But, that’s not why we procrastinate. Procrastination does not have to do with you feeling motivated or necessarily stem from a lack of time management.

Episode 16: Boss Babes Tell All: Morning Routines 101

When you hear the words morning routine, what comes to mind?
For me, I think of this elaborate routine I wish to have where I wake up 2 hours before my son, drink my energy drink, workout, journal, read personal development, and maybe even get some emails in, all before I get my son out of bed.
But, that hardly ever happens. #momlife.
I want to emphasize the word elaborate, as I feel like morning routines is this giant trend that has tons of expectations placed upon it, and especially as a mom, that just does not work for us. We don’t have time to be elaborate, so we need to be realistic and efficient with our time, which is why in our first episode of Boss Babes Tell All, I am interviewing a wonderful guest speaker that is exceptional at doing tons of things, and still making time for a routine without it being 2+ hours long, otherwise known as @Teachinginpearls, Mrs. Chelsea Hilliard.
In this episode, we discuss…

Reading The Miracle Morning greatly affected how I view morning routines and the importance...” [06:20]
The miracle morning helped me start putting an actual effort into my morning routine, as it allowed me to...

“The struggles of getting up early...” [07:15]
Sometimes finding the motivation can be hard, as well as getting your body to adjust, but you just have to force yourself to stick to it until it becomes an actual response….

“You need to have nonnegotiables that are a part of your morning routine...” [12:45]
I typically like to do something to move my body and something that feeds my soul...

“Tips and Tricks for getting out of bed...” [17:52]
Not having your phone right next to your bed can help. Also, having something that you are looking forward to in the mornings...

“You need an effective evening routine to set yourself up well for the morning...” [22:53]
You cannot establish a morning routine if you are not going to bed at a reasonable hour...

Bio: Chelsea Hillard is currently in her fifth year of teaching in Cincinnati Public Schools. Her first two years were spent teaching middle and high school choir, as well as competitive show choir. She has spent the last three years teaching kindergarten through sixth grade music at a high-needs building with about 650 students. In addition to in-class opportunities for her students, she also offers afterschool Choir and Ukulele Ensembles that perform locally. Chelsea is a Curriculum Council delegate for her school district, representing K-12 Vocal Music, through which she has helped create curriculum and unit guides for the elementary music department. She is also currently in the process of receiving her Lead Teacher and Continuing Contract credentials and just recently finished serving as the 2020 Ohio Music Education Association All-State Choir Co-Chair.

Outside of the school setting, Chelsea runs a successful online health and fitness business that is on track to matching her teaching income. Do you struggle with kicking poor habits and creating new ones?
In this episode, we dive a little bit into the psychology behind habits, and my best tips and tricks for eliminating bad habits and replacing them with healthier, more productive ones!
In this episode, we discuss…

Habits are the little things you do frequently and repeatedly, and they usually involve no conscious thought...” [04:57]
Habits are short and sweet and should ideally be automatic without you having to actively think about it.

“How to perform a habit audit and track your habits...” [06:20]
I suggest going through your day and writing down everything you do that has become a habit, even the miniscule things...

But why is it so hard for us to build healthy habits?” [07:45]
Maybe you know what you should be doing, but you just can’t get yourself to do it...

I’ve been talking to so many mompreneurs and fempreneurs lately on how to better free up their time, and the number 1 issue I’ve come across is that they do not have consistent strategies for content creation.

Winging it with your content creation will not only lead to stress and frustration, but can lead to inconsistency and a lack of inspiration. However, there is an easy fix to this, one that has become a new favorite of mine as of late…….And that my friends….is Batch Working!

Today’s episode dives deep into the world that is batch working. We will be focusing on what batch working is, why you should be doing it, what you can batch work, and beyond! So, grab a cup of coffee, get your pen and paper and let’s get to work!

In this episode, we discuss…
“Multitasking is simply tricking our minds into believing we are being productive...” [1:12]
It ultimately results in us not accomplishing nearly as much as we would if we just single tasked. Multitasking reduces your productivity by 40% and can damage your brain and add raised levels of stress.

“What is batch working?” [3:22]
It can look like assigning specific tasks to certain times of the week or days and ensure that you ditch the task hopping...

“What should you batch?” [5:56]If it can be batched, then batch it! You can batch everything, from business to household management and beyond!

“If you are completely new to batch working, then start small, as going from...” [9:16]
If you’re only used to writing one piece of content at a time, then the next time add two, and then three...Get consistent at first before adding onto your schedule!

