What is the Chaotic Navigation podcast? The podcast is a way to provide others with decades of experience in health & safety, including personal security. With decades of experience, I hope to relay information to my listeners to assist them in making informed decisions. In addition, I have a wealth of knowledge in human psychology and intelligence from my studies within the US military. I have since studied psychology as an adult educator and hope to bring an understanding of what makes people do the things they do. Constantly asking. Why? Why do people do the things they do, and how can we keep ourselves and our families safe by knowing how our communities will react to certain events.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Mark Weisman, the Alaska Outlaw and I’ll be your host in a journey of understanding, encouragement, and hopefully enlightenment. This week we have teamed up with another great resource to provide a different perspective. Today I have the honor of introducing John Davis.
In this episode the outlaws tackle the subject of fear and its mitigation. Living a life in fear is really not a life, but with a little preparation we have the opportunity to eradicate most of our fears.
In this episode the Outlaws strip away all the hype and discuss the bare bones necessity of paying attention to the world around you. Whether you are mobile in/on a vehicle, or walking through a mall area, having your wits about you gives you a much better chance against the many potential threats within our dynamic zones. More than just putting down your phone, but actually assessing the world around us.
In this episode of the podcast, the Alaskan Outlaws discuss the pros and cons of including technology in our preps, to include some other critical thinking about the proper care and understanding with storing the technology. The outlaws also discuss our need to control our dependency on modern technology by peeling back the decades of discovery to utilize those tools to eliminate the need of electricity.
In this episode we revisited the outside and inside perimeters within our defensive strategies for our homes. We looked at potential threats to the different levels of this perimeter, and hopefully gave some ideas as to how we are going to fix them. We also talked about making sure everyone within your group understands what the perimeter is, and how to use it.
In this episode the Alaskan Outlaws tackle the necessary skillset of situational awareness. Being able to be aware of situations before the arise improves our chances of successful survival by almost half. The group talks about the needs to be aware of our surroundings, even in highly populated areas. Whether we are moving in a vehicle, or traveling by foot, being aware of suspicious situations before they enlarge is a big key to winning. However, there remains a balance between being hypervigilant and being over-zealous, knowing that threshold is really what makes us successful in our bids to remain safe and secure.
In this episode the team discusses the differences between living in a single residence home, versus that of multiple families, or apartment/condos type of arrangements. We’ll discuss some additional topics that need to be considered when sharing a limited pool of resources among a certain number of apartments, like power or water. We’ll broach the subject about the potential of someone breaking in via the walls, ceilings, or even floors and how to protect against it. The team will tackle these thoughts from a cataclysmic event through the recovery stage. So, lend us your ear and we will drop the message on you about getting and staying safe.
In this episode the Outlaw tackles the idea of taking some of the responsibility of raising the future generations back from other local authorities, whether that be the police or teachers, or even judges. As part of our society we have a responsibility to assisting in a future generation who will continue the growth of human existence in a positive way. The trickle effects to our children’s behaviors within society are long reaching and can be detrimental to both them, and the society in which they call home.
In this podcast the Alaska Outlaw addresses the nuclear football of the political hot button of gun control. The Outlaw discusses safety measures that we should all be using regarding the use of firearms within our defense strategies while reminding us that responsible gun ownership means maintaining an aura of safety around and with firearms within the home. During our discussion he opens the Pandora’s box of the polarity caused by this topic by identifying some common sense gun safety items. Join us for this adventure in some critical thinking around gun safety and laws.
In this episode we discuss how preparedness may minimize or eliminate the need to survive. In addition we talk about taking survival for granted in our every day lives.
In this episode Murphy discusses being safe while out and about throughout this great land of ours. Whether we are traveling to the grocery store, or to a foreign nation.
In this episode, Murphy interviews Dr. Mark Weisman about his book "Turn to Final" which offers some critical thinking into finding our spirituality and ussing that to better our mental condition to face the threats during and after a natural or man-made disaster.
