
noun: renaissance; plural noun: renaissances
Alas, it is a true renaissance!
Today is the 8th Podversary of Journey to There and with any anniversary comes reflection. Some of which are bittersweet. Why did I let some much time lapse? What if I had kept it moving forward? Is it worth bringing it back?
I need to reign in the negative self-talk that’s ramping up fast because I want to indulge in some good ole fashion flogging with thoughts like, “I own a damn full service production company. How could I let this happen?” The answer is I didn’t “let” anything happen. Life happened.
So, let’s catch up!
The pandemic impacted everyone individually and collectively. I’m still sorting through the whirlwind effect it had on our lives including the fact that I still don’t have my full ensemble of taste buds back but I digress.
My husband and I left the South Florida seaside life for the mountains of Taos, NM in 2020. This literal journey came with high expectations and ended with some bottomed out emotional disappointments.
My salve of course was to bury myself neck deep in Produce Your Podcast which resulted in 3X growth. Yay! But if you’ve listened to any previous episodes of this podcast then you know…building successful businesses has never been my challenge. Building a successful personal life is my never ending life lesson. Times haven’t changed that much.
We left Taos and made a pit stop in Tucson, Az for a year. I was so checked out of my life that I literally justified the decision to live in a town that held no interest for me and wasn’t remotely close to any of my friends and family. My brain told me none of that mattered because my focus needed to be on growing the business and that was all I was planning on doing anyway. Never underestimate the power of a work addicted brain.
And now, a new adventure has begun with an International move to Mexico. I’m reconnected to my seaside life which I affectionately refer to as my sea -soul life. Although, I’m still not remotely geographically close to friends and family- they are a lot more likely to visit me here. We also added a new addition to the family. His name is Finn and he is a 100lb Golden Doodle who everyone should take their life lessons from…
Always be up for an adventure
Every day brings a new chance to experience joy
If you live for naps and snacks the rest will take care of itself.
It’s fair to say I’m still on my journey to there; thus the renaissance of the podcast. I’ve learned a few new lessons along the way and come through the other side of some stuff aka sh*t and ready to share my musings with you.
I’m looking forward to this next chapter of the pod. I want us to connect, hang out and learn from each other. I'm rebooting without putting any pressure on myself. I’m not setting any specific goals on how many episodes there will be and when they will be released. I’m giving myself grace. I’m giving myself permission to be creative in the medium I love the most without getting all caught up in (what I know first hand) it takes to build a successful podcast.
But really, isn’t the definition of success relative?
I look forward to reuniting with some old friends from the podcast audience. I’m beyond giddy with anticipation of meeting the new friends I’ll make along the way.
I’ll sign off with one of my fav quotes that is one of my own. The life we create is based on the choices we make. Let’s make choices that bring us love, light and joy and if we don’t- let’s ask for the courage to embrace the detours.
Cheers to what’s possible!
Traci
Did you know that keeping traumas unresolved can result in lowering expectations of how others should treat us? It is not an easy process to face our early childhood traumas. That’s why it’s important to create a safe space where you can share whatever it is that you need to share. And no matter how difficult the healing process is, feeling stuck in your own life is always worse. Tune in to this episode of Journey to There to hear the experiences and wisdom of Tambry Harris, a spiritual and life coach who went through the process of peeling the layers of trauma and now is helping others do the same thing and get to the other side where we feel loved and free. In This Episode: * [03:00] How childhood abuse influenced Tambry’s adult life. * [08:15] The importance of having someone to share your fears with. * [10:28] How does shame affect us in keeping secrets? * [13:30] Tambry had a sense of not being worthy for a long time. Here’s how she understood where this feeling came from. * [15:30] How keeping traumas unresolved can result in lowering expectations of how others should treat us? * [18:40] Where to start the healing process when we feel stuck? * [25:00] People pleasers tend to surround themselves with “predators” who will take advantage of them. * [28:10] The importance of slowing down and paying attention to what is happening inside of our bodies and minds.
Key Takeaways: * It’s really helpful to have someone you can be vulnerable with, no matter what it is that you need to share. * We need to talk about our traumas and what hurt us because it’s the only way we'll understand it and finally let it go. * You deserve to be loved. You need to claim it. * It takes a lot of courage to face your fears, but the freedom on the other side is always worth it.