“My batch working process...” [10:23]
You need to write down your entire order of operations for your content creation process so that you can then begin breaking it down into smaller like-minded tasks

More-Time Mama Podcast:

Episode 12: Creating Kinder Business Systems with Marielle

I know that this season that we’re in with social distancing can be fairly difficult for some famliies both emotionally and financially, especially as an entrepreneur. To sell or not to sell? My clients are thinking of backing out. I can’t work on my business as much as I usually do because the kids are home. How do I cope during this time? Today, my extra special guest Marielle from Ivy & Elle Studios is going to be answering all of those questions and then some, as she is the queen of systems and automations and is all about helping you free up your time when you can, especially as busy mamas!
In this episode, we discuss…

You need to cut everything down to what really matters and what’s going to move things forward...” [04:36]
You have to be gentle with yourself and remember that every day is unpredictable with your kids being at home...

“Have a bit of a grey or white space period to catch up on things if you get behind...” [06:38]
White space helps you catch up in a pinch if things are not going as planned, whereas you will never catch up if you schedule out every little bit of your day….

“Look at the things that are essential in terms of your bottom line...” [08:35]
What is bringing income in the short term? Is it serving your current clients, doubling down on serving them to the best of your ability...

“Make sure you are also creating boundaries for your clients as well...” [12:04]
Tell your clients your new office hours, which may not be many if you are struggling with younger children at home...

“You have to train people how to treat you sometimes...” [16:07]
Sometimes simply deleting an app such as your email or Facebook will help you stop being at beck and call for your clients and is necessary for your health...

I know so many of us are now stuck working at home due to this worldwide quarantine, and for some of us, we are living the dream, and getting a sneak peek into what it would be like to work from home, or be a stay at home mom, or retirement, and it feels so good.

However, I know there are others that just cannot wait to get back at work, and there are others that are quickly realizing that working at home is not everything it’s cracked out to be. The world doesn’t stop just because our circumstances have changed. Now more than ever, it’s crucial that you have a gameplan going into each and every day on how you’re going to maximize productivity and see success, and that’s what this episode is all about.

I have compiled my top tips on how to be the productive mama I know you can be while working from home, and I’m super excited to share them with you, and hopefully they are easily implementable and you can begin seeing a difference in your productivity right away!

In this episode, we discuss…
“Stop drop and clean for 5-10 minute periods throughout the day...” [ 3:38]
And if you don’t stay on top of this throughout the day, then you are going to face a catastrophic war zone at the end of the day, feel absolutely defeated, and want to throw in the towel.

“Actually get dressed and get ready for the day.” [5:18]
If we show up to work in our pajamas and our morning bed head, then we are subconsciously allowing ourselves not to get any work done, and undermining the importance of work, and undermining ourselves essentially.

“Structure your day and work in time blocks” [7:08]Yes, technically you have more time, BUT we need to be spending our time wisely, and still making time for all of the different aspects of our day, and a really great way to do that and stop yourself from working all day long, is through the use of time blocks.

“Schedule out white space during your day.” [12:20]
This is typically a break or transition from block to block. It’s extra time that you are adding in, because we all know that kids are unpredictable.

In this episode, we discuss…
“Any business strategy that we execute is leveraged by our mindset…” [2:56]So often as business owners, we get trapped into thinking this one strategy, or freebie is going to answer why I’m stuck in my business...

The first step to making decisions….Intuition” [11:00]
This is trusting your gut, the little whisper that you might hear, that instinct you get before your conscious part of your brain comes in and starts feeding you doubt

“Another way to think of it is binary thinking…” [12:17]
If you think about a decision you have to make, it’s either a yes or a no, there’s no grey area, hat does your instinct say immediately?

Analyze the emotions or thoughts that are coming up around the decision…” [12:59]
Make a list of all of the outcomes that could come from this and you can decide am I leaning into fear or love, because those two things cannot exist together

“This is more about assessing your patterns…” [14:47]
Think about similar decisions you have made in the past, what was the outcome of a similar choice, and how do you feel about it now?

Time Blocking For The Busy Mama

Are you struggling to find the time to handle all of the responsibilities of motherhood and also running a business?
Are you ending your nights feeling burnt out and exhausted, and feeling like you hardly accomplished anything?

Today’s episode is all about time-blocking, and how it can help you increase your productivity, get major tasks completed, and also allow you to spend more time with your family, all within the span of a day!
In this episode, we discuss…
“You are ultimately in control of what you do with your time…” [ 3:55]
You can either be the master of your time or a slave to your time. The choice is yours mamas!

“Time blocking is where you chunk your days by blocks, assigning each block a task…” [4:35]
It allows you to schedule in items you need to get done, while also seeing how much free time you actually have after scheduling in your nonnegotiables for the day.

“The top mistake people make when time-blocking is forgetting to schedule in white space…” [9:35]You do not want to schedule every single minute of your time, or else you will feel like you’re having to play catch-up all day.

“I do not always time block for the entire week, as being a mom is completely unpredictable and some weeks are harder than others…” [12:10]
There will always be things that throw our days off, such as kids being sick, cars breaking down...

