Howard Hewett Jr. is a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter. Hewett rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the group Shalamar. In 1985, he left the group to pursue his solo career, but he later returned to the group in 2001. Howard talks with Carl about his journey in music and life.
Maxwell had his first professional appearance as a drummer at the age of twelve; his career began with blues guitarist Jesse Ed Davis. He then belonged to The Third Avenue Blues Band, who produced an album with T-Bone Burnett in 1969. In 1972 he moved to Los Angeles with the band Andraé Crouch and the Disciples. There he also worked as a producer, including for The Winans and Andraé Crouch. He also founded the jazz formation Koinonia with Abraham Laboriel in 1980 and was musical director of various television shows such as The Jamie Foxx Show, Martin, Living Single, For Your Love, or amen. As an accompanist, he has worked on recordings by Cassandra Wilson, T-Bone Burnett, Ray Charles, Billy Preston, Quincy Jones, The Crusaders, The Nappy Roots, Freddie Hubbard, Anita Baker, and Luther Vandross. As a music producer, he worked on the soundtrack of films by the Coen brothers ( Ladykillers ) and John Turturro ( Romance & Cigarettes ) and was involved as a musician in the film Walk the Line. Maxwell is currently a member of the band Open hands with Abraham Laboriel, Justo Almario, and Greg Mathieson. In 2007 Bill Maxwell was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.

Mr. Rose holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (2007) from National University with a Major in Human Resources and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership (2009) from National University. He is presently enrolled at National University and projected to complete the requirements for a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in March 2021.

George A. Mason has been senior pastor at Wilshire since August 1989. His three decades as pastor follows the pattern of his predecessor, Bruce McIver, who was pastor at Wilshire 30 vibrant years.
George is a nationally recognized faith leader, rooted in congregational life. He combines the prophetic and pastoral voices within and beyond the church. He has served in leadership roles with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Fellowship Southwest, New Baptist Covenant, Duke Divinity School, Perkins School of Theology, Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square and other local and global ecumenical and interfaith endeavors. He is the founder and president of Faith Commons, a multi-faith, multiethnic nonprofit organization committed to promoting the common good from a faith perspective.
George is the host of the Good God project, a weekly audio and video conversation sponsored by Faith Commons. He is a frequent op-ed contributor to the Dallas Morning News on subjects of public interest that intersect religion, such as public education, race relations and predatory lending. He writes a monthly column on public theology for the Lakewood/East Dallas and Lake Highlands editions of the community news magazine The Advocate.
At Wilshire, George birthed and directs a pastoral residency program that has become a model for other congregations nationwide since 2002. His book, Preparing the Pastors We Need: Reclaiming the Congregation’s Role in Training Clergy, was published in 2012 by Alban Press. One of his passions is encouraging those whom God has called into vocational ministry.
George earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1978 from the University of Miami (Florida), where he was a quarterback on the football team. He holds both the Master of Divinity (1982) and Doctor of Philosophy (1987) degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. His doctoral field of study was systematic theology, with a minor in philosophy of religion. His dissertation was God's Freedom as Faithfulness: A Critique of Juergen Moltmann's Social Trinitarianism.
A native of New York City, George has been married to his wife, Kim, since 1979. They have three children and five grandchildren. He enjoys all sports, including politics, but especially golf.

Klymaxx speak with Carl about the joys of being the first black female band with major pop success. Klymaxx is an American all-female pop/R&B band from Los Angeles, California. The band was composed of members Bernadette Cooper, Lorena Porter Shelby, Cheryl Cooley, Robbin Grider, Lynn Malsby and Joyce "Fenderella" Irby. Klymaxx was created and formed in 1979 by Bernadette Cooper (producer/drummer/vocals), the other original members included Lorena Porter Shelby (lead vocals), Cheryl Cooley (guitar), Robbin Grider (keyboards) and Lynn Malsby (keyboards). Joyce "Fenderella" Irby (bass/vocals/producer) joined the band later, before the recording of their debut album. The women involved developed their core sound in rehearsal, with Cooper providing "funky diva" vocals on faster songs, and Irby adding a "pop sensibility". Their debut album Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman was released in 1981, and their second album was Girls Will Be Girls. However their first album to achieve national recognition was the 1984 released Meeting in the Ladies Room, which the band self-composed and self-produced.
