Chris Ivany and Paul MacLean are two East Coast Canadians who host one of Asia’s premiere hockey podcasts. Tune in weekly as they make upcoming predictions, discuss what’s going on with the sport regionally and invite a variety of guests to the show to chat about their love of the game.
He’s a retired Canadian hockey player and now head coach of the University of Ottawa Gee Gee's who is known for his incredible skill, tenacity and his passion for the game. After a successful playing career, he transitioned into coaching. He's a decorated QMJHL alumni, AUS first team all star, Godfrey award winner as AUS Student- Athlete of the year, Canadian National University Champion as a player and now as a Coach. My guest today was chosen in the 2nd round, 51st overall in the 1999 NHL entry draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. His career saw him play more than 850 professional games over a 16 year period across 3 continents. He makes regular appearances on the Spittin Chiclets podcast and co-hosts, Game Notes, with Colby Armstrong. Please welcome, Matt Murley.
With a career spanning over three decades, he’s an eight time Gemini award winner while working due to his insightful commentary and engaging interviews. Perhaps most famously known for his role as host of Hockey Night in Canada and co-host of Coaches Corner alongside Don Cherry but has covered everything from The Olympics and horse racing to Rogers Hometown Hockey. He’s a husband, referee, author and is hands down the best sportscaster on the planet. His passion for the game, combined with his genuine love for storytelling, has made him a beloved figure and he is 100 percent on my Canadian Mount Rushmore. My guest today, born in Czechia, was drafted in the 2nd round of the NHL entry draft in 1994 by the Quebec Nordiques. He played 159 games in the NHL with Colorado, Anaheim and Chicago. His playing career spanned 22 professional seasons and over that time he accumulated countless awards and accolades including; a Calder cup, 5 NLA championships, 3 Spengler cups, a Spengler cup MVP, twice an AHL all star, an introduction into the Swiss Hockey Hall of Fame and his jersey is hanging from the rafters in Davos where he is considered one of the greatest players to ever play for that storied franchise. He’s currently continuing to coach the game he loves and I’m super excited to have him here with me today. Please welcome Josef Marha.

My guest today was born in Pardubice, Czechia. Since 2015 has played over 400 NHL games with Detroit, Las Vegas, Boston and now the New Jersey Devils. He’s a hard-nose player who made his way to the NHL by tearing up the Czech league in 2013. He won a Calder cup in 2017 with Grand Rapids while leading his team in points along the way. My guest today comes from a great Canadian hockey city, London, Ontario. He was drafted in 2004 by the Calgary Flames and went on to play 486 NHL games for five different teams. My guest today was born and raised in Fulton, New York. Drafted in the first round in 2004 by the Edmonton Oilers, he’s played over 600 professional games in 7 different countries. It's been three years since he's been on the show and in that time he's been through a tremendous amount of grief, loss and difficulty. My guest today was born in Hong Kong and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. After attending university in Seattle, he returned to Hong Kong to work for the famous Shaw Brothers. In 2007, he started working with Barry Beck at the Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey. Seven years later he and a few friends decided to start their own hockey program called Kung Pow Kings Hockey. My very special guest today is known around the world as one of the most dominant players to ever play the game. Born in London, Ontario, he was the
1 overall draft pick in 1991, an 8-time NHL all-star, a Hart Memorial
Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award winner, and represented Canada 9 times internationally. Over the span of a 14-year NHL career with the Flyers, Rangers, Leafs and Stars, he totalled 760 career games scoring 372 goals, 865 points and 1365 penalty minutes. My guest today is one of my hometown hockey heroes. From Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was drafted 109th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Throughout his career, he played over 280 games for Team Canada, won two Olympic silver medals (captaining the 94 squad), captained the Cape Breton Oilers and was named team MVP twice. He scored over 30 goals in three straight AHL seasons, and played professionally in Italy and Switzerland before returning to North America to finish his career with the Milwaukee Admirals in the IHL. After his playing career he went on to coach the Milwaukee Admirals, Halifax Mooseheads, Dalhousie Tigers, Moncton Wildcats and Woodstock Slammers. After being drafted by both the Hawkesbury Hawks(5th overall) and by the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL, he set off to start his junior career in Hawksbury at the age of 16. Three years later he moved east to join the mighty Halifax Mooseheads on the QMJHL and ended his playing career after five successful seasons with the Dalhousie Tigers in the CIS. He’s now living in Hong Kong, tearing up the CIHL, and working as a private equity analyst at Excelsior Capital Asia. Please welcome to the studio, Mr. Jesse Lussier.
