Bafana Bafana has come a long way since Hugo Broos took over in 2021. Many were concerned about his management style, but he has revolutionised the way the National team plays. The team plays with passion and grit and ultimately, they are more committed than ever. Broos has collected some impressive results, with none more special than the bronze medal at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In recent weeks, Broos has been the subject of rumours stating he's leaving the National team to take up a job with Club Brugge in his home country, Belgium. SAFA and Broos have denied these rumours, however, Mzansi is worried given how much he has done for Bafana.
All teams go through their dominant eras, however, locally and internationally, Kaizer Chiefs and Manchester United have had the hardest falls from grace, having both been dominant forces for decades, only to now be classified as mid-table teams. Supporters are the lifeblood of clubs, but many seem to walk away when their teams are underperforming. Surely when your team is in a rut, support means more to them? Supporters need to stand by their cubs and support them through thick and thin!

The Soweto Derby, in recent years, has truly been dominated by Orlando Pirates, with Kaizer Chiefs struggling to gain ownership of the bragging rights the fixture has to offer. The Bucs seem to constantly have the edge over their noisy neighbours and quite frankly, it seems as though the Amakhosi faithful have finally had enough of their performances against their arch-rivals.
The latest edition of this fixture, was not short of goals and excitement, having been a 5-goal thriller, with two braces - one from each team. But ultimately, it was the Buccaneers who were victorious having won 3-2 thanks to goals by Monnapule Saleng and Thabiso Lebtiso.

Bafana Bafana are continuing to show their courage and prowess after they beat Cape Verde in their 2023 African Cup of Nations quarter-final match-up. The game went all the way to penalties after the regulation time of 120 ended goalless. Cape Verde took the first spot kick which saw Captain Ronwen Williams pull out a miraculous save. The 32-year-old's heroics did not stop there as he ended up saving 4 out of Cape Verde's 5 penalties. Bafana Bafana ultimately overcame Cape Verde 2-1 via a penalty shootout.

Hugo Broos's team played with passion and vigour and they looked to gelling very well. Free-flowing football with well-strung passes made it very difficult for Namibia to break down. The big question now is, will Broos and Bafana keep the momentum when they take on Tunisia? This match ultimately decides their fate. The Carling Knockout Cup is Officially over in all its might and Glory. Stellies FC were ultimately crowned champions which meant they had the chance to take on the Carling Knockout Cup All Stars last weekend. The All-Stars were comprised of players selected by you, the fans! Stellies fell just short of the Mark thanks to goals by Kaizer Chiefs duo, Mfundo Vilakazi and Ashley Du Preez. One other Kaizer Chiefs player stood out and in turn, was named Man Of The Match. Itumeleng Khune put on a stellar performance and given that in recent weeks, he had some off-field issues which saw him be suspended by his club, it goes to show his professionalism and love for the sport.
The 2024 AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) commences on Saturday 13 January with Bafana Bafana taking the field for the first time on Tuesday 16 January. For the past 24 years, Itumeleng Khune has been with Kaizer Chiefs, first in the youth system and then in the first team. In over 2 decades, we have never seen a report that suggests Khune has alcohol problems, let alone arriving to training 'drunk.' The Former Kaizer Chiefs defender has put pen to paper and signed for Romanian Ligue 1 club, Fotbol Club FCSB. The versatile defender spent seven seasons with the Glamour Boys, where he grew into a formidable defender. Many Chiefs fans have even praised the 25-year-old, claiming he was one of the best defenders during the 2022/23 Dstv Premiership season. The beauty of this move is that there is proof that development players have what it takes to make the move to Europe, so long as the player is hard-working, determined, and ready to make the necessary sacrifices.

After joining Orlando Pirates in 2019, and spending close to 3 seasons as an assistant coach, Fadlu Davids will leave the Buccaneers at the end of June 2022 when his contract expires. The 41-year-old will not be signing a new contract and nothing has been agreed upon by the club itself. Davids has performed a stellar job according to a statement released Pirates’ official website. Davids helped take Pirates to the final of the CAF Confederations Cup, unfortunately coming in second place, and a few big wins on the local circuit have put the Cape-Town-born coach in demand. After the match, Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi was asked about what he felt went wrong, he said he felt VAR played a role. The Sowetan giants became crippled, with no less than 52 players, staff, and coaches testing positive for COVID. This caused the club to write proposal letters to the PSL and SAFA, requesting 4 fixtures to be postponed as Amakhosi could not field a team. This came as quite a shock to the Southern African footballing world, as this had never been done before. But if you look into the matter deeper, you could say that Chiefs had good intentions behind this request. Amakhosi were “no-shows” for the matches against Cape Town City and AmaZulu.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that the 2020/21 campaign will get underway on October 9th 2020. Specific details regarding venues and match schedules are yet to be announced, and PSL supporters will be interested to see if they’ll be able to attend matches at any point in the season. On SL Radio’s Fan Reaction Show podcast, supporters aired out some issues that they’ve had with the viewing experience this season and discussed what they’d like the PSL to do ahead of the new campaign if they will be allowed back in stadiums.
“Most of the games were played during the week. We, as people who are staying far, most of the games are in Gauteng. Most supporters are having trouble attending games, that’s why sometimes you see most of the games, there are no supporters”, one supporter stated.
“The things which are not making me happy about the PSL is the price of the tickets and the way we get the tickets. Sometimes it’s difficult to go to Computicket to get the tickets. So I suggest they bring back the style of buying tickets at the gates. That’s my main concern”, a Kaizer Chiefs fan suggested.
Discussing how the league should manage the campaign given the struggles with condensed schedules, another fan stated “For next season to work, I think the PSL should scrap the December break. They should emulate leagues like the EPL (English Premier League), where games are played throughout December.”
So far, the PSL chairman Irvin Khoza has only announced the start date (October 9th) of the 2020/21 season.

