❤️❤️❤️ EPISODE #30 AVAILABLE NOW! ❤️❤️❤️ In this EXTRA special episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with one of my close friends Miles Blvd for an organic and uninhibited talk about growth, pain, music, loss, and love. A few weeks ago, he dropped his surprise mixtape “Language That I’m Deeply Ashamed Of & Will Regret Forever…” and this body of work is truly a poetic reflection of his journey and development in the past few years. Miles shares the deeper meaning behind a few of the tracks, what inspired him, how he’s improved as a Writer, and the theme of duality. We also shot TWO exclusive music videos for his favorite track “I Know A Bitch When I See One,” a song about Imposter Syndrome and self-loathing (at timestamp 14:39) ; and one of my favorite tracks “Did You See What GOD Just Did To Us, Man??” (at timestamp 1:01:29) which is an ode to the beautiful tragedy of social media. Miles and FILMTROVERSE both executed the vision I had for this shoot beyond what I could imagine it to be, and we are so happy to create and grow together. This raw conversation is truly a glimpse of what we talk about in our private time as friends, and we wanted to welcome the world into seeing how we view music, love, human connection, and so much more! …the last thing I want to say is that I’m SO PROUD of him, proud to know him, and proud to create with him. One of the best feelings in life is to be inspired by the people you surround yourself with...and to have that is humbling and incredible! _______ To listen to the new album, click here: https://odesli.co/vfsgjbpkt9j6c Music Page: Miles Blvd 📷📹: FILMTROVERSE Productions Location Sponsor: Eau Juicy

⚠️ NEWEST EPISODE AVAILABLE NOW! ⚠️ Meet Jason Sole. He’s an award winning Criminal Justice Professor, Author of the Memoir titled “From Prison to PhD,” and a Restorative Justice Educator for over 12 years. He’s also the co-founder of the Humanize My Hoodie movement; a fashion company that aims to destigmatize black people in hoodies. THIS CONVERSATION CHANGED ME. Huge shoutout to my Partner in Crime, Kim Cronk, for sharing this experience with me as we are further educated about what Jason is doing in his social justice work. In this episode, the formerly incarcerated Abolitionist talks about facing hard truths and accountability for the harm he’s been caused as well as the harm he has caused others. He is now passionate about reducing harm and healing others. The concepts of Criminal, Restorative, and Transformative Justice are broken down and defined; examining aspects of how each scenario addresses harm. “No one solution is going to work for everybody” because justice is individually defined by each person. Empowering people to live their most authentic lives in safety, liberation, and prosperity is deeply embedded in creating a community that addresses harm reduction and prevents future harm from occurring. So what is Abolition? In a sense, it can be seen as the provision or reciprocal exchange of services for a mutual benefit, the creation of opportunities and access to resources, the genuine relationship and community-building, and the holistic mentality of reducing and preventing harm. Jason launched the Institute of Aspiring Abolitionists, a campaign that raised over $100,000 in less than 60 days. The Three Pillars are as follows: 1) Reimagining community safety as it relates to restorative and transformative justice. 2) Developing effective community safety models. 3) Learning through meaningful dialogue and the creation of neighborly networks. This conversation has truly challenged the way I’ve seen myself and the world around me. It has helped me deepen the work I’ve had to do within myself in order for me to become a more effective Social Activist and Social Worker. My next guest is Catherine Emmanuelle, an At-Large City Council Member.  In 2012, she made Eau Claire history as the FIRST and ONLY Latina Woman of Color to serve in her government position. Nearly a decade later, we sat down to revisit some of her career highlights and recapped the influence she has made socially, economically, and foundationally in our community during her time in service.   Here are (just a few) of her political highlights:  👉🏽 Helped Eau Claire win the All-America City Award. 👉🏽 Championed the Confluence Project where she helped our community win a double-referendum, allowing the project to proceed. 👉🏽 Fundraised and championed a civic engagement program to have citizen design Haymarket Plaza. 👉🏽 Made Wisconsin’s Most Powerful Latinos list. 👉🏽 Brought the idea of Books on the Bus program that was then implemented.   👉🏽 Led efforts that brought the Participatory Budgeting to Eau Claire; a new process that focused on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion known as the Empower Eau Claire program. 👉🏽 She worked to support the newest Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Coordinator position for both the City and County of Eau Claire.  ...again just to name a few.  I'm so honored that she asked ME to help HER deliver her message and to share her story. In the short time I've known Catherine, she has already influenced change in my life and inspired me to want more for myself and my community. This was a game changer episode for me, and I sincerely thank her for allowing us in on her journey.  “Love is greater than Fear” - Catherine Emmanuelle for Eau Claire  Mentions:  Black & Brown Womyn Power Coalition,  Inc.  How To Run For Local Government: https://fb.watch/a29XEVKF1c/ Facebook Here: https://fb.watch/a2baQmocAv/ (Video Error: Should be #28, not #27, oopsies LOL)