In this episode we talk about the world's dependency on technology and hopefully incite some critical thinking about going "ol skool" to ensure our successful survival using non-technological gadgets to increase our success odds.
In this episode we continue our fourth season with a discussion about some critical thinking for a defensive strategy.
In this episode the Alaskan Outlaw talks about the considerations we should keep in mind when considering evacuation from our home.
It is my honor to introduce:
Luke Taylor
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Mark Weisman, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to talk about understanding about adrenaline, and its effects on our thought processes during, and after a disaster response.
In this episode we talk about being part of a community, our commitment, in addition to understanding how others may view the idea of society.
Season 3, Episode 20
Each year in the United States over 358,000 house fires require assistance from the local fire department, and that doesn’t even count the times some dinner may have gotten a little out of hand but was contained. In most of the deaths associated with home fires, faulty or missing smoke detectors are the blame for that one. However, today I’d like to talk about fire safety, both inside and outside, because one is no more likely than the other.
In this episode we have a candid conversation with Wayne Mulder, a long-time police officer in Florida.
Podcast Season 3 episode 18
Today I’d like to spend some time talking about many different aspects of basic security protocols that could be used during that sacred evening of sugar overload. Most of us don’t think about security on the night of fun, however, it’s also the most opportunistic.
Special Episode: Being prepared for an earthquake. Some common sense tricks and tips to help us recover from one of nature's most destructive events.
Today I’d like to talk about the stereotypes we hear about all the time about “those guys” who wear cammies, don’t talk much and are as backwater as they come. This can be no further from the truth, as a matter-of-fact, many high tech gadgetry is associated with survival as disaster preparedness. Those out there who decide to listen to the naysayers of the world, wind up in a really bad place, when they really don’t. I’d like to clear up some misconceptions about being prepared.
Podcast Season 3 episode 16 - Today I have the honor of introducing: Chip DeBlock
Chip was born and raised in Tampa, Florida in 1962 and graduated from the University of South Florida in 1983 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. He worked with the Tampa Police Department for 30 years (1983 – 2013) and retired as a detective. Chip is best known for his work in Organized Crime, Public Corruption, Adult Entertainment and being a Whistleblower. He co-founded the LEOAFFAIRS.COM law enforcement website in 2002 which sold in 2014. Chip created the LEO Round Table law enforcement talk show on 12/14/2015 of which he is currently the host.
Season 3 Episode 15
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Mark Weisman, the Alaska Outlaw and I’ll be your host in a journey of understanding, encouragement, and hopefully enlightenment. This week we have teamed up with another great resource to provide a different perspective. Today I have the honor of introducing Andy Murphy
Today I want to talk about maintaining the gains we’ve made by gathering all our resources, skills, and knowledge about survival. We need to constantly test our skills to ensure we don’t get too rusty, in addition to maintaining our resources reserved for survival needs.
Today I have the honor of introducing:
Audrey Gray is an Emergency Programs Manager for the Municipality of Anchorage Office of Emergency Management. She grew up in Wyoming and later attended Colorado State University where she earned her B.S. in Microbiology. She is a former Peace Corps Volunteer and has worked for the Casper-Natrona County Health Department (Casper, WY) as an Environmental Health Specialist and the Public Health Preparedness Manager for 16 years.
In an earlier episode of “Security Management” magazine they broached the topic of theft during, and immediately following a large scale natural disaster. On many shows here at the Chaotic Navigator we have discussed the “opportunistic criminals” that have typically lurked in the shadows of these larger scale events (do you remember the BLM protests that turned into riots). These types of incidents are driven by the criminal elements among us to distract us from their petty theft.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to talk about National Preparedness Awareness Month!! Each year, the crazy-good folks at ready.gov highlight a month dedicated to arming the citizens with the knowledge to keep themselves healthy and safe during natural disasters.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to talk about ensuring our team is safe and secure immediately following a large-scale disaster. Having a planned rendezvous location that everyone in the team is familiar with and has a plan in place to get there.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to talk about some basic ideas about land navigation. For all you second lieutenants out there, sir/ma’am, pay attention. For those of you who struggle with navigation, here is some basic info.
