The latest episode involves the legends Matt and Nick from Buckled who have just dropped a ridiculously good album and are about to tour with No Fun at All (Shoutout to Emetic Art for the great work on the cover art). We talked about what went in to the process of getting the album together, the state of the music scene currently and some general chit chat about life. The biggest talking point from this episode is about Addiction (based off their single Addict) and how much of a stranglehold it can have on your life, how it affects you day to day and in extreme cases; people you know and love can be taken away from addiction. (I talk about my own experience, not for recognition but for normality) In a world full of ridiculous struggle right now, it's so imperative to look out for one another and build strong and healthy communities for all of us to not only overcome these demons, but to be done with compassion and understanding.
The second venture over to WA involves hardcore legends End it All. With a new release coming out really soon we sat down for a chat through zoom and got to know the guys, their backstory and what's next on the agenda now that shows are really starting to hit their stride. You also get a sneak peak of a new track at the end of this episode so listen through, or don't and just listen to the song, either way hype up End it All and get them over to the East Coast. A week after their show with Hadal Maw at The Outpost Bar, Pip and I managed a catch up at his recording studio to talk about everything that went down. As well as playing in two bands on the night, organising shows with interstaters is back on the cards and recordings booked months in advance for his studio, it's inspiring to see the love for it all still shine through and most importantly, seeing it all come together on the night. The last time these two were on, Adam was promoting Vestige's 2nd release? and Tegan was on promoting At The Drive Pin and From the Floor Up festival, which coincidentally over a year later is finally going ahead (cheers pandemic!) We get to plugging the upcoming Diploid weekender shows, the ridiculous festival weekender FTFU starting at The Junk Bar, arriving at The Triffid and finishing off at Vinnies Dive with bands like Rage, Masochist, Blind Girls, Outright, Salt Money, Apparitions, Shackles and loads more. This was purely a zoom call for logistical reasons as Andy is based in WA, he's the current honcho of loudmouth and crosscheck. We talk about upbringing, what got the label going, how it's been going balls deep in a short amount of time and a bunch more random stuff. We get off track fairly often on this episode, we're two dudes who were raised in the sporting culture, what else did you think was gonna happen. When we were focused though we talked about the comeback of the record label which back in the day had up to twenty bands going at once, the eventual need for a break and finding the spark to come back. This weekend starts that venture again with Driven Fear playing at King Lears Throne and Vinnies Dive Bar with interstate supports Knife Hands and Idle Threat. Lots of love for Ben and look forward to seeing more from him this year. He also used to play in a band called Vomit Bullets (super catchy dirty punk sounding) which is worth checking out in bandcamp, apparently they still have vinyls..

Big thanks for Ben coming on. He's a photographer based in brissy who predominantly shoots black and white, having a keen love for the same style I wanted to learn more. We talked about the differences between digital and film(he shoots on film, I shoot on digital, we both wanna get better at the other, it was really cool) we talked about some of the shows we've been too and taken shots at and basically where the love of photography started for him. If spooky, obscure and limit pushing artwork and photography is what you like, the Edentulous exhibit is what you're after. Named after a lack of teeth, you get an idea into the brainstorming and concepts Bridie has in being the mastermind behind the project. Storm as well as playing in The Royal Artillery and recently featured on Chassm's latest release has come on board and help build the exhibition into a continuing performance for artists to have a platform to perform. The next exhibit happens this weekend at the Station located in the Valley (near common house) with new show pieces and three noise/rock bands performing as well. Between her lack of sleep and my 2nd dose of the spicy protector, We pushed through and had a great chat despite our struggles. We talked about Sarah's upbringing into the musical world, where it all started and what it's like what playing in a Latin / Jazz / Funk infused crossover as well as a multitude of other bands in her lifetime to date. She's currently singing in Revelation Groove with dates to come and has her own solo music on CD and through bandcamp you can check out. In a fresh start to a new season of TSOE Tom Tanuki (Yelling at Racist Dogs, Independent Australia) and myself sit down for what will be regular chats discussing current topics plaguing the world and in this episode as an example taking a look at the 'Freedom Marches' and how these kind of toxic movements are formed and the kind of people they attract into their fold. We also touch base on experiencing people close to us that fall into these rabbit holes and start to spread misinformation as well as 'influencers' and grifters jumping on the bandwagon like Avi Yemini and Egghead as an example ( Will Connolly ) and how we can work as a community to weed through the garbage and follow the right advice.
If you haven't guessed this episode is definitely a guilty pleasure I've wanted to talk about for a while because I think everyone at some point thinks they can take photos for a living, get that perfect shot and have every opportunity thrown at you(myself included), but there is genuinely a lot more that goes into it all behind the scenes. Cat is an absolute gem with such a great eye for a candid snap and a bubbly personality it's no surprise to hear of her great reputation. We touched on the passion developing into a job as well as where it all started and what's next in store for the future.

