What a serendipity to interview Curtis Vaughan, a friend, worshipper, son, husband, and father. Our conversation unpacked his journey hearing God’s voice and the ways he has been lead through life choices and decisions. Curtis is seeking God and learning to trust the fatherhood of God as he embarks on a fresh opportunity in Southeast Asia with his wife and four children. He is a strong leader with a tender heart.
Ever wish you could have a conversation with a person you've only known from afar? For Rachel one of those individuals is Chris Blackeby. The strong pull to meet him and converse was because Chris challenged, shifted paradigms and encouraged her own faith journey. One morning she woke with the thought, reach out to him and invite him on the real deal! And the rest is history!
Chris is the Creative Education Director of As He Is Ministries. He loves God, His Word and has a passion for the power of the Gospel and demystifying the spiritual. With a profound understanding of the pure and undiluted gospel and the New Creation, Chris has a passion for helping all God's children live a religion-free life as Sons of God and the redemption of creation.

According to the world’s standards, Ryan should be behind bars serving time or even quite possibly dead from swallowing the drugs he had intended to sell when he and his brother were stopped by the police. But God! Ryan’s story is no longer marked by the abuse, drugs, pornography or rebellion but it’s one of God’s mercy, liberation, kindness and favor.
You’ve heard the Timex slogan, “It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” Well, Deniese embodies that. Life has repeatedly hurled heartache, hardships and health crises her way but she has risen to each occasion and has reigned victorious. She’s a walking miracle woman!
Two quotes from this episode which struck me:
Deniese also launched a business! She makes aprons, “Designed for Destiny.” The story behind how that business came into existence was shared during this episode. Remember what you think you’ve failed or never completed maybe the start of something great! Deniese is a prayer warrior and a wonderfully strong woman who has helped shape my walk with Jesus. We discussed the need for space and atmospheres creating environments for people to express themselves and feel comfortable. How shifting into transitional places in the natural often reflects a change in the spirit realm. We encourage you to purge and MAKE ROOM! Move on to the next level, the new thing.
We sent out a challenge to start something new. A little nudge to begin now because the time is now.
Be faithful to the little steps and leadings of God and watch as he stockpiles the experiences and shepherds us into his heart. Don’t despise the day of small beginnings and do whatever it is you’ve always wanted to do. Pay attention to how you are being equipped and qualified for a new thing. Begin with intention and do it even if it’s clunky…do it afraid, just do it!

After hearing Kayley sing and tell her story, Rachel knew Kayley needed to be on the real deal! Kayley talks about not living with limiting beliefs or a limited mindset and the brave steps she took to walk out of a controlling and abusive relationship.
Kayley was raised in east Tennessee and even early on her heart beat like it was made to be tethered to a song. She has always been called to music, even as a young child, knowing somehow that she would always have a home there. Kayley currently lives in Nashville, TN with her golden doodle Johnny where she spends her time dreaming up new music, recording and performing.

We’ve known each other since our children, who are now in their 30’s, were first graders. In fact, she and I taught together for a year at a homeschool community group called Pathway. Rae Lynn is a dynamo with a flow of creative fun ideas and energy to implement all that bubbles up from within. She wrestles with perfection and expectations and was honest and real about it in this episode. She is a devoted wife, mama of four grown sons and has a business that we chat a bit about called: Backgate Prayers. We had a Devine appointment in Marco Island and I knew I wanted to capture this interview while I had the opportunity. I celebrate my friend, Rae Lynn and I celebrate you too!
“Together" is my true love language, although it’s not one of the LOVE languages typically listed.
I wanted to be TOGETHER again to recap, via “the real deal” podcast, our unique morning at “Hearts Set Free.” This retreat @wooddalechurch was held in February; despite the cold weather, hearts were burning with love and affection for Jesus and one another. I felt it deeply.

What do a head nurse lying sick in a hospital bed, the Beatles, castles, a Salvation Army lady, a devoted father, the headmaster of a school, and the leader of England’s Capernwray Hall have in common? They are all part of Jill Briscoe’s life and journey of faith.
She spoke about her childhood in Liverpool, England. She recalled the bombings during WW II along with nightmares that followed and what she called “the birth of her doubting.” Fearful thoughts found fertile ground and a place to germinate in her mind.
The turn around from fear to faith was a journey. The timing of God appropriately describes her life’s journey.

