This week Dave and Joe, Chasing Tomorrow podcast co-show hosts, have the pleasure of talking to Keith Russell, born and raised outside of Dublin, Ireland. Keith is relatively new to the sport of ultra-running, he's run a sub-3-hour marathon, he came 3rd in the 107-mile Dublin to Belfast in 18hrs, has run 100 miles in just under 16 hours and he recently won the Irish backyard championships completing 63 laps. But the inspiring story is of Keith and Alanna Russell, Alanna was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, with no speech or use of her arms or legs. In 2017 she became the youngest person to complete the Dublin Marathon alongside her proud father Keith. Shortly after the race in December Alanna sadly left us, leaving behind a gift that brought a new direction to life for her devoted father Keith.

In March 2021, he set a new record for The Central Park loop challenge, where he ran 16 loops smashing the previous record of 11 loops. And he just finished the Colorado Crush (named by Robbie) 63 days, 1,176 miles, 308,981 ft of gain, including the entire Colorado Trail summiting all 58 peaks over 14,000 feet, and finished with the Leadville 100, quite the incredible summer, for sure!

But in September of 1997 Vicki was severely injured in a car crash while pregnant with her 14-week-old first child and her future was uncertain. Stephanie began running in 2008 as a way to deal with stress when her mother was sick. She started running shorter distances like 5Ks and 10Ks, eventually working her way up to the marathon. She completed her first 50K ultramarathon after the birth of her first child in 2015 and never looked back. She was relatively unknown in the world of ultra running until last October, when she became the Canadian winner of the distributed Big's Backyard in 43 hours to lead Team Canada to a third-place finish.

Keith is relatively new to the sport of ultra-running, he's run a sub-3-hour marathon, he came 3rd in the 107-mile Dublin to Belfast in 18hrs, has run 100 miles in just under 16 hours and he recently won the Irish backyard championships completing 63 laps. But the inspiring story is of Keith and Alanna Russell, Alanna was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, with no speech or use of her arms or legs. In 2017 she became the youngest person to complete the Dublin Marathon alongside her proud father Keith. Shortly after the race in December Alanna sadly left us, leaving behind a gift that brought a new direction to life for her devoted father Keith.

In 2019 Robbie ran 3,175 miles across the US in just 75 days in order to promote the benefits of a plant-based diet.In March 2021, he set a new record for The Central Park loop challenge, where he ran 16 loops smashing the previous record of 11 loops. And he just finished the Colorado Crush (named by Robbie) 63 days, 1,176 miles, 308,981 ft of gain, including the entire Colorado Trail summiting all 58 peaks over 14,000 feet, and finished with the Leadville 100, quite the incredible summer, for sure!

He has many records including the record for the fastest finishes in all six World Marathon Majors (2:31). He has won the US 50 km championship and the JFK 50 miler. Wardian won the Quarantine Backyard Ultra, running nearly 263 miles over the course of 63 hours without sleeping and he holds the record for the fastest 50K treadmill run. All while being an international ship-broker and a father of two. Simply amazing!

Just a few weeks ago she completed the 2021 version of the Tour Divide a 2,500-mile mountain bike race that goes from the Canadian border to the Mexico border. When she completed the race on July 7th, she became the 3rd woman to finish the 2021 race in just over 25 days. An amazing accomplishment for sure!

Ailsa is an established trail runner, ultra-runner, road runner, and triathlete. In 2017 she claimed the 50K and 100-mile Canadian National Champion title, in 2018 she won Ironman Canada and in 2019 she won the Pemberton 50K in Arizona overall and set the course record. MacDonald owns multiple course records and two overall wins at the ultrarunning distance. She is a force to be reckoned with.

This week Dave takes the week off and Joe Gagnon Chasing Tomorrow podcast co-show host talks to Katie Vesco and her husband Henley about their wild adventure in Australia in 2019 when they ran/rode from Durbin to Adelaide, 2112 miles from the north of Western Australia to the south. Katie started her adventurous life when in 2009 she was the second-youngest female to run across America. When she decided to take on another huge adventure, she was to be accompanied by her partner Henley who rode his bike during the entire trip pulling all of their supplies and finding out that her adventure had become his as well. The couple relay what it is like to go from 119 days with no outside support and the kinds of real challenges you experience when you venture into the true outback of Australia. A self-proclaimed middle-of-the-pack guy Will has taken on many hard ultra runs and says that you need to be a self-admitted SOB to keep going in these crazy difficult events. Seems to have worked for Will as he continues to get it done in hard ultras.
Dave and Joe interview Katie Wright; recent winner of the Tarawera 100 mile ultra in New Zealand. An M.D. and a newbie to the ultrarunning world, Katie is just starting to find her way into the sport. A "fourth" place at Big's Backyard with 50 loops has given her newfound confidence that kept her running hard to win Tararwera by less than two minutes, a blink of an eye in a 100-mile race. Seems like we are going to need to pay attention to Katie in the years to come.
Dave & Joe interview Conor Holt, the coach & partner to Camille Heron, arguably one of the best ultra runners in the world. Conor is no slouch with a sub 30 minute 10k and a 2:18 marathon but felt he would be better as a coach. He now focuses 100% of his efforts on Camille and is working to get her to break records in just about every ultra running category.
Dave and Joe interview Calum Neff. On January 17th Calum broke the Canadian 50k record with a time of 2:51:27 (5:32 per mile). Just four weeks prior Calum paced Sara Hall to her attempt at the U.S. American marathon record and he got a personal best of 2:20 in support of Sara. Calum is putting out amazing performances on the road while he works full time, is a running coach, and makes a lot of time for his family.
Dave and Joe interview Ryan Montgomery, a new entrant to the sport of ultramarathoning and he is making quite the impact. Ryan is a 26-year-old full-time consultant, a 100-mile winner, 200-miler 2nd place finisher, and Badwater 135 finisher. An Altra-sponsored athlete he is more than a fantastic runner, Ryan is one of the few openly gay athletes in the trail running world with a goal in 2021 to create more visibility and space for other LGTBQIA+ athletes to feel comfortable in the sport and beyond.
Hosts Dave and Joe interview Bob Hearn, a 55-year-old ultrarunner from Portola Valley, California. Hearn did not take up running until he was 38 years old with his first 100-miler being the 2011 Javelina Jundred. Bob graduated from MIT with a PhD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. His analytical background plays a huge role in how he plans his training. Hearn holds or has held several records in timed running events.

Anna has only been running ultras for 3 years and is already ranked as one of the Top 10 runners in ITRA Large. Living in the northernmost part of Sweden she is close to the arctic circle and truly loves being out in the wilderness.