My guest today is from the beautiful country of Finland. He fell in love with hockey at an early age and it soon became a big part of his life and eventually his career. He studied sports management at The Finland Sports Institute. After completing his studies, he moved to Abu Dhabi to do a work placement and ended up staying there playing and coaching for the next five years. In 2017 he was given the opportunity to help Thailand’s National Hockey Team at the Asian Winter Games. After the tournament he was offered a position as coach and the rest is history. He began here running the publication department at City University of HK, then in 1993 started writing a weekly column for the Eastern Express. In 1996 the Express folded and he began writing for TIME magazine, The New York Times, Forbes, The Independent, LA Times, Times of London among many others. In April 2000, he began at the SCMP, until 2017 when he moved back to doing more event centric writing. My guest today was born in Eagan Minnesota. He was a 4-year varsity letter winner, while playing in the top division of the Minnesota State High School League, captaining his squad and earning All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention accolades as a Senior. After prep school, he went on to play Junior Hockey with the New England Huskies of the Eastern Junior Hockey League before signing on to an NCAA division I program at American International College. After a 4-year playing career, a double major in Marketing & Management and graduating Cum Laude, he made his way to Hong Kong where he joined InetAsia and started his coaching and playing career abroad. My guest today grew up in beautiful Toronto, Canada. He developed his love for hockey at an early age watching some of the Leafs all-time greats lace’em up at historic Maple Leaf Gardens. After High School, he accepted a scholarship to Plymouth State University, where he competed in multiple sports. Years later, he found himself in the middle of a democracy uprise in Thailand and swiftly followed in his family’s footsteps by diving head first into the world of journalism. He’s been living and working in Thailand since the early 90’s and is known in Bangkok as “The Godfather” of hockey. My guest tonight is a fellow Nova Scotian and St.FX graduate, born in the beautiful town of Anitgonish. He began his Career as a linesman in the QMJHL in 2005. Only 6 years later, he signed his first contract in the NHL. He has since officiated over 600 regular season games, 64 playoff games, four Conference Finals and two Stanley Cup Finals. He was the captain of the Rangers for five seasons, a five time NHL All-Star, Memorial Cup Champion and MVP, WHL Player of the Year, twice suited up for Team Canada and was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame. He’s currently working with the Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey and helping develop hockey across Asia. He is easily the biggest hitter in Hong Kong’s hockey world, both literally and figuratively. My guest today vient de La Belle Province, Quebec, Canada. He’s had an amazing hockey career and an incredibly inspiring journey through life. He played 12 years of professional hockey in six different leagues, including 125 games in the AHL. He was an ECHL All-Star, in 2002 led the QMJHL with 596 penalty minutes and in 2013 won a championship in Slovenia. He’s now in Indianapolis working at the Center of Excellence as a success coach, coaching the U13 AAA Tri-State Spartans and he’s a mental health advocate. His voice and his message are of utmost importance. He’s one of the hardest working hockey players I’ve ever watched and a fan favourite everywhere he’s played. He went on to lead a private equity fund and now continues doing projects between Beijing and New York. He spent 20 years playing pro hockey all over the world including five different NHL and AHL teams, with stops in the East Coast League, IHL, CHL and a handful of European leagues. My special guest today is from one of my favourite towns on the planet, Antigonish Nova Scotia. Known for it’s hospitality, the Highland Games, and St. F X University, the Antigonish area has also produced some amazing athletes. In my opinion, he took on the hardest position in all of team sports, a hockey enforcer. His career has seen him play for fourteen professional teams, he was an AHL All-Star, led the league in penalty minutes multiple times is the most penalised player in professional hockey history and fought the toughest players to ever put on a pair skates. Like most enforcers, he was also a fan favourite who was always well respected and admired by his teammates. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, my friend, Dennis Bonvie.
My special guest today is from a place close to my heart, beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2003. He’s played in 6 Professional Hockey leagues throughout his career which has seen him lace’em up all over the world. He’s also been a winner, racking up an Under 18 Gold Medal with Team Canada, a World Junior Championship Gold and Silver, a Finnish League Championship and in 2019 an EIHL Championship in Cardiff. My special guest today is from beautiful Richmond, British Columbia. She had two great seasons with the Pacific Steelers of the JWHL, where she put up a point a game. She then went on to play for the University of Connecticut Huskies for four fantastic seasons and became the team’s assistant captain in her final season. After completing her degree in Sport Management she then signed with the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays of the CWHL and turned pro at the young age of 22. This past season she won her first WHL championship, was named an All-Star, and also wore an “A “as assistant captain. It’s my pleasure to welcome to ATP Hockey Talks, Leah Lum.