Multiple mic drop moments in this podcast! Lisa speaks of finding her self-worth in the one who made us worthy. Lisa hosted me as her house guest in the summer of 2019. She called her home the “house of help yourself” and I was delighted to be part of her family.
Lisa returns to “the real deal” podcast, I interviewed her back in season two, episode three. During my first interview she unpacked her Christian Science faith background and her salvation testimony along with a rapid baptism in the bathtub!
In this episode, however, she spoke of her reaction to losing her brother in a sudden motorcycle accident and the eating disorder that followed. This Advent, I’d love for you to join me on a truly life-changing Adventure! We’ll spend four weeks in the 28 chapters of the Gospel of Matthew gleaning from the very Word that became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus’ words and His works, through His parables and miracles, will bring to life the promises He made and the prophecies He fulfilled. My prayer is that as we experience His proximity to us, it will bring clarity to His plan and purpose for us. So, what do you say? This Buddy-Time episode of "the real deal' is chocked full of encouragement, challenge and hope!
Gayle and Rachel discussed taking new territory, new beginnings, a spirit of acceleration doing things together, being in the word, the power of testimony and to not despise the day of small beginnings. They delighted in this truth: God uses screw ups.
We all have something to share because God is moving. We get to be in the word and share testimony with others; it's a privilege and delight not drudgery. Admittedly, it is common to commiserate rather than to give thanks, rejoice and share testimony, but breakthroughs are happening and shifts are occurring, so let's CELEBRATE!
Things that have taken years are turning around. But the wilderness is "worth the wait and it's never a waste." During the wait, more is happening to you and in you than you may ever realize.

God uses ALL seasons! Yes, even the one we are currently in, 2020. God works everything together for our good. He makes the shift in a seasons, He brings beauty out of ashes, give joy where there was mourning and He turns around the things we have given up on or think are impossible.
This week’s episode of “the real deal” podcast I had the privilege of interviewing Kathy Stouthamer. She is proof God doesn’t waste any season. He is drawing us closer and growing us in them all.
I keep a list of people I hope to interview and I’ve wanted to have Kathy as my guest since season one. It hadn’t worked out until now. God knew the perfect timing and in more ways than one-this is her time!
This is a story of an overcomer!
Kathy is an overcomer and like a phoenix she has risen from the ashes. Whoa! She sure has been through a great deal in one lifetime. She worships her way through. We’ve sung on worship teams and we will be going, Lord willing, together to Israel for “The Encounter Tour” May 4-14, 2021. (Hey, you’re invited to come along.)
I was so delighted to get to be with her for our chat and we talked way longer than the recorded interview! I’m thankful you’ll get to listen in to our conversation. I believe you’ll be blessed. Enjoy!

Episode Notes Kathleen has been a solid ROCK in my world ever since we became friends! She is a great listener to God and to people. This I know first hand.
She is a ninja in the prayer world, she’s truly a mighty one in the kingdom of God. She loves to drink tea, eat chocolates, dance and groove and sing all day long. She also makes a mean macaroni and cheese bake. My thighs still remember it well.
Kathleen is a worshiper and a bundle of joy juice, she is talented and has a miracle story to tell. She is the epitome of the song lyric, “Go Tell it on the Mountain” so let me have her tell her story and you listen in. “the real deal” podcast Season 2 Episode 8

Jeanne Hillestad, Senior Executive Sales Leader, Norwex.
As I reflect back over my years with Norwex, it is clear that desire has been a God given drive on this interesting journey. It began 8 yrs ago, with a desire to socialize with some friends at a Norwex party and grew from there.
As I ask myself, what brings me joy and act on it, I find doors opening before my very eyes. One of those doors has been a growing team and our name is now officially "TEAM DESIRE"
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive and go do it! Because, what the world needs is people who have come alive!!!”

Oh yeah, with stories about a tweezer and epiPen thrown in as well! She loves words — written or spoken and is passionate about God’s Word and the life changing truths found in it. She loves reading it, writing about it, and challenging others to do the same. She has authored and taught Bible Studies for large groups, small groups, and online groups. She also loves encouraging ladies of all ages through speaking at events and retreats and has done so for MOPS, single moms, teens, and young girls.
About the Book Called is not about chasing. It's about following. It's not about going. It's about staying. It's not about us. It's about Him. It's not a "how to." It's "who through." It doesn't say, "I can do this." It says, "He'll get me through this." It's not about shining bright. It's about reflecting His light. It's not about aiming to please. It's about pleasing the King. When these six little verbs (need, be, see, know, grow, and sow) take root in our heart, that's when we are able to start living set apart. They are stepping stones into the places God is calling each of us. Unique paths paved by the same six words. This Bible study is for the woman wanting more but tired of dream chasing and fear facing only to discover she's still rat racing. King Solomon in Ecclesiastes mentions this chasing after the wind, but in John, King Jesus reminds us that it is all about abiding in Him. Called simplifies our role and magnifies His role in purposeful living. To Get Tabitha's book Rachel's website