“Now, the eternal question: Paper or Digital?” [14:01]
Ultimately, that decision is up to you, but whatever you do, try sticking with it for a bit, and if it works, great keep it. If it doesn't, try something else.

Today’s Topic is all about how to incorporate prayer into your family time, allowing your kids to partake in forming a relationship with God early!
In today’s episode, you will hear from an amazing prayer warrior herself, Stephanie Calirsse, host of the 500 Seconds To Joy Podcast as we discuss what prayer truly is, and what that can look like in a family setting, something I look forward to implementing when my son is just a little bit older!
In this episode, we discuss…
“What is prayer?” [8:56]At its core, prayer is a relationship with God. It’s an intimate union with the lord, getting to know Jesus in our day-to-day life...

Do not get too caught up in the grandiose... [11:35]
Saying you need 30 minutes a day of uninterrupted prayer time is not realistic, and you can become disappointed easily…

Have realistic expectations.. [12:08]
When you’re a mom, realize you will be interrupted. Kids wake up from their naps early, fall and hurt themselves, and we end up getting frustrated because...

Start small with your prayers... [15:09]
We pray before every meal, even every snack, “Thank God for this meal, and we pray for all of the people without meals…”

Allow yourself to be stretched... [24:01]
There is power in being challenged to up your prayer game

Today’s Topic is a personal favorite of mine, as it’s something I directly help other mamas with- taking ownership of their time and not letting it own you!
In today’s episode, you will hear from a time management queen, Caroline Sumlin on her journey as a time management coach, as well as her best tips and tricks for owning your time as a busy mama through decluttering, routines, and more!
In this episode, we discuss…
Her Journey: “I love to problem-solve and have realized over the years that I always solve problems by creating systems or routines...” [3:18]

Moms don’t feel like they have any control of their time anymore” [10:01]
The answer is simple: You make a routine, make some systems, you simplify things...

“The first step is to simplify and declutter your home” [18:02]
Decluttering and minimalism is a trend but it’s also a trend because our society has gotten to a place where we realize we have too much stuff, and are thirsty for simple...

“A schedule is anything that has a time stamp to it” [24:51]
There are going to be things in your life that are scheduled. Your routine is the order or cycle in which something will happen in a day. It is generally the same order or time of day. You can have a routine within a routine...

“How to set your home up for success” [32:14]
When you walk into your closet can you pick out your outfit right away? Or is it unorganized, clothes everywhere, and a struggle? How are your kids toys organized? Do the baskets have a purpose? What does your entryway look like?...

“Owning your time does not happen overnight” [36:02]
It takes discipline. Give yourself grace, as it will look different throughout every season. If you are in a new postpartum season, start slow. Do not expect to try to change it all overnight in order to avoid burnout…

Today’s Topic is one that society tends to gloss over, as it can be controversial and hard to navigate- Postpartum Depression.
In today’s episode, you will hear from fellow mompreneur, Taylor Weaver on her journey through postpartum depression for the first time, what it can look like for mamas, and best treatment strategies if you are struggling with it and need help.
In this episode, we discuss…
Her Journey: “Postpartum Depression was something that caught me off guard the most ” [5:20]
Moms do not always talk about it often, and you might not even know that you’re experiencing it. We are used to envisioning that newborn life will be hard already, and it’s easy to confuse our preconceptions of new mama life with actual depression...

“IT IS OKAY TO NEED HELP!” [12:25]
Acknowledge you need help, and that the feelings you are feeling need to be addressed. Have honest conversations with the people that matter the most to you...

“Advocate for yourself” [16:48]
Fight for the help that really feels good for you and the help that you need. If your doctor is brushing it away, seek out other help…

Symptoms to look for when experiencing postpartum depression [20:10]
Postpartum Depression can look different for every mama. Typical symptoms might include crying all the time as a new mom 24/7, thinking depressive thoughts...

“What you’re feeling is normal, but is also treatable…” [27:00]

Today’s episode will give you the mindset shift you need on feeling confident in saying no to things that just aren’t serving you in this season of life as a busy mama!
In this episode, we discuss…

When you say yes to something, you should be able to say yes wholeheartedly- you should feel confident that this yes aligns with what will serve you best...

“Sometimes you really do need to pick and choose what is a priority in this season, what falls on the backburner, and what will never happen at all.” [04:30]
It doesn’t mean those things are any less important, it simply means that those are not the focus...

“Write down a list of your priorities in order of importance.” [06:32]Figure out what your top priorities are and spend some time brain dumping...

“It is okay for you to say no and you do NOT HAVE TO GIVE A REASON!!!” [10:22]

Do you have a process you follow when setting goals for yourself?
Do you break down your goals in such a way that sets yourself up well for success, and allows you to reach them in a timely manner?

In today’s episode, I break down my 7-step goal-setting process with you, showing you how I take a lofty goal, and break it down into bite-size steps that allow me to reach it quickly and efficiently!