Have you heard of Enneagrams? Ever been curious about your Enneagram Number? Denee King, Host of the Love Thy Number Podcast tells us how the discovery of her number was a game changer for her personally & professionally. Bonus...She gives me the skinny on my number and how has significantly influenced my life choices!
An Invitation to Listen from my guest Denee...
When I was introduced to the Enneagram almost 10 years ago I began to find answers to some of my own questions and it was absolutely liberating! I learned I wasn’t broken or heartless but that I process thinking from a different perspective than many others. I realized my ability (see how I put a positive spin on that? :-) to move, with lightning speed, from one great idea to the next didn’t mean I had ADHD or was scatterbrained! All those revelations just meant I was hard-wired for excitement and variety and I could now learn how to grow into the healthiest form of myself. Awareness became my greatest gift.
I discovered the world of personality types and found a common thread with others who had my same fears and motivations. Learning the way other types process thoughts and emotions has helped me bridge the language barrier. That’s really what our ‘type’ is: it’s our native language. But trying to have relationship with those who speak a different language requires effort and a lot of love. This is the true beauty of the Enneagram. It’s a tool to help us know ourselves and, in doing so, we can know others…to love ourselves so we can share love with others.
I make a fantastic lemon raspberry cake and a banana pudding that is to die for! If you’re visiting our home that might be all you need to know about me. :-)
In this episode:
We're not taught about money. Whether male or female, where we're not taught in school. We're usually not taught at home so we don't have a foundation on which to really play some competence.
What we're getting taught about money is what we're told and what we're shown usually by our parents. We either do what our parents did, which could be good or bad, or we did the exact opposite.
Did you know 90 percent of women have a fear that they're going to end up homeless and be a bag lady? The time is now to change women’s perception around money and the idea of shame.
We can actually save too much. This can happen when we’re saving or we're not spending and the reason is coming from a place of fear or scarcity or that we don't feel secure.
We've got to figure out what our triggers are, what is that story that we're telling ourselves around money and change that, because just getting out of debt or figure out a budget isn't enough. That's why athletes go bankrupt. That's why millionaire winners lose all their money. And that's why the average American racks up all their debt, pays it off, and then racks it back up again is because we're only treating the symptoms. We're not treating the issue, which is our mindset in this story we tell ourselves.
Go out and try and find the best way to educate and inform yourself about money.
Takeaways:
What I find is, we really like to avoid looking at our money. It's there's shame around it. There's guilt. We are brilliant, smart women that have 15 million other things that we need to do. So looking at our numbers kind of as the last thing that we want to do. So what I encourage someone to do is sit down at the end of the day without distractions. Have a glass of wine or three. And then really think about what was a really tough money experience that you went through and just write it all out. Write down all the details. No. Why did you go through this? What did you learn from it and what can you do differently? And I think by just facing some of these things a little bit at a time, you'll start to release that guilt and shame around these different money experiences.
You need to really look at who you're taking money advice from. Like dating advice. You're not going to ask for dating advice from your friend that's been divorced seven times and has a string of first dates. So just like with your money, you don't want to ask somebody that you know is living paycheck to paycheck, drowning in debt and doesn't know how they're going to pay their next bill.
Note to Self: Forgive yourself for you money mistakes. The shame is not serving you.

Healing modalities that help learn how to master yourself from the inside out and heal yourself from the inside out
Mindlessness if effort. You want to it because it feels so good to do it
One of the things that is so critical to self care and to really understanding the heart is is looking at the science behind the fact we are not this separate thing. Scientists like to break us into two in the healthcare world. We're not a brain and a body. We're not a brain and emotions and a body. We are all one integrated human that evolved to this place in order to have emotions for a purpose and we have you know we our body tell it talks to us all of the time
Figure out the trigger that leads to bad behavior and then replace the behavior to a new and more positive behavior.

MEET BRANDY AMIDON
It’s not every day that you meet a woman who was a CFO before the age of 30. A councilwoman by age 27. And the first female mayor of her hometown by age 35. And now? She's Co-President of the Company she CFO's.
An achiever by nature, Brandy earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from North Greenville University in two and a half years – with honors. After graduation, Brandy began a career in corporate banking and taxation, but soon found herself longing for more personal connection. She loved what she was doing, but wanted to find a way to integrate a human element into her work. Tapping her entrepreneurial spirit, Brandy began working with small businesses (including Brains On Fire), as a for-hire CFO. She helped alleviate the burdens of money management and financial planning for small business owners so they could focus their energy on what they were good at – leading a team, serving their clients and running a company.
If CFO-ing wasn’t enough, Brandy has always been passionate about paying it forward, giving back and improving the world around her – starting with her hometown. In 2009, she ran for City Council in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Her win made her the youngest councilwoman in the city’s history. Brandy served three terms on City Council, during which time she advocated for local businesses, promoted the city’s sustainable growth, championed an environmental wellness program and provided budgetary guidance to ensure the city’s long-term viability. In 2018, Brandy was elected Mayor, becoming the first female mayor in Travelers Rest’s over 100 year history.
And did we mention she does all of this around her at-home roles of wife and mom?

