Laughter and Libations is about the intentional pursuit of joy. I'm challenging myself to be courageous and share my stories as I shake, stir, strain, steep, brew, and mix up my favorite libations and laugh my way into a more joyful life. I’ll share experiences that focus on self-care, home life, and work life, and I invite you to join me on this journey.

October has been a heavy month for me. Perhaps you can relate. This episode is meant to acknowledge this and encourage laughter to break through the heaviness and continue on this journey to increase joy in your life and those round you.
It's the beginning of the holiday season. Yet, I’ve found it hard to celebrate. I touch on this and share a reminder that we aren’t powerless even though so much around us may be out of our control. In the midst of it all, we can cultivate gratitude. I also reflect on self-improvement, which is a humorous and continuous adventure.

This has been a month of many celebrations including birthdays for my mom (Vivian), husband (Woody), cousin (Brian), nephew (Alex), brother (Arnold), and brother-in-law (Chauncey). Happy Birthday to everyone!
Also, Woody and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary and enjoyed what we call a wellness day together. We stayed close to home, tuned inward, and unplugged from externals for a little while. It was a reminder that down time can be exactly what's needed to relax and recharge.
I've been spending more and more time with my parents, and thought I'd share a few of the little things I do to bring joy to our times together.

It's crunch time for me as the end of the fiscal year comes into view. I'm doing everything possible to avoid burnout. One way is celebrating the small because all the little things add up big time! The smallest things can bring you peace, make you smile, lift you up, and spark joy.

This episode is dedicated to my father, Larry Campbell. On the occasion of his 79th birthday, we gathered together for an entire weekend at my parents' home in Cartersville, Georgia. Yes, I was on location--in the country--for this recording. Yes, there are special guests, and you know I don't really do that! lol.
It was a weekend that I'll never forget. Sitting down to have a candid Q and A session with my siblings was a first. Having our father present was a gift. Having my mother in the background was a gift and also funny at times. You can hear her in the background just talking, talking, and talking. I couldn't edit it out. I can only do so much. Listen. Laugh. Remember to celebrate every moment you have with your family!

If you've been feeling a little overwhelmed lately, you aren't alone. Me too! It's made it a bit challenging to answer simple questions like, "How are you?" Perhaps, like me, you need a reminder that there is always something to celebrate even when times are difficult. I know. I've faced a few difficulties, including a foot injury, during the past few weeks. It's been hard to feel free when walking is a struggle. Nevertheless, I found humor in this unexpected experience. I hope you can laugh along with me.!

The long holiday season can be a very challenging time for many reasons. Sometimes little, everyday things can help make space for joy. There is a connection between your relationships and the laughter and joy you experience. Perhaps you haven't thought about this. I've been thinking a lot about it lately.
Are your interactions with others filled with laughter and joy most of the time, some of the time, or rarely? What if you discovered you rarely interact with people with whom you laugh the most? What if you discovered you rarely interact with the people who bring your the most joy? What would you do? Could you change those interactions to increase laughter and joy (for you and the other person)?
This episode can help give you insights about your relationships and give you a starting point for how to change your interactions to align with your daily laughter goal and your desire for more joy.

Tough times do come around and for me, it's been since late July. Every time the phone rings or a text message pops up, I cringe a little because serious challenges have surfaced in the lives of family and friends in my circle. "Move towards joy. Don’t wait for something to happen or be a certain way.” This is the quote that I posted on Instagram earlier this month. In this episode, I share more about what I mean and what it could mean to you. Do you want to wait around for joy? I don't, and you don't have to either. You can intentionally move towards joy--physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This month I remind you to do what's best for you. Some may talk about you, and it may not be flattering . It's okay. Celebrate you anyway! If you drink sake, you might enjoy this month's libation. Get your shaker and muddler for this one! I rant about the strangest things I saw recently on Peachtree in Atlanta,. Drivers are pretty funny here. Then, I share something I learned about my favorite snack food--popcorn--and wrap up with an answer to a question about how I used laughter to deal with a difficult situation.

Hi Whiskey Lovers! I'm bringing the Whiskey Notes series back to the podcast, finally. It's been a while. I know. Nevertheless, it's here now. If you don't know, I'm still new to whiskey. If you're new to whiskey, this series is for you. Ask a question. Suggest a whiskey for me to taste on a future episode. If you're an expert on whiskey, share your experiences, tips, and recommendations. I'm open to suggestions!