Every day we receive emails and snail mail about how life will be so much better when zombies are free to decimate the less prepared, or weaker of those among us. I started to really think about what life in this world would be like when the zombie apocalypse was over.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to talk about those first couple of days following a natural disaster. I want to talk about the matrix we used, but just as importantly, I want to call out those things we need to know that first couple of hours after the disaster strikes.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to cut out the bullshit that flies around the internet about being scared, or I love hearing the idiots who tell me they are taking my stuff when disaster strikes. I just tell them “yea, good luck with that plan”.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to vent a little about the many different political influences we have within our lives. Whether it be the city council reducing the effectiveness of the local police department, or emergency medical services, or the national governmental policies about recreational drug use and all the other impacts these have on our lives.
We’ve talked about a lot of different topics, so I’d like to slow down and start to weave a quilt of necessary skills and resources to get us, and our family out safely.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I’d like to respond to a flood of emails we’ve gotten over the year, while discussing some ideas about who is ultimately responsible for your safety, as well as the safety of your family members.
I remember that most of us have some furry family members that need to be included in our preps, just as much, if not more than our two legged family members. Today I’d like to include our pets in our preparedness discussions.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to speak to those who have just figured out they need to be prepared, but may be confused as to how to start. Today, I’d like to take a minute to discuss some basic necessities, some of them are FREE!! That’s right boys and girls, I said free!
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am Murphy Ganz, the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to talk about knowing your neighbors. Just like we’ve witnessed internationally, alliances bind people together in times of troubles, which is why it should be a critical component to your prep to get to know your neighbors. Like we are currently seeing in Eastern Europe, Poland is a part of an alliance that will engage many different countries if it’s drawn into the war against Ukraine.
In this episode Murphy sits down with Betsey Kulakowski and discusses being prepared in the real world.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss about the fifth and final in a series of our “fab five” by discussing the protective equipment. While some of it we already covered in the temperature control, back in episode two, this week I want to do a deeper dive on avoiding unnecessary risks.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss about the fourth in a series of our “fab five” by discussing the three weeks without food. Not only concerning ourselves with having food, but having the right food stores to sustain us throughout a disaster. When considering the nutrition necessary to survive, we need to account for those among our teams who may have special needs.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss about the third in a series of our “fab five” by discussing the three days without water. In addition, we need to consider the acquisition of usable water for the multiple uses it’s going to have keeping us alive.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss about the second in a series of our “fab five” by discussing the control of temperature we expose our bodies to during a disaster. As we may recall, the “fab five” is based on the unwritten “rule of three” that most in the survival/preparedness arena have established as the needs for successful survival. Today, I want to continue this series by talking about having some boundaries to the temperature we expose ourselves to, and more specifically combining exposures to amplify the effect.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss about the first in a series of our “fab five” by talking to the air we breathe. As we may recall, the “fab five” is based on the unwritten “rule of three” that most in the survival/preparedness arena have established as the needs for successful survival. Today, I want to open this series by talking about being without clean air for longer than three minutes.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss the necessity of researching the information we receive. How can we apply filtering, especially if it’s information we are going to be passing on to others. Given that many of the threats facing us average citizens today are based in a framework of time relativity.
Regardless of whether you’re protecting a dad-bod, bad-bod, or all those bods that make up the human race, you want to make sure that you are keeping it safe. We’ve talked before about avoiding unnecessary risks, and we’re going to look at that today. In addition, during the “fab five”, do y’all remember that? Awww YEAH!! The fab five had that fifth item added to the original rule of three that made up the other items within the list. We need to keep ourselves safe and healthy, particularly during that time of a disaster. Its the little things that are going to bite us in the ass.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to discuss the potential need that we may experience where we have to extricate ourselves or a loved one from a collapse of a home or commercial location. In addition, I want to discuss ideas about search operations for locating lost persons.