Meet Aliana Sigala best known for her stage name as the Vocal Artist Naalia. She is a Bi-Racial Black and Latina Woman of Color known for her R&B vocals and soulful performances.  In this episode, we talk about her growth and development in navigating through both racial identities, crediting her positive self-image to loved ones like her Mom Mireya Sigala Valadez in little and big ways that influenced how she saw herself. But of course, externally, she still faced some unique challenges when it came to the intersectionality of being both Black and Latina.  We also had the pleasure of shooting two EXCLUSIVE live audio performances of her original song “Minor Harmonies” (timestamp at 15:13) and a cover of “Magic Hour” (timestamp at 23:52) for this episode. This was a collaboration with our partners at Hip Hop radio station 95.9 jamz and our sponsoring location Eau Juicy!   Also watch until the end for some bonus content. Something you never knew you needed until you had it. (You’re welcome in advance, lol).  Videographer: FILMTROVERSE Productions Audio Engineer: Sergio Sigala  THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! ⚠ Warning: This episode is for mature audiences only. ⚠

In honor of Mental Health Month, I sat down with my new soul sister and fellow Hmong woman, Gao Vang, to discuss the importance of addressing trauma and mental health. At only 5 years old, Gao's life changed forever. Her father was responsible for the murder of her mother, and then committed suicide afterwards. She shares the unique experience growing up as an orphan in the Hmong community, and how the death of her parents shaped the way she viewed herself and the world around her. We speak about the murder-suicide, what it means to be a "modern" Hmong woman, her experience in how she escaped an abusive relationship, and the continual need for mental health accessibility and education in the Hmong community. As a survivor, Gao now passionately and proudly speaks out against domestic violence, sexual assault, and suicide; aiming to empower all women through her platform: Bad Modern Woman.

“I truly believe everyone has a story to tell. Whoever you are, and whatever you are going through, I want you to know that you are not alone.” - Gao

In this Season 2 opener, I invite University Professor of History, Dr. Selika Ducksworth-Lawton and Tomme Suab Founder, Ed Hudgins to discuss the aftermath of George Floyd's death, and what we should consider in order to bridge gaps between law enforcement, race, and culture. What can we do to check our own blinders and biases? And why is "comfort" so much more important than empathy to some people?

Dr. Selika also breaks down the concept of "contempt" and dehumanization across political groups, races, and cultures, which sheds light on why there's such polarization in racial injustice reform today.

I also personally ask how Dr. Selika and Ed tackles talking to their own children about race and racism, and how to navigate through balancing out the realities of racism, while still delicately encouraging confidence and pride in their development.

We end our conversation about practical day-to-day action steps to continue to work towards change and unity.

In this episode, Brian Bethke opens up to us about his Hemp business, music, and new podcast "Coffee With Brian." We aboslutely LOVED sitting down and getting to know him on such a raw level, and was completely blown away during the performance of his song "Baby, I'm Tired."

"Brian Bethke is an American singer-songwriter known for his silky-smooth voice and lasting impact on the hearts of his fans and listeners. Bethke has seven self-released albums and is currently working in the studio on album number eight. Bethke’s music has been featured on radio stations around the world. EPISODE 1: PART TWO featuring Justin Jay Arnold and Dylan Martinson. In this episode, Justin performs an acoustic version of his newest song "Turn The Page" which was inspired and written about a friend he met a month ago in the Cities, playing board games until 4am.

"My friend was talking, and it felt like she was speaking in lyrics. Like what she was saying was coming out in the form of poetry..." - Justin Jay Arnold

We all discuss Justin's background a little, as well as the process of writing and putting together an original song.

HERE IT IS....OUR FIRST OFFICIAL EPISODE featuring musical guests Justin Jay Arnold and Dylan Martinson! As you can tell, we had so much fun joking around and chatting it up with our good friends that we lost track of time and had to split our session into two parts!

Part One focuses on Dylan's backstory, and a few shout outs to our favorite places and people. There's an exclusive performance of Dylan's brand new song "No. 4" appearing on his new upcoming EP in 2020, called "Numbers."

(Disclaimer: We ran into some technical difficulties with audio and production. We also realize through this first experience that there's a lot more we want to continue to do better in, and we appreciate the patience while we work on those things.)
