Keisha Tyree is a thirty-five-year-old author and mother. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, she currently resides in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area. Having been a lover of words and reading from a very young age, Ms. Tyree's progression into writing seemed to happen almost naturally. Starting out, she mostly penned short stories and poetry. After sharing her work with a few family members and friends, Keisha was overwhelmingly encouraged to turn her short stories into full length novels. She pondered on the ideal for a while, but it wasn't until she began working as a personal assistant to New York Times bestselling authors, Ashley and JaQuavis, that Ms. Tyree truly decided to pursue her dreams of becoming an author. Gestating her work for months, Ms. Tyree banged away at the keyboard every day until the last word was written and her debut novel, Heavy, was finally born.
Keisha Tyree's writing style is byproduct of the streets in which she was raised; gritty, urban, honest and uncut. Her work seeks to shed light on the untold stories from our nation's countless, and often times forgotten about ghettos.

"I write what has been termed 'fictional realism'. I give it to my readers raw and uncut, just like it goes down in every day life. I feel a responsibly to keep it one hundred. I don't write fairy-tales, and it's never my mission to simply entertain the readers, I write with a message. "Therefore, sometimes you'll need a box of tissue when you read my novels," he says without apology.
"Other times I'll make you rejoice over the way certain characters persevere. But you'll never be left feeling indifferent about my books," he promises.
From within his cell he writes to change his legacy to one that his loved ones can be proud of. "I want them to know that my desire to rise above the circumstances cannot be suffocated."

The free ebook series was a personal goal which author Jerrice Owens set for himself in early Spring of 2013. His idea was to release several titles over a four month period which would include: short stories, novellas, and collaborations all made available to interested readers who shared a passionate love for reading. He strived to giveaway 10,000 books and exceeded that goal in early August. Each book in the series is a standalone story and represents a wide variety of genres. The titles released over this time are listed in the order as follows: Cat Got Your Tongue?, I Would Have Left Her…., Something About That Booty, Platinum Plus, Graham Park, Damned for Eternity, His Freaky Self, Pissed Off By Plenty…Shitted on By All, and A Whole Bunch of Nothin’. Thrilled to have accomplished this goal, penning types of stories from romance to horror, he looks at this as a night of celebration with all of those who’ve supported his venture.
I am loving Dave Chappelle right now, I became the butt of his jokes at the Oddball Festival in Hartford, CT. He was hit hard by bad reviews for being heckled by the audience. I was front row and all I saw was love for the comedic genius. He made not telling jokes funny as hell. Listen to 8 minutes of audio of the show and judge for yourself. I will give you a first hand account of what actually went down. Listen and learn don't believe everything you read in the media.

Clever Black was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in March of 1973. He and his immediate family left New Orleans on August 28, 2005 to escape hurricane Katrina and they never returned to the city. Clever Black and his family now call Charlotte, North Carolina home. "The ninth ward, for me was a place of happiness, sorrow, despair, hopelessness, love, success and tragedy. I learned so much in just that small piece of real estate. I learned to deal with life's problems head on. I learned to love and care for others. I've witnessed so many of my friends and peers perish on the streets, that the most powerful lesson I've learned was not to succumb to the attitude that 'it won't happen to me'. I have a deep appreciation for life and through writing, I release a lot of the penned-up emotions that have been with me since my teen years. I look at all that's going on the world and I feel sorry for all the people I knew personally that were murdered on the streets of New Orleans. I wonder what they would've become. I, too, was a child of the streets, but I, by the grace of God survived those dramatic, and confusing times. I grew wiser over the years and now I have goals and dreams that are getting ever closer and more attainable. Unlike in the past, I now have hope." Clever Black.