Each week we look at a different facet of what being prepared looks like in the real world of everyday. It is absolutely awesome to be back with you guys here for another adventure of discovery and obtaining the super power of common sense. Today I want to put a new lens on the old eyeballs and look at the topics with a different perspective. Today, I want us to spend a little time going over being a little more assertive in our defensive planning. So, like we do, we’re going to break it down into three segments.
Segment 1 - Perimeter protections, and extending the perimeter safely.
Segment 2 - Ensuring the whole choir is on the same page of music.
Segment 3 - The application and understand of “Deadly Force”.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I would like to express my opinion as to a potential exercise in the dismantling of this experiment we call the United States. Explaining the tenuous position our country finds itself in these modern times.
It’s late in an overcast evening, and you are relaxing after a long day of work. You are enjoying a television show when you hear sounds of someone attempting to force the garage door open from the outside, then more hand trying to beat the garage door down. You locate your sidearm and move to investigate. As you peer out the window in the door you note a large group of people moving around your front yard. The crowd seems to destroying everything in your front yard and moving in the direction of your front door. Their moaning becomes louder as they close in on your front door. A window shatters and arms are reaching through the now open space. While it may seem like a bad B rated zombie flick, the reality is, medical science actually has several documented cases of “zombies” in the real world. It's go time.
Alrighty then, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigator podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I hope to be your guide as we shoot the shit about using the opportunity of peacetime, non-emergent focus on our emergency preparedness instead of waiting until it “go time” to try to scrounge up the stuff we need to keep our family, and ourselves safe and healthy. In this episode I’d like us to consider getting after our preparedness operations before the next big disaster hits. For those of you living here in Alaska, we never know when the big one is going to pop up, forcing us to shift to our emergency plans, much like those living in the Midwest as the storms begin to migrate north, bringing those twisters with them. We can start the arrangements for our preparedness now, before its too late, and we can certainly create our plans.
In this episode I revisit the need for checking our sources, and talk about what are some good sources for solid intel on the world around us.
Hey hey hey, we’re back for another exciting adventure here on the Chaotic Navigation podcast. I am the Alaska Outlaw and today I hope to be your guide as we shoot the shit about the magic tool belt that we all need to develop in the engagement of building our self defense strategy. A couple of weeks back we talked about the paradigm shift the think more tactically with Mark Booher, as well a couple weeks before that Jenna Ashley reminded us about adding a situational awareness to our everyday activities, as well as a legally concealed firearm. These are just a fraction of the tool belt necessary for getting and staying safe.
In this episode we discuss some of the injuries that one needs to consider treating during and immediately following a natural or man-made disaster. In addition, we talk about first aid kit ideas and storage, as well as some basic understanding for hygiene during and following a natural or man-made disaster.
A discussion to help us change our mindset to one of thinking tactically when out in public, or being at home following a natural disaster. Mark offers current thinking and training about being safe and secure.
In this episode I break down the start of our preparedness exercises by building our understanding of our need to preparedness based on a day-to-day needs of your family unit. We'll look at the many different types of needs your family has during a disaster.
In this episode we discuss some of those things that we should consider when planning our efforts in surviving a natural or man made disaster that we are likely to forget about until its too late. Walking around our home now, before the event, gives us a better chance of removing those potential weapons, or trajectories that can cause more problems for our recovery.
In this episode I revisit an episode we did last year about avoiding unnecessary risks.
In this episode, I revisit a show we did last October where we discussed some personal security tactics and knowledge about moving safely in and out of dynamic zones throughout the public sector, and with enough practice, these skills can become more second nature.
Talking about the paradigm shift of altering one's defensive strategies, and the mental health maintenance that helps to ensure we have a clear head when trying to deal with bigger issues.
In this episode, I interview a wonderful guest named Blake about her simplistic ideas about getting started at almost zero cost with her preparedness exercises. With some wonderful ideas about keeping it simple, and keeping it cheap, yet being prepared for whatever happens.