Understanding Power and the 125-400 listening rule
This is the first ingredient in the recipe of deep listening. The reason why it’s critical to pay attention and listen completely including the pauses, the silence and thoughtful moments in a discussion is because of the simple maths between speaking and hearing.
Although you can think at 400 words per minute, you can only speak at between 125-175 words per minute. (Carver, Johnson, & Friedman, 1970).

Relationship Magic; Waking Up Together
Guy reveals a BIG secret that is not in his “BIO” about his experiences in the music industry.
The most abundant resource on this planet is our relationships.
How patterns impact our relationships.
Relationships are the basis of the important revelations we have about ourselves.
Love is far more important than my past.
Love is present.
Love does not harm another human being.
Love does not bring back old issues to prove they exist.
When we fight with our significant others it is because we are both in pain.
It’s the pain that picks the fight.
You are not responsible for my feelings.
The real addiction is to the false sense of self.
When it comes to workaholism...We become slaves to the accolades. Our false sense of self is what turns us into the slaves and takes what we love and turn it into our own prisons.
Why do we feel alone?
Have you ever felt alone when you are inside a relationship?
Traci's Takeaways:
The story is the same the details are different...Until you recognize how to change the patterns.

Relationships get stale because we stop communicating with each other about the truth that has brought us together to begin with.

Takeaway:
There is no better way to problem solve than to bounce ideas off someone else and get their perspective. If you don't have a business partner then seek out an accountability partner or find other business entrepreneurs in your same industry or of a similar age and exchanges ideas for creative business solutions.
How you feel is not a result of what other people are doing it's all about how you are processing what other people are doing and then internalizing it. Pay attention to you are saying in your head about yourself and about other people. Feelings are not always factual.

Living simply is not always easy. It is not a destination it is a journey. Before you even begin to simplify you will need to identify how you define simple, where your life is complicated and explore why you seek simplicity in the first place.
Humans have the tendency to over complicate the simple.
About 5% to 7% of adults in the U.S. are pursuing some form of voluntary simplicity, according to Gerald Celente, director of the Trends Research Institute in New York.
Simple is relative. Everyone’s definition is different.
You need to know where your life is complicated before you can simplify it.
How do you know when enough is enough?
What does embracing simplicity mean to you?
Why are you seeking simplicity?
What are some steps large or small you can take to live more simply?
How is your debt load? In a study published in 2000 in the journal Social Science & Medicine, researchers from Ohio State University and the University of Alabama found that people with a high ratio of credit card debt to income were in worse physical health than those with less debt.
Here’s a thought...
If you are willing to honor the four agreements as outlined by don Miguel Ruiz then your life is immediately more simple.
Takeaways:
Consolidate emails- Minimize multiple emails by using the Google Apps feature lets you use an alias feature so you can consolidate them.
Purse in a Purse - Ladies, Buy a small purse that holds your cash, credit cards, phone and a lipstick. You can switch purses quickly and make sure you have everything on the go.
Time block your days so all of your in=person or phone meetings are in all on the same day or half of a day and reserve the other day to focus on administrative or other focused work.
In a study published in 2000 in the journal Social Science & Medicine, researchers from Ohio State University and the University of Alabama found that people with a high ratio of credit card debt to income were in worse physical health than those with less debt.
If you don’t have the cash flow – it is a no go.

