Jay Edward Smith is an intelligent, hard working and ethical investor and entrepreneur.

He comes from a gaming and streaming background but rose to fame during 2017 during the crypto and social investing boom. He is now one of the most prolific popular investors on eToro with almost two million followers and over 20,000 people copying his investments. He needs no introduction for users of eToro: https://www.etoro.com/people/jaynemesis

Jay and I were debating ethical investing and oil while watching him playing the game "Democracy 4" and the conversation evolved into morality and existence of God, and I thought it would be interesting to record with everybody's permission. Later on other people we know from the investment world joined in to contribute the debate.

0:00 Intro
2:16 Does God have the right to judge the things he has made?
7:35 Nikos is 99.999% atheist according to Jay, and how do I know my God is the correct one?
12:55 Is all sin equally as bad?
14:48 How do you know your God is the correct one?
17:00 Atheism relies on democracy rather than legacy religious rules
21:50 Back to free will and the risk that God took giving it (if some of his creation will end up in hell)
29:00 If it's not possible for a human being to disobey God, then God has made a robot
31:30 Inconsistent bible translations and the bibles manuscripts vs Plato's and Aristotle's
38:40 Hard atheism and the word good are arbitrary, and even among religions the word "good" can have different values
42:00 You need an absolute standard of the "good" to have objective morality
43:40 Does having a Time Machine destroy free will?
46:55 Can we say that certain people are absolutely going to hell and talk about Aslan in the Chronicles of Narnia
48:50 The fear of God
52:14 How do I factor other religions into my view of God? What makes you think you know you are right? Mutually exclusive religions
57:00 Or God could be trolling us
1:04:11 How is this debate going to help our investment profits?

Mark H. Armitage earned a BS in Education from Liberty University and an MS in Biology (parasitology), under Richard Lumsden (Ph.D. Rice and Dean of Tulane University’s graduate program) at the Institute for Creation Research in San Diego, CA. He later graduated Ed.S. in Science Education from Liberty University and is a doctoral candidate there.

Mark grew up in a military family and lived in Venezuela and Puerto Rico for 15 years. He became a Christian when he was a college senior, studying plant pathology at the University of Florida, and his family withdrew support from him.

His experience in the business sector includes Olympus Corporation of America and Carl Zeiss. In 1984 he founded a microscope sales and service company and has been in business for 29 years. He was awarded a US patent for an optical inspection device in 1993.

Mark’s micrographs have appeared on the covers of eleven scientific journals, and he has many technical publications on microscopic phenomena in such journals as American Laboratory, Southern California Academy of Sciences Bulletin, Parasitology Research, Microscopy and Microanalysis, Microscopy Today and Acta Histochemica, among others. His career in teaching at educational institutions includes Master’s College Azusa Pacific University and California State University Northridge.

Mark managed a working electron microscopy laboratory (SEM and TEM) at the Institute for Creation Research in San Diego. In 2003 he moved his laboratory to the Creation Research Society Van Andel Creation Research Center in AZ. His lab is still vibrant and is still producing publications.

Until recently, Mark served as the Manager for the Electron and Confocal Microscopy Suite in the Biology Department at California State University Northridge. Mark was suddenly terminated by the Biology Department when his discovery of soft tissues in Triceratops horn was published in Acta Histochemica.

He is currently seeking relief in a legal action for wrongful termination and religious discrimination by the University.

Mark’s other unique discoveries include the discovery of two new species of trematodes and the reporting of new hosts for several trematodes. He also discovered short half-life radiohalos in clear diamonds, and the first ever discovery of soft tissues inside a Triceratops horn from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana.

He is a lifetime member of the Creation Research Society where he has served on the Board of Directors since 2006. Mark is a member of the Microscopy Society of America, the Southern California Academy of Sciences and the American Society of Parasitologists.

Kevin spent 3 years traveling around the world, modeling for print ads and appearing in over 150 commercials, before landing in his breakout series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995).

Kevin David Sorbo was born in Mound, Minnesota, on September 24, 1958, to Ardis (Thompson), a nurse, and Lynn Nain Sorbo, a high school teacher. His father was of Norwegian descent and his mother's ancestry was English, Scottish, and German. In high school, he excelled at football, baseball and basketball; in college, he played these 3 sports, plus hockey. Kevin was also in a number of plays.