In this episode I’d like to talk about some basic safety measures to use around the home every day. Recently a neighbor experienced a tragedy of epic proportions up the road from me here in South central Alaska when their home caught fire and endured extensive interior damage. While the neighbors and I chipped in to help them recover, the damage was extensive, and there were several priceless belongings including two cats that were consumed by the blaze. After some investigation, the source was determined to be an overloaded surge protector thereby causing a mini-fridge to ignite. It immediately brought to my wife and my attention about the number of surge protectors around our home that needed to be examined, and/or removed but this was ultimately just the surface as to some basic preventative steps we needed to ensure were current. To this end, I figured it might be time for our annual reminder as to the basic ideas of safety for our homes and businesses.
In this episode I want to talk about putting rubber on the road, and making plans to getting better prepared for the new year. At the risk of sounding like an alarmist, there are tons of factors around us creating a general sense of doom and gloom. Many people repeatedly ask us about how this whole thing gets started, how do you begin to construct our preparedness resources store without breaking your bank. While some would have us believe that this part is where we need an expensive consultant to tell us what and when we need.
In this episode I’d like to throw out some ideas about road travel safety and security. I’d like to look at some possible events that could interrupt that travel. I’d also like to talk about what we should think about having in our vehicle in case the impossible happens. While there are constant reminders published, most places throughout the country are already in the grips of their winter. This season is typically created a higher frequency of vehicular accidents resulting in the needs for survival skills. We talk a lot about being prepared for larger scale disasters, but at the end of the day, we need to be prepared for any emergent situation that arises in our circle.
In this episode I want to revisit the mental necessities for us to adopt to ensure successful outcomes. Over the last two years we’ve talked about the mental focus necessary, whether conquering a pandemic, or social unrest, our “head needs to be in the game” to ensure success. Now, we’ve talked about the different mental challenges that will face us during a crisis, and we have certainly covered the creation of, and the implementation of our written plans, but I’d like to revisit the idea that, not everyone is going to be part of our success. We need to ensure our plans take into consideration a possibility that those who should be assisting, become hindrances. After all we’re all only human. Whether these be family members who “show their real colors” during an emergency event, or if the are first responders who decide to capitalize of the situation, we need to be ready for everything to get sideways.
In this episode we look at the requirements for, the management of, and the recovery from biological warfare in the 21st century. We’ll talk about delivery methods, we’ll include how biological agents get into the body, and most importantly I want to talk about some common sense methods of keeping ourselves safe. With all the misinformation flying sideways around the internet, I thought we might take a moment to discuss the realities about biological warfare in the 21st century. What it might look like, and how effective it would be in this modern-day world. Honestly, we have been witnessing over the last year and a half, how effective a biological agent would be here in the United States. For today’s discussion, I’m not going to cover any nuclear components.
In this week’s episode I’d like to put a little managerial perspective on keeping things running smoothly during, and following a natural or man-made disaster. We’ve discussed about including each member of the family (or teammates) in the planning of the response to a disaster. We have even discussed the idea of ensuring that we have a written plan to execute during a catastrophic event, as well as proper storage locations, and exit strategies. From a logistical and managerial perspective, I’d like to make sure we have all the “oars rowing in the right direction”, just to make sure we have considered all the trains of thought. As I’ve mentioned before, and I’m sure to say again, what I am telling you is not about generating fear, it’s about being prepared. Thinking of all the things that can, and will, go wrong, and being ready for it.
In this episode I want to explore some ideas about keeping our children, and ourselves safe, and consider what is accomplished for the first seventeen years of our children’s lives. To do this we need to evaluate the training our children receive every year. We need to talk about the required training they receive while attending school outside the home. But just as importantly, we need to consider the reasoning for why we don’t perform the same level of training at home.
In this episode I’d like us to consider the position of firearms in modern day society. Throughout the lifespan of loading up and carrying a loaded firearm in public, the sentiment has always been, use it as a last resort. Throughout the last decade we have witnessed the use of loaded firearms move closer and closer to the first line of defense. This was memorialized when the couple stood on their lawns during the BLM protest march past their home in {find where}. Welcome to todays show. Today I want to talk about the paradigm shift in society’s changing to a more aggressive stance.
