Getting back on schedule brings us to September 24, 2016, where I invaded the program I Ieft four months earlier to restore sanity, constitutional conservatism, and balance to a show that had, and has, lacked all three ever since (except for the week I guest hosted again a little over a year later).

The Ides of March saw Barack Obama nominate D.C. Circuit Court Judge Merrick Garland as his judicial supremacist trojan horse replacement for the late Justice Antonin Scalia, but that didn't obligate the Senate Republican majority to give him confirmation hearings; and the Constitution was designed to protect us from the Trumps of the world, and back then everybody - EVERYBODY - believed it would.

Following a mere 671 hour intermission this time, a sneak preview of Trumplican incompetence and dysfunction on Capitol Hill; Trump winning the GOP nomination was disastrous, but NeverTrumpers still could not change the rules after the fact to try and block him; and Ted Cruz's recruitment of uncommitted GOP delegates provided hope that such impermissible actions would prove unnecessary.

"I think there are two rifts, actually. One is within the party. I think George W. Bush is reported to have worried that he might be the last Republican president. And he understood, I think, that there were elements in the party which were really completely at odds with what it is to be a conservative; that there was this populist, nativist element there, which Trump has been effective at tapping. Then, there’s his Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, who basically said not to listen to Trump, because he lies."

"Barack Obama made a vow to the American public: If Syria’s Bashar al Assad used chemical weapons on his own people, America would get involved. He drew, in his own words, a red line. Following that vow, there was a chemical attack on Syrians by Assad’s regime. Obama’s response? Nothing.

"In recent days, Assad’s regime unleashed a horrifying chemical attack on his own citizens. The images have haunted social media in recent days, and President Donald Trump said it was absolutely unacceptable.

One of the arguments for Trump — the argument heard most often on talk radio and on the dopier of the cable-news programs — was this: Even where Republicans enjoy theoretical political superiority in Washington, they do not get very much done, because the Establishment, which is made up of moderates who are too eager to compromise with Democrats, subverts the actual conservatives in the Republican caucus. This was, we were told, the great sin of John Boehner and of Paul Ryan — but with a fire-breathing, Earth-shaking President Trump on the case, Republicans would rediscover their spines and arise to victory and splendor. What is falling into place in Washington right now is something close to the opposite of that.

By refusing, over and over again, to back down from Trump’s original, farfetched charge, his administration has inflicted a lot of completely unnecessary damage upon itself, and even upon the so-called special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. This is what happens when the White House prioritizes winning the daily news cycle above all else. This is the natural result of an amazingly shortsighted approach to governing.

Donald Trump pushed the passage of a health care bill he didn’t understand: TrumpCare, which rejected the free market, tinkered around the edges of the problem, and assumed that government central planning is the answer. This bill treated insurance as the primary way to get health care, substituted lawmakers’ judgments for that of the market as to how to price policies, and sustained an unsustainable path of central planning. Basically, the First Five Year Health Care Plan was determined a failure, so Trump tried to give us a Second Five Year Health Care Plan. And, praise the LORD, it went down in Hindenbergian flames....for now.

Fewer than sixty days. That’s how long Donald Trump’s presidency is, and it feels a whole lot longer. Chaos is the order of the day for the Trump administration, and much of it exists because of the ringleader of this gang that couldn’t shoot straight – President Trump.

President Trump’s inability to control his impulses, whether he’s at a rally or on Twitter, isn’t isolated to the coverage he gets in the press. The crap flows downhill and eventually covers the feet of Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer who are forced to go on television or before the White House press corps and make idiots of themselves.

As conservatives fight the efforts of their former party and president to promote Obamacare 2.0 here at home, there are some major problems with the direction in foreign policy of this Trump administration. We can dismiss all reports of liberal policies and leftist personnel emanating from this administration as “fake news” — or we can demand a course correction before this becomes the third term of Obama’s State Department.

Path One is to do something different – to acknowledge the failures of Obamacare, which are massive, and then do a very un-Washington thing and honor commitments made to fully repeal it (which have been numerous), and actually roll back a federal mistake. Then, make a fresh start, with two simple steps. First, freeze Medicaid enrollment immediately and send Medicaid dollars to States with zero strings attached to allow them to innovate and be more effective. Second, increase portability and decrease costs through increased competition, by equalizing the tax treatment between employers and individuals.

If we choose this path, we will, in essence, be saying: Let competitive markets and the States clean up the mess Washington created. Drive down costs through unfettered competition, and increase the number of doctors competing for our business. Cost is the problem. Coverage will naturally increase if costs are lowered and will provide far better health-care options for far more Americans.