After leaving college, Kevin joined an actors theater group, and traveled to Europe, then to Sydney, Australia appearing in commercials. At the end of 1986, he settled in Los Angeles. Kevin began to make guest appearances on such popular shows as Murder, She Wrote (1984). At 6' 3" and very muscular, Kevin was a natural for the title role in what would become his signature series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995). Kevin became internationally famous, and he learned the craft of film-making well enough to direct and co-write some of the episodes. Kevin even studied martial arts in order to do many of his own stunts. In real life, Kevin's heart is as big as Hercules'-- he leads "A World Fit for Kids!" as the chair and spokesperson.

Kevin devotes much of his time to "A World Fit For Kids!" which is a successful mentoring model that trains inner-city teens to use school, fitness, sports and positive role models for themselves, and then become the coaches and mentors for younger children. In 1998, Kevin married lovely actress Sam Sorbo, best known for her dual role on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995) as Serena/the Golden Hind ("Hind" is a female red deer).

Former London banker Alexander Pohl worked for years for one of the world's greenest banks. Idealistically driven he financed big wind and solar farms genuinely convinced he was making the world a better place.

Gradually he woke up to the fact that today's green is a broken system. He gave up banking and emigrated with his family to his little forest paradise in remote, northern Sweden. The dream was to get back to Nature, start an eco-farm and put as much distance as he could between his family and the industrialization of nature.

Until….. A wind park was planned at the gates of his paradise garden. Now he campaigns to reveal the corruption that has become endemic in our world from the pharmaceutical industry, the "green" movement, industrial agriculture and food production, digitisation and beyond. With a mission to help contribute to the collective wisdom that will live humanity back out of the mess that was intentionally created for it and to take our rightful places back in the Garden of Eden, Alexander has a positive view that as long as we all give our best, live a positive and purpose filled life and stand up against those that try to keep us from this, we don't need to worry what comes next...

Bruce Tulgan is a bestselling author, an adviser to business leaders all over the world, and a sought-after keynote speaker. Since 1995, Tulgan has worked with tens of thousands of leaders and managers in hundreds of organizations, ranging from Aetna to Walmart and from the US Army to the YMCA. He lectures at the Yale Graduate School of Management, as well as other academic institutions. Tulgan's books include the updated and expanded edition of Not Everyone Gets a Trophy and the bestselling It's Okay to Be the Boss. He is the Founder and Chairman of RainmakerThinking, Inc., and he lives in New Haven, CT.

For nearly three decades, Bruce Tulgan, bestselling author and founder of Rainmaker Thinking, has followed the latest developments in the workplace through several long-term organizational studies: on generational shifts in the workplace, best practices for leading and managing others effectively, and techniques for optimizing performance.

Today, more than ever, we all want to be viewed as an indispensable go-to person. However, in this new world of work, getting things done is more complex than ever. Collaborating with an increasing number of people leads us to being overwhelmed and prone to burnout. How can we win influence, tackle overcommitment, get the right things done, and become indispensable?

Based on the insights from his research, Tulgan reveals what truly sets go-to people apart, how they think, and what they do, in THE ART OF BEING INDISPENSABLE WORK:

--They understand the peculiar mathematics of real influence. Go-to people make the right decisions and get the right things done. Over time, they get a reputation for delivering, or having good reasons when they decline something. By doing the right thing for the long term, they add value to everything they do. As a result, colleagues want to do things for them, make good use of their time, and contribute to their success. That’s real influence.

--They lead from wherever they are. Today, many of us are constantly being asked to do things by people who aren't our boss, and where we must ask things of others who don't report to us. Go-to people know what’s required and what’s allowed—up and down the chain of command—is the secret to success.

--They knowwhen to say no and how to say yes. The secret to saying yes is to ensure the project is set up for success with a concrete plan—a clear sequence of events and ownership of next steps.

--They work smart. Go-to people identify what they do best and what they want to be known for.

--They finish what they start. Go-to people understand that the way to win is to complete projects so they can take on new ones. The secret to handling a long list of responsibilities and projects is to focus on one thing at a time. Tulgan recommends keeping a to-do list and scheduling time for each task, instead of toggling back and forth between them all.

--They get better and better at working together. Relationships are key. By focusing on getting work done, the work will go better. When the work goes better, the relationship will go better. Go-to people celebrate success with a supersonic thank-you.

--They promote go-to-ism. Go-to people find other indispensable people throughout the organization and build new go-to people whenever there’s a chance to do so. That way, if they can’t say yes, they can recommend someone else who can help.