In this episode we discuss ensuring that our plans include all members of our family group, which should include both: remote and local assets. We need to be sure we include language in our plans that is appropriate for the personnel involved, remembering that others will experience the same adrenaline overload that you will, we focus on keeping instruction simplistic. By ensuring that our plans break necessary steps down far enough so that even the least educated can be successful.
In this episode, we discuss the many different facets of our necessary planning to ensure that we have a bonafide plan for the many potential outcomes. We will also discuss the timeline for necessary mechanisms for optimal survival regardless of the event. While I want to consider major natural disasters, we should have developed plans for many of today's possibilities. I’d like to think about the many different impacts on our lives that one event will have and what are some possible outcomes. We’ll look at three major natural disaster events, and work on our plans for how to tackle the many different moving pieces.
In this episode we discuss the different layers, or distances, to engage targets, both in the defensive and offensive posture. Defining the differences between offensive and defensive, as well as other tools that can be deployed to give us the best chance of success.
In this episode we’ll look at intelligently determining the best location, both: inside, and outside your primary residence for storing those supplies necessary to survive natural disasters. In this episode we’ll also cover the appropriate containers to store your supplies in. We’ve covered some ideas as to what to put in it, now let’s talk about what to put it in, and where to put it. When considering the placement or our stores, we need to consider the the largest potential threat, thereby giving our stores the best chance of being intact and usable.
In this episode we'll look at the societal used phrase of Zombie apocalypse. What it means, and the defining characteristics that would indicate it's happening in your area. Touching on some of the myths and stereotypes commonly included in Society's definition of it. Although many claims that the story may go way back in antiquity, while others credit the earlier movies and comic books of the 19th and 20th centuries for their creation, ultimately it all identifies mindless individuals seeking to ingest "brains", while their flesh rots from their body.
In this episode the Alaska Outlaw cuts loose with an opinion piece about the rise of the fifth horseman of the apocalypse, misinformation. With the global influence of the misinformation highway, or social media, we find ourselves inundated with tidbits of data aimed at misdirecting the reader/listener. When broaching the subject of misinformation, the top two sources: news radio, and mainstream news. Although we’ve covered it before, just a reminder, those two sources are biding for followers, or “paying customers” who are willing to listen to their information. I would be willing at this point to submit that there is 100 times more fake news than there is real news.
In this episode I’d like to talk about the theory behind “bugging out”. We’ll look at what it is, and what do we need to ensure we have when doing so. Most importantly we’ll debate when is the most appropriate time to make the decision as to when to “bug out”, or when to “shelter in place”. Just as importantly is the concept of “bugging in”, which lays the groundwork for one of the major decisions you’ll have make following a natural disaster. Quite frequently we hear people go on and on about “bugging out” before considering what is entailed in completing that. Possible road closures, or weather events continuing which then creates obstacles to the whole idea behind bugging out. Based on this line of thinking, one of the first major hurdles we need to cover is the decision to bug out, or stay home.
In this episode we’ll discuss what I mean when I speak about avoiding unnecessary risks, many people say “I’m tough enough” or “I can handle it”, where as they are not considering the possible of secondary ramifications to these choices. While some consider this show the definition of weakness, most don’t consider the longer team impact.
In this episode we’ll discuss some of the advances made in technology that can be incredibly benefit. Primarily I want to discuss the alternative fuel options that have brought to us by these advances in technology. As my day job works exclusively with the deployment, management, and enhancement of technology within an organization here in Anchorage, I’ve come to recognize the real value of technology with being, and staying prepared.
In this episode we’ll discuss some techniques and proper planning for including weapons in your preparedness plans. Understanding some basic laws and societal perspectives when going “all in” for loading up your self and the family. However we need to think about the weaponry we choose for our self defense, it needs to fit the billet of what we’re asking it to do. Living in a studio apartment with multiple ARs might be a little much. So in today’s discussion, let’s consider the penetration of the round, and the potential for injury beyond the intended target. Making sensible choices with our sensible weapon choices.
