I'll be weaving a thread between the episodes to help you understand different elements of self-acceptance and its relevance and application in your life. The featured guests are Rachel Tapscott, Daralyse Lyons, Michelle Kuei, Seanna Leath, Aruna Krishnan, Fatima Oliver and Sarah Eames.

I conducted 19 interviews for season 3 of Changes Big and Small. Over the next few weeks, I'll be reading Radical Self Acceptance by Tara Brach and discussing it on the podcast. Feel free to read along and join the conversation. Or if you've read the book, feel free to share your thoughts and questions with me at contact@changesbigandsmall.com or you can live a voice recording by clicking on the Start here link.
Self-acceptance means knowing your strengths, weaknesses, successes, failures, and seeing yourself as worthy of love, of dignity, despite your imperfections. It means accepting who you really are, not who you wish you should be or want to be. It has no judgement, only truth. This sets it apart from the related idea of self-esteem because self-esteem only focuses on the "esteemed" or the positive aspects of yourself. Self-acceptance looks at all of yourself and likes yourself regardless of the "flaws", and it is essential before any transformation.
From the exploration this season, we know that there are many things that affect our self acceptance. These include our relationship with ourselves and with others, the stories we tell about the various facets of our lives and our self-image.

I love how Monica Sherese shows up in this interview. Her energy and her passion comes through, and there are so many questions that I had on my list that we didn't even get to. Be sure to accept Monica's invitation; it's something that each of us can do every day. Listen to this episode to get in touch with yourself and define your self-image.
A common theme in many episodes of the podcast, and especially the recent episodes, is for you to take time, get to know yourself, savor your experiences, find out what it is that you really want. Find ways to remove the external and outside influences that are putting up blockers or walls between you and the life that you can choose, the life that you can decide.
If you're new to listening to Changes Big and Small, go back and listen to the previous episodes because there is an action that you can take, an invitation, in each episode that can help you build habits. These habits can be steps along your path to living the life that you want.

Today's guest is Elizabeth DiAlto. Elizabeth has such great, fabulous energy. You can definitely tell that she is untamed and has been doing this work for some time because she speaks so confidently about her whole framework of self-awareness, self knowledge, self acceptance, self trust, and self respect, which are so important on our journey to living the life that we want.
Each of us can take actions and have behaviors and make choices. Those are the ABCs that you can learn more about from Elizabeth's websites as well. Those contribute to the life that we create.
Elizabeth has invited us to look at the way that we talk to ourselves this week. And I hope you will take her up on that invitation. Where can you be a bit kinder to yourself this week? What can you notice? What can you name? What feelings do you experience that you can actually sit with? What can you observe and where do you need to soften?
In last week's episode, the invitation was to tense and release the different parts of your body. And so if you continue these regular challenges, you start to see how the pieces fit together and how we can transform our lives by taking small, consistent actions.

The guest this episode is Dr. Seanna Leath. Dr. Leath and I have such a wide ranging conversation. We talk about black families, about mental health within the black community, about mothering and how Dr. Leath is currently thinking about that. A lot of her work is inspired by her own journey and because she's done so much research, she has a lot of resources to share with us, of authors and papers that we can check to learn more about the topic.
The idea of the strong black woman is a common trope within black American culture, and so we spend some time looking at where that comes from and how it can be harmful to women and girls in the community.
Listen to this episode for some ideas of how you can investigate how you are feeling, what areas you are struggling with in terms of self acceptance and what practices and opportunities can you take in order for you to develop your own self acceptance?

When was the last time that you showed up on video? Are you comfortable with being on video or is it a medium that you tend to avoid? Why might all of us want to create a video? These are some of the questions that I explore with Rachel Tapscott in this episode.
Rachel helps business owners share their story through video. She began her career in media as original news camera operator, then moved into corporate video production, which led her to start her own video production company That Camera Girl. She noticed the same patterns and limiting beliefs present with dozens of different clients around the idea of putting themselves out on video, and she experienced the same fear and internal battle at the idea of appearing on video herself. Rachel's purpose and the focus of her business has shifted from simply creating videos to helping people with their confidence on camera and their belief in themselves.