Marie Norfleet, a jack of many trades; is a fairly new face in the literary world, bursting onto the scene, ready and willing to share her stories. Since she was a young child, writing became a significant factor in her life, often her escape from the reality of the real world. As life’s obstacles began to take their positions and the hurdles became harder to jump over, her love for writing slowly died. But at the tender age of 22, having been through many trials & tribulations in her young life, from abusive relationships, teen pregnancy, homelessness and prostitution to finding love, getting married and starting a family; Marie picked up her pen again. Writing a memoir like story with an urban fictional twist, Marie entitled the book “This Game Called Life”. The title came from an expression Marie heard a lot while growing up “Life is like a card game, either you play the hand you were dealt or you fold”. With the success of her book, Marie decided to submit her story to, G Street Chronicles, a major publishing house in Urban Literature. She signed a contract with them in July of 2012. A decision was collectively made, to pull the book from its online retailers; “This “Game Called Life” was revised and re-released on August 25 2012. Due to irreconcilable differences, G Street Chronicles and Marie parted ways in December of 2012. Marie has since, started her own publishing company Game Changing Publications. She has five dedicated authors signed to her house and together they have hopes of bringing a different flavor to the literature world in a whole. Marie, with the help of Marcus Wroten (one of her signed authors) also has started up her own digital magazine, entitled The Game Changer’s Lounge.
Euftis Emery began writing explicit 'reality based' erotica in 2004 with his first anthology "Off the Chain".
Euftis tells his stories from a male perspective using witty humor using words to paint vivid pictures in the readers mind. Whereas many authors are vague in their writing leaving much to the readers imagination, Euftis prefers a "fly on the wall" approach making the reader feel like a voyeur.
This separates his work from a big percentage of the erotica market.

My life is a book. A book that if I actually took the time to write, you wouldn't be able to put down, until after you had absorbed and digested every sentence, every single word. Page after page; chapter after chapter of tears, laughter, poverty, incarceration, anger, oppression, pain and change. Most importantly though is the change. Any animal that doesn't change and adapt to their environment eventually becomes a casualty of that environment! That's exactly what I was... an animal from Greenville S.C. that preyed upon anything and anybody that would get me paid. Eventually this mind state led me to a lifetime of being incarcerated in one institution after another. First juvenile and then as I became more brazen and my crimes bolder and more reckless, the penitentiary. Sentenced to 10 years in one of the nastiest, most oppressive correctional systems in America for bank robbery I continued to unconsciously rebel against the system. Then I discovered the power of words and how when writing them I was allowed a brief reprieve from the stifling, oppressive, violent environment in which I lived. So I started writing. It became my escape, my salvation. Learning that I had the ability to make people feel my words, my stories, let me know that I could be something else besides a career criminal. The talent to write allowed me the ability to change and also gave me another avenue to express my anger at a system that had stacked the deck against me and so many others like me from the very first day we came into existence. My life is a book. Keep reading...and enjoy.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio Jade Jones is fairly new to the world of urban literature. In 2008, at the age of eighteen, Jade enrolled in Cleveland State University, where she lived on campus for two years and majored in Film and Digital Media. However, instead of continuing with her education, Jade decided to go a different route. In late 2011, Jade decided to look into self-publishing. It was in January of 2012 when she published her first book, ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. An intense story about one brother’s reckless behavior and bad decision making that ultimately changes him and his twin brother’s lives forever. Following her first release, Jade Jones has released several other titles consecutively. Sometimes even dropping two books in the same month. A few of her titles include “You, Me and He”, “A Day in The Life”, “Cameron”, and “Ghetto Pocahontas”. Not only does Jade Jones write urban fiction, but she also dabbles in romance, erotica and suspense. She believes that if she tries her hand writing in several different genres, she will be able to expand her creativity. Most of Jade Jones’ books such as "A Day in the Life" and "Cameron" were inspired by real life events as well as trials and tribulations that she faced in life. In addition to being a self-published author, Jade Jones is also trying her hand at screenwriting where she hopes to see her books transform into full length films. Jade currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio. She has no children and as of now she is working on her sequel to her full length novel, “Cameron”.

Stuff Happens is my personal story of the effects Hurricane Katrina had on my life. There are many others out there with similar experiences; however, I decided to share my personal experiences in hopes of touching someone’s life. Throughout the book, I will discuss my experiences before, during and after Hurricane Katrina. She took things from my life along with bringing other things into my life both good and bad. Katrina triggered a string of events that turned my life into a roller coaster for a few years. Even though Katrina took away my identity she helped me find love for the first time in my life. This special woman, who I am still friends with today, brought me from the edge of existence to the door step of prosperity. I talk about almost every aspect of our relationship mental, spiritual and physical. Along with trying to build a life with this special person, I was also trying to get my identity back. Losing my identity also caused me to lose real control over my life; for example by allowing small occurrences good and bad to have a large effect on my life. With God on my side and faith in myself I have managed to keep a positive attitude. I have learned things are going to happen but we must have strength and courage to live on. I have managed to sail choppy seas and break many boundaries in my quest to find my identity. Stuff Happens is merely my message to those who are out there facing similar circumstances. We can survive disaster by turning tragedy into triumph!

