In this episode of the Mind Games Podcast, Hailey goes solo to share how she was able to improve her emotional state in the face of uncertainty. It's not about spiritual bypassing or "faking it til we make it". Hailey shares a few powerful tips to help you go from low emotional states to better ones in just a few short steps. Show Quotes: The fear of the unknown doesn’t have to be fear. If your thoughts aren’t serving you, try and find one thought that feels a little bit better. When we can up-level our thoughts just one level at a time, we learn to slowly climb up our emotional scale into eventually feeing better. We have the power to choose how we want to feel, and knowing that truth gives us our power back because we can finally understand that our human experience is up to us. Each time you have a thought, that thought is creating a groove in your mind. Are you embedding positive thoughts into those grooves? I’m doing this work. I’m in control. I get to choose the thoughts - and to me, that is the best part of this life. It’s everything. If you like what you heard, follow Hailey on Instagram @haileylott_. In this episode, understand what self care can look like and get in depth support from Hailey on how to hold space for your mental health in these challenging times. Some of the core tenets of self care that Hailey discusses are how to grieve, rest, get curious, have self compassion, and find gratitude. Quotes: "People of color are going through a re-traumatization. Going back to past racist experiences and grieving them now." - Hailey "I compromised my own safety, myself, because I wanted other people to feel comfortable instead of prioritizing myself." - Hailey "This work is not easy - and - I recognize that it is the ultimate catalyst for growth." - Hailey "The spiritual path is not always love and light. It's yin and yang, up and down, light and dark. We have to have both to have this human experience." - Hailey "In your darkest times, I want you to remember that you have survived all of your most difficult days and moments so far. That's proof you can get through it. "Yes, the difficult conversations need to happen, but you don't need to have them with everyone. You only have so much energy to give." "You have the ability to process, carry, learn from, and listen to all of your difficult emotions if you choose to." - Hailey "The wellness practice is really about recognizing that our emotions don't define who we are." - Hailey "When we have a wound and we dive deep into it, the light can come through it and help us cleanse it and wash it away." - Hailey "Compassion does not mean always justifying bad behavior - it's being able to understand another person's experience without expectation, and recognize we all only have the tools we have at the time." - Hailey "When I remind myself of the things right in front of me that i'm grateful for, I notice an opening." - Hailey "I want less suffering. "Not everyone had family members who could share personal experiences of unjust events of the past, so they weren't aware of the true depth of racism. But today those experiences are being filmed and then going viral on social media, so a lot of people are not only shocked, but are waking up to the truths that some of us heard stories about as kids." - Hailey

"This isn't a new thing. It has been happening for years, so I hope we can educate ourselves on what has been going on forever. Take action in ways that feel good for you." - Hailey

“If we understand what helps us become a more resilient person, we can actually deepen our resiliency zone and expand.” - Rebekah Tayebi

In this episode, Ronnie and Hailey talk to therapist and family coach Rebekah Tayebi about mindfulness, yoga, and meditation as practices that can help us come back to our bodies when faced with trauma. Learn all about the resourcing technique used to improve your current state of mind while getting to know yourself. You'll also learn to recognize the habits you have acquired from your parents, and see how to accept what you want to keep from them - while rejecting what it’s not yours in this path of life.

Enjoying suffering is a great tool that starts with acceptance. As we deal with hard times like a break-up or a loss, it's essential for us to accept the situation and be receptive so we can deal with, and even enjoy, those difficulties.

  • Listen to hear the importance of connection and how to cultivate more in our lives
  • The science behind smiling at strangers the mini mental health intervention
  • “Our body give us so many signals, it has a reaction to everything we do, we eat, we feel, but we often don’t pay attention to it” - Dr. Ellie
  • “The mental health field has done us a disservice. It sends us messages and signals when we have experiences that don’t feel good that there is something inherently wrong with us and that we need to treat it. It's the medical model - you have a symptom, let's treat it.” - Dr. Ellie
  • How to recognize that we are having a normal human experience when the icky feelings come to surface and realizing that we can use this as an opportunity to connect instead of an opportunity to disconnect
  • “We tell ourselves a lot of stories about what gets in the way of us being able to do what other people do when they are being vulnerable” - Dr. Ellie
  • Fear - our biggest motivator
  • “Kid’s have an innate sense of joy. We get tons of messages in our lives from culture, from family, from doctors, that this isn't enough. That we have to work hard and strive to be enough. And through this process we lose the sense of identifying with that joy and sparkle and shine we all have within.” - Dr. Ellie
  • “We make decisions based on not being enough. If i do this then I will have enough value. The reality is that we need to do a lot less and we need to get know ourselves a lot more.” Dr. Ellie

Charles Haley joined the San Francisco 49ers in 1986 as the team’s fourth round draft pick. He developed into one of the NFL’s most devastating pass rushers during a career split between the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. He is the first player in NFL history to win five Super Bowls. Haley was a member of two 49ers’ championship teams (Super Bowls XXIII and XXIV) before his trade to Dallas. He earned three more Super Bowl rings during his first four seasons with the Cowboys. Haley began his NFL career at linebacker and led San Francisco in sacks in each of his first six seasons. He recorded four double-digit sack totals with the 49ers including 12 sacks as a rookie and a career-high and NFC-leading 16 sacks in 1990. Haley then suffered a serious back injury in 1996 that limited him to just five games. He retired after undergoing surgery. However, after a two-year hiatus, Haley resigned with the 49ers as a backup defensive end for two playoff games in 1998. He came back to play one final season in 1999 and added three sacks to his career total. When he walked away for the final time, Haley had amassed 100.5 sacks during his 169-game career. He was twice named NFC Defensive Player of the Year (1990 and 1994), voted to five Pro Bowls and named All-Pro two times, once as a linebacker and once as a defensive end. He played in six NFC championship games over a seven-season period. He started at left outside linebacker for the 49ers in the 1988, 1989, and 1990 games and at right defensive end for the Cowboys in the conference championships in 1992, 1993, and 1994. He was inactive for the Cowboys’ victory in the 1995 NFC Championship Game. Haley was a member of 10 division championship teams during his 12-season NFL career. His final season marked the only year he played on a team with a losing record. Prior to that, the fewest number of wins in a season any 49ers and Cowboys team recorded with Haley on the roster was 10.