My special guest today is from Buffalo Grove Illinois. She’s had an incredible hockey career so far and become one of the most decorated female hockey players on the planet. She’s won 2 NCAA Championships, 5 Four Nations Cup Championships, a U18 World Championship Gold, 4 World Championship Gold medals and one Silver, an Olympic Silver medal, an Olympic All-Star and most recently won a WHL Championship with the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays. My very special guest today is from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Played his junior career for the Bonnyville Pontiacs in the AJHL before committing to play for the Union College Dutchman, where he enjoyed an incredible three years earning; First Team all American, First Team All star and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award in 2017. He then signed an entry level contract in 2018 with the Calgary Flames. He had two great seasons in the AHL where he was an Assistant Captain and played a handful of games for the Calgary Flames. My very special guest today holds a Master of Sc in political sociology from the London School of Economics, a B.A. in international relations from the University of Toronto, and a certificate in Chinese language and culture from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He held various positions at the Canadian International Development Agency between 1988 and 2008, working on programs related to China, Russia, strategic policy and international financial institutions. He’s been posted three times to the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, and from 2011 to 2016, served as Director General of Canada’s official development assistance in Asia. Since August 2016, he has been the Consul General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macau. He also happens to be a huge hockey fan and loves supporting Canadian musicians in the city. My very special guest today is from West Bloomfield, Michigan. He started his coaching career at The University of North Dakota in 2010 as their video coach. After four years in North Dakota he made his move to beautiful Newfoundland, to work with the St John’s IceCaps of the AHL for a year and then moved into an assistant coaching position in the ECHL with the Tulsa Oilers for 2 years followed by 2 more with the Jacksonville IceMen. In 2019, he made the move to China as the assistant coach of the KRS Vanke Rays in Shenzhen, helping lead the team to a WHL Championship this season. My guest today is from beautiful Newfoundland, Canada. At the age of 10, he moved to the (Greater Toronto Area) and began his “AAA” hockey career. At 15, was drafted 27th overall to the Peterborough Petes and played 5 seasons, acting as team captain in the last two. After a couple of years playing semi-professional and 4 years in the AUS, unfortunately was forced to retire do to concussion problems. In 2015, was invited to China to run a 4 day hockey camp, and after day 2, was offered a job by the host company. He is the founder and Editor in Chief of Harbour Times (est. 2014), a publication focussed on Hong Kong policy and politics. He’s the Executive Director of Self Storage Association Asia. He has worked for NExChange, The Economist Group, Penton Media and on Parliament Hill with a senior Cabinet Minister in Ottawa. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from McGill University and an MBA from the University of Victoria. Not to mention. Tonight I talk about the NHL stoppage, the CIHL playoff push and the Coronavirus. My guest graduated from the Medical school of the University of Hong Kong in 2007 and obtained his Fellowship in Orthopaedics & Traumatology in 2015. His postgraduate studies include a Masters of Science in Sports Medicine and Health Science (2013, CUHK) and a Masters in Public Health (2018, HKU). He’s the associate consultant in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Tseung Kwan O Hospital, and is current the Surgeon in Charge in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery. He is also currently Chief Medical Officer and member of the Board of Directors for the Hong Kong Lacrosse Association (HKLA). He served as the team doctor for all Hong Kong representative teams for lacrosse since 2013 and is one of the commissioned members of the Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science. This week I talk about the playoff stretch, the race to 50 goals and losing a legend. My guest tonight was born in Vancouver, Canada, and like a lot of Canadian kids, grew up with a passion for sports. Not just playing, but at a young age had visions of someday becoming a broadcaster. After high school he went to BCIT to study radio broadcasting. He began with a weekly sports radio show in 82/83 on the campus station. After graduating in 83, took a radio job at CJAT, Trail BC doing live play by play of LL baseball and both junior B (KIJHL) and senior (WIHL) hockey. After Trail, he spent six years working in radio news in Vancouver. In March,1994 made the move to HK where he spent 22 years at TVB, 18 years of those at The Pearl Report. My guest today, from Montreal Quebec, is known by many as Mr Hockey across China. He’s spent the majority of his adult life promoting and teaching the game of hockey across the pond in China. He has been part of the youth hockey development in China since 2008 and has done everything from coaching to organising international events . As well as recording and mixing the who’s who of the international Canto-pop business, he has been a major player with the growth of the Hong Kong indie music scene - building studios and working with and training local artists and engineers.