Can I ask you a question?
Traci sits down to do her morning journal and an episode is born! It starts with a conversation with herself and then evolves into a fun experiment for you! Listen as she reads out loud from her journal pages and then proposes...Can I ask you a question?
IN THIS EPISODE:
I have a thought provoking but fine experiment for you to try. How I came about this experiment was actually a happy accident. You may know that part of my new activities I put it into my schedule this year includes writing and journaling 3 pages every morning before I check my email
This morning when I went to do my page is something fascinating happened and I thought I would share it with you and see if you want to give it a try and see if you've found it to be as insightful as I did. When I do these pages I just sit down and the are completely blank. I just write the first thing that comes to my mind. This morning the first thing that came to my mind was... Can I ask you a question? which is feels a little odd when you're writing that and you're in THE ONLY ONE you're talking to! But I went with it because it was the first thing that came to my mind, right?
I thought I might read you my actual journal entry based on the fact that I prompted myself with...Can I ask you a question. Now, don't get scared about getting inside of my head. It's not as dangerous of a place as you might think! Here we go. I write,
Can I ask you a question? What would happen if you release the fear of any outcome?
And then did whatever you wanted to do with your time?
How would you spend it?
Would you still work as much as you do?
Or would you play more? What does play look like to you?
Do you know how to play?
Would you play creatively? like go to a studio and play? Would you make art? Would you paint? Would you make jewelry? Would you put beads on canvas? Would you write what would you write about your experiences?
What is the most profound experience that comes to mind? Is it painful? Has the pain fully healed? How could you heal it further? Can your pain help others avoid pain? Can it help them walk through it more swiftly more thoughtfully with a new perspective?
As pause here. I realize I can see the funnel of what's happening in this most unexpected experience.
My exercise of doing this first brought me back to dead center of an issue I struggle with constantly. How to play was the first thing that came up in the stream of consciousness. Yet as I kept asking myself the questions I expose the layers of what was really most important to me. Where I would spend my time and how I would spend it. What evolved out of the process was I would spend the time creating whether it is writing or art or even strategy in business.
I create with the sole purpose of healing my painful moments or so I can help someone else have a new perspective on their painful experiences or just even to give insight on how to avoid them altogether.
And then…. I realize I AM doing what my soul craves.
I am using my voice my stories my lessons on this show.
Sharing them on this show which is really what feels like play to me. Problem solved in three pages or less. There you have it!
How you spend your time is probably one of the most important questions you can ask yourself. Second only to... how would you spend it differently?
Taking a look at how you spend it differently presents an area where you could either feel disconnected void or seeking something soothing to heal an avoidance which opens up the question... Why don't you spend your time on this one area you crave so much? Is it based on fear? What is driving the fear? When you figure out the one thing that you need or want to do more of is also the one thing you do not know how to do. Literally, figuratively, physically, or emotionally dont know how to do.
Would you ask for help?
Have you already figured it out. When you think about this does an emotional connection rise up with you and with this new idea that so strong telling you what it is that you want for yourself could this feeling desire craving lead to helping others regardless of the answers that you get from this fine. And trust me and it's fun experience. The most important part of it all is to start asking yourself these questions.

Well...That's Awkward.
Having those difficult conversations help take care of you, your finances and your friendships!
We teach people how to treat us whether it is in how we run our business, choose our relationships or maintain our boundaries.
There are choices in how we choose to react to other people’s comments and opinions.
A surefire tip on how not to take things personally.
Leave toxic relationships. Don’t try to change them. It won’t work. Period.
What is the one question that shuts down “scope creep”? How would you like to pay for that?
Have you ever considered using a an autoresponder email as a response to all of your emails instead of just using it when you are on vacation?
There are things in relationships that you have to discuss and if you don't discuss them you are opening up yourself to things happen like resentments and expectations which lead to you getting disappointed.
Traci teaches Russ the appropriate way to apologize. HINT: If you use the word ‘but’ after the “I’m Sorry” it negates the apology.
Takeaways:
Have the awkward conversation.
Don’t start a project without having the full scope of it.
Even if it is a small change to the scope. Charge the client so you set the precedent at the beginning of the relationship.
If you set specific office hours. Stick to them or other people will not respect them.