Have you ever found yourself hiding something about yourself? Perhaps you take photos showing only one side of your body, or you only share headshots to social media. If so, you will related to today's guest and her invitation will help you accept and reveal yourself.
Beverley Mapagany currently works as an Account Payable Administrator but she strongly believe that she has come to this world to be a beacon of light to those who are struggling with accepting their bodies and who are not free because they are afraid they are not how the world tells them they should be. She has recently embarked on a journey of being a Body Image Activist.
We'll continue exploring this topic over the next few weeks. Today, in addition to Beverly's invitation to look in the mirror and speak to yourself with kindness, with love. I would also invite you to do some journaling, to do some reflecting, to do some thinking about what is the part of you that you're hiding away, hiding away from yourself and hiding away from others. Reflect on this and as the weeks go on, I will be sharing some additional invitations, some additional challenges and resources with you so that you can make progress on this journey of self acceptance as well.

To start off season 3, which focuses on self-acceptance, I interviewed Claudia Ira Gan last week. Claudia and I discussed how some people have a skewed sense of self-acceptance, thinking that self-acceptance means stagnation and staying the same. That is not what self acceptance is.
Listen to this episode to learn what is self acceptance and for some ideas of ways that you can increase your practice of self-acceptance.

The guest of this episode is Shika Fevrier President. Shika is a conscious YouTuber and energy healer. Her intention is to support people all across the universe to heal, do their shadow work, grow and evolve. Shika runs one of the biggest content creation women's conferences in North America. Not so long ago, she could no longer see her purpose in this dimension. She felt like her soul had been taken out of her and she had no way out.
As Shika went through therapy and trying to navigate what she was feeling, everyone kept saying, Hey, it will get better; this isn't forever. It felt like forever to her; it felt like an eternity. She recovered from this traumatic experience by reconnecting with her spiritual side. She started meditating, energy work, healing, affirmations, manifestation, reflecting, and looking inwards to go through some inner growth. This made her feel connected, raised her consciousness and deepened her connection to her highest self. Shika now is happy to inspire over 70,000 people while healing herself. She educates others on spirituality and wellness, monitoring conscious entrepreneurs and beings that are going through life.
You can find her touring across the world, when we're not in COVID, bringing people together in the media world and doing other amazing projects that you can learn all about and join her on by visiting her social media accounts. Those links will be in the show notes.

Today, I'm speaking with Cindy Sharp. Cindy describes herself as a continuous work in progress. She loves to learn and surrounds herself with new ideas, skills, and ways of thinking that she can apply to her life to become the best version of herself and to share this information with others. She wants the freedom to design her own life and she believes that women should lift each other up and support each other to become our best authentic selves while embracing where we are on our journey. With this in mind, she created B-sharp as a platform to share the best content and ideas that she has curated all in support of women, breaking the mold, becoming their authentic selves and taking control in order to design a life that they love.
She believes that to do this, we need to invest in five life pillars: purpose, health and wellness, career, business and finance, relationships and contribution. Using the B-sharp platform, she shares information and resources related to each of these pillars so that together step-by-step, we can make small incremental changes that compound to create an intentional life that breaks away from the day-to-day hamster wheel and forced expectations to design our own lives.
Additionally, she's a Canadian woman currently living abroad in Berlin, Germany as an ex-pat, working as a business executive for a large global company. She's the mother of two amazing boys, an avid book reader, traveler, content guzzler, and fitness enthusiast. She's always looking for ways to find balance and create time, not find it, create it.
She would love to connect to women who are also looking to find their purpose and add value, to consistently learn and grow and to design a life that they love. You can find her on her blog and on socials using the links that will be in the show notes. In particular, her blog is b-sharp.co. Listen to this episode for a whole lot of resources and suggestions of a process to help you live life on purpose, with intention.

Kevin was born in Detroit in August 1967 two weeks after the riots that changed that city forever. It was out of these amazing circumstances his life began. Your Challenge Invitation from Kevin
Pretend your best friend's son was unjustly killed. How do you think you would help them?
Understand that as a community of color, when we see one of our own being killed, we take that as if they are part of us; they're part of our family. I need you to see that and understand that.
Another thing I encourage them to do is if you truly believe that you've seen the inequalities in society and you want to help, then we ask that you join us in these protests or doing something to make a change.
And if you're really, really, really committed to change, it means that you've got to go back and do the research and vote in a way that's going to create the change that we need. So you need to go back and research locally the candidates who support things like prison reform and are against the horrible way that we treat immigrants.

