Wired reporter Alannah dropped into the studio to talk about the Earlston Primary School Christmas Fair which took place on the 27th November 2014. Alannah is a member of Earlston Youth Club who took a stall at the fair where they sold fun items including Christmas bags and baubles, photo frames and reindeer dust.
Sarah and Xander from Earlston High came into Wired to talk about their school’s media group which takes place on Monday lunchtimes. They recently submitted an application to Youth Chex which was successful. This means the group can buy Zoom recorders to interview pupils and staff about school news. If you would like to get involved come along and join the media group.
In this interview Liam and Corran talk about work experience. When Liam did his, it was in a kitchen at Cornmill Court sheltered housing in Galashiels for the older generation. On the other hand Corran did his work experience in Edinburgh with the Scottish Parliament. Corran talks about his opportunity and how you can make the most out of your work experience.
Unheard Voices dropped into the Wired studio to talk about their winning Amnesty International protest song. The group won the Borders round of the competition with their song ‘Outspoken’.
Joe Bispham (13) and Cameron Rendall Reid (14) joined the Wired team but the group also includes Aaron Lee (14) and Lauren Batey (12). The group won £500 for their first ever song which they performed at the County Hotel on Saturday, June 7th 2014.

Wired is broadcast every Saturday night and is the only show created by young people for young people on Scottish commercial radio.
We’re currently looking for young people (aged S3 to 18) to join our award winning team. You will be placed either at Radio Borders or out in the community as part of your school, youth group or club.
You don’t need any previous experience but you must be keen to learn about radio presenting, interviewing, editing, production, reporting and social media.
Wired is a lot of fun and gives young people opportunities to make new friends and learn some great skills. Training takes place in the summer holidays and new members will join the team in the autumn term.

The Jedburgh Youth Summit took place in May 2014. Young representatives from schools around the town gathered to have their say on future youth activities including a new youth club.
The event included a youth media team who interviewed the participants about their views. Young broadcasters Stephen and Aaron joined the Wired team to explain more.
Chloe, Carolina and Katie from the Galashiels Academy Respectful Relationships Group dropped into Wired to tell us all about their amazing work.
The Respectful Relationships Group is made up of young people from S1 to S6. They all have at least one thing in common; the desire to make their school a more welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Over the last several months the group, which consists of around 30 young people, have been working hard to bring respectful relationships to the front of everyone's minds. They have created a range of colourful posters which promote consideration and kindness. Members also raise money for anti bullying charities through fundraising events like bake sales.
Their latest project has been to produce a moving audio production highlighting what respect means to each member of the group. The young people's talented efforts have been praised by teaching staff and their production will now be used to promote respectful relationships throughout school.

The music accompanying the piece is called 'Carry Me Through The Trees' and was composed and played by Alexander Cowan.
The YouthInfo@CAB team called into update Wired on their new film called the Domino Effect.
The team worked on the film with VOMO filmmaker Martin Smith. After a great deal of hard work the film is now complete and will be screened at a special premiere at the Heart of Hawick.

Wired's Liam Wheelan was at the Galashiels Academy Wider Achievement Awards to interview some of the winners, guests and teachers. The Wider Achievement Awards recognise pupil's commitments to their community and school as well as their talents and personal qualities. As a pupil of Galashiels Academy Liam was also at the ceremony to collect an award for his impressive contribution to the community through his role with Wired.
In his report Liam catches up with Alice, Carly and Cara who are in the pre production stages of their film about school memories. He chats to Euan Nelson about playing the bagpipes and Ally McGilvray of the Border Telegraph talks about the importance of recognising young people's wider achievements. Finally Depute Mrs Anderson explains what a success the event has been.

