Binka Le Breton and her husband Robin are rather adventurous. To prove it, they drove from Washington, DC to Minas Gerais, Brazil 30 years ago. They bought some land there. And they built a rainforest research center. A few of their friends at the time swore they were crazy.
Since that day, they've worked to study, preserve, protect, and restore this South American nation's rainforests and resources. Their campus doors are always open to students and volunteers who seek to do the same.

Veronika Cejpkova joins me from Whisper Children's Hospital in Uganda where she and her team of doctors and nurses care for those in desperate need of medical attention. Often these children are orphans or from families who have no ability to provide this care for themselves. Veronika, originally from the Czech Republic, now calls Uganda home because, she says, "I've found my purpose here." She works day in and day out, making sure the precious people of this African nation know that life is beautiful, that they matter, and that they haven't been forgotten.

Apne Aap is a grassroots Indian organization that empowers marginalized girls and women to resist and end sex trafficking. They organize vulnerable girls and women into small self-empowerment groups, where they work to educate, encourage and equip them.
They are tireless as they stand for the obtain legal, social, economic and political rights of these women and girls. This organization was founded in 2002 by Ruchira Gupta. She believes no one should be bought or sold. She believes no one has the right to own another.

Thanksgiving Special: The Edge of Adventure is dedicated to those who serve and genuinely love those who find themselves vulnerable, overlooked, forgotten, and suffering. People in need.
The podcast takes us around the world to places that are hard to get to, places that are off the grid. To countries far from here.
But this is Thanksgiving, an American holiday. And there is much need here, too. So I thought it fitting to turn our attention to an organization in the US that loves and serves those who are suffering from homelessness.
As we count our blessings and give thanks, as Americans who indeed have so much to be thankful for, let’s remember our brothers and sisters whose lives are not easy: The nearly 600,000 nationwide who have no place to call home.
