Josh Ciardi has worked in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry as an analyst and strategist. He has witnessed some mind-blowing advances in medical technology over the last fifteen years but is even more fascinated by ancient methods of healing the mind and body. Josh is in the final semester of a Master's of Public Health at the University of Sydney and believes that health economics helps humans on a massive scale. In our Empowered Conversation we discuss how both science and spirituality have shaped Josh’s life and how they both play an important role in expanding our growth, understanding and awareness of who we are. In Part One of this deeply immersive Empowered Conversation, Dr Meuth unpacks what it means to journey as a woman in today’s world. She speaks to surrendering which is a word she didn’t want to touch because it was synonymous with giving herself up and being helpless. This was a blind spot which kept attracting unavailable men in her life. It is also a blind spot for many women which stop them from loving themselves. We talk about self-love and what this actually means. We can’t talk ourselves into self-love, we need to feel this, so Dr Meuth guides us through a beautiful self-loving practice.

How do we stay compassionate and keep our hearts open to others as we stand strong in our truth and what we believe in? Interested in the creative process from an early age, Sher Manu, a freelance choreographer, moved to Byron Bay from Sydney, after having her first child. It is here that she immersed herself in Anthroposophy, a philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner, through her children’s education. Along with the support of an open-minded community, Sher shares how life in Byron Bay has shaped her parenting, her attunement to life and her reconnection to her truth.

Dr. John Petrozzi (who also happens to be my hubby) has been fascinated with the human body since he was a young boy so it is no wonder he chose chiropractic as his profession to help those in physical pain. He recently completed his PhD in which he explored the effects of thoughts and behaviour on chronic low back pain. In our time together we dive deep exploring the body as a powerful messenger; what this means and how we can pick up on these messages. This is a fascinating exploration of body’s innate wisdom which we all have within us when we listen and ask the right questions. John shares great tips on managing and releasing emotional tension in the body. What does this mean, not just for creatives but each one of us? We discuss the importance of using this time, and what has happened over the past year, to define new boundaries, place greater value on our skills, experience, time and most of all our self-worth.

Dr Josephine Braid uniquely combines her passion for physical rehabilitation medicine and functional medicine. She is a strong advocate for health education and empowerment, and works closely with a health coach to maximise her patients' health outcomes. Whilst historically doctor-patient relationships have been one of imbalance when it comes to knowledge and power, times are changing and this old model is quickly becoming outdated. Patients need to take charge of their own health by educating themselves, asking questions, challenging information that doesn’t feel right- because they have the right to do so. It’s time we started taking taking responsibility and charge of our health. I’m grateful to Dr Josephine Braid for sharing insights in this Empowered Conversation about how we can start to become more empowered agents of change when it comes to our health. Knowing where to start can be overwhelming. Dr Braid shares simple proven tips when it comes taking charge of our health. It is often what is overlooked that can help us the most.

The question ‘which two animals best describe you?’ started as a bit of fun in 2012 at a dinner party for Kate McNab and Lisa Bella, co-founders of Animalyser. Some of their friends were able to answer the question immediately and others not so. Over time, they found that this question connected people back to nature and more importantly to their own authentic nature.
In my conversation with Kate McNab we talk about inception of Animalyser and it’s purpose: to help people connect, laugh and have fun. In a world which has become increasingly unstable, unpredictable and uncertain we discuss the importance of needing to connect more than ever to our fellow human being through fun and laughter. Animalyser offers us the opportunity to do exactly that: to find our true nature through animals and their unique characteristics.

For many, one of the hardest things to do is to make time for ourselves to do what we desire. In this Empowered Conversation I am joined by Pamela Zimmer, a bestselling author who is also known as “Self-Care Concierge” who teaches women how to have peace and balance in their lives through a consistent practice of self-care- which is more than just a monthly massage or mani/pedi.
In our conversation we talk about what is self-care and why it needs to be an essential part of our life- especially for women given we find it a lot hard to put our needs first. We also explore boundaries in the context of self-care and the key to starting a self-care routine.

Lyle Steffensen is a first generation migrant with a (very) mixed ethnic background who grew up in the apartheid era in South Africa, and came to Australia in the “Recession We Had to Have” when she was 15 with her parents and two sisters. Lyle’s passion for social justice, inclusivity and diversity is at the forefront of what she does as the Practice Leader for Marsh Care Solutions across Australasia. In our Empowered Conversation we discuss the role shame plays in helping us heal. While every human being experiences shame not everyone will know when they are experiencing shame. So how do we deal with shame? Can shame and joy coexist? What about shame in the workplace? How do we begin to address this? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Lyle share’s her own wisdom in answering these questions and leaves us with powerful messages we each need to hear- now more than ever.

This makes her uniquely qualified to manage infertility and hormonal issues. She takes a very integrated and practical approach when it comes to women’s health issues.
In this episode of Empowered Conversations I speak with Dr. Tash about how women can feel more empowered as they approach menopause or during their menstrual cycles. She is a big advocate of being curious, open-minded and staying informed. She redefines menstruation and menopause as seasonal cycles and encourages women to learn more so they can understand what is going on with their bodies and be able to make changes accordingly.

In this Empowered Conversation I speak with Tristan Fahey, founder of Rubifresh, a natural skincare company and author of “Living Well and Aging Gracefully”. In her early forties, and mother to two toddlers under two, Tristan felt she was at a crossroad – torn between society’s expectations of flawlessness, and the life philosophy she so believed in – health, fitness, and wholeness. Driven by a life purpose to facilitate wholeness and confidence in women she founded Rubifresh. In our Empowered Conversation, we talk about the potential long-term impact of cosmetic enhancements on young women and the conversations we need to be having with our daughters to empower them to be authentic and unique and know what they truly value. We also unpack how to balance day-to-day life, getting things done, working through our fears and making conscious choices of how we choose to show up and look after our health.

In this episode of Empowered Conversations, I’m joined by an accomplished conductor and musician Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich. Victoria has performed in Australia and around the globe and has been playing the violin since she was six. Playing the violin has been her constant companion in life helping her through grief and other difficulties. It has been her tool for a better life. While playing the violin has come naturally to Victoria, she appreciates this is much more challenging for her students. In this Empowered Conversation, I speak with Chantal Jackson, psychotherapist, somatic experience practitioner and spiritual care counsellor, about finding her way through a long-term trauma-related chronic illness. We touch on the importance of owning our experiences, willingness to go to the core of them, and bearing witness when we don’t have the answers or solutions for what is happening. Chantel challenges the current medical system, founded to handle emergencies but not set up to deal with chronic illnesses. She shares her vision for a more inclusive and care-focused model of healing.
