If persistence and passion is a recipe for success, Nate Laurence (Minneapolis, MN, USA) characterizes the journey. Nate is, of course, the quadruple threat: veteran DJ since 1994, prolific producer, event-coordinator, and label owner.
Nate has always been a DJ first. Once known as DJ Unity – a patron of former Minneapolis RAVE troupe “UNIK Communications” – Nate has labored for his place in house music. A career that developed over the course of a decade – largely behind the scenes – has now become impossible to ignore. Amid absurd energy behind the decks – layered with dexterous turntablism – Nate impresses even the most cynical critics one at a time “leaving wows in his wake.” Today, Nate remains active with gigs reaching as far as Europe, Southern Africa, and throughout the United States. Though national and international bookings keep him busy, in 2009 Nate fulfilled an enduring aspiration and true privilege by becoming a resident DJ at the legendary First Avenue Nightclub in Minneapolis.
After living in his second home of Cape Town, South Africa in 2001, Nate focused on production. Since then, his discog has grown at a reputable pace. With rookie releases on Flatpack Traxx, Funkfield, and Control Recordings, Nate proved his aptitude as a gifted producer. His distinct production style has continued to mature, signing EPs with Spatula City, Guesthouse, Love Network, Onethirty, Mindtravel, and Flapjack Records to name but a few. In 2007, Nate partnered with Chicago-based beatmaker, Scrubfish (Scott Kammer) and together they continue to reach Top100 lists worldwide while each new release continues to outshine subsequent releases.
In 2008 Nate created “HotDish.” HotDish is both a collaborative of DJs (Nate and good friend J Matthews) and an event crew that has become an illustrious house movement in Minneapolis. Finally, in 2011 Nate began a new philanthropic record label, Pluralistic Records. Pluralistic Records releases distinct and unique tracks that cross the boundaries between Chicago, Detroit, disco house, and tech house...or simply, house.
Notably, Nate (the academic) is also a Social Justice advocate, activist, and educator working at the University of Minnesota. This part of him is infused in his music, his branding, and all that he works to accomplish. Keep your eyes open for this talented and very different househead - who continues to give his all to keep the music fresh and far-reaching.

Good people; those who live in Minneapolis (USA) have a tongue-n-cheek rule that is passed around the club scene: never play a Nate Laurence track when Nate Laurence is in the room. I laugh. I'm my own worst critic.
So, to appease these dope folks, I've done a live mix (no sync, no bs) of all ORIGINAL tracks; some released; some unreleased; and, some coming in 2022.
Enjoy. Go nab the tracks where you buy/stream. AND...Happy New Year to you all. The best in 2022.

Freud would have been proud of the name of this EP. Or, are we really talking about strips of uncooked bacon? It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that this EP includes two tracks by Frivolous Jackson that include both sexual energy and red meat! Get it going.

RAVE. F**KING RAVE. D-RUBS is here. Remember the old days of it all? Those days when the jump-up D&B was FUNKY AS HELL?
Why is everyone so pissed off? What happened to the fun? The breaks, beats, hip-hop samples, funky shit. God those raver girls were lovely when they bounced to this 'ish.
We scrupulously believe this is the BEST freshman D&B album out there. Eleven tracks certain to have you peeling the potsticker from your thigh. The golden scar of all D&B albums. Really. Yes.

Nate Laurence - 40 Trips Around The Sun (Acid Reflux Mix)- Pluralistic Records by Nate Laurence
We here at Pluralistic Records are exceedingly picky; growing the roster has taken some time. Fear not…the roster has grown by one. Introducing Jed X (California, USA)…whom…on first listen, had us HOOKED. You will be too! You’ll wanna…wanna…wanna touch it! It’s money!
“What I Want” voyages on terrain that expertly fuses Littlemen-esk sample sequencing with the pushing sounds of the early 2000s. You WANT this track.
El Rey de la Rumba would be proud of Jed’s next jam, “The Touch.” Mid-track, Jed rolls from Havana and nearby Matanzas to a smoke-filled backroom in New York. The track is spicy, swirling, and well….check it out!
Finally, Jed gives us something jazzy…a bit psychedelic…a late-night chill spell, with his track “Money.”
Our first EP by Jed is suave, groovy, sultry, sexy, and certified dope on all levels. Thanks for picking up the EP!

Nate Laurence & J Matthews LIVE @ HotDish 5.5 Year Anniversary on 11-29-14. First Avenue Nightclub. Final HotDish and 65th Show. TWO HOUR LIVE recording!
A small sample of the most incredible collection of 100% live events!
HotDish is the LAST Saturday of every month at the INFAMOUS First Avenue Nightclub. We specialize in house music with local and guest DJs each month. Residents: Nate Laurence & J Matthews!
Hear Ye...all party people of the frozen north: HotDish – that unmistakably Minnesotan hodgepodge of plentiful funky ingredients – is now serving all with a gluttonous appetite. HotDish is both a collaborative of djs (Nate Laurence & J. Matthews) and a Minneapolis-based event crew. HotDish values the diversity of EDM in the Midwest, yet it is our aim to provide a space for – above all else – funky, new-school, and soulful house music in the Twin Cities, which has historically been displaced by the thinning culture of our region. As an event, HotDish showcases talent that is pioneering and unifying – both local and international icons of this genre! Our past events hosted some of the best funky-house parties in the Twin Cities throughout 2006 to the present - with the likes of Derrick Carter, Jesse Saunders, Terry Mullan, Justin Long, Stacey Kidd, Lady D, Jonn Hawley, Alexander East, Chuck Love, Frankie J, Demitri Max, amongst many...many others.
Your HotDish hosts include Nate Laurence (a rave-era veteran, intoxicating DJ, and one of the most highly sought after talents in the international new-school underground house music scene - on high profile labels such as InStereo, Guesthouse Music, and Mintravel Recordings) and J. Matthews (a Twin Cities "beatopia" original and Boston staple who showcased his talents at high-profile venues including First Avenue, Quest, and the long-running "Bump" at the Phoenix Landing in Boston, MA.).