Traci opens up raw, unedited and solo about how her reflections on last year led her to realize how joy matters. YOUR joy matters.
You'll hear true confessions, requests for accountability and how she plans to stay focused on her joy this year.
: [00:00:23] I guess I've been doing a lot of thinking. It's that time of year of course with the whole New Year's kicking off a new year often means reflection and sometimes even big commitments to change. I am not a fan so much of the resolutions but I do find that it is a great time to just take a look at what I can celebrate as accomplishments for the past year and also where I could tweak here and there for improvement. But you know this can be a slippery slope for me I need to be mindful that it's not all about what I can do better but more about recognizing what I did do well and recognizing also some areas where I can open up for more learning more play for sure and most importantly more joy. I think the message that I hear resonating with me in these last end of the year last year and first two weeks of this year so far is that joy matters because really Joy does matter.
: [00:01:37] And this is an awareness which hasn't always come easy for me for several reasons.
: [00:01:41] I think the primary one is I'm almost always focused on thinking about how much YOUR joy matters and it does... it really, really does in fact as you know I've built my business around working with people to help them find sustain and maintain joy in their lives and in their work. But I've also compromised areas of my life in regrettable ways by putting joy of others before my own. Ok… but here's the thing. This was not an act of martyrdom. Oh no. It usually occurred because I was never 100 percent sure where the source of my happiness and fulfillment was actually originating. I would confuse my happiness with feeling successful and most definitely derived fulfillment from the accomplishment that drove the successes. Of course I've had things in my life I've enjoyed. I mean, don't get me wrong but I could never remember exactly what those things were when it came time to actually go out and really enjoy them. The times I did take, as we've talked about a lot on the show, to do something joyful or fun were often tainted by my mind being located somewhere other than where my body was at the moment. But never fear… because my hands were always adept at knowing exactly where my phone was. Russ has often taunted me that if he wants to see a full meltdown then all he needs to do is just have my phone and I guess (True Confessions) he's right.
: [00:03:25] I want to proclaim that most of these challenges are behind me and I feel truthful, sincere and authentic in saying that today as I have reflected on 2017 I recognized real progress. In the past, it was more about the struggle than appreciating the experiences and thank goodness this year was definitely more about the experiences than the struggle to appreciate them. For me this is something to celebrate. It began by finally being able to identify what I liked to do for play. I always talk about, “You have to have awareness before you can have change. In order to have sustainable change you have to have action.” I had to really begin by identifying what it is I even really liked to do, how I like to create and most definitely identify the people I want to play with in creative ways. This meant I needed to show up in personal relationships and the key to that is they needed to be relationships that were not founded on work. That's hard for me because I love my work so much and I love the people I work with and we end up spending so much time together that friendships evolve.
: [00:04:55] In life we need to have friends outside of our jobs and our business. I had to put down the phone to check the e-mail. Then I had to pick it up to reach out which is a little bit of an oxymoron. But if you think about it …you can't reach out unless you reach out and these days phone and text is probably the best way to do that. I had to really manage the balance between using the phone as a technology tool for work but also using it as a lifeline to reach out not only just in terms of challenges or when I was feeling down or upset but also when things were good. You know someone once told me that it's always better to reach out when things are good because you get more comfortable doing that. So then, God forbid if there was anything wrong or that you needed somebody, then you would already be comfortable picking up that 100-pound cement phone. My challenge is if I have to ask for what I needed then I'd actually probably rather die than let you know I need something. But I’m making progress in that area as well.
: [00:06:09] Taking action in these areas has given me the ability to find out what was working for me and what wasn't. But more importantly, it gave me clarity to understand how vital it was, and has been, to keep doing the things that are working. So if you catch up to where I am now? I will say that I give myself a B plus on my 2017 reflection versus my 2018 identifying things for myself that are joyful and goals and things that I want. I say B plus because when I very first went to start the exercise over the New Year holiday, I began with the reflecting and all of a sudden I found myself in this yucky negative place. For example, last year I launched a new program offering in my business. I had a goal that I wanted to get ten new clients in this particular program and just as a reminder to myself more than anything, I just want to say that it was a brand new, never promoted, never executed, never worked on, brand new, stone cold launch of a program that was not my most inexpensive program. In my goal of getting 10 new people I thought it was attainable although I knew it was aggressive.
: [00:07:58] When I'm doing my reflecting I've realized I was actually beating myself up because I didn't get 10 and I did not get 10. I reviewed all the numbers and I realized I got eight.
: [00:08:15] Hello… eight out of ten. And also as a result of getting the new business and working so hard on the new program overall revenues were up seriously like 72 percent or more. I was actually excited and can celebrate the fact that I can access these numbers and calculate these performance increases and increase in the number of business clients because I had actually stayed true to my 2017 goal of having all of my financials, books and things like that all caught up and current as opposed to doing it all at once before taxes. I have to admit has been the case. So shout out to me! I had to celebrate these things. I got eight new clients, my revenue was up and I had all my financials at my fingertips to prove it. I have to say when I was looking at all of this and dove immediately to the negative and then pulled myself out by flipping it and looking at the positive, I could hear a dear friend and mentor’s voice in my head saying, “Hey Traci when you change the way you look at things; the things you look at change.”
: [00:09:37] They certainly did. I encourage you this year to really take a look at the way you look at things. If you're feeling that heavy drudge of I shoulda, woulda, coulda. I didn't but I was gonna then pause in that moment and say, “Hey wait! I did do this or I have done this or I made progress here.” Take a moment to really appreciate in that moment. I will say one of the things I think I took away from the experience that was so valuable was that I have a huge awareness now that in 2018, I don't want to wait until the end of the year to celebrate all that I have accomplished. I am making and taking time to touch base with myself on a weekly basis. I’m really going to take a look at what I have accomplished and celebrate it. I’m also going to adjust my course by reviewing and staying on track so that it's easier to course correct than it is to go back and have to do a U turn or realize you've jumped off a cliff but it's too late because you've already jumped! I'm going to share with you before we wrap up something you might find interesting and in even if you don't guess what you're going to hear it. J
: [00:11:14] Because I need to say some of the things that I want to be accountable to for myself this year.
: [00:11:23] And I can assure you that if I do these things for myself personally, I am going to show up way better for you this year. And I am so grateful and so appreciative of your support and your listening and your feedback and your comments and all kinds of fun stuff that you do with us when interacting with our show.
: [00:11:47] This year instead of talking about my business goals. I really wanted to take a few minutes and just hit the highlights of some of my personal goals this year and be really accountable for that. As we go throughout the year I can give you updates. Here we go. Probably my biggest and most exciting personal goal this year is that I have committed to training and running a half marathon. I’ve done one before but it's been almost eight years. This year I'm turning 50. March 31st. I'm not really freaked out about 50 but I felt like if I could do the half on April the 15th. Provided that I can sustain my physical well-being. I plan to do that for myself for my fiftieth birthday.
I discovered over the holidays that reading fiction at night was actually really good for me. It helped me decompress and check out and kept me from being on my phone or on Facebook. So I'm going to do more fiction reading at night. No business books, no tips and tricks of social media or how to grow your business. It's all going to be about fiction.
I am going to get all of my health checkups. Yes, I know. Don't judge me. I was very bad about that last year and maybe even the year before… but this year… I'm doing all of the mammograms, colonoscopies and physicals… all those things. Welcome to 50!
I proclaimed that I want to write more handwritten notes and not necessarily just thank you notes but just writing notes to people in general because I just love it so much.
I realized when I got all the holiday cards that is just so fun to get something in the mail that is not a bill. So, I'm going to send out more handwritten.
: [00:13:57] If you want one from me please e-mail us your address at Traci@journeytoThere.com. You can email me there and I will be more than happy to send you a handwritten note.
I want to and I hope this might resonate with you as something for you to do this year. I want to say thank you to myself. As odd as that may sound at first, just think about it. I really want to say thank you to myself because I push myself. I'm hard on myself. I exhaust myself.
: [00:14:38] I just really, really, really want to recognize and have gratitude for and thank myself for the things that I do for myself in order for me to even be able to do what it is that I do. I love what it is that I do. I'm always full of gratitude to thank others and appreciate others. But this year I'm going to say thank you to myself. It comes down to the fact that 2017 was the year I discovered my joy mattered. And it does. My joy matters and your joy matters. Think about how will you find joy this year.

