Jesus challenged their fear and little faith (Matt 8:25); crying out to God refuses the lie of abandonment; see Psalm 130. Jesus sometimes invites faith instead of immediately removing danger (Matt 14); He walks on the sea and calls disciples to step out of the boat. Peter stepped out and walked on water briefly, sank when fear overtook him, and was rescued—illustrating the call to trust and Jesus' rescue when faith falters.Call to Action Distinguish whether one is listening to God's story or to a deceiver who pours shame and fear.Faith sometimes appears as resting in peace and sometimes as crying out for help, calling on Jesus,and seeking Christian community. Repentance includes turning from collusion with lies—repenting for believing the devil's story instead of God. Jonah ran from God. And then he experienced three days and nights of death-like stasis in a great fish. Doubt. It can be a dirty word within a local church community. Doubt can imply weakness or little faith. And no one wants to be weak. No one wants to be accused of little faith. Why does the Bible say that God is a jealous God? After all, isn’t jealousy bad? James 3:16 says "For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice." And yet, God also identifies as jealous. He does not do so discretely or with embarrassment…He is quite emphatic: Deuteronomy 4:24 says, "For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God."
This is one of many Scriptures where God identifies as jealous. It may seem petty that a infinite cosmic being would be jealous of His creation. In fact, many skeptics and nonbelievers point to this attribute as their number one reason to not believe in the Bible. The seeming contradiction is that jealousy is sinful for us but okay for God. What are they missing when they form such a conclusion?

There is a reason that the Bible uses the concept of fire in association with Hell. Fire is awful, painful, and terrifying. C.S. Lewis said of hell, “There is no doctrine which I would more willingly remove from Christianity than [hell], if it lay in my power.” But he also recognized that hell is a necessary part of God’s goodness and justice.

When studying the Bible, you’ll find the earliest altars, the ones that we will use as a visual in this study, were just a pile of rocks. What can we know about them?
I suggest that there are some amazing parallels to the ancient altar in the New Testament. Today, we’re specifically going to look at the parallels between the ancient altars and the family altar. This will be a slow burn, and I invite you to pay special attention as we begin with ancient altars and create parallels for our families. Let’s begin!

*The following are a collection of New Testament Scriptures that show the NT teaching about music: 1. Singing has been authorized in our mouths and hearts – Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16 2. We are to sing in the assembly – Hebrews 2:12, 1 Corinthians 14:26 3. Worship is universal, meaning all humans are capable of worship. Instruments would have to be universally used if acceptable. – 1 Corinthians 14:26 4. Singing (praising God) is the fruit of our lips – Hebrews 13:15 5. We worship in spirit and truth when we sing internally and externally – 1 Corinthians 13:1, 14:15-16 6. God controls worship. He retains exclusive rights, right down to our thoughts – 1 Corinthians 11:23, 14:15
**The following are arguments made by advocates for musical instruments. How would you answer these?
A1 – Christians who use instruments are more faithful to Christ’s mission and less guilty “making it more difficult than necessary” to draw sinners to Christ A2 – God commanded and blessed instruments. There is not a hint that God is anything but pleased with instruments! A3 – Opposers of Instruments in worship have been dividing the assembly for years! A4 – Jesus didn’t address instruments A5 – Instruments are a non-issue in the book of Acts A6 – There are instruments in heaven. A7 – There is no authority for congregational singing in the New Testament, only to sing. A8 – God is the Giver of gifts. Why would God give gifts and people not be able to use them to praise Him? A9 – The Psallo argument: psallo means “to pluck” in the Septuagint. The Bible was the Septuagint during the first century, so Christians knew it meant “to play or pluck.” Since Ephesians 5:19 says “pluck” and hymns, which were songs with instruments, we are then commanded to play instruments. A10 – The musical instrument is an expedient meant to assist in the command of singing. It is no different than song books, musical notes, tuning fork, etc.

When a Christian shares the gospel with others, the Biblical pattern to become a Christian is completed with baptism in water for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4, 1 Peter 3:21). There are some who question the necessity of baptism. When pressed about the Biblical necessity to being baptized, some often turn to the thief on the cross.
The common argument is that the thief on the cross did not have to be baptized. If he didn’t have to be baptized, then why do we? If one person can be in Paradise without baptism, are those who preach baptism as necessary making the gospel “too difficult” for others to follow? How shall we escape?

Hi everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. Today I am sharing a special second part to a trip I made to Cambodia two months ago. Last time I shared an interview with Vanny Chan. I hope that it offered a glimpse into his heart for all of you who were listening.
Today I would like to share a Bible study that happened on the trip. Consider this an episode into my heart. As a preacher, there are times when you are prepared for one scenario, and another presents itself. You have to roll with it because you’re the one who has arrived to share the good news of Jesus with someone. In the study you’re about to hear, I had been told that we were going to study with a few people who were believers in Jesus. I had prepared a study to both encourage and challenge them to consider the truths of the Bible.
Upon arrival, I was notified that they were not coming. Instead, there were between 10-20 from the community who had gathered under brothe Lim Heang’s roof. None were Christians or even familiar with the Christian worldview. In a moment, I had to share the gospel with people who had no concept of why the gospel mattered. The following is the Bible study that I shared.
We’ve been considering some big picture elements of our faith. Where do we come from? What is God like? Why should we worship God? This week, for our final episode in this theme, we’re going to consider why a God who does not need us desires to have a special relationship with us. Another way to express this might be, why does an infinite God seek to be my Heavenly Father instead of just an all-powerful Being who looks on His creation with scorn? Again, this can be a huge undertaking, and I hope that it will be the first of many discussions that you and your family have about this. For now, let’s consider the reflection verse for this episode. It’s Joshua 24:14-15. Let’s hear it together:

All this month, we are considering what the Bible has to say about being thankful. We want to be thankful, and we want to express our thankfulness, both to God, and to one another. I may sound like a broken record when I say it, but every day is a good day to express our thanks to one another and to God.
This is the third of four podcasts on the idea of thankfulness. We’ve talked about expressing thanks generally, and we have considered the thanks we should have for the things we have. The main idea of our discussion today is about who we are. We just celebrated a great American holiday called Thanksgiving. If you’re like me, maybe you’ve eaten some turkey and pumpkin pie! But more valuable than delicious food is the reason that we celebrate Thanksgiving, a day specifically designed to give thanks. If you think about it, being thankful shouldn’t be a ‘one day a year’ celebration. It should be a part of who we are as Christians every day.
