The church is described as a family with people from multiple different phases of life and life circumstances, and wisely accommodating the needs of its people. Notice that the church became its own “social safety net” ready to help those who were in a helpless situation.
If the church is to be healthy it must have healthy leadership. God's instructions for church leadership points us not to skill or ability, but to character. Servant leaders in the church are held to a high standard.
Within the greater context of order in public worship, this sermon focuses on the delicate issue of women’s role in church ministry. The passage reveals the divine order for men and women in the church.
Paul sometimes can’t help himself; as he continues to expound to Timothy the importance of right teaching, he breaks into retelling his own personal story of how Jesus’ mercy and patience changed his life. It is this mercy and grace which anchors the believer and the Church.