The Inspire Awards ceremony was held at the Volunteer Hall, Galashiels on Friday 14th March 2014. Wired were there to capture all the excitement and were thrilled to win an award too.
The Awards were divided into six categories: volunteering, community, sports, environment, music & the arts and an overall 'inspirational' category. The winners were:

The ceremony also included the presentation of an incredible 790 Saltire certificates to 233 volunteers aged 12 to 25. This amounts to a total of more than 20,000 hours of volunteering in areas such as peer mentoring and sports leadership.
Esmé Biggar talks to Borders Youth Theatre about their latest production. This year BYT celebrates its 25th anniversary and will mark the occasion with a series of exciting theatre events starting with Pronoun; part of the National Theatre Connections programme.
Each year National Theatre Connections commission ten new plays and invite youth theatres throughout the UK to choose and perform one of them in their local area as well as a larger theatre nearby. BYT chose to take part in this year’s event and were delighted to be offered their first choice of play - Pronoun by Evan Placey. Director Oli Bisset said “We chose this play because we knew it would be the most exciting of the plays to perform.”
The play tackles the highly emotional subject of transgender by focusing on Isabella’s transformation into Dean and the affect this has on him, his family and circle of friends. It is a love story about a boy who used to be a girl.
“I play Dean,” says Lauren. “He’s not confused but he is trying to adjust to everything.” The play takes on a twist with some creative role reversal. “Dean’s parents are quite confused about the transgender issues”, says Jack who plays the mother. “For most of the play the father plays the mother and the mother plays the father. It shows them trying to come to terms with their daughter’s change.”
The group surrounding Pronoun represents a different approach for BYT. Twenty like-minded young people, aged over 15, from across the Borders, have come together each week to prepare and rehearse the play. All of the young people are extremely keen and interested in pursuing a career in drama or theatre. This project has given them a unique opportunity to perform a challenging and punchy piece of theatre.
BYT will perform Pronoun locally as well as the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh as part of the Connections Festival. “The young participants are very excited about this opportunity to take this play to the Lyceum. This not only gives them a chance to perform in a large professional theatre in the capital but also to network with the wider Youth Theatre community and young people from all over the country. It is a chance for them to take part in something National. They are really looking forward to seeing the other youth theatre productions in the festival."
“It’s a really good show,” says cast member Alexander. “In all the years I’ve been with BYT this is probably the one of the best shows we’ve performed. A lot of hard work has gone into it.”
Borders Youth Theatre will be performing Pronoun at Kelso High School on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th March at 7.00pm then at Hawick Tower Mill on Saturday 15th March at 3.00pm and 7.30pm. Corin Anderson, aka CoriAnder, dropped into the Wired studio to chat about his latest album. He was joined by Conner Bevin, who features on the track 'Such Power', and Katie Templeman who filmed the accompanying music video.
As a 17 year old electronic music producer from Hawick Corin has written and co-written over 40 songs. He is also a talented musician playing piano, synths, drums and percussion as well as being a singer. Not only that, Corin scored 98% in his Higher Music which places him in the top 0.2% in Scotland during 2013. He has also been given an unconditional offer to study Music at Edinburgh University but may go to Edinburgh Napier to study the Popular Music course.
Corin has released three amateur albums and has nearly finished his fourth which is called Hyper Nation featuring thirteen tracks. They include:
The Breaking of the Heart – Corin says he has made several versions of this song. The first version consisted simply of his vocals and piano. The second was a duet with his friend Caroline Lamb and was played on Wired two years ago. The third was a solo song released as the ‘2013 Version’. This was a completely new recording with added sections and a heavier dance feel to it. The newest version is similar to the 2013 Version but features Leanne McFadden performing the female part. The music video was produced by filmmaker Katie Templeman and has been uploaded to CorinAnder’s You Tube channel.
Stand Up, Stand Out – Corin says that he co-wrote this track with Leanne. It’s about bullying and he is submitting it to Amnesty International’s Voices for Change competition. The music video was once again filmed by the talented Katie Templeman and will be released on You Tube in March.
Teribus – Is a well know traditional Hawick Common Riding song which Corin has given a very contemporary twist. He has turned it into a dance/pop song and says it was used as part of last year’s Common Riding celebrations.
Such Power – The main vocal line of this track was originally recorded for Jake Brown’s animation project with Connor Bevin providing the voice of the bad guy. Corin was so taken by the Conner’s vocal line that he decided to sample and loop the title line which formed the basis of the song. Katie Templeman produced an impressive music video which included various clips of Connor saying the line. It is now CoriAnder’s most viewed music video on YouTube.
The album includes plenty of other great songs. Many of these appear in the soundtrack of VOMO’s latest youth feature film called ‘Talent’. Wired’s Ryan Borthwick caught up with popstar Pixie Lott to chat about her new single 'Nasty' and forthcoming third album.
“My last albums have been a mixture of different things that inspire me but this is the sound of the music I grew up listening to,” Pixie told Ryan. “It’s very soulful. That's my favourite type of music and style of singing. I’m so excited for people to hear it.” Catch Ryan’s interview with Pixie Lott right here.
Carly, Cara and Alice from Galashiels Academy dropped into the studio to tell the Wired team all about their "S6 Last Memories" film.
The girls said, "Since we only have less than 4 months left together, we thought it would be a good idea to get all the year involved in something that everyone can keep and look back on."
And they would like lots of S6 pupils to get involved. They explained this could mean being interviewed on camera, supplying photo memories and pictures, writing down memories and funny stories. You could even use the film to send messages to people. Perhaps you have some more ideas the film team could include.
The girls told the Wired team that they are hoping to premiere the film at the S6 Leavers Assembly later this year.