Currently, I'm focused on a special series exploring equality, justice, and anti-racism. Today, I'm speaking with Bryon Summers who lives in New Jersey. I contacted Bryon after seeing this photo on Instagram. I explained to him that this is why I contacted him. The podcast starts with his response to my confirmation.
Bryon Summers has honed his craft as a portrait photographer, capturing classical images of guests of the hip hop and culture podcast, "The Combat Jack Show", in addition to hosting two of his own weekly photography based podcasts, "We're Getting Better" and "Shooting With Shooters".
Since moving to New York in 2013, Summers has worked on personal photography projects that eventually led to art exhibitions in New York and Washington, DC after taking the stage at a Creative Mornings New York event, Bryon was bitten by the speaking bug. Since then he has used his experiences in media, fine arts and personal life to share with audiences.
In addition to creating 'We're Getting Better". Summers has held educational workshops at universities and agencies about diversity in the media. In 2016, Summers has turned his attention to helping to change the negative narrative of black men with the goal of photographing 1000 men and boys with the "We Love You" project. The series was installed as a mural in DC, as well as online with the Google Cultural Institute.
Amongst other topics, Bryon and I talk about social change movements, being a black man in America and racism, demonstrating and other forms of activism.

This is a special episode of Changes BIG and small. I put out this episode in support of justice for George Floyd, who was killed when a police office knelt on his neck for 8 minutes 46 seconds while he cried for his life. I support justice for Breonna Taylor who was killed in her own home. There is a long list of black men and women who have been killed by the police in the United States including Dominique Clayton, Eric Reason, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, Eric Garner, Ahmaud Arbery. I'm not American but I kneel with you and support the fight for justice. Black Lives Matter.

Devin Williams is the host of the Sour Topics podcast for men’s mental health and self-help. He is also the blogger of Devinism.com a guide for millennial entrepreneurs. Devin is the father of 4 and lives in Maryland. I interviewed Devin on May 21, so we chat about coronavirus and its effect on his family. Because Devin is considered an essential worker, his routine hasn't changed that much during coronavirus. Given the topic of Devin's podcast, we also discuss difficult conversations.
Topics in this episode include work, marriage and separation, raising children, mental health, suicide and depression. Devin shares how he is taking action towards your dreams and he challenges men to a vulnerable act that can improve their marriage. However, this challenge can apply to anyone and any type of relationship.
Go to your partner and ask them what you can do better. And ask them what you are not doing. Give them the opportunity to say the thing that they hold back because they don't want to cause trouble. Those are the things that cause problems. They carry into other situations and heighten the anger and discontent in your relationship.

In this episode, I share an update from last week's guest as well as several responses from previous guests on how they are finding joy during coronavirus.
Last week, I shared an interview that I recorded in March with Deirdre Nelson. I reached out to her to find out how life has changed over the past two months, to find out what life is like for her during coronavirus.
I also got some updates from some other previous guests on Changes BIG and small. Here's a voice memo that Kim Cofino, my first guest on the podcast, shared:

Correction: Queen Sono is the first original African series. It is South African, not Nigerian as I mentioned in the podcast.
I interviewed Deirdre Nelson on March 13, 2020. When we spoke, Prague was in the first stages of lockdown, and restaurants were still open until 8pm. There were only a handful of cases of people with coronavirus in Winnipeg, where Deirdre lives. In Prague, there were 141 cases. Since that time, both Canada and Czech Republic have tightened lockdowns and most people in both Prague and Winnipeg are still working from home. Prague, however, has loosened the lockdown and is continuing to do so. In a follow-up episode, Deirdre will share how coronavirus has affected her life.
This episode is not about the coronavirus pandemic, but as I listened back to our banter, much of which didn't make it into the final edit of the podcast, I was reminded of how much has changed in a relatively short time. If you or someone you love has been touched by the coronavirus pandemic, I hope that you are doing better. If you're grieving about loss at this time, I'm sorry for your loss. I discuss grief and supporting yourself or others who are grieving in episode ? of the podcast.
For the past few weeks, I've interviewed various people about life in the time of coronavirus while also discussing other significant changes in their life. As countries and individuals look at how to transition out of lockdown, we're beginning to look forward to change and improvement so that we are not confined to our home.
Listen to this wide ranging conversation between me and Deirdre about travel, teaching English in Korea, making friends, changing tastes. We even get into a discussion about The Cosby Show and other shows from the 80s. Through it all, Deirdre shares an important message, to follow your heart. Listen to this episode as inspiration to think through what is holding you back, and how you can find your way to living your life.

Emily started out working as a software engineer before changing to be a pastry chef. She didn’t find the passion that she was seeking there, and instead found it as a high school Math teacher. Along the way, Emily’s lived in 8 countries. In that time, she’s learned to embrace change and to say yes to new experiences. She also faced one of the biggest challenges of her life in the past few years. Join us to learn about Emily’s journey. I hope that you will connect with her message and find inspiration to pursue your own dreams.
