ABOUT YOUR PODCAST HOSTS:
Jason Mollica is a professor in the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C. He has over 20 years of experience as a journalist, news producer and PR professional. Jason enjoys bringing that experience into the classroom to help students grow, learn and evolve into successful pros. Outside of the classroom and studio, you might find Jason at a movie, listening to music, or enjoying time with his family.
Megan Wagner is a professor of marketing at St. Bonaventure University, CEO of MW MarCom, LLC and author of Fighting FIRED With Fire. As a conversation marketing strategist and an educator, Megan embraces new ideas and strives to create a more humanistic approach to teaching AND mentoring emerging professionals. She's a very young snowbird, splitting time between Dunedin, Florida and Toronto, Ontario.

At some point we’ve all had doubts about the path we’ve started ourselves on. Be it classes, applying for numerous internships or jobs, as well as the work itself, sometimes it takes a village just to keep yourself straight. And, frankly, that is ok!
This week, Alex Crispino, Purpose Activation Manager at PwC, joins the podcast to chat about how she got to this point in her career. As a student, she envisioned a career in public relations, working on social media for brands. Months after graduation, though, she didn’t have that job, let alone one in PR. Alex’s path may not have led her into public relations, but brought her much more.

Maybe it’s a different city, where the pay is really good. All of these things are great, until you hit that inevitable bump. It could be a boss, certain co-workers, or just the work itself. We have all heard stories of workplace bullies, toxic work environments and culture. If you’re a young pro or even an experienced one, how can you face these pains and not feel like the walls are closing in? Megan talks with Tati Petkovic about the challenges faced starting out and what it did to her confidence as a person and professional.

Tati Petkovic is the founder of Moon Sign Supplies, an astrology-inspired accessories brand. She has been a freelance graphic designer for the last six years, is also a sessional instructor at OCAD University. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from OCAD University in 2014, and a Master's Degree in Digital Media from Ryerson University in 2018. In 2019, Tati started teaching Process for Graphic Designers at OCAD University. Tati has freelanced at multiple award-winning design studios in Toronto, Ontario, Canada including Parcel Design, aftermodern.lab, Weaymouth Creative, Cundari, and Clearspace Design. Previous clients have been the Art Gallery of Ontario, Flat Singles Press, Meridian Bank, Dynacare, Lake of Bays Brewing Co, The Leaders Circle, and BMW.

A veteran in PR and marketing, Breakenridge has counseled senior level executives at organizations including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Blue Star Veterans Network, JVC, Kraft, Nasdaq, PRSA and Siegel+Gale. She is the author of six business books including Answers for Modern Communicators: A Guide to Effective Business Communication, Social Media and Public Relations: Eight New Practices for the PR Professional, Putting the Public Back in Public Relations, and PR 2.0, New Media, New Tools, New Audiences, Breakenridge was an adjunct professor for New York University (NYU) and Fairleigh Dickinson University, and is currently an online instructor for UMASS at Amherst Journalism Department. She is a member of PRSA and has served on the Board of NJ/PRSA and the New Jersey Advertising Club. She is a C-Suite Network Advisor and also hosts a podcast show, Women Worldwide on C-Suite Radio.

The words “diversity” and “inclusion” have been top of mind students, university presidents, as well as employees and industry leaders in the last few years. A 2018 survey by the Society of Human Resource Management stated that 55-percent of respondents "very strongly" or "strongly agree" that their employers' policies promote diversity and inclusion. In 2017, a survey of more than 80 chief diversity officers found that 62-percent said that their positions were inaugural for their campuses—a sign that the chief diversity officer role continues to grow.
To gain the perspective of what colleges and universities are doing to address diversity and inclusion, Megan and Jason chat with Priya Doshi, a professor in American University’s School of Communication. Not only is Priya an outstanding strategic communicator, she is also AU SOC’s Inclusion Officer.