Path Two would be business-as-usual, in which we listen to Washington insiders tell us how they are going to construct a health-care system for us. That path is what we were given this week by Donald Trump and the House Republican leadership. That bill, as has been widely observed, is ObamaCare 2.0 – in which the subsidies, regulations, and Medicaid expansion of ObamaCare have been “replaced” with . . . subsidies, regulations, and Medicaid expansion.

There may ultimately be nothing to the Russia story, and Trump’s case for his new travel ban and other actions may be strong. But what he fails to understand is that by embracing conspiracy theories such as the one about Obama, he is fueling a belief that he is out of control. If that belief continues to build, it will further strengthen and embolden the Democrat “resistance,” and it will undermine his ties with congressional Republicans and the anti-anti-Trump conservatives who are ready to oppose progressive attempts to delegitimize his government. Trump’s main problem is not so much his foes in the media or the Democrats but his own character. The struggle that will determine whether he is a successful president is his struggle with himself.

When President Trump delivered a speech to Congress free of the obsessions, insecurities, and intemperate attacks that too often characterize his public persona, he deserved praise. The speech (at last) included some of the necessary civilities that we expect from American leaders. He began by recognizing Black History Month and decrying anti-Semitism. For the first time, in my memory at least, he wove references to our founding and to freedom into his remarks. This accomplished two things: It gave the speech a reassuring tone, and it fit Trump into American traditions instead of in opposition to them. Most of all, though one can quibble about whether this was the proper setting, it did permit President Trump to salute a fallen American, and that too is a welcome departure from some of his earlier disparagements of military heroes.

But let’s keep our heads. It was not a great speech. In fact, from a conservative perspective, while there were some good proposals, it was evidence of how much ground has been lost.

Let’s put this plainly: If Milo’s the poster boy for free speech, then free speech will lose. He’s the perfect foil for social-justice warriors, a living symbol of everything they fight against. His very existence and prominence feed the deception that modern political correctness is the firewall against the worst forms of bigotry. He has the same free-speech rights as any other American. He can and should be able to troll to his heart’s content without fear of government censorship or private riot. But by elevating him even higher, CPAC would have made a serious mistake. CPAC’s invitation told the world that supporting conservative free speech means supporting Milo. If there’s a more effective way to vindicate the social-justice Left, I can’t imagine it.

The president will never entirely convince his political foes that he is not either a would-be dictator or Putin’s stooge. But if he is as smart as he thinks he is, he will treat this early setback as a warning of the dangers of a poorly managed White House and National Security staff rather than just more fodder for his complaints about being treated unfairly. And Trump isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

On one side you have a left wing activist media pursuing an agenda to take down the Trump presidency. On the other you have right wing media that is almost entirely sold out to Trump, and salivating over the chance to land some body blows on the left wing media. Both sides are entrenched and are colluding with their elected counterparts. The left versus right debate is like a gorilla and a bunch of chimpanzees flinging crap at each other.

Hindsight is 20/20, but it was not hard to foresee that the Left would be gunning for Donald Trump, that it wouldn’t matter whether the nominees or the policies would be good or bad, lawful or lawless; that the goal would be to delegitimize him, humiliate him, crush him, using any weapon available. But the White House didn’t see this — or did, and didn’t care. The order should have been crafted with care and precision, the relevant officials properly informed and instructed, an airtight legal defense prepared — but none of these things happened. Was this incompetence or recklessness? There is no third option.

There has been an unwavering level of praise for President Trump coming from the vast majority on the right since he announced that Neil Gorsuch was his nominee to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. It was a great pick, one that is perfect when the overall strategy of the nomination and confirmation process are taken into account. With that said, the mounds of platitudes being lobbed at Trump are as meaningless as the unjustified attacks hurled at him from the left if this is the end of his embrace of Constitutional conservatism and originalism.

This philosophy didn’t need Donald Trump to elevate it into our politics. It has always been there; it’s called conservatism. Pretending that Trump’s European-style nationalism [i.e. National Socialism] can be a vessel for American nationalism risks abandoning the only vision of American greatness that matters in favor of an alternative that can turn from benign to malignant with shocking speed.

The Bannon Way might work on the campaign trail, but it doesn’t translate into good governance. It’s possible — and one must hope — that Trump can learn this fact on the job. But what if he doesn’t? He could put the country in serious peril.