During 2013 VOMO worked with six groups of young people from various locations across the Scottish Borders. Together they created an amazing film called 'Talent'. This is VOMO's first ever full length feature film and an incredible achievement for everyone involved.
Wired caught up with the film's cast and crew at the premiere screened at the Heart of Hawick just before Christmas.

Dom from Borders Youth Theatre called in to tell the Wired team all about the Melrose group's forthcoming productions. The junior group will be showcasing 'Happy Days' and the Melrose seniors will be performing the Sherlock Holmes classic, 'Murder at the Casbah'. Both plays will be performed at The Wynd Theatre in Melrose on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th December at 7.30pm. Over the last 9 weeks a team from Impact Arts, which includes musicians Grant Pringle ('Dawn of the Replicants' and 'The Stark Palace') and Will Thomson ('All at Sea'), have been working with some S3 pupils from Galashiels Academy on a Youth Music Initiative project. The talented young musicians have come together to create a super group, ‘The Blacklist’.
Saturday 14th December 2013 will be the launch of their exciting debut album ‘No Ties’ and ‘The Blacklist’ will be performing songs at 2pm and 4pm. Signed copies will be on sale throughout. There will also be the chance to see a documentary of the bands inception and the progress of the hard working musicians as they write and record their first album.

The S6 Media Committee at Kelso High School sent in a special news report to Wired following their interview with Matthew Hall. The Media Committee felt Matthew deserved recognition for raising £1235 to buy a defibrillator for Kelso High School. This is a small device which sends a small dose of electricity to the heart if someone goes into a cardiac arrest and could save their life.
The young people of The Rezz in Kelso chatted to Wired about Tree Dressing Day. This special event celebrates trees in rural and urban places. It highlights our responsibility to look after them and reminds us of their importance. The young people of The Rezz will be dressing their tree at Shedden Park in Kelso on Sunday 8th December. You can visit the tree, which will be dressed with colourful felt owls, after Midday.
A group of pupils from Earlston High School have been busy fundraising for a special trip. They are going to Peru to assist the work of the Vine Trust Charity. Sophie and Miss McDougal from Earlston High visited Wired to explain all about the excursion.
Andrene and Lauren from Recognize met with Wired to talk about fashion and stamping out mental health stigma. Recognize has invited some of the most influential names in Scottish fashion to showcase style and stamp out stigma at this innovative event.
