Barrett Elementary School has been awarded a $10,000
Toyota TAPESTRY science grant. Barrett is the only
school in Virginia to receive the award for 2006. The grant
will be used to implement their project, “Carpe Camera
- Seize the Media through a Scientific Lens: Video
Podcasting Student Inquiries to the Worldwide
Community".

As part of Barrett’s project, fourth grade teachers at
Barrett will engage students in exciting inquiry-based
hands-on/minds-on lessons that incorporate the Jason
Expedition, NASA Explorer School experiences and the
Virginia Science Standards of Learning, including the
explicit teaching of reading and thinking strategies.
Students will participate in interactive video
conferences with the NASA Langley Research Center.
Each unit will culminate with the creation of a video
podcast that will be available for free viewing from
the iTunes website.http://feeds.feedburner.com/DiscoveryThroughAScientificLens