Pins and badges were never really my thing until I started getting them when I buy cassettes from Teamglasses Records and found out Tegan was the legend behind it. We talk about recently signing her first band to the label (Regionals), putting on a music festival in the near future (Sneaky line-up announcement), and being able to use your passions as a drive to continue making art. Tegan's doing incredible considering her line of work outside of music has been pretty chaotic, it's a testament to sticking to what you love doing.

A spontaneous recording due to fire alarms and pure chaos, we catch up with Liam for a second time out in the courtyard of his apartment building and a hell of a lot has changed since last we spoke. Travel plans ditched and bands flamed out but that didn't deter him to keep playing and find his feet again. He'll be bunkering down to record new tunes with both of his new bands and there will be more shows on the way no doubt about it.

Before Liam decided to head off overseas (pre-pandemic obviously) he was the vocalist for Siberian Hell Sounds and has now started Matsen Arts and is taking on commission pieces. We reminisce about our early years of going to live shows and more than likely crossing paths without evening knowing it, trusting your gut when it comes to your art and at the current time of release, the search continues for Trent Riley and to bring him home. Team Glasses, Black Blood Audio, and Parliament Skate Shop as well as a stellar lineup of bands have gotten together to put on a benefit show with all the proceeds going to Trent's family.

This was the second attempt at recording, we'd started a 2 part series and never got around to the last part because Covid decided to come along. We scrapped it and tried again with much better success this time round. Having travelled a lot of the world and in particular the states, Nath has met a vast array of musicians and has even worked for them. His own podcast Consuming Impulse has some fantastic international artists to listen too and as well as Nath's story growing up on the Southside during some pretty hostile times. After putting on a successful show in October Jake's organising a second show which is going to be even bigger than the last. Jack has been involved in music for a damn long time, it shows with the impressive list of bands he's played for (no doubt I've forgotten a few) This is the kind of normalcy I've grown used to hearing though as being an amazing drummer in Brisbane especially is always in demand. He's also an active supporter at the protests for the release of the refugees from the Kangaroo Point Hotel where over 100 detainees are being held (some up too as long as 8 years) Originally his new Doom band SLUGG planned on debuting their live set at one of the protests but was unfortunately canceled but just recently got the chance to play at Blute's Bar and I totally forgot how bloody loud sludgey doom can be. Expect new tunes and more shows in the future and I highly recommend giving them a watch next time you get the chance to boogie in town.

It felt strange recording in my own bedroom, not in a bad way since distance rather than the virus made that happen, probably more so the fact it was my second attempt at a skype recording and normally I record in the studio. Dreamworm has a fascinating story and the lore behind the band is pretty mindblowing, Harshmellow is a comedic musical combo started by a shared love for art and each other. We talk about coping in crazy times, storytelling in music and so much more. I had such a good time getting to know these two and will always look forward to seeing what they both produce and to see them perform when restrictions start to ease over the country. Well hot damn it's good to be back. First episode since the craziness of COVID19 had the owner of King Lears Throne aka King of the shit talk Kenny onboard for a chat and it stayed on track relatively early but as you guessed it we talked a lot of shit. Being someone directly affected by the lockdown I wanted to check in and see how the industry is holding up as well as having a chat with such a lovely human being after the lockdown. We talk favourite shows played at his pub, getting the foot in the door and how the other venues are supporting one another. Once this all blows over (safely of course) King lears will be up at running and to quote the man himself "it should be at leassttt 30% better"

Hip hop has never been the genre I go too first but I've never held a grudge, it's thought provoking, catchy and lyrically captivating. With the help of local brisbane legend Late1, we sat down for a few beers to talk about Brisbane's hip hop scene, what seperates his style from the rest, the comradery between other artists and collaborations and plenty more. I hadn't been to a Thursday night show in a while, of course I picked a rainy night to do so. Absolutely worth it though to catch up with the guys in Cowboys and Injuries, Andy and Nick are such good dudes and I'm a little bummed I couldn't get them in the studio but this is exactly why the live format has come into play. The goldy punks have just dropped a 2 track release on spotify and have more shows and songs coming at you in the near future. Sometimes guests can't make it in to the studio because of schedules, life, you name it; that's totally okay in this instance I had the chance to meet up with the Garlic Nun boys for a few beers down the road from The Bearded Lady in West End before their show and full disclaimer, the sound won't be the greatest, there's background noise from the markets next door and a lot of back and forth chat it's hard to work out at times, but this is the feel I'm going for and especially more so for this episode. Such a crazy bunch of dudes but absolutely the best kind and their show that night with Blussh The Unknowns and Goon on the Rocks was just mental. If you missed out on seeing them I wouldn't be too bummed I'm sure they'll be back soon and with new tunes.

The more episodes I record with local musicians, the more bands I find out they play in. Turns out I haven't seen all of Josh's bands play yet but I'll be sure to fix that. Josh is a fantastic artist and incredibly involved within the local scene.