Nearly a century ago, Dale Carnegie's classic How to Win Friends and Influence People propelled millions of readers up the ladder of success. In this new world of work, Tulgan provides the must-read guidebook for achieving real influence and learning to thrive.

Through creative storytelling and bold illustrations, THE CEO'S TIME MACHINE(Casa Flamingo Literary Arts, June 1, 2020), brings readers on an unexpected journey: an outgoing CEO walks his protƩgƩ, through a strange garage rumored to house a top-secret time machine. This business parable powerfully reminds readers that envisioning the future doesn't mean forgetting about the past or ignoring the present. THE CEO'S TIME MACHINE examines numerous business axioms such as, how:

Ā· The value of a business is the sum of its decisions,

Ā· Practicing hearing others and being heard could make you billions,

Ā· Business can challenge your ethics,

Ā· Creativity and imagination are limited by perspective,

Ā· Recognizing your part in ā€œthe giggle testā€ can lead to success or failure,

Ā· Corporations, by their nature, conspire against the future,

Ā· Middle managers can squash ideas without realizing their impact,

Ā· Innovative ideas become politicized and positioned right out of existence, and

Ā· Breaking down the CEO filter (how employees speak when the CEO is listening) can ignite innovation.

Michael wrote a smashing novel I read around 2016 called Seeds of Earth. A fascinating book with so many interactive alien species with intergalactic political issues and huge scope and interlocking plots.

Mike told me this to describe himself:

I'm half Scottish, half-English science fiction and fantasy writer, living and working in Ayrshire, Scotland. Born 1959, went to Clydebank High School, then on to Strathclyde University, studying production engineering (didnt graduate) - also wrote for the student paper, and volunteered as a DJ at the students union between 1979 and 1983 so I got all the punk and new wave stuff first hand! Started writing fiction seriously in 1985, first professional publication in the 'Other Edens' anthology in 1988, then a big gap until my first novel, Shadowkings, in 2000. That was volume one of my big bleak dark fantasy trilogy (grimdark before there was grimdark!), after which I switched to SF, leading to the publication of my space opera books, the Humanitys Fire trilogy. I wrote another two standalone novels set in the same setting as the trilogy (all published by Orbit), and am currently working on a completely new SF story/setting/character (which I refer to as Operation Badass).

Fazale (Fuz) Rana, the son of a Muslim scientist, serves as the vice president for science apologetics at Reasons To Believe. His research in biochemistry provided him with the initial evidence that life must have been created. A personal challenge daring him to read the Bible led him to the scriptural evidence that the Creator is the God of the Bible.

Fuz attended West Virginia State College (WVSC) as a Presidential Scholar. There he earned a BS degree in chemistry with honors. He completed a Ph.D. in chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry at Ohio University, where he twice won the Donald Clippinger Research Award. His postdoctoral studies took him to the Universities of Virginia and Georgia. Before joining Reasons To Believe, Fuz worked for seven years as a Senior Scientist in product development for Procter & Gamble.

Fuz has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Biochemistry, Applied Spectroscopy, FEBS Letters, Journal of Microbiology Methods, and The Journal of Chemical Education. He has made presentations at twenty international scientific meetings and co-authored a chapter on antimicrobial peptides for Biological and Synthetic Membranes. In addition, he holds one patent.

Today Fuz travels widely speaking on science and faith issues at churches, business firms, and universities. He also participates in the weekly webcast, Creation Update, and has made guest appearances on The John Ankerberg Show, Harvest Show, and Newsmakers (hosted by Jerry Rose on The Total Living Network). In addition, Fuz currently lectures for the Master of Science and Religion program in Christian Apologetics at Biola University.

This French popular investor focuses on safe trading. Olivier Danvel is a finance professional. He has managed financial assets for more than 20 years.

He specialized in currency trading 10 years ago where he develops original strategies such as the one he trades on the eToro platform when he started with early 2017, namely to perform each month in positive territory. Since then he did 33 cumulative 'green' months for his copiers on eToro.

He executes his knowledge by a method called swing trading, it's the fact of taking only a few positions per month in the forex markets for a period ranging from a day to a few weeks.