In this episode I’d like to go back and talk about the beginning, and the bare-boned basics of being prepared. We going to take a common-sense approach what are the essentials we need for our resource preps. We’ve covered the mental fortitude necessary, now let’s talk about the bare bones necessities for surviving natural disasters. We also talked about the plan, so now we need the actual items. We’ll start with what FEMA recommends, then I’ll add my two cents here and there as to my experience.
In this episode I discuss the aspects of our modern life that need to be prepared for that we don’t have societal redundancy. Whether it be food, water, medicine, or technology, we need to make some decisions now while we still have the opportunity to secure the right stuff. Today I hope to have a conversation about all of the skills that we may need in a catastrophic disaster. So with that said let’s talk about what it means to be self-sufficient, and what it means to our overall chance of success in surviving a natural disaster when we retain our abilities to stay self-sufficient.
We constantly discuss the necessity of being mentally prepared being just as important as being physically prepared. We know that survival is 80% of the battle, while the physical and resource needs making up the remaining 20%. Just as importantly as being prepared with resources, we need to mentally prepared for the unexpected of a natural disaster. Today we continue our quest in understanding the influence of massive stress will have on the human body. To this end, I’ve unburied my biology and chemistry books for us to use in our discussion today. My desire is that you come away from today’s show with the hope that you can get through this scenario, regardless how hopeless it may seem. You can do it, and I’ll show you how.
This episode we will have a candid conversation about the tactics used by human traffickers to snag people (predominantly children) to be inducted into the secret world modern-day slavery. In this episode we’ll invite a leader in the field of studying human trafficking to give us some basic understanding in practices we can use to ensure our safety as well as that of our children.
It’s 10 o’clock in the morning when the earth begins to shake. You are at work, you know your spouse is at their job as well, while your two children are in school. This is the real world scenario of being prepared for natural disasters, this is where most of the best laid plans come apart. In this episode we will discuss having enough flexibility in your meet-up plans to ensure you can stay on plan regardless of the issues that pop up during the fallout from a major event.
All right, so let’s honestly look at a couple of situations where we might run into this type of situation. Then, address the “preparedness” angle where we’ll look at some “red flags” to be cognizant of. Finally, we’ll outline some basic ideas to get low, move fast, and get out alive. Before we really go too deep, I really want to make sure we’re all on the same page. We’re not talking about this to garner fear, or force anyone to stay home behind locked doors. We’re not fear-mongering, we’re identifying where we need to be prepared, and what we can do.
I sat for quite some time pondering what to say about this topic, my heart remains heavy with the recent pain caused by the blatant attack on our democracy here in the United States. The actions witnessed of the “supposed” patriots on our nation's capital during the certification of the electoral votes, it dawned on me that this was becoming the podcast I never thought I’d be having. I focused intently on the composition of the crowds that surrounded the Capital building during the protest. I completed this study in much the same way I studied the crowds in the multiple riots throughout the summer of 2020. Originally, I thought I would be expressing anger at the nations willingness to label me as a “WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant)” including all those negative connotations, eternally endowed by birthright with some “white privilege”.
Watching re-runs of Doomsday Prepper, or “bear Gryllis” will give you some basic ideas, however, these two instances are for the extreme and are really not for the average family. The Red Cross and Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) offer guidelines, both of these groups are really trying to normalize the whole of the United States by simplifying, and not drilling down into individual regions. When considering the start of your preparedness exercises, consider the following, in order;
Throughout last year we repeatedly spoke about the freedoms that Americans enjoy every day. We spoke about the needs for individuals to not only express their freedoms, but to be prepared to fight for them if necessary. No, not like those freaks did on January 6th of this year, but pay attention to the voting booths, and the proposed ordnance’s and laws that are up for a vote. To be a civilized society, we must each endeavor to be respectful of the rules governing a society. Unlike the clowns of early January 2021, we need to have order and discussion. That is how a society works. There are rules, and the idea that we trample others rights in the demand for our own is a definite path to anarchy, and societal collapse.
