So, what exactly was the Parliament of Scotland? How did it come into being, and what functions did it serve? Unlike the modern perception of parliaments as legislative bodies, the early Scottish Parliament had a more complex and multifaceted role. It wasn't merely a place for making laws; it was a forum for discussing and deciding on matters of national importance, advising the king, and addressing issues brought forth by the various estates of the realm.
One of the critical aspects we'll delve into is the composition of the Parliament, known as the Three Estates. This included the clerics, the lay tenants-in-chief, and the burgh commissioners. Now today we are going to end our three part series discussing Scotland’s participation in the Crusades as a whole. Learning about what role the Nation of our beloved Scotland played during these calls for war in the Holy Land as well as their relationship with the Knights Templar.
Although there were Scottish crusaders involved in every war, their influence and numbers were not notable, largely because of their concern that the English kings would syphon off Scottish taxes for the crusades for their own purposes, and because they were often at war with the English later on.
One main paper we are going to use and reference throughout this episode is THE INFLUENCE Of’ THE CRUSADES & THE CONTEMPORARY RELIGIOUS LIFE IN SCOTLAND from the University of Glasgow. For any further reading you wish to make after this episode.

Ultimately ending with the surviving sons of Malcolm banding together to overthrow their Uncle for the second time running and proclaim Edgar, one of the current living sons of Maragret and Malcolm, King of Scotland.
So let's take a dive into his reign today, it will be a one stop episode for Edgar sadly as his reign is short and isnt very well recorded in history but either way I will, as always, make it as connected and flowing to the last tale in our story.

Hello everyone and welcome to the History of Scotland, Episode 25.
So, in today's episode, with the deaths of Malcolm III and Queen Maragret came a small family civil war between the sons of Malcolm III and his brother, the last surviving son of Duncan I. Donald III.
If you remember from last time Donald headed home with a Scottish band of warriors to take the throne for himself. He besieged Edinburgh whilst Malcolms sons were weeping over the death of their mother. Maragret. Edgar, brother to Maragret and Uncle to her children, managed to escape the castle along with the sons of Malcolm and headed towards the English court to meet with the English King and their eldest brother, the first son of Malcolm III with his first wife. Duncan. Who currently if you remember was being held sort of hostage here after the peace treaty with William Rufus.
When they arrived at the court of the English King. They met and began plotting their revenge. For Duncan, the eldest brother and Norman Knight, to come to the throne.
