Everyone's favorite feature personal choice is back. This week we talk about our favorite game genres and our favorite music in video games. Tom sings and Calder hands out demerits. Enjoy.

We didn't have the internet readily available during this recording so here is a LoG Fact Check.

Fact Check - The composer of Shovel Knight and Mega Man is Manami Matsumae. - The Castlevania game Calder was trying to think of was probably Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Strange Picture So, it was mentioned in the episode that the image to accompany the podcast on the website should be the derpy dracula wearing Tom's shirt. As Taylor was trying to make this happen, friend of the show and YOUmedia regular, Alex Pietrzyk, hijacked the image editing and made this... http://youmediabadges.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Podcast-Drawing.jpg

It's Tangent Time! If this is your first tangent here is a quick explanation... Way back in Season 2 Taylor was out of town at a conference but the group decided to record anyway. In that season everyone had a problem with going off on tangents and not sticking to the planned topic of discussion. So the idea was to do a podcast of all tangents to see what would happen. Well, it was an interesting podcast. It started off light and funny and then went to a dark place with a rant of epic proportions from former LoGer Leo. We decided the tangent was an interesting experiment and we now produce one tangent a season. We walk into the studio with absolutely no plan for the conversation and record one straight hour of unfiltered LoGiness.

In past tangents we have gotten seriously off the topic of video games but this time we actually produced one of the best discussions of games in the podcast's history. Get ready for talk about the lack of summer gaming blockbusters and a dissection of gaming reviews where we lay out our plans for the future of gaming criticism.

Also.....waffles.

Oh dear...We sort of loose our minds during this podcast. We apologize for the arguing in circles up front. Please bear with us for some interesting if argumentative conversation. First up we have Byrd's Nest in which we discuss video games as a platform for journalism. In News Conference we talk about game theory - and this is where we loose our minds. All we can say is watch the video below the podcast audio and talk amongst yourselves. Finally in Personal Choice we talk about video games we would never want to live out in real life.

This week we have a new feature, Quest For Clicks, from Taylor. It’s about adventure games (which are not dead!). The first QFC is about Adventure Game Studio and the amazing world of freeware independent adventures. In News Conference we talk about the media circus surrounding Anders Brevik and the reaction from writer John Walker. Finally in Personal Choice we mash up two games to make one fantastic creation.

Welcome back! After two weeks off for Easter and Spring Break we are back with podcast-y goodness. Contrary to Stanley's beliefs at the top of this episode, this is in fact episode 7. Sorry Stanley, yet again numbers are your downfall. We also have a fully functioning website - contrary to the things said in the episode.

This week we have a very political Byrd's Nest and have a discussion about video games and the recession. Then we talk about the economic structure of the video game industry. In News Conference we talk about the Violence in Video Games Labeling Act. The discussion is so great that it continues after the break so we decided to add it to the end of the episode. Stick around after the music to hear the bonus conversation. Finally, we have Personal Choice where we choose games we would play with our family to change their opinions of video games.

Stanley is back! We start off with a Byrd's Nest inspired by last week's conversation and share our feelings about walkthroughs. In News Conference we talk about the controversial ending of Mass Effect 3 and BioWare's reactions to the fan outrage. Finally in Personal Choice we pick our favorite video game endings. Be warned! We spoil all of the games we talk about in this segment. Here is the list of games we talk about so you can avoid all of our spoilers.

  • Shadow of the Colossus

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

  • BioShock

  • Red Dead Redemption

  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

  • Contact

  • Portal 2

  • Heavy Rain

  • Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

  • Final Fantasy X

  • Pokemon Black (Hacked Version)

We are all back this week – except for Stanley whose whereabouts are unknown. Byrdie is sitting in as host and apparently hosting gives him an NPR style voice that is very distracting for the rest of the group.

For the first time this season Malic takes us to the indie gaming world with Independent Pixel. We talk about two games that allow players to unleash their inner game designer: Sketch Nation Studio from Engineous Games and Code Hero from Primer Labs.

In News Conference we talk about an article from Kill Screen Magazine’s blog about what is means to complete video games. We discovered we have very different opinions about the necessity of actually finishing video games. We also bring up the controversial ending to Mass Effect 3 which makes us all sad.

Finally for Personal Choice we talk about games where we would rather play as the antagonist than the protagonist.

*Taylor had a cold during this episode and apologizes for her unpleasant coughing.

This week it's a very small podcast with just Kaillif, Byrdie and Adam and we've only got two segments. In Byrd's Nest we talk about enemies in video games and why we find it so easy to kill them. In Personal Choice we talk about video games that could be adapted into movies - hopefully good movies...

Osiris Carroll (Anubis) and Lee Johnson (L.A.) wrote lyrics and rhymed on this track for the What's Going On Project via the Kennedy Center and YOUmedia Chicago.

L.A. took on the roll of George Zimmerman in the first verse and Anubis spoke in the voice of Trayvon Martin for verses 2 and 3.

VERSE 1 Chillin in my window callin pissin cops off, Chewin finger nails waitin for somethin to pop off, Finally hooded figure it's you and me and harmful or not to the community I'm ready to pop ya top off. Somethin smellin fishy like cat made poo, nothin better else to do u run I chase even tho the cops strictly told me not to pursue, this feelin makes me sick like the flu....... I ain't no fool. It's somethin in your hands I told them, skip it I ain't takin chances to see what it is, lil scoundrul (truely do not know how to spell it lol) go ahead and scream why don't ya, before he call his "folks" I gotta silence this kid quick, Led collide with rainbows and liquid from arizona, this is my kill stand over it like a deer, kids no fear you can wipe away your tears your newest P.D. officer is here-Zimmerman

VERSE 2 passing by time trying watch the windblow had a bag of skittles in my hand while this dude had a pistol, an innocent man with a hood confused for being racial in a racist neighborhood a stereotypical black figure is miserable when he's always gettin passed for the person whos visible if Zimmer would shoot a dude whos highly identicle then the chargers would be ready like Treys interlude so tell me if I didn't run would I be dead was yo nerves pumpin or was it pleasure instead I think it was the last one you can't change the the pass son but if u ever did id still be blood shead and I don't doubt it for one second you shoulda been arrested if not den posted up at da Pen with no question so I guess this a lesson for all the black kids to stay up outta places that we never shoulda been

VERSE 3 Whats going on I don't know so tell him have you seen the killings with lethal weapons it's like sector 7 an inclosed arrangement so heartless in the world left your blood on the pavement with no remorse they dont care if they did it the satisfaction from killing leaves them all with enlightment not intentions for prison but who makes the desicions if god is willing then he'll bless all these lil children for being so peaceful and staying away from the Evil see life is like a sequel it changes everyday one moment you'll be napping and the other you'll be see through I want peace for my people, but what you need to realize is life aint no disguise open up your eyes to another suprise but I seen it coming and I aint even running im staring it face to face and waiting for an answer
