Josh Roberts is the principal at J.R. Irvin Elementary School in Midlothian, TX. Mac is a 5th grade student there. Together, they are changing the world.

Part 2 of our "Black History Month" series. This week, Mac and Mr. Roberts talk to two parents. One is an African American mother who has two children at Irvin. The other is an employee of the district and is a white parent who has white children, but has also recently adopted 2 African American children. In this episode, these parents share their vision of what a successful Black History Month celebration looks like at a school, their personal experiences within Black Culture, and how their perspectives have shifted as they have grown up.
Mac & Mr. Roberts talk with Irvin Elementary School Counselor, Mrs. Elizabeth Adkins, and District Social Emotional Specialist, Mrs. Shanna Malone, about social and mental wellness among students, how students can approach handling stress and anxiety, and how parents can approach conversations with students that the parents may not be ready for themselves.
Mac & Mr. Roberts have a fantastic conversation with two of Irvin Elementary's fantastic teachers. Mrs. Stevenson & Mrs. Thomas are African American women who reflect on what education can do in the fight for social equality and what a school can do to be successful at recognizing important African American contributors to the shaping of black culture and American society.