Money is still the number one subject people don't talk about. It's the last topic in any relationship; whether it's with your husband, wives, significant other or even your friends and family, even your closest loved ones.
Get an education and learn tools so it makes that conversation more easy to have and so you feel more confident having it.
We're all human. We all have money. We all have to learn how to be with money. There's this misconception that if you're facing a money challenge or concern you're the only one going through it.
Financial planning is not an age specific situation. Even if you didn't do this planning from the start in your early 20s you can still rewrite your story.
There's a misconception that you only do financial planning when you have a certain amount of income or a certain amount of assets. It's not true.
Start to see your money as a relationship that you're going to have for the rest of your life. It takes a little pressure off and hopefully a lot of anxiety and stress off the table because you're just going to treat it like any relationship that goes through ups and downs. You're constantly working on it. How do you improve it? How do you make it better? We all need to remember it's not the destination it's the journey.
Takeaway:
Go on a weekly money date. Take time once a week to recap what’s coming in & what’s going out to stay on budget.
Hire somebody you like and trust that you feel can help you execute on your financial goals.
Get over yourself and ask for help if you need it.

No wonder then that another poll showed 40 percent of Americans of all ages check their phones within five minutes of waking. By the time they've brushed their teeth, more than 80 percent of people have grabbed their gadgets. The New media rules. There are no rules. And if you don't evolve with how things are changing you will get left behind.
Journey to There is throwing down a challenge! There should be a national authentic media day where all of the all of the anchors and all of the co-hosts all of the people on ABC NBC, Fox News and CNN wake up in the morning, brush their teeth, get in their car go on camera raw and unedited. No Makeup- No Stylists. We dare you to do that!
We are all walking around with too many expectations of people to meet us where we were versus just respecting where they are.
Truth vs Training is so important to break down because whether you're getting ready to be on CNN, do a Facebook video or just walk into a room of peers at church or a movie theater or whatever. We all have a tendency to want to put on this mask of what we think other people feel like we should be like, act like, walk like and talk like.
A revealing story on how Peter Shankman, founder of HARO (Help A Reporter Out) revealed a huge disappointment to social media and gained 10,000 new followers.
What is your truth vs your training when it comes to showing up for traditions?
How do you respond to those that have non traditional marriages, careers and/or lifestyles? Are those reactions about them or based on a struggle going on inside of you?
Stand in your truth. Question Everything.
Click here to watch my highly (self- critiqued) interview with Ashley Sanders!
Takeaway:
Break the traditions that no longer work for you.
Be willing to inspire change
Really pay attention to the energy of the environment that you're in. If you're going through the motions of something and feel that as a physical experience...Allow yourself to pause in the moment and identify the fact that is your truth. You do not want to be there or in that experience. Remember that feeling for the next time so the next time it happens you can make a different decision.
When you're going into any type of situation or redundancy of a tradition or anything that is occurring where you can literally feel the “life being sucked out of you” or that energy drain or just feeling like tired and exhausted. Pay attention to what your circumstances are and your environment is around when that feeling occurs and make a conscious decision not to recreate that scenario again.