Tonight is the long awaited introduction to our second season here at the Alaska Outlaw podcast. Throughout the last year we’ve covered many different topics, and found several themes that emerged throughout the year. A year of informative podcasts to look back upon, I want to look at these threads and hopefully shed some more light on those themes. First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank each of you for following us, and hope that our second year will be just as fun, and educational as the first one was.
Let’s talk about what a “doomsday theory“ is. When considering what we need to be prepared for, thinking about the end of the world as we know it should always be in the back of our mind. How do we go on after society has imploded? Considering all the items that we have in our lives will be gone, or impossible to replace. Our lives will be completely different, but yet we’ll retain the knowledge that we had them, and what they did. So, contrary to those who say that humankind will be thrust back to the Stone Age, the knowledge of the developed technology will be retained, thereby allowing crude replicas to be created. This then provides a stark contrast to going back into time, before there was an understanding of these conveniences. So, while we talk about the loss of current conveniences, some of these Doomsday theories are survivable. So, with all that said, let’s talk about a couple more possibilities other than our intro today.
Whenever discussing conspiracies, one must be cognizant of the kernel of belief that there is in the underlying principles. Notice I didn’t say kernel of truth, I said belief. I say this because there are some folks across the land who are convinced of the validity of these claims, therefore are hoarding resources to that end. However for the rest of us, we should consider, if only briefly, the possibility of their concept coming to fruition. While we have no obligation to subscribe to their theories, we might want to consider the modification of our preps to ensure we could handle the fallout from their conspiracy coming to reality.
The need for survival methods. Events in our lives that we’ll need survival tactics to continue our lives. Whenever we talk about Survival, it’s when it’s a major event, or we’ve heading off to the woods for a long weekend. We bring up the subject when there’s a huge natural disaster and we are left without power without our resources without food those types of things. However, all too often we failed to remember that it’s the little things or the smaller events that will get us in the end. With this in mind, I’d like to open up our discussions this week and talk about survival verses real strategy for getting through an event safely, and healthy. There are those amongst the Survival genre, who feel that constant practice is the only key to success, more like muscle memory for the activities necessary to survive a natural disaster.
Whenever we talk about the US power grid crashing many immediately assume that we’re breaking out our tin-foil hats to broadcast another fox newscast. However, bringing it back to reality a little when we talk about instances like what we witnessed on the East Coast with a pipeline that got shut down by electronic terrorists and essentially left the consumers in the dark. Although in that case, it was another utility, the underlying principles are the potentially the same. So the question is how do we, as individuals function if our local power grid were to go offline. With the modern world running at almost 100% of some form of electricity, we are left to wonder what exactly would happen to society, to our communities, and most importantly our friends and family.
We frequently discuss the “end of the civilized world as we know it”, and one of these days we might be right, however, given the more realistic perspective, the larger probability is going to be a large-scale natural disaster that crushes the currently communication channels, either by eliminating the power sources, or by overwhelming the standard communication channels to the point where it can be considered a failure. To this end, we need to consider the standard channels that most common Americans are going to use in the midst of a natural disaster. Today, we’ll discuss the failure of:
The idea that your home is capable of returning every penny invested in alternate energy sources may strike many as a fantasy commercial, however, I’m here to tell you that with modern tech, it is completely possible to replace the local utility grids with pure profit for you. The first thing that I am about to share will be the possibilities, followed by some real world rubber on the road implementations of this tech.
This week I hope to be your guide at actually putting rubber on the road, without an anchor in your wallet, to create partial security barriers out of everyday living conditions that might be just enough inconvenience to prevent random, opportunistic scumbags from violating the sanctity of your home.
Following the underlying principles of survival, we must consider the many necessities of long term survival through many different possibilities. So, to begin our discussion about survival strategies, we must first separate our survival plan into the objectives. By defining each of the scenario objectives, we are better positioned to develop emergency plans for each of the scenarios. Ok, so what are these “scenarios?” The major method of classification for events is the elapsed time until life could return to pre-event standards.