Author Kai Storm is a new face in the Urban Literary world, has brought us a shining jewel called Alani’s Bigger Hustle. Kai was born in Panama in 1972 and came to New York in 1981 with her mother. She discovered her writing gift as a junior at Boys & Girls High School when an English teacher gave her an assignment to develop a story from just one paragraph and since then, her pen was hot. Thru the years, Kai continued to write any and everything not only to keep her gift alive but also for therapeutic reasons, either way her pen and paper kept her sane. In December 2007, Kai was working at a hospital as a temp and even though the assignment was over the first week of December the hospital kept her on for two more weeks just so that she would have money for Christmas presents but there was nothing for her to do during those two weeks so she decided to pen the first three chapters of Alani’s Bigger Hustle. Only after she submitted the first three chapters did she decide to write the rest of the book “just to see what I would do with it”, and when she pushed this out, it was nothing but fire!

Changing the game, one book at a time
True to the Game by author and publisher Teri Woods has been undisputedly titled a classic. While working as a legal secretary for a law firm and juggling motherhood in Philadelphia, PA, Teri Woods completed her first novel, True to the Game. Teri Woods submitted her story over a period of six years to more than 20 different publishers, all of whom rejected her. When major publishing houses refused to embrace True to the Game, she was not discouraged. In 1998 instead of giving up, Teri Woods printed, bound, self-published and began selling hand to hand her first book True to the Game. On December 18, 1999 with the support and encouragement of friends, Teri Woods recognized the selling power of her story. She credits her overwhelming success to being a ‘hustler’. Teri Woods often slept in her car and on the couches of acquaintances, as she spent countless hous selling her books on the streets of New York. Moving thousands of books primarily from the trunk of her car she was determined to have her story read. Her grassroots tactic paid off; Teri Woods became a self-made millionair in just three years selling her novel, True to the Game. She landed a major motion picture deal for the book as well. With the release of True to the Game, Teri Woods has reinvigorated the urban fiction market and created a growing trend in publishing.

Meet Allison Edwards aka “Essence M”. The beautiful brain behind Illuminnessence Publishing, founded in 2007 by this avid writer/ reader who began her love affair with words at a tender age. Allison went on to create an extensive catalog of unpublished works including poetry & short stories. Allison’s passion for words began in early childhood, she had always been fond of reading about life, love, poetry and short stories. As she matured, she challenged herself to hone her craft, exploring various story lines and navigating into the tumultuous world of adult relationships. Throughout her teen & young adult years she decided to put pen to paper and indulge one of her fantasies, to become a writer. Some of her favorite authors include Donald Goines, VC Andrews, Jackie Collins, Judy Blume and ZANE. This eccentric choice of novels allowed her to see different genres, writing styles and what they entailed. Each were very different and taught her alot with regards to target audiences, storylines, and descriptions. Nothing prepared her however for her venture into Urban Literature.
Allison's first experience with Urban Lit began when she, as an avid reader received a message from one who promoted for a brand new unknown publishing company and was seeking assistance in promoting novels. Members would receive a chance to win free books and other spectacular prizes. Allison jumped at the chance and was soon an official Street Team/Pep Squad member of the "Cartel Publications" spearheaded by Essence Best-selling Author T Styles and her partner Vice President, Charisse Washington. They both would play an important role in Allison's literary career later on as mentors.

Once she saw how amazed everyone was with the gift she kept suppressed; writing became more of an outlet for her and those around her. Regarded as an expert in urban subculture, Cavario has appeared on several radio and television programs such as Court T.V. (on Surius Satellite) and over 25 nationally distributed DVD documentaries. Mike O was born into a two parent home and away from the gritty street life. However, almost as if it were in his blood, he was always fascinated and comfortable with gangster music and movies about the urban lifestyle. He soon found himself chasing the Black American Hood Dream to make it to 1000 Grams. Along the way he made the terrible mistake of being introduced to Crystal Flakes, the baddest bitch in the streets. Mike O shows us that even when growing up in the suburbs, the streets can still consume your soul. The battle of good and evil is in effect from the first pages of this novel. Which one will prevail in the end?

