Every word, every detail, and pattern we see in the Word is not without great significance. God instructed Moses to build a sanctuary for Him to dwell among His people. He gave Moses a pattern, a blueprint so to speak, with specific details that were very important to follow.
The New King James Version interprets it as, “According to all that I show you… the pattern… just so you shall make it.”
You might think this is a devotion on the flesh vs. the spirit, but rather, it’s a devotion on how we can use our flesh in a positive way to move to the Spirit!

GOOD GROUND
If the ground is the heart… then we could say, “The good ground is the good heart.” If we have to prepare the ground, we could say, “we have to prepare our heart.” If another word for our “heart” is our “spirit,” then, the preparation of our heart is spiritual preparation. If the wayside, the stones, and the thorns, are the hindering issues, then the wayside, the stones, and the thorns represent spiritual hindrances.
There are three “thorns” mentioned by Mark - the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things.
- The cares of this world = distraction
- The deceitfulness of riches = delusion
- The desire for other things = defocus
Luke 8:14–15 (NKJV) 14 Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
Tribulation is the trials and difficulties of life. Maturity to handle these and to effectively walk through them takes time to acquire. Because of improper time priorities, the time to acquire them quickly becomes the time of impatience, discouragement, disappointment, and desperation. We have been so busy with other things and put the things of God on the back burner. Our root connected to Him has withered!
In today’s society everybody is vying for your attention. The information age has almost taken over our lives minute by minute – no… second by second! Now, with instant messaging we can have many texts, e-mails, phone calls, phone messages, alerts, reminders, updates, Facebook status updates, Facebook Messenger messages, Pinterests, News updates, Linked-ins, Redbox deals, PerksConnect deals, Tweets, Face Times, Blog Posts, every second, and the list is growing every day. I know – I send them every day!

Hear and receive what? We need to pay attention very closely – this is a major key for us to be ready and prepared for His return!

The last prophecy of the Old Testament and the first of the New Testament both declare an end-time revival before the return of the Lord. They do not mention anything about large evangelistic meetings, massive outpourings of repentance, or an increase in amazing miracles. This does not mean those manifestations will not take place; however, they do mention one thing that definitely will – the hearts of fathers turning to the children.
Just like biblical rank in heaven, there is biblical rank on earth. They are; 1. The Husband, 2. The Wife, 3. Parents (father & mother), and 4. Children.
Each of these ranks also have an anointing, a calling, and a duty.