Traci and Russ interview Mary Shores, entrepreneur and author of the book Conscious Communications; Your Step-by-Step Guide to Harnessing the Power of Your Words to Change Your Mind, Your Choices, and Your Life.
In this episode:
Based on two decades of research, Mary Shores teaches how you can create new neural pathways by changing your words.
Gratitude is a state of mind that arises when you affirm good things in your life that come from outside yourself. When people in great numbers choose to practice gratitude, the cumulative force can help create the kind of world we all hope for.
Whether we realize it or not, the words we use dictate and control our lives. The persistent messages we repeat can frame our thoughts and trap us into a mind-set that is difficult to break. This mind-set often manifests itself with statements like “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” and “I’ll never find the [insert the blank] I want.” Many times, we don’t stop to consider the profound impact that these negative, limiting words have on our mentality, life choices, and the path of possibility that we manifest.
After gathering years of research and personal experience with how words affect individuals mentally and emotionally, business owner and communications specialist Mary Shores realized that there is a life-changing theme persistent throughout ancient traditions and spiritual foundations that is supported by scientific professionals. They all agree on one recurring truth: Words have the power to create and transform.
Mary took her discoveries and created easy-to-follow, step-by-step practices that can transform each area of your life. Based on two decades of research, Mary teaches how you can create new neural pathways simply by changing your words. You can align your words, thoughts, and actions to produce the results you want. Conscious Communications can show you how!
Conscious Communications is your guide to creating a life in alignment with your dreams and desires. With thoroughly tested exercises, research, advice, and personal stories, you will begin to experience the tremendous impact of words and how to utilize the right ones to unleash and unlock the power to create a new reality.
Traci DeForge Takeaway:
The Zen 10:
Yoga • Meditation • Relaxing Bath • Social Media Fast • Healing Body Work • Deep Breathing • Exercise • Laughter • Heart Hugs • Sleep For 8 Hours A Night
This is a list of ten ways to support your nervous system, and they all do essentially the same thing: each will reduce your stress, provide an overall increase in happiness and help with issues in the tissues, targeting the neurons and chemicals in your brain and getting them to work for you.
You’re going to pick three:
One that you will commit to doing every day,
One that you will commit to doing once a week
One that you will commit to doing once a month.
QUOTES:
“The life you create is based on the choices that you make.” - Traci DeForge

Definition of Willpower and Willingness
will·pow·er
ˈwilˌpou(ə)r/
noun
will·ing·ness
ˈwiliNGnəs/
noun
Willpower vs Willingness: Can you have one without the other?
Is there an unlimited amount of willpower?
If willpower isn't limited why do we feel depleted and how can we tap into that potential endless supply of energy?
Choose your perspective: Research shows you may feel wiped out from a task you perceive as work but if the activity is shifted to a fun activity accomplishing the same goal your energy goes up!
Find out what dancing and willpower have in common.
Recent studies suggest it may be possible to choose how your willpower works for yourself. It is about shifting your idea around the concept in general.
Will I do it? Or I will do this. Which is your perspective?
Learn the key to creating more intrinsic motivation.
Setting your mind on a goal may be counterproductive. Instead, think of the future as an open question.
An interesting study by Ibrahim Senay of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign lends scientific support to the recovery concepts of surrender and openness. He found that people who kept their minds open (“Will I do this?”) were more goal-directed and more motivated than the people who firmly declared their objective (“I will do this”). Having the freedom of choice seemed to create more intrinsic motivation—
Why do you act differently when you believe willpower is unlimited? You procrastinate less and prepare more efficiently. You’re more likely to view solving a challenging problem as a motivating experience, instead of an exhausting one. If a task goes more smoothly because of better preparation, it’s probably easier to keep that good momentum going.
Michael Inzlicht, a researcher at the University of Toronto, explains that self-control crises happen when two of your goals conflict. Your emotional response determines your choice. It’s not that you’re completely unable to resist the pint of rocky road ice cream in the freezer. It’s more likely that losing 10 pounds by swimsuit season is a less valuable goal to you than a creamy treat right now.
Traci's Takeaways from this show:
Have the willingness to reach out and ask for help when struggling with any addiction. Willpower is not the solution.