In the nineteen eighties as a misguided teen, Miz can only be described as a real bad boy with a good heart. Meaning, even though he was doing things he had no business doing, he would still go above and beyond for anyone he considered worthy of his loyalty. However, living the “street life” landed him in prison for 17 and a half years. He went to prison in 1989 and came home 2007. Tired of still acting up in prison, he decided to change his ways, and it was there that he took the opportunity to better himself and enhance his character. The change did not happen quickly but like all good things, it was a process and took time. While incarcerated, Miz received his diploma, learned trades, work skills, read everything from Donald Goines to the Bible, and had even studied African history. The change had to happen. He began to help children through various organizations such as: Hale House, Children’s Defense Fund, City Kids Foundation, World Vision, etc. This was nothing he boasted about but what he enjoyed doing. In 2003 after reading The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah, and being egged on by fellow prisoners because he had the gift of telling stories through rap lyrics, he decided to try his hand at writing a book of his own. Thus, BISHOP was born. He believed he could not only write it but also publish it in spite of the naysayers. He truly proved the saying, “If you believe it, you can achieve it”. Upon his release from prison, Miz travelled to Atlanta to not only promote his book, but also to speak to the children in two different youth detention centers as well as the Boys & Girls Club. He pushed out his second book, the sequel to Bishop; “The Bulldog Crew” and “Hater’s Animosity. His fourth book “G-Banks” is now available. Miz is available for book signings, speaking engagements, etc. He showed that anyone can change!

Interview with Treasure E. Blue author of HARLEM GIRL LOST PT 1 AND 2, A STREET GIRL NAMED DESIRE,KEYSHIA AND CLYDE and FLEXIN AND SEXIN VOL 2 Many have called Treasure E. Blue the reincarnated Donald Goines. This prolific author without doubt is one of the most shocking and controversial writers that we have seen in decades. Blue's background is as almost as compelling as his mouth-dropping debut novel entitled "Harlem Girl Lost". Using the streets as a means of survival, he soon found himself involved with some of Harlem's most notorious elements. Retiring from the game at the tender age of sixteen, Blue, who dropped out of High School after being banned from the entire Board of Education system, in New York City, managed to become one of the youngest people to receive his G.E.D. in New York State. Joining the military at seventeen, he developed a voracious appetite for books going on to read well over 2000 novels. After serving his country honorably, he joined the New York City Fire Department and worked as a Supervising Fire Inspector in the Bronx. Blue is a father of 4 and won praise for his screenwriting skills. He is also an active member of the American Studies Association. Blue has an uncanny way of not only telling a story, he makes you feel it emotionally as well. Talent: Comedian/Actor/Host
DOB: 01/23/1900
All my life I always loved to laugh and make other people laugh as well. As early as 7 years old I started working on my comic skills. I did my first play when I was in second grade and from the applause that I received from the audience I realized that they enjoyed my talent and at that early tender age, was encouraged to pursue acting. At age 12 I did my first stand up comedy act, at my family’s reunion. They were strongly impressed and that too encouraged me further. At the age of 14 my imagination and inborn intellect allowed me to start writing jokes. I was amused at my jokes and at times wondered if they were of my own writing. It was at this point, I knew what I definitely wanted to do in life and endeavored to do so, which is to write as a comedian/ actor. I was promoted by “Laugh with Me Dance With me” Entertainment, in june 2005. As I started pushing my way into comedy clubs trying to get my “big break” as a comedian. I’ve performed at churches, schools, and private functions such as ;birthday parties, weddings and anniversaries. This allowed me to show my versatility, during my routines. I have been doing stand up for five years, it is my second love. God Almighty is my first!!!!!

Beau Bostic was born in Brooklyn, New York, USA. The youngest of all his siblings Beau was left behind and by himself often. Inspired by fierce neighborhood rap battles Bostic developed an above average talent to rhyme very quickly. Outside of wowing his friends at school, girlfriends and gaining acceptance as the youngest in the local “Street Cyphers” Beau never took his talent seriously. Instead he chose to become a college graduate and a business man. While sharpening his skills in business Beau never stopped writing. What started as a diary of his trials and tribulations as a young man; evolved into a therapeutic release of his unedited and uncensored emotions. Never letting go of his talent to rhyme; for fun Bostic put his life story into his art form. Beau compiled more than 20 songs in a two month span and continued on his path of being a successful business man. Always feeling alone and still moving forward with determination, dedication, and discipline there would be only one description befitting his mentality. “Bare witness to the rise of the One Man Gang” In late 2009 Beau felt a sudden, unexplainable need to be heard. With the idea of creating a “demo” and begging labels to hear him unsettling & unfulfilling; Beau opted to put out his music by himself. In the name of his two late grandmothers (Martha Williams & Rose Bostic) Beau gave Birth to his own imprint which would be “Martha Rose” Records. From a man that lives by the Phrase “If you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything” and “Carpe Diem” listeners can be sure to receive music that is heartfelt, honest, and nothing short of something special.