The real challenge for Trump’s negotiating team may be not so much to accomplish those objectives as to keep the U.S.–Mexico relationship from flying off the rails and crashing in a heap of acrimony and recrimination. As it now stands, the Trump administration risks provoking a Mexican populist backlash that could result in an anti-American government led by a Hugo Chávez wannabe taking power in 2018, an outcome that could adversely affect U.S. prosperity and security for years to come.

The word of the day is “polarized.” The New York Times declared that Donald Trump “will take command of a country unsettled after one of the most polarizing periods in modern times.” ABC’s chief political analyst went even further, arguing that the level of division was so bad that our political culture was “much more akin to where we were in 1861.” Writing in the Washington Post, Philip Bump rightly noted that Trump “didn’t create the country’s divisions” before wondering: “Will he heal them?” The answer: No, he will not. He couldn’t heal them if he tried - and he's rushing headlong in the opposite direction.

Here is something for Republicans in Congress to mull: If President Trump, the great businessman, ignites a trade war and tanks the economy, voters will draw the lesson “Those free-market Republicans have done it again. Capitalism equals depression.”

Thus, we see the wearying pattern of the modern Trump media debate. The media call out his falsehoods and decry the erosion of norms. His defenders call out media hypocrisy but then are themselves often incapable of telling the truth. After all, to speak the truth means “giving in.” It means “not fighting.” Our politics is devolving into the pathetic spectacle of liars indignantly calling out liars for lying. Rule-breakers are outraged that other rule-breakers break rules. Norms that could be violated with impunity for “social justice” can’t be violated for “nationalism.” We stick with our tribe, through thick and thin — through truth and lies.

If Barack Obama does not understand why our institutions and the common ground they once represented are in a shambles, he need not look very far for an explanation: He is a man of the Left, and the Left corrupts every institution it touches: the news media, the educational and academic institutions, the cultural institutions, professional organizations, government bureaucracies, everything from National Geographic to the English department at the University of Texas....If you want to understand why Americans have so little faith in institutions that were once granite pillars of respectability, you must understand the Left’s coopting of them.

The shortest honeymoon on record is officially over. Normally, newly elected presidents enjoy a wave of goodwill that allows them to fly high at least through their first hundred days. For Donald Trump, the honeymoon has already come and gone.

It has long been an argument on the right, to include among those who now comprise the Trump-right, that Obama and the Democrats hoped and planned for the public option to eventually become single-payer. What Trump has advocated for years is exactly the same. It really seems his beef with Obamcare is that it isn’t set up the way he thinks it ought to be, rather than the very core political and practical premise of it.

The U.S. is now at a crossroads in dealing with Russian disinformation and manipulation. The country is vulnerable because, with the end of Cold War, political issues have become self- interested and parochial. Paradoxically, this has added a level of viciousness to political conflict that is out of all proportion to the importance of the issues. The result is a vulnerability that hostile foreign powers such as Russia are quick to exploit.

"Politicians, including the president-elect, shouldn’t publicly attack intelligence agencies simply because those agencies reach disagreeable conclusions. No, the U.S. intelligence community isn’t perfect. Yes, there have been times when intelligence was not just flawed, but politicized. But it is unprecedented for the president-elect of the United States to cast aspersions on intelligence conclusions before he’s seen the evidence."

"No good can come of this development. It places pressure on eager-to-please bureaucrats to tell the incoming president what he wants to hear. It antagonizes hostile bureaucrats, incentivizing conflict between the Oval Office and our intelligence agencies. And in so doing, it makes the already-difficult job of obtaining and evaluating intelligence that much harder at a time when the stakes are extraordinarily high."

"It was a shot taken not only at Cruz but also one at Hillary Clinton. After all, it was Trump who said Goldman Sachs had 'total control' over her. The hardcore Donald Trump supporters call people such as Speaker Paul Ryan and Senator Marco Rubio, 'globalist traitors' and shriek about 'globalism' at every turn.

"Yet, the silence is deafening now that Donald Trump is filling his cabinet and other administrative posts with these so-called 'globalists.'"

Trump’s Carrier intervention may just send an equally loud, but nearly opposite signal: that the White House is going to pick winners and losers, that it can be rolled, that industrial policy is back, that Trump cares more about seeming like a savior than sticking to clear and universal rules, and that there is now no major political party in America that rejects crony capitalism as a matter of principle; Conservatives said that the great triumph of the Reagan years was a Democrat party so chastened that it nominated Bill Clinton, the reluctant welfare reformer and free-trader who by his own rueful reckoning pursued the policies of an Eisenhower Republican. The great triumph of the Obama years, for progressives, anyway, is a Republican party so debased that it happily embraces Trump and the "progressive" policies (and racism) of George Wallace; and The totalitarian Left has spent decades cultivating a thousand little Castros throughout the United States, and they gestated one big Trump.