As usual, his statements caused debate among PSL supporters as Mosimane has become a popular, yet divisive figure in the media in recent years.
“I agree with Pitso. How can a team play 10 games in 29 days? God loves all of us. I know we will do it. Good luck downs”, one supporter told SL Radio’s Fan Reaction Show Podcast. Another supporter claimed, “It’s just Pitso Mosimane playing mind games, he’s just up to his old tricks and no-one should listen to coach Pitso at all because we have seen this movie before.”
While much of the concern regarding the return of local football is focused on the title race and relegation battle, Premier Soccer League (PSL) fans have raised concerns over the bets which have already been placed on upcoming fixtures. The restart delays have left supporters confused and frustrated, as a lack of clear communication between the PSL & the South African Football Association (SAFA) continues to make headlines.
“PSL or SAFA must understand that PSL games do not only affect them but [also] those people who bet and investors and all those people. Some people have already put their money on the upcoming games and so forth, so what will happen to [them]? They don’t care about those people who are doing business. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) & the South African Football Association (SAFA) have been under the microscope since the suspension of football in March of this year, and once again the apparent rift between football’s governing bodies has come under scrutiny.
The disagreement is over the date & venues for the proposed resumption of the Absa Premiership & GladAfrica Championship. The PSL’s hopes for a July 18th return were rejected by SAFA, and PSL supporters are growing frustrated with the continued divide.
One Fan told vented his frustrations on SL Radio’s Fan Reaction Show; “SAFA & The PSL are playing with us. Why don’t they sit and discuss amongst themselves, and then come back and tell us the conclusion?”
“The only problem in RSA football is SAFA, even the poor performance of our national team. PSL is more competent than SAFA", said Sizwe in Soccer Laduma’s Facebook comments section.
The PSL looks set to resume early August, although details have yet to be confirmed as to when and how, with Gauteng being touted as the most popular province to host the bio-bubble format conclusion.

"I suggest that Gauteng mustn't be the province that [should] host the remaining PSL games due to the fact that Gauteng is on high risk [of COVID-19]. I think it's better for maybe the North-West but I think it will be a problem due to the fact [that] they only have small stadiums," one Fan stated.
Another fan argued on the contrary stating, "I would like the PSL to host the remaining games around Johannesburg because here we have more fans and we are not allowed to travel far."
The latter response shows that many PSL fans still believe that they may be able to attend the remaining matches, despite lockdown regulations stating the opposite and the PSL stating clearly that matches will be held behind closed doors.
Kaizer Chiefs sit atop the PSL standings with 48 points while Mamelodi Sundowns remain hot on their heels, with 44 points a game in hand. While the title appears to be heading to either Naturena or Chloorkop, there is still an outside chance for the likes of Orlando Pirates & Bidvest Wits to challenge for the league glory. Only 10 points separate log-leaders Amakhosi from Bidvest Wits in 6th position.
While most PSL fans remain adamant that the title chase is a two-horse race, Orlando Pirates supporters felt that the Bucs deserve consideration as well. Answering an SL Radio fan poll, one listener responded: “Orlando Pirates FC can still contest for the league with Kaizer Chiefs FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC."
Responding to the question “Who else in the Top 6 can challenge for the PSL title?”, another Pirates fan stated, “If not Pirates then I have no idea who else deserves this league, come on we been through a lot this season, give this beautiful football playing team a break.”
PSL fans are debating the fairness of the new date for Kaizer Chiefs’ transfer ban appeal being set for September, a date after the current transfer window closes at the end of August.
After being handed a 2-window ban from transfer activity over the signing of Madagascan midfielder ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana in July 2018, Amakhosi have appealed the ruling from the world football governing body’s Player’s Status Committee. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, their new appeal date means that they’ll miss out on any activity during the current window, even if their appeal were to be successful.
PSL Fans are torn as to whether or not the ruling is reasonable, especially considering the severity of Chiefs’ alleged transgressions. “I believe that Kaizer Chiefs made their bed, so they should lie on it. Their management had it coming, this thing of buying players on a discount, trying to rip off teams, there’s always something wrong with Chiefs buying players”, one fan told SL Radio.
Taking the opposing opinion, another fan stated “I think it’s not fair at all. They should just fine Chiefs maybe R2 Million. But to not sign players for two transfer windows, come one!” There has been speculation that Amakhosi are attempting to have the ban suspended but nothing has been confirmed by Chiefs or FIFA regarding this rumour.