Traci's Takeaways from this show:
Find another way to open a conversation! Instead of asking people what they do..ask them are you working on any fun projects? Have you traveled anywhere interesting lately?
Willie Nelson - Willie initially came to fame in the early 1960s as a songwriter rather than as a singer. However he had actually been recording since 1957, with no more than local success at best.
Steve Albani - Steven “Steve” Albini is an American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, audio engineer and music journalist. He was a member of Big Black, Rapeman and Flour, and is a member of Shellac.

The big buzzword ‘catch phrase’ is, “live your truth”. Traci tells her account of how she was presented with here own a-ha on facing your truth in the most uncomfortable way…..
You can’t live your truth if you are disillusioned by it.
Facing facts about yourself is tough but if you are open to hearing it you will be better for it.
When you hear the truth -as tough as it may be to hear- you know it is true. You feel the truth in your gut.
You are not what you do – You are defined by who you are not what you do.
There is the manager side of you and the creative worker side of you. Many have an unawakened manager and a very tired creative worker.
Redefine your definition of solitude and isolation.
Takeaways from this show:
Say it. Write it. Leave it – when things are stressing you out or stuck in a loop in your head… say it to someone outloud. Write it down and then… leave it ALONE.
Systems can be overwhelming take small steps first and a smoother transition will present itself as things settle out.

If you buried a time capsule 10 years ago that contained items of who you were and what you wanted to become and then opened it ….What would it say about the person you are today.
A time capsule is a historic cache of goods or information, usually intended as a method of communication with future people and to help future archaeologists, anthropologists, or historians.
Today’s show layout a sequence of events ranging from Chipolte ads to Fortune Cookies!
The time is below so you can keep track of all the twists and turns!
Friday: Saw a video of Danielle LaPorte whom I met as she was just getting her start in the “guru space” in 2010, she being interviewed by a “new-gu”. My first response was envy shortly followed up by a flogging session since it was not me interviewing her.
Saturday: I was restless so I went to my Get Your Muse On warehouse to be around some creativity. Instead of painting, I cleaned out my desk drawer and found an article I wrote for a magazine in 2005… It felt like I opened a time capsule and yet it was validating at the same time.
Saturday Evening: I watched the documentary Losing site of the shore. The message from 4 ladies crossing the Pacific by rowing was “Everybody has their own Pacific to cross.”
Sunday: I got a fortune cookie that said “Your original ideas will bring well-deserved recognition…
Monday: I had a big a-ha…. 2005 wasn’t my time. How to create sustainable long-term change and valuing time is still my message but I had to cross my own ‘pacific’ of getting up and getting knocked down again to really have the message translate in my most authentic way.
Now is my time.
Takeaways from this show:
Create a reflection time capsule. Take a moment to sit and write about where you were ten years ago, five years ago, one year ago. Are you on your intended path? Are you staying true to your truth and person you wanted to become?
Willingness is the key to create change. The word yes does not always equate willingness. Say NO to the people, places and things blocking the path to becoming the you you’ve always wanted to be.

It’s not about the person; It’s about the solution: Negotiations can be tricky. You can fight the person or you can fight for the solution.
What were the most memorable details about your last negotiation? Maybe it was discussing a promotion with your boss, a big contract for your business or a chat with your 17-year-old about taking out the car.
Did you feel like it was a win-win?
According to Getting to Yes, by Roger Fisher, William Ury and Bruce Patton. Don’t fight the person; fight for the solution.
Negotiations often fail because things get personal. Make your goal to find a solution. If you let things get personal it can cause you to lose sight of your desired outcome.
Add in the personal bombshells like “You’re crazy” or using words like ‘never’ and ‘always’ will trigger emotional responses rather than helpful suggestions
Negotiate only with facts and come from a place of creating value and you will close the distance between you and your adversary.
Defeating the person “across the table” is not always winning.
Traci's Takeaways:
Negotiations often fail when personal feelings get involved. Stay focused on the solution.

What would be possible if we put in 100% of or efforts and let go to any attachment of the outcome?
Imagine what would be possible if you moved forward with ideas, decisions, confrontations without any emotional attachment or fear around the outcome?
We are only responsible for our actions in any situations.
Outcomes are almost always out of our control.
No action? No chance of an outcome.
To truly let go of attachment you have to be willing to let go of the ideas of the outcome. attachments are ideas, not the thing itself.
Deepak Chopra explain the concept of letting go by using the metaphor of a gardener. The gardener plants the seed and gives the seed all it needs to survive but he doesn’t go and dig it up every day to see if it has grown. The gardener is clear about the outcome he desires, he does the work required but then he lets go or detaches himself from the outcome.
Takeaways From This Episode:
See every bump in your road as a learning experience. You will have good days and bad days. the bad days can end up being amazing gifts, if you learn from them.
Believe that every experience can make you stronger – Bad things can temporarily deflate you, but they don’t have to define you.
