We live in an age in which the media is too often used as a means to constrain and restrict rather than express. Radio Free Brooklyn is building a communication infrastructure to strengthen the community of artists and residents of NYC’s most populous borough.
Our Mission:
We chose Internet radio not only because it is the most accessible medium for many, but because radio can be so many things: a subversive apparatus, a political cudgel, a prank, a ritual, a bond. We broadcast not the commercial dross that clogs the terrestrial airwaves, but original programming as diverse as the programmers themselves – stories, sound art, radical ideation, comedy, sex, and experimentation yet unheard. We are a community organization - all are welcome to participate.
After more than three years and over 90 shows, Collision Time Revisited finally comes to an end. MSG commemorates this bittersweet end by remembering the friends we've made, featuring tales and clips of the bands we've had the good fortune to interview along the way: I Am the Polish Army, Ex-Girlfriends, Potty Mouth, Sharkmuffin, and Diet Cig. There's also more about the band that changed MSG's life, and a final song that just might bring a tear to your eye.

It's a very special episode of CTR when MSG takes a break from delivering the cutting edge of punk rock and takes us back to the 1990's. Back then, there was no music streaming or even Napster, and if you wanted free music you taped songs off the radio. MSG took this to a whole new level by regularly recording a full tape's worth of radio, then forwarding through it looking for songs to save, which he'd record onto another tape (a process he called "track fishing"). Today's show consists entirely of songs from found on these mixtapes, including music from 90's cornerstones Veruca Salt, The Offspring and Better Than Ezra, rarities from Liz Phair, Everclear and Poe, and tunes from One Semi Rock Radio Hit Wonders Pure, Cello, Summercamp, and dozens more. MSG talks about the East Village show that inspired this special, how he ended up in one of the radio station's promos and the songs that surprised him.

Collision Time Revisited kicks off 2016 in high gear with music from Spook School, Connections, Brooklyn's own Falling Birds and classics from Sham 69, Black Flag and The Replacements. MSG talks about Shane MacGowan's teeth, who he's rooting for during film award season, and pays tribute to late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister
1977 was a cultural watershed year in more ways than one. Not only was it the year punk rock exploded, with dozens of seminal masterworks hitting the landscape, it was also when the original Star Wars was released and changed the world of cinema. So in honor of the new film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the last CTR of 2015 features songs that made 1977 so great, with influential tunes from The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Vibrators and more. There's also new music from Heaven's Gate, Petal, Ringo Deathstarr, the list goes on. MSG introduces Morgan's girlfriend Carrie, explains the one drawback of his schedule, and tears cultural snobbery a new one.
It's a very merry Collision Time Revisited with our very first Christmas episode! Hear punk rock Christmas favorites from the likes of Bad Religion, The Descendents and The So So Glos, plus newer tracks from Happyness, Teen Suicide and Trupa Trupa. MSG talks about recent shows from modern rock legends Dinosaur jr. and Sleater-Kinney, the irony of Mother Nature, and pays tribute to the late Scott Weiland.
November's unprecedented third episode kicks off the show's second season, with music from Sharkmuffin, Riverboat Gamblers, Night Birds and over 40 more. MSG laments yet another Brooklyn music venue closure, explains his biggest problem with made for tv Christmas movies and gives a preview of the upcoming Collision Time Revisited Christmas special.
The final episode of CTR's rookie season is the second of three episodes in November, a first for the bi-weekly show. Middle acts of three-stage works usually plunge their heroes into horrible situations to set up their ultimate triumphs later on (think Empire Strikes Back, Act II of any three act opera or simply the middle of most movies). In tribute, MSG delivers his darkest show yet, filled with songs of sorrow, frustration and anger, from Big D and the Kids Table, Bleached, Mikal Cronin and almost 40 more. MSG talks about his recent performance in a battle of the bands fundraiser, why he doesn't mind missing a show he waited months for, and pays tribute to the people of Paris, France.
November's here, and MSG has decreed it shall start with The Best Collision Time Revisited Ever, featuring songs from Wand, Girl Band and Wildhoney, plus a special list of tunes dedicated to Morgan and his girlfriend Carrie. MSG talks about the upcoming charity event in which he'll make his rock band debut, offers a critique of Joanna Gruesome's new two singer approach, and explains the source of his Christmas obsession.
October ends with CTR's first ever Halloween Special! Bands dress up in figurative costumes as MSG delivers an episode consisting entirely of covers. October begins with a special show featuring bands coming to NYC for this month's CMJ Music Marathon, including Titus Andronicus, Pity Sex and Spider Bags. MSG also recalls an experience when things at a CMJ venue went south fast after the show, and gives his own answer to a question asked of all the CMJ bands.