We are halfway through 2023, and I encourage you to stop, do a self-check, and celebrate being you right here, right now. I'm not talking about your accomplishments. I'm sure your accomplishments are exceptional. However, I'm talking about you. In this episode, I ask you to identify at least one thing you can celebrate about you.
We're in the summer season! Light, bubbly libations are my go-to. The libation of the month is definitely a treat. Listen and mix at the same time. I think you're love it.
I'm on my health and wellness kick this month, too. I'm all about preventive care, and this month was filled with it. Listen to this month's rants for an important reminder for you and, of course, laughs! By the way, I went to the dentist...ha ha ha...again.
I wrap up with my made-up questions this month! LoL! It's what happens if listeners don't send in questions. Hey, it is what it is. I still have fun with it and share information you need to know.

It's time for a self-assessment, and mid-year is the perfect time to do it. You set your daily laughter goal at the beginning of the year, you focused on it, and now it's time to check-in with yourself. There's no judgement here. It's just a bit of accountability. You've got this!
In this episode, I share my approach to doing a quick self-assessment. I share my starting point at the beginning of the year and where I am now. I also talk about the six actions I committed to taking to increase laughter and joy in my life this year.
Guess what? I haven't met my daily laughter goal for the year yet, and that's alright. I'm making progress. Hopefully, you are making progress, too. Let's take time to stop and check-in together.

This month was full of fellowship for me. I was out and about more than usual, and I share those wonderful experiences. I also rant about my worst hotel stay ever at The Starling Atlanta Midtown Curio Collection by Hilton. If you're planning to visit Midtown Atlanta, know before you go! I also try a wine spritzer for a second time. The first time wasn't so great. This recipe is so much better. Try it and let me know what you think. I wrap up with encouragement for a listener, who is having trouble meeting laughter goals. I share reminders that are great for anyone struggling to meet personal goals.

When people show you who they are, what is your response? Do you accept it or do you wish for something else? If you find yourself wishing people are different than they actually are, this episode is for you. It's a reminder to accept people as they are and not as you wish them to be. It's a reminder that spending your time wishing, waiting, and trying to make people different than they are can lead to so many things that are the opposite of joy. You can choose acceptance and then move forward from there. You can choose acceptance and open a space for peace and ultimately joy.

I've been thinking about my relationship with the young people in my life lately, and I share a change I'm making to hopefully enhance my interactions. Perhaps you'll be inspired to do something similar. The libation of the month is another experiment! I make a single serving of rum punch using the strawberry syrup I'm made myself. Try it and let me know what you think. I'm open to suggestions. Rants cover an update on my toe nail saga! Remember that whole experience from last fall? I also give you a glimpse of my experience using the Duolingo App to learn Spanish. Let's just say losing doesn't sit well with me (Ha!). Q&A features a question about what to do when you don't feel like laughing and you don't feel joy. There's also a new question of the month for you to answer. I'd love to hear from you.

In this month's episode, I celebrate 35 years as a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority as well as the wonderful time I had on a trip to Negril, Jamaica with my line sisters (Swea, Sabrina, and Andrea). There's also the story about how Episode 50--a big milestone for the podcast--almost didn't get published, and all the details about my experience at the airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The libation of the month is perfect for the holiday season, especially if you love egg nog. Fun fact: I don't love egg nog! I am all about non-dairy nog. Both will work for this recipe. Here we are in the middle of the holiday season. As I mentioned in the episode 48, you can't hide. Even if you don't celebrate the holidays, you may still feel the effects from all of the external stimulation. In this episode, I help you focus on what's really going on with you. It's time to stop and tune in to your feelings, thoughts, and actions. It's time to figure out what you need to ensure the holiday season is what you want it to be or need it to be this year. I highly recommend listening to this episode with someone you think needs to focus on self-care right now. This month was a difficult one for me and many in my circle. I was reminded once again that life is fragile and precious. I was reminded that life is not something to take for granted. With this in mind, I prompt you to reflect on your health and celebrate what is going well for you right now. I really needed a bit of uplifting myself, and it was wonderful to laugh. I laughed more than I expected while ranting about the cost of a medication I needed, and I share my fascination with food and beverage containers with long "FREE FROM" lists. Free from sugar. Free from gluten. What is carrageenan anyway? You get where I'm going with this! Finally, I wrap up with a couple of questions and make my first announcement about a couple of new things coming soon in September.
