Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there.
When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn’t the only suspect when Sheree went missing. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life.
Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. The COLD team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren?

They also discuss the subject of “Sympathy Pains,” the case of Sarah Delashmit, a conwoman who faked illnesses for almost 20 years.
This week, Bob is joined by Eric Carter-Landin, host of “True Consequences,” where Eric focuses on telling the stories of unsolved crimes that occur in his home state of New Mexico. Eric tells Bob about his podcast production, as well as the story behind his brother Jacob’s murder, which remains unresolved. As suggested by the name, Brett and Alice are both currently working prosecutors and use their platform to cover some of the most famous cold cases from their unique perspectives. They then discuss the mysterious disappearance of 9-year-old Asha Degree. In the early morning hours of February 14, 2000, Asha woke up, packed some of her favorite things into a backpack, and left her family’s home. She was spotted by several motorists walking along a highway through dark, stormy weather. When one motorist approached her, she ran into a nearby forest never to be seen again. Shortly after her disappearance, some of her belongings were found in a shed near where she was last spotted, along with a photo of another young girl. Many believe that the identity of the girl in the photo may lead to answers in Asha’s disappearance, but to this day, the girl has never been identified. More than a year later, Asha’s bookbag was also located, and the circumstances in which it was found have led many to believe that foul play was involved.

On the fateful night of her murder, Lisa was supposed to be sneaking out to see her boyfriend, Dan, leading him to be a primary suspect in the case. In a turn of events, a classmate of Dan and Lisa at Shaker Heights High School would ultimately be indicted for the murder. After a lengthy trial and 10 hours of deliberation by a jury, this classmate was ultimately found not guilty and no other charges have been brought in Lisa’s case.

For the final episode in this month’s Domestic Violence Awareness series, Bob interviews one of the hosts of the “True North True Crime” podcast, Graeme. Graeme hosts this biweekly Canadian podcast with his wife, Kate, where they bring awareness to crimes, mysteries, and missing persons in the Great White North. They then discuss the tragic murder of Trina Hunt. In the winter of 2020, Trina’s husband returned to their suburban, Vancouver home after work to discover that Trina was not there. Having not seen or heard from her since early that morning, Trina’s husband reported her missing but searches of the area around their home turned up nothing. Months after her disappearance, Trina’s remains were located off of a remote road in Hope, British Colombia. The location of this discovery raised some eyebrows due to its connection to a story given by Trina’s husband about the couple’s movements leading up to Trina’s disappearance, but charges have yet to be brought in the case.

These discussions lead into an in-depth conversation about the subject of the Believe Her podcast, the case of Nikki Addimando. In 2017, just after a visit from CPS due to concerns of domestic violence that lead to an altercation, Nikki shot and killed her boyfriend. She took her kids and ran, only to later turn herself into police. Despite an extensive and thoroughly documented history of extreme physical and sexual violence perpetrated by her boyfriend, Nikki’s claims of self-defense would ultimately be dismissed by a jury, and she was convicted of second-degree murder. Nikki is still serving time in prison, but her case serves as a terrifying and tragic example of the difficulties survivors of domestic violence face in the American criminal justice system, highlighting the biases that result in a staggering number of women being imprisoned after attempting to free themselves and their loves ones from danger at the hands of their partners.

This week, Bob interviews Jamie Pultz, creator of the “Beenham Valley Road” podcast, as part of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month series. A former police officer in Queensland, Australia, Jamie left the force and launched his production company, Six10 Media, aptly named after the police code for “community assistance.” Since its inception, Jamie has produced several investigative podcasts, including Beenham Valley Road. Before diving into the subject of the BVR podcast, Bob and Jamie discuss how Jamie went from “fighting crime to fighting grime,” what it’s like to switch careers, and Bob’s new book idea. They then transition into a discussion of the case, the death of Kirra Mcloughlin. While in the police force, Jamie encountered Kirra during a domestic violence call, during which she refused help from law enforcement. Six months later, Kirra died from a traumatic brain injury. Her boyfriend claimed that Kirra had gotten into an altercation with his sister during a social gathering, but he did not call for aid until later the following day. When Kirra was taken to the hospital, it was reported that she had over 100 bruises on her body, and she was ultimately pronounced brand dead and taken off life support. To this day, no charges have been brought regarding her death, but thanks to the Beenham Valley Road podcast, public attention is being brought back to the case.

Two days later, the bodies of the four employees were found in a forest over 20 miles away. Despite witnesses and links to other crimes, the case has remained unsolved, and it is likely that those responsible will never be brought to justice.

During season 1 of his podcast he helped to breathe new life into the cold case murder of Tara Grinstead, which ultimately led to the arrest of Ryan Duke and Bo Dukes.
