Hoving is the ambient and postrock project of Stuttgart based artist Thomas Kiefer. Although he has played the guitar since his youth, he has always had an affinity for electronic music. The shift in his tastes towards ambient music some ten years ago eventually lead to the conception of Hoving in mid-2017. Interwoven with his music is a continuing passion for photography, visible in his track and album artwork.
With an explorative approach in mind, Hoving's goal is to musically map the field between electronic, acoustic, and organic sounds. In doing so, he almost exclusively uses hardware synths and grooveboxes in addition to conventional and unconventional instruments. This hands-on way of making music allows him to mostly work away from the confines of computer screens and to let his creativity flow naturally. The result is an often somber, intricate, and complex sound, but one which is always calm.
The first EP "A Primer on the Properties of Air" serves as a musical introduction to Hoving, mimicking the atmospheric changes of differing altitudes and offering a journey through wide soundscapes and uncanny valleys. All four tracks were produced without the use of a computer and recorded live, partially in his home, but also on trains.
Since then, Hoving has collaborated with other producers from Berlin and the Stuttgart area, and has performed live at Stuttgart's Stadtpalais, Zionskirche church in Berlin, and at Schlachthaus Tübingen amongst others.

Thank you @jyocho_jp for the opportunity to do a remix of your track 惜春 (Lament the Passing of Spring)! It is my interpretation of a song by one of my absolute favorite bands - an ambient post-rock rendition of their excellent work.#remixJYOCHO #copyJYOCHOMy remix is not commercialized or monetized. All rights remain with JYOCHO and No Big Deal Records/Nippon Columbia._________________________JYOCHOさん、「惜春」のリミックスを担当させていただきありがとうございます!
"Upward" is a post-rock track at heart. However, it is not bound to the genre's tropes: It slowly and gradually crescendos, layer by layer, from an ambient soundscape and electric beats into a full blown almost shoegazy sound with overdriven guitar and drums. This way, it evokes a sense of hope, a new beginning after tough times, hence its name.Hoving's Socials: https://linktr.ee/hoving

Produced on a plane from Frankfurt to Reykjavik, which lends the background drone sound. Finalized and recorded in the Icelandic cityscape and wilderness. Everything was made on a Teenage Engineering OP-1.

I played a 2-note-chord into an EHX Freeze and thusly created a basic drone sound. Afterwards, I set my guitar aside. Everything you hear is coming from my pedalboard and its components, no other sound sources. 1 stereo track in Ableton, compressor and EQ. Done (maybe).
Happy for feedback as always!

A live set for the art opening of Artwalk Stuttgart at Cafe YOYO on 25 July 2020. I had the opportunity to perform in front of the fantastic works of Daniel Kilgus and Rosa.
It was the first time I (also) performed with a guitar and I played a lot of unreleased and improvised material. Please disregard the few times I messed up - first time playing this setup live 🙃

This is an ambient / downtempo live composition. Ralph Pambor and Hoving made use of synths, grooveboxes and the electric guitar to come up with what you hear. The whole track was recorded live in one sitting.

My inspiration for this song was the landscape where it was produced; the Swedish coast. That's where I sat down with a Teenage Engineering OP-1 and a Hokema Kalimba and started recording the waves washing up against the shore. I added a somber but relaxing Kalimba melody and finished the track up with synth lines and beats. The end result is an ambient/downtempo composition produced and recorded entirely without the use of a computer in the Scandinavian outdoors.

An attempt in granular synthesis and ....jazz? Yeah no, it's still ambient music.
I hope you enjoy it at least a bit and if you do, feel free to share far and wide! :)
Recorded live using a Bastl Microgranny 2.5, a Novation Circuit, a Teenage Engineering OP-1, a Korg Monotron Delay and Meng Qi's Little Karp.

My second track is trying to explore the downtempo side of ambient music. It was produced and recorded entirely on Teenage Engineering's OP-1. Thanks for listening and feel free to express your feelings about the track by liking, sharing and critiquing.