So can all the Branch Trumpidian cultists stop comparing Trump to Ronald Reagan, now?

In a stunning show of cowardice and defeat, Stephen Moore, founder of Club for Growth, has rolled over and abandoned the conservative movement of Reagan for the National Socialist, Big Government party of Trump and has commanded House Republicans to follow suit.

This must be resisted to conservatives' last ounce of strength. I am not now, nor will I ever be, a populist. Evidently, that separates me from a growing number of commentators, including cuckservatives, wistfully engaged in Washington’s latest fad: over-interpreting Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election.

Donald Trump didn't win on Tuesday, Hillary Clinton lost; Republicans won the next two years on Tuesday, Democrats won the next generation beyond it; and other bleak Election 2016 truths that Trumplicans will try to ignore; This was never about making America great. It was always about exalting a king. Figures who were once considered principled conservative voices are now turning fascist in their belief that you abandon principle and board the Trump train, or suffer the fate of traitors to the crown; and Obama targets the media when they print unfavorable news – so does Trump; Obama uses propaganda to control information – Trump will be doing the same; Obama is no fan of the Constitution – neither is Trump; Obama had Valarie Jarret to silence political enemies – Trump has Steve Bannon.

"With a Trump presidency, we can look for the death of the conservative movement in America, or at the very least, conservatives will find themselves marginalized.

"A Trump presidency moves the GOP left-of-center, and those conservative groups, such as Heritage Action for America, who once enjoyed a certain amount of lobbying power with House Republicans will find themselves less able to do so. Republican lawmakers will likely balk at the idea of going against the new Commander-in-Chief, or doing anything to slow his populist roll."

Both are tired. Both face demographic challenges. Both will be forced to adjust from their current iteration, whether they like it or not. Whether they do so in a positive way is anybody’s guess. But here we are in 2016, with both parties facing absurdist candidates who will likely hasten that pending adjustment. Here’s the real kicker: Whoever “wins” this year may just end up winning the first painful wake-up call; and more than previous elections, there is a hope that one of the candidates this year will save America from the other. For those of us in neither camp, the idea is preposterous. It matters little to us who wins Tuesday because both are unfit to lead. Voting Hillary to save us from Trump sounds the same as voting Trump to save us from Hillary. We may be “rescued” from one, but we’ll just end up with evil in a different name.

New revelations about Hillary Clinton’s corruption are unlikely to prevent her coronation; "Americans will only vote for change if it’s presented to them by a candidate they like, can relate to, and trust. This was the case in 1992 with Bill Clinton, and in 2008 with Obama. If Republicans nominate a competent, charismatic, and articulate conservative in 2020 who can efficiently and clearly explain why conservative policies have done and will do more to help poor people especially, but people of all incomes, religions, races, and walks of life, then I believe we’ll have a conservative president in 2020. That battle starts now, and we can do our part as soldiers of the conservative movement by opposing Trump and Hillary and voting for a candidate we can believe in, like Evan McMullin."; Only a re-elected GOP Congress can, and could ever have, stopped President Hillary Clinton; and if only by comparison to Mrs. Clinton and Trump, Obama looks better in American voters’ eyes.

"I just watched the last fifteen months summarized in ninety brutal minutes. There are apparently no depths to which some Republicans won’t sink for Donald Trump, a user and abuser of people, not just women. But his disgusting behavior fits a narrative the Left is spinning about sexuality and masculinity. He’s the poster boy for "toxic masculinity," and every conservative who justifies or excuses him is digging the grave of conservatism even deeper.

Like "Chama-chama-chama-chama-chama-chamleon," guest-hosting gigs come and go. February 21st of last year saw the Director at a speaking engagment in Temecula, California, and Alex Ferguson at an event in Riverside, California, leaving the gold-pressed latinum CR microphone all the myself. It was, little did I know at the time, the last time I would fill-in on KCAA, as the program migrated to KMET 1490-AM a month later. Ditto. And also my last time in the center seat of the starship Pistachio for another nine months, which is the time I recall getting the phone call a little over two hours before airtime for American Daily Review that I'd be flying solo again. That's me, Mr. "Flexibility". At least in some ways.
