Suelynn (Sue) started off as a design student and today runs Kooks Creamery, a successful ice cream place that specialises in molten lava cookies, a business she established with her sister.
We sat down at the Serangoon outlet to find out how the journey to where she is today began, and how working in something seemingly so unrelated like visual merchandising for brands like Estée Lauder and H&M taught her lessons about commerciality.
"As a student, Sue was never the most academic nor the most driven amongst her peers," says Luke, who went to school with her for three years in Republic Polytechnic. "That's what makes her story so great. She didn't set out to 'defy the odds' or to prove any point - she just followed her heart, worked hard, and her example is one we can all learn from."
BONUS: after the extended circuit breaker was announced in Singapore, dessert cafes and restaurants like Kooks Creamery were also ordered to close. We caught up with her for a bit to find out how she and her team were dealing with it.