His major asset is not to trade constantly, he waits a long time, often several days, before committing his funds to seize the most likely opportunity following the fundamental and technical analysis of the multiple pairs of currencies that he observes at daily. Another key point of its strategy is its very low risk score trading, which secures much of its own funds as well as those who want to copy him. Checkout his eToro profile or his Youtube

Originally posted in my other podcast, due to its highly technical and scientific nature I reposted it here. Ā Also, it helps us to understand more about Covid and the science behind it during these times.

Molecular biologist Anjeanette ā€œAJā€ RobertsĀ  completed her BS in chemistry (graduating with honors) at the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Tulsa in 1988 and her PhD in molecular and cell biology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. From 1997 to 2001, she conducted postdoctoral research in viral pathogenesis and ā€œproof-of-conceptā€ vaccine studies in Dr. John Rose’s lab at Yale University. She then spent two years in Samara, Russia, in Christian mission work and public health lecturing.

In 2003, AJ joined Dr. Kanata Subbarao’s lab at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). There she co-led a SARS research team until 2006. From 2006 to 2013, she served as an assistant professor of graduate education for the University of Virginia’s microbiology faculty and directed the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program in Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases. From 2013 to 2015, she was a visiting fellow with the Rivendell Institute at Yale.

Originally uploaded to my other podcast Influencers Cafe but I decided that its home belongs in Learn With Us do to its highly musical technical nature.

Music composition is a huge passion of mine and you will hear more and more of it in my podcast background music.

I first learned of Howard when I was listening to lots of retro music for the Sega Genesis, including Sonic and knuckles and Sonic Spinball. He has worked in over 25 movies and is a super talented composer.

During the Cafe, I learned a lot from this master of the trade which helped me a lot in my own musical activities.

You can see a video of his time at Sega in this documentary.

Tim Roven is a musician, composer and sound designer from Brooklyn New York. He started studying classical violin at age 4 and played in orchestras and chamber groups through college. After college he played guitar and violin in various bands in Chapel Hill, North Carolina before moving back to New York.

In New York City he started the web design firm Blue Hypermedia which he eventually sold. Throughout this time he was doing studio session work and occasional touring with bands. After his first child was born he kept to the studio where he did composition work for Fortune 500 corporate presentations and annualĀ reports, advertising and documentary films.

What Tim says about the origins of Tabletop Audio:

Tabletop Audio was a side project which resulted from playing tabletop role playing games with my 2 young boys. Even though my boys are now too cool to play with me I realized that I had stumbled on something which I loved doing and it quickly became my main focus. Working on Tabletop Audio has allowed me to pursue a variety of projects such as audio books, escape rooms and theater sound design as well as doing custom work on exciting new role playing games

Why Nikos choose Vue for my Website (http://www.quantumjs.com/) versus React, Ember and the rest. It's a big question that webmasters have to ask themselves.

I choose Vue for several reasons:

  1. Vue Cli
  2. Vuetify
  3. Integrated e2e testing
  4. Simplicity

In this episode, Nikos talks with Reece Warren, the prolific London JavaScript recruiter about how the JavaScript industry works in London.

Reece is one of my favourite recruiters and we get together for catchups from time to time. Reece also runs a growing esports company.

In this episode, we cover what makes the difference between good and bad recruiters and many of the problems in the industry, and what developers like and dislike. We cover many of the big issues and features of this industry such as:

  • Spam and several recruiters for the same job offering contacting the same developer
  • Broken Interview process and jumping through hoops
  • Commission models
  • Green recruiters with no knowledge of the tech
  • Interview leads (fakes jobs and gathering references)

Nikos and Ken chat about JavaScript and how they picked it as their language of choice.

Amy Carney asks:

"As I try to get through the fog of JavaScript, I'm left wondering... how did you decide that was your language? What were (or are) the best resources that have kept you learning and mastering the foundation and beyond?"

In this episode we mentioned these JavaScript libraries / frameworks

  • Angular
  • Ember
  • React
  • Backbone
  • jQuery

We did not mention "How to get started" with these. We recommend you take some time and follow some tutorials but quickly jump into writing an application. This is the best way to learn... by failing.

If you've heard the term "fail fast" and aren't sure what it means, this is it: Failure is an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and to not make the same mistakes again.

Some online resources for learning JavaScript or any other programming language:

  • Treehouse
  • Egghead
  • PluralSight
  • Code School
  • Code Academy

Nikos mentioned a GitHub repository he has created for testing JavaScript job candidates. Vanilla JavaScript Candidate Tests.

Some other discussion took place in this episode around Acting and Bitcoin. It's good to get out of our shells and practice new skills.
